The 21 Best Restaurants In Margate

"Dory’s, a seafood bar on the high street, a little further down from the 2p and claw machines, is somewhere you need to check out. The menu changes depending on the daily catch, but it’s bound to be pretty exquisite. Crab on green beans, cumin-rubbed raw trout, and melt-in-your-mouth stewed squid with sweet tomatoes gives you a general gist. They also specialise in English-made wine and the changing by-the-glass list is great. Best of all is that unlike Angela’s, its equally excellent sibling restaurant, Dory’s remains walk-in only. Which suits the less organised day-tripper." - jake missing, daisy meager, sinead cranna, rianne shlebak

Overall, a pleasant dinner. I sat at the bar facing the open kitchen, which added a nice touch to the experience. The chef was very friendly and helpful, which really made up for the otherwise minimal service and welcome. The food was excellent : the raw sea bream was absolutely delicious. The plate of English cheeses was well-selected and full of flavour. And the strawberry mess was a perfect finish: fresh, indulgent, and not too sweet. Great food, and a nice atmosphere thanks to the interaction with the chef.

I had a truly lovely lunch at Dory’s Margate—a relaxed, charming spot that really showcases the best of seasonal coastal dining. I ordered the mackerel, which was beautifully cooked and full of flavour. The only small suggestion I’d make is to consider adding a slightly more sour element to the pickle sides, just to balance out the saltiness of the fish a bit more. That extra zing could really elevate an already delicious dish! For dessert, the lemon posset was a dream—light, creamy, and perfectly tart. It was the ideal way to round off the meal. The staff were warm and attentive, and the whole atmosphere felt effortless and welcoming. I’ll definitely be back again soon—highly recommended for anyone who enjoys simple food done with care and skill.

If you’re anywhere near this charming little town, do yourself a favor and run—don’t walk—to this incredible seafood spot. This place is hands down the best in the area. The service? Flawless. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about what they do. We tried nearly the entire menu—mackerel, trout, herring, sea bass—and every single dish was an absolute standout. Fresh, perfectly cooked, and bursting with flavor. Even the bread deserves a shoutout: warm, crusty, and ridiculously good. Oh, and the craft cider selection? Spot on. Unique, refreshing, and perfectly paired with the seafood. A five-star experience from start to finish. Can’t wait to come back!

Beautiful seafood in an approachable setting. Everything was exemplary but the crab on toast was life-changing; delicate and substantial. We sat facing the open kitchen and enjoyed fabulous wine and service. The chefs were happy to alter a meal for an allergy. Just so good.

Very expensive for what it is. The hering was try and horrible and very little of it. The mussles dish was too smoky watery taste of nothing. The pickled vegetables was a joke-I don't think you can pickle celeriac. The fish was not fresh. The waiters and the service was amazing. Hopefully the kitchen just had a bad day. I will give another try.

This is an experience rather than a place to get full. Everything is served tapas style where you taste and enjoy the flavours. Everything we had was delicious: raw bream, mussels, bass, trout spread and potato salad. Service was excellent and I loved the place. We are very happy with our choice to eat here.

Food and service were good but portions were farrr too small. I rarely ever make such a complaint but it's just a bit silly here. £9 for two stalks of broccoli

Thank you to the team at Dory’s for an excellent meal and even better service! Emma was an absolute delight, we had such a fantastic time and she made it even more special. We can’t wait to go back next time we’re in Margate.
