"David and Amanda Krog opened Dory in the shadow of Malco Paradiso Cinema Grill in East Memphis in early 2021. Due to pandemic restrictions, they initially offered a multicourse tasting menu, but their original intention was to introduce a full, a la carte menu. In 2023, the husband-and-wife team finally made the transition, swapping out the tasting menu of small plates for a variety of entrees like pork loin with smoked white bean puree, scallops and mussels with herb risotto, and black oyster mushrooms with masa, cheese, and fermented onion powder." - Andy Meek, Jackie Gutierrez-Jones

Service was very good, but waited quite a while for dishes to show up. The starters we ordered were oyster mushrooms and the squash. Both were excellent so that definitely gave me pretty high hopes for my main dish. I ordered the scallop and mussels citrus buerre blanc risotto, and while the scallops and mussels were cooked to perfection, the risotto was lacking in flavor. Pretty much tasted like plain wet rice…. the dish would’ve been better if the risotto was left out. For dessert we shared a cafe mocha. The cake and mousse was wonderful but the caramel popcorn on top tasted kind of stale.

This is literally the best restaurant I've ever been to anywhere. The flavor pairings are beyond incredible! I've been to Michelin Star restaurants that don't even come close to being as good as Dory. The experience here is beyond incredible. Randall is an exceptional server and the chef comes out to meet and greet and he is just wonderful to interact with and hear about his creativity. We have been here several times and it's always been fabulous! This is my favorite restaurant anywhere! Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone!

Google
This wasn't just dinner, this was a true experience!! Not only was the food really amazing and all locally sourced, but it was the little details and the astounding amount of love and energy the staff and chef put into the evening. The kitchen is open and visible to the diners, especially where our table was, and we really enjoyed watching all the chefs prepare the dishes, it felt like we were watching parts of "The Bear" (the elevated cooking in a kitchen parts!). Everything about our experience felt personal and the little touches the head chef executed felt so heartwarming and sophisticated simultaneously. We didn't order dessert, but because we were celebrating our birthdays, the chef brought us a small plate cake on a dainty, special plate from his mother's kitchen. So so glad I took a chance on this place, and on such a special occasion too!! Couldn't recommend more if you're into classy, elevated, vibes and cuisine.

Google
Are you looking for a wonderful dining experience? Look no further. This place is excellent. From the atmosphere, to the food, to the wonderful team that takes care of you during your dining experience, Dory is a must-visit. The choices are brilliantly limited, giving us options on how many courses we would like to venture on depending on the day of the week. And oh what a wonderful adventure it is. We experienced a new menu that included the most decadent venison, scallops, fluke, beets, corn bread, and pasta. We also had a view of the kitchen and witness the craft that goes in to prepare these wonderful dishes. To top it all off, we were taken care of by a wonderful team who explained very well what went into each dish, as made excellent recommendations of drinks to pair them with. I do not have the skill to describe in words how wonderful the food is, or how their team makes sure you are enjoying the experience. My only advise is to not let the price stop you from trying. If you can afford it, this is truly a first-class culinary experience that enjoy without leaving Memphis. Trust them as your guides in this wonderful and surprising adventures.

Google
I absolutely love this place. I went for my birthday dinner. I had the six course plus wine pairing. It was exceptional. Hands down the best meal/service I have ever had. EVER! I loved to intimate setting. The staff was incredible. The servers were knowledgeable and gave a detailed description of every course. I have never had a better dining experience. I would recommend Dory to any and every one.

Google
The best meal I have had in Memphis. This dinner was a complete experience from start to finish. Each time I have eaten here I have had delicious fresh food and memorable night. I am a good cook so I don’t usually like things that I can cook at home. However, these dishes are like nothing I have ever made- or ever had anywhere else. Truly a gem in this city.

Google
I really wanted to like this restaurant more than I did. Some of the best meals I've ever had were tasting menus at fine restaurants around the world. Unfortunately, my experience at "Dory" did not meet my expectations. The chef owner was very personable and welcoming and we appreciated meeting him. The staff was very professional. The building is clean and pretty, but felt more like a cafeteria decor than that of a fine dining restaurant -- there is no privacy between tables, which is important when everyone is getting the same food. There is no mystery or romance. The summer menu was rather disappointing. A few of the courses were very good, but most were unimaginative. The fish was dry and bland. The steak was chewy and unoriginal. My expectation for a tasting menu with small portions is that every bite should be exceptional. This was not. Maybe it's what the local market can accommodate? But I had higher expectations.

