America's Next Great Wine Region Is in Arizona

"At Dos Cabezas in Sonoita I was struck by Todd and Kelly Bostock’s role as local trailblazers and mentor figures: don’t leave without trying their lemon pizza topped with burrata, snap peas, preserved lemon, and herbs, washed down with their zesty house white (a kitchen-sink blend of Picpoul, Viognier, Petit Manseng, Malvasia, and others), and be sure to try their canned sparkling rosé served with caviar and potato chips—the pairing is a can’t-miss." - Lucy Simon

Google
Really nice atmosphere and delicious food/wine - we sat on the outdoor patio with our dog, had the Allred pizza, beet salad, and sparkling pink wine - all were amazing and surprisingly not too expensive! One note, they had a lot of incense sticks burning on the patio which we enjoyed but could be intense for people more sensitive to smells.

Google
I stopped by to get some pizza on the way to the lake and I grabbed a bottle of wine as well very good on both counts is a little tricky to find the pizza place which is inside the winery this is an amazing value for a high-quality very good pizza we took it South to the lake and had a great afternoon meal

Google
This place has such good pizza and tones of wine to choose from. My son ordered the octopus and he loved it so much. I recommend this place to anyone passing by or in the area. Must try at least once 🥰

Google
Such a gem in Sonoita! They have many different varietals from bubbles to pink to white to red, so they are guaranteed to have something for everyone. The wines were so good I ended up buying a whole case to take home. We also had the pizza which was super yummy. My only complaint is I wish we could have done the wine tasting before ordering our food so I didn’t completely ruin my palate with all the yummy flavors from the pizza.

Bill P.

Google
Absolutely the best! It all starts with the people. Everyone from the owners to the entire staff are wonderful and friendly. They treat you like friends and family. The wines are spectacular. We have tried most all and have never been let down. Right up there with Nappa Valley, and maybe even better. The apps are always great, with plenty of choices that change often. The Pronghorn Pizza and the recipes they come up with are truly amazing. You need to try the combinations you think could never work, but they turn out awesome. We try and get there at least once a week, and yes, it's always worth the hour long drive!

Google
This is the pizza I've been dreaming about. As someone who was stationed in Italy for two years and knows good pizza, this is good pizza. I also did a wine tasting. It was all great.

Amy S.

Google
We LOVED the pizza here (you HAVE to try the Ham and Onion pizza... for brunch it was amazing, and dinner it would be amazing... just trust me!) and our favorite 2 red wines were the 2021 Guileon and the 2022 La Montaña... so delicious! Definitely worth taking a bottle (or Two!) home!

Stevo C.

Google
An acquaintance invited us to join them for food and visiting I was skeptical but that turned quickly into Amazement after my first bite of pizza! The red blends are fantastic. The servers are also wonderful. I have since returned and will continue to!

Yelp
This is always our first stop whenever we do wine-tasting in the Sonoita/Elgin area. The last time we visited was 2019. Well, lemme tell ya, it got EVEN better since then! The wines are still some of our faves, but ya gotta try the pizza. We loved it so much, we picked up another one "to go" the next day on the way back to the valley. Along with three bottles of wine. :)

Yelp
This whole area has some great wineries, as I found out! Came here with my sister. She LOVES this winery. We had a pizza which was good. The wines I tasted (basically 5 or 6 different ones) were not my favorite. There was one, which was the most expensive one, that I really liked. The waitress was nice, ambiance was so cool. Very quaint. It was a really nice visit, especially while the weather was amazing!

Yelp
Delicious, surprising and worth it! Everything was delicious and I wish we could have tried more.

Candace B.

Yelp
Wonderful atmosphere, wine and food was fantastic!!! Wish I lived closer this would be a weekly go to!

Karen M.

Yelp
We had a wonderful wine tasting experience out on the patio. Our server was very knowledgeable and answered any questions we had. The wine was delicious, and the pizza we ordered was fantastic!
google avatar

Traci G.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING!! The ambiance is so rustic and charming. The service was wonderful. The food was WOW!!! We had a meat and cheese platter that had homemade bread goat cheese, drizzled with honey, and pistachios, spec drizzled with honey, and lemon zest and homemade pickled vegetables!! But the TA DA was Myer lemon pizza! Sounds crazy, but it was absolutely divine with green vegetables and herbs and lemon and cheese out of this world!!! Can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Taylor K.

