The shining star of Tacos and queso in the Austin area, Dos Batos encapsulates the word smoke, bottles it up and packs it into the savory tacos they have been serving since 2010. The single location located in the Walmart parking lot, has been consistent 100% of the time regarding their northern Mexico style food. starting off with some Queso or elote sets up the payoff of the tacos. The Pirata, a carne asada/steak, cheese and avocado Taco is my favorite and showing is the premium version. Triple the size of a regular. Vegetarian Don't worry, there is some options for you like the Ostin. If smoke is too much for you, you can ask for a non-smoky version which would include pastor brisket and carnitas as well as some other options. Oh, and there's plenty of salads for you herbivores. Make anything a combo and they can accommodate most allergy restrictions. With the addition of happy hour and micheladas, you're now able to enjoy some adult ravages with your meals. Please drink responsibly Don't forget to say hey to the hanging Cheech and Chong If you haven't got a chance to hit up Dos Batos wood fire tacos.

Google
Queso was amazing. My food was pretty good, my partner liked her taco too but she especially loved the house sauce. I wish the beef was a like more tender but I was very impressed with the flavor. The wood fired flavor really helps the taco. Everything here has from scratch too. The atmosphere here is really nice and open. I love the art work The staff are really friendly and the food comes out quick and hot. I’ll be returning for the pastor and crane asada.

Google
Love the place! 😍 People is so nice and they have the best shrimp taco 🍤 in town! And also the Queso & Chips 🤩🤯🤤 ufff!! Thank you so much and see you again soon!! 🌮

Google
Holy moly they might be the best taco chain in Austin. We are PICKY when it comes to tacos and they definitely won our hearts and stomachs! The pollo and steak piratas were very tasty and the queso and beans are an absolute do not miss! My one issue is their prices. For two people to eat their fill at dinner we spent $70 after tip, which is a lot for 5 tacos + queso and beans, but the flavor is worth splurging once in a blue moon.

Google
Salty Dry Ass Pastor Meat. Elote Corn had to have been AT LEAST ONE day old. 2 bites of the Pastor taco and 3 bites of Elote corn and I am Nauseous. Look at the pictures of how my food looked bc I'm not Mexican but I know DAMN well this food should not look and taste like this. Better off going to Cabo Bobs, Chipotle, or Moe's.

Matthew Blackwell

Google
The food is fantastic. The shrimp taco was a standout. I was expecting good, this was fantastic. The pirata was so tender, the pastor was crispy and juicy, and the salsas had tons of flavor. You can tell the tortillas are made in house. I'm very picky with corn tortillas, but these are ones I'd happily eat. The flour tortillas are nice and flaky. The tortas use teleras instead of bolilos and are clearly freshly made. Fantastic.

Google
Dos Batos is an amazing hole in the wall. When you walk in, you immediately smell the delightful wood fired ovens. My fiancée and I both got a premium taco without understanding the sizing. We bit off a bit more than we could chew, but it was amazing. Fresh flavors combined with a chill atmosphere makes this a wonderful hidden spot.

Google
In a town full of taco places, this is a North Austin hidden gem. Dos Batos is just simple, good, consistent. Clean and laid back atmosphere. The family cares about making good food.

Yelp
Staff was friendly, and service was good. The interior was clean and spacious. However, the food was not very good. I ordered shrimp taco, a taco with a cheese, tortilla, nachos, and elote. My favorite was probably the shrimp taco. It had some good flavors, but it was a little bland, and the slaw didn't have much flavor as well. The cheese tortilla taco was as expected but I felt like it was bland also. The nachos were pretty good. There wasn't a lot of meat on it, but the other toppings were good. I wasn't a big fan of the smokiness of the Carnitas and I thought the queso was a little bland as well. Lastly, the elote was a little too watery for my taste and I feel like it could've used some lime. they have this hot sauce next to the counter and that sauce is so good. It is not very spicy although there's a sign that says it is but that sauce was probably the best thing out of everything I ate here. I am giving this place only three stars because strangely the food is just a little bland to me. That doesn't mean it isn't salty. The food is salty, but it lacks flavor.