Google
I actually went there for my birthday recently. This is a place that serves up 5 to 6 courses with an intermezzo . Be prepared to stay for at least an hour and a half. Be sure to make reservations beforehand. The ambience of the place is pretty basic but nice and quaint. The walls were adorned with an eclectic array of musicians portraits. We showed up around 5:30. It was nice and quiet. Our server was on point and attentive. The courses we're seasonally random, and we could only omit food choices we did not want. They served an array of fresh vegetables. Our protein dishes dishes were duck, Cod, and Lamb. Most of the dishes had great presentations. However the depth of seasoning was somewhat bland. Seasoning was to be desired. Salt, pepper. herbs, spices, would have next leveled everything. It come off as a high end culinary restaurant. It is not fine dinning. I would consider it upscale casual. All in all, it was a decent experience and I would recommend you giveit a try. They have a decent wine selection. The open kitchen floor plan was a bonus. Oh yeah, It got a bit festive around 7 PM.

Yelp
Dory is amazing. Amanda and Chef David are amazing. Nick has definitely become one of my favorite local bartenders. He's not afraid to explore his creative side when it comes to cocktails. You really have to trust the process. We visited to experience the newly revised concept which we love just as much as before. From the decor, to the playlist to the perfectly crafted menus, you can't help but to enjoy yourself and want to return again soon

Hannah H.

Yelp
Such a treat to try Dory last night. No questions asked the best food in the area! Each course was so perfectly put together, and I cannot recommend the wine pairing enough. Also had such a pleasure of meeting the owner Dave at the end of the meal and chatting with him for a while - such a genuine person and phenomenal chef.

Von G.

Yelp
I did not enjoy the food, service was extremely slow and it wasn't a busy night. The potatoes were exceptionally salty though cooked very well. The lamb was bland.

Julie W.

Yelp
Let me just start off by saying we went all out, tried cocktails, did the wine pairing and the full course tasting. We walked away thinking wtf did we just spend $400 on? We walked in and were greeted right away, ambiance looked cute, very modern but romantic at the same time. We were welcomed with a drink menu and asked if we wanted to do the wine tasting menu. It's $70 per person but you can share a wine tasting since it's just enough to finish your meal. We didn't want wine left over after finishing each dish. Plus the cocktails were so good we didn't want to limit ourselves only to wine. Courses started coming out. The wine pairings were craftfully put together and I was pleasantly surprised. Would I drink any of the wine glasses on their own? No way, they had to be drank with its corresponding food tasting. It was cute how the servers would come and try to explain each wine. I can tell they put a lot of effort in the pairings. Now to the food, each tasting just left something else to be desired, incredibly bland and underwhelming. Scallops, lamb and red snapper were cooked perfectly but that's it, nothing to allow for the flavors to be enhanced or complimented. Just soooo much more could have been done, ESPECIALLY for the price. "Oh but they want you to taste the main ingredient" no there is a difference between a good dish with accompanying ingredients to enhance the main ingredient vs one trick ponying showing your talent on how to cook the main ingredient to perfect temperature. There is a true talent with enhancing flavors and this restaurant did not do it. It was underwhelming, amount of food was enough but I found myself going across the street for a slice of pizza just to get my itch for flavor :') Anyway, $400 later and were sorely disappointed. Great service though! But like every restaurant in Memphis, more was left to be desired. I need to stop finding NYC and CA restaurants here in Memphis and accept my fried chicken fate :( fyi 5th course was lamb and olive tapenade but forgot to take a pic

Yelp
And... to wrap up our latest Memphis adventure, there's Dory (not the fish). We saved one of the best for last. A few years ago you wouldn't find restaurants like this at all in this area. But luckily gourmet, chef-driven fare has arrived in Memphis. And I'm so happy it has... No doubt, with a restaurant like this, the menu will change frequently. So I won't go through our faves. But what I can say is everything we had was done very well. We were happy we had the experience. The restaurant itself isn't overly pretty, but the service was efficient and not fussy. All-in-all, I'd say you should try this place before they become too popular and getting a reservation isn't quite as easy.

W B.

