Quarantine life has me checking out pretty much every ethnic market in the area. #notevenkidding
Doris, a name that makes me think of a cantankerous old lady, is only the latest. I do have to say though that despite that type of ideology, this Doris is the sweetest thing.
Passed by with the intention of purchasing some items to make baked ziti. Typically I make lasagna, but baked ziti is essentially that without all the fuss. Anyway, this recipe provided the perfect excuse to shop there (not that I needed it really).
Ended up buying garlic, marinara sauce, pasta, at least a couple of different types of cheese, several herbs and seasonings, brownie brittle, and at least four different types of cookies. For all of this, it was give or take $50. Not expensive given the quality of everything but not cheap either.
I would have probably rated this market four stars, but I was very surprised by their offerings. For one, they have both duck and rabbit. Both are a huge deal to me as a few months ago, it seemed as if I were scouring the earth to find some. More so, though, their bakery left me speechless.
Frankly, had my boyfriend not pointed it out, I wouldn't have probably noticed. The bakery made me teary-eyed out of nostalgia. They have both pistachio leaf and strawberry leaf cookies. I hadn't seen those in years and I used to eat them all the time with my mother and grandmother.
Adding onto this, they gave us two sample cookies to try out. I especially appreciated one of these as it was for my boyfriend's daughter, and well, it made her happy. Not all places know how to treat kids, so this was a welcome surprise. Really, it honestly all was. A piece of me felt as if I were home, and that to me, is worth five stars. I can't wait to go back and buy more things.