Yelp
So like many say, tacos are pricey ($6 for one) but let me tell ya, they don't shortchange you on ingredients. They stuff the tacos! And the tacos were really good. I enjoyed this place a lot. Friendly staff. I will be back!

Nels B.

Yelp
I love this place. Polo Pirata is my fav. and the warm tangy salsa they serve is to die for. I love the street corn as well.

Yelp
As you walk in, Dos Batos smells different than any taco shop! There's a deep smoky scent wafting through the air that heightens your senses and curiosity! I ordered the pastor and steak tacos and they were perfectly cooked and dressed! I loved the depth of flavors and the smokiness added to the experience. The service was friendly and efficient, and everyone seemed happy and in a good mood. I'm looking forward to a return trip to try out some other menu items!

Yelp
The hybrid shrimp taco is the best taco on the menu! Love stopping here for lunch and dinner

Yelp
I have been to Dos Batos oh so many times... for years I have been meaning to get around to writing a review, so here it is! Dos Batos has some of the tastiest tacos around. This is because the best tacos are the simplest ones, with incredibly complex flavors and this is what Dos Batos does best; simple food. The smoky wood-fired tacos here are juicy, tender, and fresh. The wood fired grill technique used here adds the flavor of mesquite to so many components on the menu. Whether it's the grilled peppers or salsa, the grill plays a critical role in all the flavor profiles here. The last go round this is what I had... Shrimp Hybrid Taco- This taco has light melted mozzarella cheese, sliced avocado, woodfired shrimp, onion and bell peppers. The combination of fresh ingredients is ideal for those who are seeking a hearty yet fresh taco. Charro Beans- A Tex Mex favorite, these pinto beans are tender and simmered in a flavorful bean broth seasoned with onion, garlic and bacon. Overall, this is a great place to get fresh food for a very reasonable price point. It should be noted that a wait should be expected here as the food is prepared fresh.

Yelp
This was my first visit to Dos Batos. The wood fired cooking of the food is easy to smell when you arrive. The restaurant is nice and clean with great lighting and plenty of room to sit. I had the pollo pirata, which was good but not great. The charro beans were very good and their chips were very good also. The tacos are pricey around here so a combo with 1 taco, a drink, some chips and charros beans for $12. It was pleasant though and everyone was really nice. Plenty of parking being that it's in the Walmart area. I would recommend this place and will come back to try more items.

Brianna R.

Yelp
Really nice friendly staff and good food. We arrived closed to closing time and I apologized asking if we could still order. They said they had no problem with it and would stay open as long as we needed them to. We still ate quickly and tried to not leave a mess behind. Thank you!

Yelp
With inflation this place's prices has stayed the same, and honestly I don't feel like this place is overpriced anymore. I honestly feel like this place is probably at least top 5 for best tacos in Austin and that says something. Do not miss out on dos batos. They look like a hole in the wall kind of restaurant, but their food is something else entirely
google avatar

Yelp
I have been coming here for over 5 years. Sometimes 2-3 times a week. The food is tasty, hot and flavorful. The recognize the same staff and they are always courteous. I love this place!!!!

Yelp
Yes. Yes! YES! 1st visit found by a fluke (wrong turn headed to a leather furniture store nearby). The Yelp reviews said it was good and I believe "us". I had flashbacks to being on our ranch with my dad and uncles grilling our food on the big black barbecue pits when I bit into that chicken taco (at new places, first time, I always order the most simple or most basic because if that isn't good, it says a lot). We took to go and even the small bag of warm tortilla chips and warm salsa were really great. The limeade on point. Can't wait to get back and TRY. IT. ALL.
google avatar

Stacy S.

Yelp
The wood-fired tacos and the rest of the menu is excellent. Near Walmart on Anderson Lane. Check it out.
google avatar

Esteban G.

Yelp
Very authentic tasting food with a flavor of northern Mexico. The wood fired tacos are my go-to. The tacos are pretty pricey ~$5, but they're well served. I always get the topochicada which is a limeade with topo Chico. If you're doing Keto, you can also get a carbless 'cheese tortilla' (Taco Loco). Every taco order also comes with chips and warm salsa, which makes it feels very homemade. The salsa verde they have at the counter is also hella good and spicy This place is one of those places that aren't too popular, but one my favorite spots in Austin.
google avatar

Matt P.