Yelp
I felt ripped off by the tiny portion. $41 for 4 small pieces of a duck breast is unacceptable. The whole plate was finished in less than 10 bites. Ridiculous. I felt insulted and violated. The picture makes it look bigger than it was. The dot of sauce was the size of a quarter. This was a tasting menu portion at a full entree price. You know how they say that things always taste better when they are free? The other person at my table treated and I am still ANGRY. I literally ordered takeout as soon as the server put the plate down.

Yelp
Easily one of the best restaurants I've ever been to in my life. My fiancé surprised me with dinner here to celebrate our engagement and it was our favorite meal we've ever had together, maybe in our whole lives! The love and attention they put into every dish, and every ingredient, can be both felt and tasted. I'm celiac and also vegetarian, a challenging combo for many restaurants, and I was accommodated with ease, enthusiasm and kindness throughout the multiple courses, all the way up to the dessert truffles they brought us as a gift. We will absolutely be back as soon as we can!

Katie M.

Yelp
We had an incredible experience at Dory! We started with the turnip salad, a black mushroom masa dish, and a mussel scallop risotto. Everything we ate was FANTASTIC and had such unique flavors. The staff and very kind and brought us a free dessert since we were celebrating our anniversary. The chef even took the time to introduce himself! Despite being a "fancy" restaurant, it felt very quaint and everyone was personable. I recommend sitting in the dining room so you can see into the kitchen while they cook.

Stephanie R.

Yelp
The food was amazing. I had the scallops and mussels with risotto. The butter lettuce and Parker rolls were fantastic. The apple dessert was delicious. I could not have picked a better restaurant and one of the nicest dinners i have had! The ambience was tranquil. The restaurant was well decorated and had interesting art. The hostess was wonderful and even checked in me during dinner. The chef personally came out to ask how my dinner was and thanked me for coming in. If I am ever in Memphis, I will go back! I highly recommend!

Emily N.

Yelp
did the 6 course tasting menu, overall a great experience with really friendly service and yummy food! some dishes really stood out like the first amuse bouche which was a turnip custard, the scallop dish, the duck, and the dessert sponge cake. was really full afterwards, definitely enough food! service was great but a bit slow, went with a larger party but it did take 4 hours the restaurant is in what looks like a house, the restaurant seems highly esteemed in the community as they had a local jewelry pop up and mentioned they source all ingredients locally!

Kelsey M.

Yelp
This was our 3rd time at Dory and our first with the a la carte menu, and we loved it! The rolls, carrots, and foie gras were incredible as appetizers, and we had the scallops and short ribs as entrees. All of the food was incredible, and all herbs and sauces perfectly tied everything together. Our favorite restaurant in Memphis for both prix fixe and a la carte dining! Definitely recommend and will be back for any special occasion.

Coasy H.

Yelp
Dory is a vibe, a hidden gem indeed. I visited Dory on a Wednesday night for happy hour, from 4-6 T-R they offer half off bar snacks. Nick at the bar was charming and clearly knew it was my friend's and I first time, he explained the menu to us and made food and drink recommendations that did not disappoint! The bar and lounge area were super relaxed and comfy, I felt at home at Dory and I was a first timer! The music was soul music oldies which again was a vibe. The decor, intricacies of the food and cocktails, mixologist Nick ensured that I will be back for a 4 or 6 course dinner! My favorite bar snack was fontina sliders, Nick made me a margarita on the rocks and then an apple margarita that gave all the flavors of fall and harvest. Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed!!

Jackie B.

Yelp
This is definitely gourmet dining where the chefs cater to the elite ! Dory offers five course meals and no meal is ever the same. It's a bit pricey, but the perfect place to experience true gourmet dining.

Steven L.

Yelp
Nestled in the Brookhaven Circle sits Dory. This is prob my favorite restaurant in Memphis now by Chef Dave Krog. Everything was delicious from start to finish. Although the restaurant was packed and a bit loud where we always needed to scoot closer and repeat ourselves, the food and presentation made up for it. Pan seared scallops were on point, so was the Tile fish and pork belly. Omg, the pork belly! The 6-course dinner is available Tue-Sat while the 4-course is available on Mondays only. Dave plans to have a new menu that begins on the first Tue of every month. There is also a chefs dining table which is a bar top in front of the kitchen that seats up to 4 that offers a 12-course dining experience. That menu however is up to the chef and changes daily in other words Omakase style. This is what Memphis has been missing! You won't be disappointed. Definitely a place to check out for date night. #eatlocal #yelp901 #dorymemphis

Yelp
I periodically travel to Memphis on business. A colleague suggested we eat at Dory. Wow, spectacular food, wine and good vibe in the restaurant. Excellent server. The setting on Brookhaven Circle with other restaurants and businesses is a bit odd, but don't let that be a put-off. I look forward to my next meal there.

Tasjuaii M.

Yelp
Yes. Yes. Yes! Make sure you come here. It's like having dinner with family. Everyone in the restaurant checks in on you to make sure you are having a great experience. Also, the chef is super attentive and nice. The food presentation is incredible and you are guided through each course with precision. I especially loved this plant based event because the local farmer was there to talk about sustainable farming and how they really came together to create the dishes. Loved that! I'm excited to return on a weeknight when they have a different menus to try new things, however no matter when I return I know it'll be delicious!!!

Kontji A.

Yelp
Dory is arguably my favorite new restaurant in Memphis. They have a six-course tasting menu Tuesday through Saturday, which changes almost daily according to what is locally available and in season. On Mondays, a four-course dinner. Not only is the food absolutely delicious, the presentation is just as impeccable! I had the six-course tasting menu and every course got better than the last. The restaurant had a prefix menu daily so the entire restaurant gets the same food. It began with a flaky rice cracker followed by a crisp cucumber dish; mussels with saffron broth; potato crisp and bacon; cod on a bed of leaks; cucumber mint sorbet to clean my palette; lamb belly, port braised short rib and buttermilk cake for dessert topped off with a dark chocolate truffle. For each course, the staff placed the plates in front of us at the same time. If you leave your seat, someone folds your napkin. The staff is super pleasant. There's no doubt Dory is a high end restaurant, but it's not stuffy. This is an amazing restaurant for date night or gathering with friends. What a great addition to the East Memphis restaurant scene!

Randi T.

Yelp
Amazing food and lovely chef. Bar menu very reasonable and the duck was delicious!

Shane S.

Yelp
What a gift to this city. Chef Krog and his team are truly talented and going to push the Memphis food scene forward. I travel often and eat at many chef's tables and tasting menus. I'm so excited before this regular chef's table, which is a feature missing in the Memphis food landscape. I'm also excited for the outstanding bar talent and his bar snacks plans. Congratulations to Chef and Mrs. Krog and wishing you much success. Other chefs in town, you have been put on notice to step up your game--politely of course.

Cloey M.

Yelp
Dory was SUCH a fun birthday dinner experience! If you are a picky eater and are not willing to try new things, then I do not recommend but I loved it!! Service was excellent and attentive. The ambiance was super cozy and felt like I was eating in a family friends dining room! The food was delicious and the wine pairings were perfect! (it's quite a heavy pour than i expected which I appreciated) ***not pictured was a yummy vanilla birthday cake** I will be back forsure!

Jackie B.

Yelp
This was hands down one of the best meals I've ever had. Never having been here before, when I booked a special four course menu with wine pairings (The winemaker actually came in from Australia to be there!) I was excited, but also a little worried it might be too stuffy for us. I shouldn't have worried. The staff was kind and welcoming, as well as being incredibly good at their jobs. They all worked together as an amazing team, and the pace of this meal was perfect. The chef came out and spoke to us after our meal, and he also seemed so genuine - proud of what he has created and happy to have guests in the restaurant. Every bite of food, from an amazing mushroom tart amuse bouche to a chocolate cake with a MIND BLOWING peanut butter mousse, was some of the most delicious I've ever had. I can't wait to go back again and try even more!

Deanna M.

Yelp
Absolutely obsessed with this restaurant. I've visited 3 times now and can't wait to go again. The service is impeccable. The food is Michelin star worthy IMO.

C M.

Yelp
I have not had a better meal out in Memphis; better than Flight or Iris, and a thousand times better than Chez Phillipe (to name a few). Beyond the food being delicious and the service being excellent, they are incredible at handling dietary restrictions. I have gone to two of their plant-based nights now and been blown away by the fact that they are not making any attempt to emulate some meat dish or serve a bunch of sides, instead they are unique, delicious dishes, as they should be. Add on top of that the careful way they source and use their ingredients and Dory is hard to beat.