Yelp
I bought a brisket taco , which came to $9 with tip. The serving size was laughable and they put avocado on it by default. I was asked if cilantro and onion were okay, but not avocado. Seems backwards, but regardless the pricing is silly. You'll be well served to go almost anywhere else for tacos.

Nancy G.

Yelp
Tacos were gross. Poor flavor, burned and salsas sucked. I got two pastor and one shrimp. All tasted bad.

Kassy H.

Yelp
Everything is awesome but we've always ordered the pirata + chips & queso... I did try the brisket the last time and will always be ordering it from now on as well so good
google avatar

Manuel C.

Yelp
This is my go-to when I either 1) have little time and feeling a little anti-social - because they're pretty fast! A good 1-2 pounding of tacos and going about your day kinda place 2) have no idea what to eat - you can never go wrong with them - I order two piratas and a topo chico and I'm good to go 3) craving wood-fired steak tacos (omg it's so tender and juicy) And let's face it, where else can you eat scrumptious tacos whilst a mural of a Mexican general strapped with ammunition and a Samurai stare you down suspiciously? I love how there are cherry blossoms and cacti in the background The restrooms are also nice and super clean at this place and the staff are the super sweet cherry on top

MaLea S.

Yelp
I've been a patron since they've opened, and the quality hasn't changed. This is my favorite taco place in Austin. Everyone I bring here loves it. My favorites are the Pirata (both chicken and steak), the Mexican corn, and the seasonal Chicken Soup is amazing. The dining area is kept very clean and sanitary which is an added plus when dining here.
google avatar

Andrew B.

Yelp
Almost 10 years since my initial review and my opinion hasn't changed. Only reason I keep going here is my daughter loves their cheese quesadilla and queso. The pirata taco could be good but ever time I get one the meat is filled with fat and gristle. For the prices they charge they should use higher quality beef or at least trim it up better.
google avatar

Zhou Jin D.

Yelp
Well cook steak/chicken and fresh ingredients. The cheese in the taco makes it so good. Only 1 minus is that is over 5/6$ per taco. So it gets a bit pricy for 3/4 tacos. Still very worth it in my opinion.
google avatar

Tuan L.

Yelp
I think I found my go to place for tacos around work. While they may not be the cheapest($4+ a taco), don't let the price deter you because the relative size, quality, and taste we'll make up for it. The unique thing about these handheld treats is the meats are cooked on a charcoal grill. The flavor is unlike no other. The tortillas are made in house. I opted for the flour and enjoyed the warm lightly toasted shell. The beef and chicken were fantastic. Perfectly cooked and juicy. For some the lack of toppings may be a turnoff as the usual are cheese and avocado. There is no cilantro, onions, or lime, but there is red and green salsa. The green salsa is quite spicy. However, for me the lack of toppings is not a deal breaker.
google avatar

Samantha W.

Yelp
Great food. Great service. Highly recommend the "hybrid." And the green hot sauce is baller.

Corina A.

Yelp
Natalie invited us in to try her restaurant out in our trip to Austin this week. We came in on our last day in town and we ordered the brisket tacos and kids combo. Omg this was the best tacos I've had in a long time! I recommend this place to anyone wanting wood fired tacos and a nice michelada ! Yummy Thanks Natalie for treating us to a great meal!

Yelp
Drove 3 hours from Houston to get my Dos Batos fix! Love their Pirata Taco - smokey meat, melty cheese, and creamy avocado! Boyfriend said his torta was good as well! Everything came with chips and salsa. We felt very safe with their covid precautions! Everyone was wearing masks & tables and chairs were being wiped down as soon as customers left. Special bonus - you get 10% off when you place your order online!
google avatar

Javi M.

Yelp
The staff ( especially Nathali) are fantastic. The food is always delicious and on point! Excellent service. I highly recommend the hybrid on corn!
google avatar

Monica G.

Yelp
On Wed, Sept 2, while on the way home, I decided to pick up lunch. Never been there, but opted for Dos Batos on a whim (not to mention convenience of driving nearby). I found names of tacos/plates rather interesting. I went with Fish Pastor & Shrimp Hybrid on corn tortillas. When unpacking bag at home I found small bag of chips with each order. Total surprise, had no idea! What was even more amazing is the chips were WARM! Very warm!! and the salsa was sooo good! Tacos were tasty and generous, too. I prefer the Shrimp Hybrid. I'll definitely check them out again!

Carlos B.

Yelp
I'm pushing a 3* only because I did not try the tacos. I had the Caldo de pollo which was fair. seems like it was made by a college student who used canned chicken and minimal veggies. don't order the soup. I might make another trip to order the tacos. Friendly staff though. needs better ventilation, left smelling like a brisket.
google avatar

Jeremie B.

Yelp
Quite disappointing. I am a fan of most anything wood fired. Maybe I order the wrong thing, but nothing I ordered had a hint of smoke. In fact, beside the guacamole, the food was quite forgettable. The greatest disappointment was the charro beans. They had a strong taste of soap to the point that they were in eatable. Don't see me coming here again, especially for the price. Sad because I was practically the only one there.
google avatar

Kelsey R.

Yelp
Woodfired "Pirata" (Pirata- USDA Choice Top Sirloin Angus) taco! Yum...yum! I tried the Pirata taco, and it was really good. The meat was very tasteful and I loved the melted cheese on the bottom of the taco...cheese is what always wins my heart! We also got chips and queso, which were decent. Cute environment, you can also enjoy a beer here. Really enjoyed the Woodfired meat. Two thumbs up.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place for over a year but my wishes have finally come true! Dos Batos is a perfect wish come true.. It's like a combo of smoky bbq + tacos. The prices do seem a little steep (one taco for more than $5!?!) but they are definitely tacos on the bigger end of the spectrum, at least as big as Torchy's tacos. Among the options you can devise an entree for ~$10. I got the chicken hybrid taco and split a side of guac since I wasn't super hungry. It was a little heavy on the cheese but I loved the smokiness of the chicken! The tortilla was alright (I thought it would be more crispy like woodfired pizza crust, but it's just a warm tortilla...). The guac tasted fresh and delicious. Apparently the Ostin Taco (vegetarian option) is a bit lackluster. Meat's where the magic's at. Also, it's pretty good for groups. It's not too crowded and it's casual so it's easy to pull together some tables.
google avatar

Mardi L.

Yelp
Definitely such a great taco place. I have taken my friends to this place to get the brisket taco many times. We always get the best service when we are there as well. Nothing bad to say.
google avatar

Brad F.

Yelp
Awesome awesome awesome! Service is good but the food is beyond great. Angus beef for their sandwiches. I'm coming back today for my tenth time and can't believe I haven't left review before but argelio and the crew went above and beyond for excellent service today

Robert G.

Yelp
Be aware that this place may take your money and not give you all the food you ordered. We ordered tacos, one trio with chips, one queso with chips. Get to the restaurant for pick-up, and they give us the tacos, and the trio with chips. They don't give us the separate queso and chips. Go through multiple requests for the queso and chips, show them the receipt multiple times where we paid for it. They don't seem to understand that we ordered both the trio and chips and the queso and chips. Finally ask that we get refunded for the queso and chips. They don't do that either. Won't be going back. Have patronized them since they opened. Sad and pathetic customer service tonight.
google avatar

Deborah G.

Yelp
The shrimp and fish are frozen crap. It's an absolute joke for $6 tacos to have 4 small low quality frozen shrimp. The tortilla was barley warm, the aoili was Mayo with some stuff mixed in. I bought a small queso, 1 shrimp taco and a fountain drink. $13.24 plus tip. Not cool.
google avatar

Anna P.