Melinda H.

Yelp
Food was not at all worth the price and the service was sub par. We mentioned at the beginning of the meal AND when we made reservations that it was my wife's 60th birthday. It was never mentioned or recognized. Over priced for the food and service. Would not return.

Kevin V.

Yelp
I went in a Monday which offers the 4-course dinner. All the food was great. Each plate was handed directly in front of you and explained before eating. This place has very low ceilings which cause it to be very loud inside. It was hard hearing the people at your own table and even harder to hear the explanation of the foods. Overall, great restaurant and would like to try the six course meal. This guy in the picture was the only server not wearing his mask properly at all times. This wasn't just a mask slip up. It stayed below his nose the whole time during our dinner. All the other servers had theirs correctly over their nose.

Sheila C.

Yelp
Duck nuggets on a very large plate. This was the main course. It is truly a tasting restaurant. The portions are very small. The wine is hand pressed so don't be surprised it you find sediment in your wine glass. The restaurant didn't have any signage on the building to tell you it was Dory. No signs in the restaurant to designate which door is the restroom. An unusual dinning experience which I don't plan to repeat.

Michelle M.

Yelp
Super cozy chill spot that is very low key. I love that it's tucked away and kinda looks like a house. Excellent bar snacks and the drinks were done very well. Nick was our host/bartender/expert and provided some great recommendations for those in our group who weren't sure what drinks to order. The fontina sliders are just about as close to perfection as you can get. Will definitely be back to Dory. ETA: the music was a phenomenal mix of classic soul. Loved it!

Kasey E.

Yelp
wonderful ambiance with a creative menu. We loved everything that we ate and the staff was amazing.

Kara M.

Yelp
In short- service and quantity of food does not equate a 300+ bill for two people. We have heard many people recommend Dory as an experience of fine dining. We were intrigued by the prix fixe tasting menu and wanted to save trying Dory for a special occasion. We like to splurge on fancy experiences, and at 100 dollars a person for a 6 course menu- we had high hopes! Firstly, the staff was very nice but appeared scattered and unorganized most of the night. I understand what they have to do with switching out the silverware and bringing multiple glasses, but several times our server was not aware of what course we were on. And because everyone in the restaurant is being served the same thing, it was very odd to watch the people around us that came in later progressing through the courses before us. Both couples on either side of us voiced their concerns with the irregularities of service as well, so I'm glad that it wasn't only us that felt like something was off. It took us 25 minutes to receive our first course, and about a 30 minute wait in between each part of the meal. So it took us almost 3 hours to get through dinner with six small sized portions of food. You can imagine that we left quite hungry even after having more than a $300 bill. The execution of each course, while technically correct, mostly lacked flavor or creativity and had a very understated presentation. We really really enjoyed the beet and goat cheese course! It had incredible flavors- but was just disappointed that a vegetable course outshone the venison course. It's hard to openly criticize the experience when the feeling is people will say we "don't get it" but we aren't strangers to fine dining, flavorful food, or great service at restaurants. I would say- if you have hundreds of dollars to spend, 3 hours to use for dinner and don't want to leave feeling full, it is something to experience.

Jayshal P.

Yelp
Nick was truly amazing from the bar. He was knowledgeable and precise when crafting cocktails. Also had the opportunity to meet the head chef. He was so personable and an absolute delight to meet. Would recommend eating here.

Kelly H.

Yelp
I hesitated to write a review because I do not typically enjoy the type of food that Dory offers. That said, I like to try new and different places and when some girls were headed here for dinner I decided to join. Dory is very accommodating to dietary preferences. Our large group had several pescatarians, some vegetarians and at least one vegan. I'm certain it was a challenge for the wait staff to bring each of our courses and to describe each of the dietary varieties. For a couple of my courses I had to flag a server down to find out what I was eating. I think most in our group were extremely pleased with the food and the service. My very favorite course was the strawberry ice cream dessert. Amazing- especially on a 95 degree day.

Chlöe S.

Yelp
Showed up to our 6:15p reservation on a Tuesday after wandering around outside for a few minutes before finally finding the place. There's no signage showing us where the restaurant was located and if there was, my husband and I both missed it! Food was "okay" and the service was fine.

Lucy W. H.