Yelp
I want to start with the good stuff: - The tortillas are delicious. Somehow they are thin yet flavorful, quite different from most taco places in town. - The guacamole is average good. I enjoyed it. - Beef Hybrid taco was my favorite and I would probably have it again. - I loved the art on the wall. See the picture below or don't look and get surprised. - the staff is very friendly, they speak Spanish and got our food ready in minutes. - No coffee. I know they are not a breakfast place, but it would have been a nice touch for brunchers like myself. - Too much chips. Probably my fault for ordering guacamole and not mentioning no extra chips are needed. Apparently all servings of tacos come with salsa and pile of chips on a side. - Speaking of salsa, not impressive. - We also asked for 2 waters and those had very strong and strange taste. Maybe just that day the filter was broken, but I could not drink it at all. One last thing, we were trying to order 2 different Hybrid tacos (beef and chicken) but got both beefs. Overall it's an ok place, nothing fancy but clean and casual. In many other places it would probably be a great spot, but in Austin we are spoiled but top notch taquerias.
google avatar

Sara K.

Yelp
Wow - I love this taco place! I ordered the hybrid tacos, and they tasted amazing! Steak were extremely juicy and tender. The melted cheese went really well with the steak and bell peppers. I really like how they made the tortillas semi-crunchy. Tortillas were slightly crunchy on the outside, and soft on the inside. As for the salad, it was just okay. It is pretty expensive for some tacos, but I would say it's definitely worth your money!

Tim L.

Yelp
Well I ordered my food ready to pay and get told they don't take cash. I paid with card since food was on the way. As far as I am concerned if your business don't take dollar bills you are not in business. If there was a sign stating this was their scam I would have not gone there. All debts public and private means something to me still. I got the brisket taco. I was not impressed with the brisket. Tasted plain. I am a hot sauce guy so I was really hoping they could get back on track with a good sauce. Sorry that did not happen. Sad I really had high hopes for this place. If this is your thing this is what you will get.

Gaby L.

Yelp
One of my favorite pieces to get woodfired tacos. The service is fast and friendly. I've been coming here for over 10 years and I can't recommend this place enough. My favorite taco is the pollo pirata.

Jeff R.

Yelp
The tacos here are amazing! I drive to north austin a couple times a month to eat here. I hope they open a second location in south austin.

Maria A.

Yelp
For several years I've been eating at Dos Batos. I am always pleased and in fact it has become a family favorite. Whenever I need comfort food and something to remind me of home I think of Dos Batos. I'm writing this review to give a special shout out to the crew working today and through the pandemic. Every single time I visit, the employees have a smile and a pleasant disposition. The cooks in the back look up and give you a smile and a nod even though it is super hot. I appreciate your efforts and being open during these times. Cuídense y gracias.
google avatar

Abby Gail T.

Yelp
Big tacos, I like the crispness of the tortilla. I'm not usually a fan of flour tortillas, but these were good. Two of the tacos I ordered because it had avocado in it, but it was really skimpy so that was a disappointment. I came here because I was craving tacos. I was full from the quantity of food, but I don't think I was fully satiated. Wish I could've actually tasted the fish and not just the dripping wet seasoning.

Jay H.

Yelp
Great tacos and atmosphere! Would recommend. Unless you're on a diet. That type of thing don't go 'round here.
google avatar

Geoffrey C.

Yelp
I'm really surprised at some of these low reviews. I thought this place was fantastic. Initially, I was skeptical, because it's around $4-5 for each taco. Whaaat? I went into this thinking they were some regular ol' tacos, but they are not. These tacos are a bit larger, so 2 of them filled me up well. They include some chips too! Highly recommend the Hybrid and Pollo Hybrid. You definitely taste the woodfired taste in the meats and vegetables. I absolutely enjoyed it. No need to douse these tacos in any kind of sauces because it is delicious as they are.
google avatar

Sara O.

Yelp
This place is tucked away in strip mall mediocrity, so it's easy to miss. I avoid WalMart like the plague on society that it is, so it's a miracle I even found this place. The tacos are delicious! I've only had the pollo hybrid because once I find something i like, I stick with it. Their tortillas are just to die for, thin goodness. The salsa, is warm and I actually don't know how to describe it, but I love it. It's more expensive than getting two tacos at a taqueria, so I have had to adjust to sticker shock, but I have been several times so it must not be that off putting. Their guac is good, as is the queso. If you're over there and don't want to wait in a dumb line for Hopdoddy or have a real sit down meal at Cover 3, this is a really great option.
google avatar

Michael D.

Yelp
Outstanding! I love the tacos. The beef is tender and full of flavor, the chicken is juicy and had great spices, the veggies are grilled to perfection and the charro beans are to die for. The tortillas have that homemade abuela's house tortilla. The cheese is melty and wonderful. Their pineapple cucumber drink is unique and refreshing. Their salsa should be available in bulk! It is amazing. The two down falls of this place are the chips could be better and the price is pretty high for a lunch spot if you're wanting more than one taco. Two tacos with beans and a drink was about $14. Overall the flavor of their wood smoked meats will leave you wanting more. This place really is a little hidden gem.
google avatar

Danny E.

Yelp
Delicious food, all day, every day ! Wood fired meat is hard to find, so don't look any further than this place. Steak, chicken or fish on your choice of a taco, salad or torta ! Vegetarian options are also available, if that's your jam. Big lunch crowd, so I suggest you get there around 11:30 or so to get a table. Prices are good for the quality of the food. Check it out, you won't be disappointed
google avatar

Yelp
I have always wanted to try this place. I am a big fan of tacos. I love the simplicity of their menu and the fact that everything is fresh. The place was fairly empty and my order was quickly taken. I loved the decor. It was big and bright. I had to laugh at the Cheech and Chong dolls they had on the walls. I did get my food rather fast. I only opted for 1 taco. For $7, it did come with chips and a drink. Their salsa was a tad bit lack luster. I did opt for their green sauce, which they did label as "hot". That salsa had a tad too much heat. The tortilla was homemade, which is a plus. They also used real cheese, which is alway a bit plus in my book. There is a ton of wood in restaurant and I was expecting more of a "smokey" flavor in my taco The meat was rather bland and slightly on the dry side. I expected it to be a little more rare and juicy. I will agree the guacamole was just average, but what do you expect from avocado slices? Overall, I really enjoyed this place and would go back.
google avatar

Samuel C.

Yelp
Never mind the fact that this place is in a strip mall. This is an absolutely first rate regional Mexican establishment. The owners are from Monterey, and what you are getting is wood fired Norteno cooking. There is a limited menu but it is all good stuff. Tacos, and tortas with about five choices for each (beef, chicken vegan etc) When they say your stuff comes right off the wood fire, they aren't kidding. The roll on my torta was so hot from the fresh cooked meat, I could only pick the sandwich up with a napkin to protect my hands from the heat. The meats are great, the bread is great. A very very special shout out to the warm house salsa. This is one of the best salsas in Austin, bar none. I am not sure about their exact trick, but I think there is a ton of finely ground cooked carrot in the salsa. The carrot gives great color, great body, and it is totally cooked down to give a natural vegetable sweetness. Add tomatoes, chilis and spices and you have salsa for the gods. But the sandwiches and fillings are pretty fine too. Huge thumbs up.

Yelp
Finally decided to give Dos Batos Tacos a shot last week and it was definitely a mixed bag of feels...but mostly good ones. Walked in and the place was jumping with customers, the rich smell of wood fired goodness in the air. Lots of people were in there enjoying lunch time noms, so I was anxious to test it out myself. Their menu is very simple n basic, but man o man are they a bit on the pricey side. I ordered 2 beef tacos and chips n salsa for 2. No drinks..just water. Came out to around $20. The taste was great! Fresh tacos, good tasting meats and fresh tortillas.. on par with any good taqueria or taco shop in the hood. And this is what my brain had trouble processing. For food this good in the hood, you'd pay half the price. And then it hit me.. just like PhoNatic you pay a premium price for the location and convenience. This is a very busy shopping center with lots of prime real estate around so obviously the pricing is going to be a bit higher. They also use angus beef as well, if that matters to you. It's good food. Pricey, but very good. If you absolutely must have tacos and don't wanna venture off into the hood for cheaper pricing this place will do just fine.