Yelp
We went here to celebrate joint birthdays since it is quite a splurge. We went for the anniversary special dinner since Dory advertised the greatest hits. Every dish was an artistic masterpiece, but simply too little of it. We left very hungry. They don't offer bread to scarpetta the wonderful sauces, which is sad. We asked, and they said they had none, but they offer bread/rolls in the bar next door. The courses come fast as well, so you leave hungry and a little rushed out the door.

Karen P.

Yelp
I love, love, love this restaurant! From the demure exterior to the Ultra cool interior. The atmosphere is sophisticated, airy but at the same time very cozy. I anticipate the ever changing curated meals, and I love the bar appetizers! (Maybe even more) this is the absolute perfect place for date night, friends night, or anything! The Fontina Sliders are fabulous and sure to be a Memphis classic. I am including an image but I ate the sliders so fast we didn't get one fast enough! Chef Krog knows what he is doing. If you are from out of town this is a must stop.

Sally O.

Yelp
Had a fabulous time having the 6-course tasting menu at Dory. The food was delicious, beautifully plated, and engagingly paired with a diverse wine tasting. And the service was seamless, led by our great server Crow who guided us through the meal with humor and a generous spirit. To top it off, we ended the evening with a wonderful conversation with the chef. 5 stars all around.

Robbie J.

Yelp
I was so enchanted with Dory that I didn't even get pictures taken. Y'all, make a reservation IMMEDIATELY. The food at Dory is maybe the best I have ever eaten in Memphis. It's thoughtful, creative, and inventive. Our party of 5 was simply enamored with this place. It's a post World War II reinvented home on Brookhaven circle in East Memphis. The menu changes every few weeks and the fact that I don't have to choose what I am eating elevates the experience dramatically. I could relax and lean into what the vision of this husband and wife duo (The Krogs) are trying to create for me. And, it is magnificent. I was delighted and awed with each course served. Several in our party had dietary restrictions so don't let that scare you away from trying this delightful place. The team at Dory gently accommodated each dietary need in such a sublime and subtle way that it added to the overall experience. The wine pairing option brought out the absolute best in sommelier information without ever seeming pretentious. Those of us that prefer cocktails to wine were equally impressed with the curated cocktail experience. My only complaint is that by the time the restaurant filled up, we were having to shout at each other to be heard. Potentially, Dory could invest in some noise cancelling items to help with this as it's distracting from the over all beautiful and gentle experiencing occurring. I am so glad that the pandemic hasn't denied this creative experience from becoming a reality. DORY IS SIMPLY THE BEST!

Betsy B.

Yelp
Last night, we ate at Dory for the first time... and it did not disappoint. I will admit, it takes a very open mind to do a tasting menu, since you have no control, but it was worth it!! Each course was an expression of the Chef's imagination and love for food. I highly recommend Dory for a special night of being an adventurous foodie!

Sabrina G.

Yelp
The chef made some really cool food. I loved half of the food, and the other half was prefect fine. There was definitely some thought put into it, and unique touches everywhere. My favorite thing made that evening was the honey gnoche with a corn sauce, lardo powder, and nuts I think. The meat was cooked perfectly, and the progression was exactly right. All in all really cool and delicious meal. But for me I think it's a one off. I've had the experience and I'm good. That being said, if you can, you should definitely try it out.

J O.

Yelp
Don't walk, run to get yourself a table at Dory. We had an unforgettable evening last night. The food was exquisite. The wine pairing was phenomenal. And the staff could not have been more engaging. I can't wait to go back and see what magic they create next. Dory is a gem in Memphis' culinary scene.

Matt P.

Yelp
Probably some of, if not the most talented wait staff in Memphis. Creaux was our waiter and he was so knowledgable. This definitely won't be for everyone's palate or budget but if you are feeling adventurous and want something different, Dory is such a great experience, especially with the wine pairings. Also, the bar menu looked awesome too.

Lauren P.

Yelp
The food here is AMAZING! So much so that it has ruined every other dining experience (including at home). From start to finish each course was thoughtful, flavorful, and unique.

Lindsay K.

Yelp
We went to this restaurant for the first time with some friends for a birthday dinner. We went on a Tuesday, which is one of the days they have a set 4 course meal. I am not a very picky eater, and have no food allergies, so it wasn't an issue for me. However, if you are someone who likes to pick off a menu or look at a menu at all, this place is not for you. The starter was a squash fritter. Very tasty, but extremely small portion. I could've eaten 5 of them. The salad was a squash salad with fried onion and a side of goat cheese. I'd say it was a 2/5 for me. Not much flavor and pretty boring. The entrees were a baked salmon in a miso broth with mushrooms, which was pretty good, and flank steak with a delicious cream sauce and toasted potato pearls. They gave a watermelon sorbet pallet cleanser in between the two entrees. Dessert was a scoop of fresh strawberry ice cream with crumble underneath. By far my favorite part of the meal. Lastly, they gave a dark chocolate truffle over granola. Not really for me, but I don't love dark chocolate. Some people did the wine pairing with a few of the courses, which was pretty well done. One of my friends doesn't eat salmon, so she ended up having an extra salad instead of the salmon. The entire event took about 3 hours, which also was not expected. Ended up being about $120/person including tip. Overall, it was a good meal, but definitely a place to go for a special occasion. And plan on going when you have a lot of time!

Yelp
So... a complicated profile. Atmosphere a bit cold. Service a bit rushed. Loud room. Prices sky high. Food? Pretty great, well thought out, interesting, excellent quality. They tell you nothing when you sit down--no menu, no prices. So, here's the deal. About a half dozen courses, Asian influence (fermentation, presentation, ingredients), no menu, and no prices. Expect to pay about $150 per person with a drink and a couple of glasses of wine. Avoid the wine pairing (mediocre selection, constant appearances by the slacker hippie wine guru), and you can simply order a few glasses of the same wines for half the price--we're not talking major esoteric selections here). Most of the servers are fab. Bartender is great. Pretty far from downtown (25 minute drive). Hint to owner: for what you're seeming to aim for, send your sommelier to a tailor. It's unacceptable and it brings down the tenor of the place more than a notch or two. Show a bit of respect, both for the venue and the customers. In other words, grow the F up.

Yelp
Our experience was disappointing. Paying a premium price, ($300+) you expect a premium experience. It wasn't. Not bad, but not great. At that price, it wasn't worth it. Out of 6 courses, only 2 were somewhat memorable. 3 were ok & 1 was bad. Most were nothing special & on bland side. Portions were very, very small (my spouse got a burger on the way home!) & presentation less than spectacular. We got the wine pairings & the pours were tiny -about 3 ounces! Atmosphere is austere, lacking a little warmth. No outside signage identifying restaurant. no sign on restroom door which was weird. Our service was pretty good except our little splash of wine for each course food pairing was served too early -before our food course arrived. Dory's concept is nice but needs a lot of improvement to justify the price & a return visit.

Yelp
The server seemed new but service was good. Food was tasty and it was a fun experience. Would recommend, however not my favorite restaurant. Really appreciated them making a big deal about our celebration and serving a "baby cake" in addition to the dessert.

Yelp
For those that don't know Dory serves a multi course tasting menu. Pros: The food was excellent. I love the East Memphis location. The Service was outstanding. My husband really enjoyed his bourbon cocktail. Cons: The wine pours are downright stingy. If it was a 5 ounce pour I would be shocked. Even my husband who does not drink wine took a second glance when they set it down like, that's all you get? They really push the wine pairing which is 5 or 6 three ounce pours that go with the evening meal. I really only enjoy certain reds and whites so I decided to just do wine by the glass and for $17 a glass I should have just bought a bottle. I normally have 2 glasses with dinner but I had 3 since the pours were so small. So for not much more money I could have just bought a bottle of something I enjoy. That's what I would I suggest if you are like me and picky about your wine. Every table is under a bright recessed light in the ceiling. Not sure if they are LED or not but my husband and I swapped seats because the light was right in my eyes. He didn't like it either but was sweet enough to take one for the team. I have mixed feelings about the next item. We both have food allergies that could have been better handled. On the one hand, I truly appreciate that the restaurant was willing to accommodate allergies at all given the set menu. However, we were each served the others allergen. So my husband got a dish that I am allergic to and I got several courses with items he is allergic to. This would not be an issue in a group setting but we were on a date seated closely. We had to be cautious not to kiss or touch on our date night at all until we got home and were able to brush our teeth. I did wash my hands thoroughly at the restaurant. These are things people without food allergies don't think about though. In hindsight I should have asked them not to bring anything with either of our allergens to the table. I made the assumption that they would not do that so that is partly my error. Overall, we had a good time. I probably won't go there again for a date with him but I would go in a group of I were invited.

Yelp
My fiancé & I went for a weekly date night dinner. We were running 5-10 minutes late, so we called ahead. The hostess was really kind and assured us our table would still be available upon arrival. Parking is limited in Brookhaven Circle, Dory is no exception. TBH I was a little disappointed that they didn't have a valet service. Additionally, there wasn't any visible signage... it's the dark gray brick building w/ wooden shutters y'all. We were promptly seated in the dining room to the left. The decor was underwhelming. The tables are ok but the seats aren't that great for long meals. The windows lack treatments and seating proximity was a bit tight as well. Dinner started with an amuse-bouche; a tiny cracker w/ a sausage paste? & pickled onion I believe. It was actually pretty good. Next was an avocado cream with cucumber spirals, some kind of nut & some tiny crudité type veggie. A little odd but good. I can't remember if the scallops or redfish came next. The scallops were really strong in flavor. I'm not big into scallops but i know these ones were not fresh. Scallops were served over a mashed potato cream. The red fish was fantastic. A nice lemon, lime & thyme sorbet type palette cleanser was offered next. The duck... was exceptionally gamey. My fiancé said he thought it was good but I'm not convinced. The sweet potato & king mushroom served with the duck were lovely. I think a Cornish hen or quail would have been better executed than duck. Lastly the pork with au gratin... it was delicious. However, I don't eat pork regularly. So I would have preferred something else. Maybe ossobucco or braised beef rib. For dessert a chocolate mouse tart with brown butter crumbs and almond ice cream was served. It basically tasted like the fanciest butterfinger you've ever had. It was phenomenal. My fiancé chose to do the wine pairing. I didn't because I can't handle that much alcohol lol but I did taste each glass & they were all yummy for their respective categories. I chose to have a Chardonnay from South Africa with the first/lighter part of dinner and a Pinot noir with the second half. Both were great. Ah! I almost forgot the cute little Dory truffle. It's served over house granola. It's fantastic but after the chocolate mouse tart it was too rich. side notes: - again the decor is underwhelming & the atmosphere doesn't really provide an intimate feeling. - I did stop by the powder room, they have unisex toilet rooms and they are well designed. I hate going to a nice restaurant and the restrooms have been overlooked. - Water service was a touch excessive, yet it takes roughly 15-20 minutes to get a glass of wine. - the staff is very polite and works as a team to make sure guests are taken care of promptly. Which is refreshing since the service industry in Memphis is notoriously laid back and at times indifferent. - left hungry & no I don't over eat. Paid 320 including a generous tip. Overall, Dory is a nice addition to the Memphis culinary scene. However, having traveled across the country to many major cities and dined in upscale restaurants for well over 5 years.. I'm not overly impressed. It's a great start but can be improved.

Yelp
Fantastic! If you're an adventurous eater, you will love this farm-to-table spot. Everything was surprising, lovely, and fun. The atmosphere might feel a little loud, but it's all so well-appointed. Loved it all - a great date spot if you're looking to impress. I'll be back for sure!

Yelp
family run restaurant with lovely people but falls short on every aspect of a fine dining restaurant that charges premium prices lets start with the food. It's a tasting menu that fails to deliver. The firat courwe of a potato roulade was tasteless and undercooked. the second course was a scallop dish that was over salted. The third course was a smoky salmon that was cool and I didn't eat. The fourth course was the best... a pulled pork canneloni, the fifth a beef tamale that was good but the chef should not have served two slow cooked proteins that had no flow between the flavors What can I say about the dessert... the waiter said it was a recreation of a Duncan Heinz chocolate cake! Fortunately it was much better . Dessert in my opinion was the highlight . Really delicious and fantastic The wine pairing had no value. $57 a person with 3 ounce pours. The wine guy was like a robot and not engaging at all. We sat with an empty glass in between courses . Many of the pairings were obscure and not that great Then there is the ambiance which leaves much to yearn for. No candles, freezing temperatures from the HVAC, no tablecloths, no plates under bowls... so much opportunity to elevate the dining experience in this regard nice people trying to run an upscale dining room but much to learn We won't be back