Yelp
Holy hell the pizza here is unreal. And as if that wasn't fabulous enough, the wines are great too as well as the simple house salad (amazing) and MULTIPLE other things on the menu (might I also suggest the salmon in a tin appetizer with fresh dill and homemade compound butter). My group was supposed to eat at the "fancy fine dining" los milics biscuit restaurant on our second night in town for wine tasting, but after having this pizza the first night, everyone in the group wanted to cancel the fancy reservation and go here a second night in a row! DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS PLACE! So delicious and our waitress the first evening (Jennifer I believe? So sorry I'm blanking!) was so wonderful, warm, and welcoming.
google avatar

Kendra C.

Yelp
Drinks, food, service, and ambiance were satisfactory. I will be returning to and recommending this establishment.

Christine A.

Yelp
To be completely honest, I did not want to come here because my husband had never been to the desert and I wanted him to get the maximum desert experience at the various wineries and this tasting room is more of a store front along a strip area. My sister insisted we give it a try and I'm very glad she put her foot down. This place is much bigger inside than it looks outside. And what it lacks for desert view, it makes up in every other way. It has some really adorable inside and outdoor areas to choose from to enjoy tastings and food. The pizza was mind blowingly good. We had a group of five and we tried six wines. The bartender was very knowledgable about their wines and provided excellent service. I would 100% return here again on my next visit to the Elgin/Sonoita area.
google avatar

RO B.

Yelp
Friendly staff and cute place that was very busy compared to the other wineries we went to. Food was from a food truck and was ok- mostly vegetarian options .Wine was fine, nothing special.

Yelp
Wine tasting-10/18/23: Came from Phoenix to sample some wines along w/ things in the area. Wine tasting went great. Our server was super helpful in explaining the wines & flavor to expect. She was patient w/ letting us take our time to enjoy our tasting before we tried our next choice. You can enjoy 1 wine tasting at a time & can take your time to select the next one. They also have Pronghorn pizza onsite where you can order pizza/salads etc. They also have a deal where you can do the tastings for $12 if you bring a glass from another local AZ vineyard- which I think is a great way for vineyards to collaborate. Would recommend if you're ever in the area open from 11a-5p year round.
google avatar

Steve L.

Yelp
Don't know where to start! We had a pizza which always unlike any other. It was fantastic in flavor and appearance! Can't say enough about the wine- amazing taste! I can see why others rave about this place. Please go try them. You will love it!!!
google avatar

Tiffany F.

Yelp
Love the ambience here! We came here after taking our pup paddle boarding at Patagonia (which is only a short drive away). They have the best enclosed patio.. and as a fellow plant lover/green thumb, I appreciate all the beautiful plants they have! We sat in the front patio (they also have a back patio) and enjoyed a 6 flight wine tasting. And bonus- they also allow dogs! The service was phenomenal!
google avatar

Vicky B.

Yelp
Enjoyed a lovely wine tasting outside, in the shade, and with some delicious "pepperoni+" pizza! Just like most of the wineries on the trail, bring your own glass and save on the tasting. I really enjoyed their wines. What sets them apart from other nearby wineries is that many of their wines are creative blends, and their pizzas are out of this world amazing. Oh, and they have a friendly cat too, ‍ Speeder! The staff members were so friendly and attentive too, and checked on us frequently. This was one of my favorite spots on the trail.
google avatar

Greg O.

Yelp
Come for the wine and pizza, stay for the lap cat. We each did a tasting and split a pizza. Had the pepperoni+ and it was good. Perfect amount for 2 for a light lunch. Wines were all good. I think the quintosol was my favorite.

Four T.

Yelp
We've been wine club members for years and we really love stopping by for a glass of wine and some pizza. The owners are so friendly and we love seeing them and hearing about what's new. We love all their wines, especially the sparkling pink, the Quintosol and La Montana. And they're pet friendly!!
google avatar

John W.

Yelp
If you can't find delightful everything here, you are just numb. Awesome in every way! Can't wait to return, again and again.
google avatar

Rick B.

Yelp
Awesome place! Karen was who took care of us. But, it seems that everyone in the place was happy, and friendly. When Karen started bringing the food out, it was off the chain. They do an awesome job of mixing flavors. We ordered the All The Bar Snack. The popcorn was crazy good. Also, had the pepperoni pizza. They add salsa matcha (they make it, in-house) and honey. Wow it was great! Perfect spicy, and sweet combination. They have amazing ambiance.
google avatar

Laura M.

Yelp
Great pizza and service. Many wines to choose from: some good and others not to my taste. $17.50 pizza and $33 bottle of red. Enjoy!
google avatar

Michael Y.

Yelp
Amazing pizza and great wine both reds and whites. Pleasant surprise. Specialty pizzas or make your own.
google avatar

Isabella J.

Yelp
Dos Cabezas remains my favorite winery in the area. So in wish they had views that some of the other wineries have? Definitely. But, the wine, food, vibes and the ownership make this place the one we always come back to. It's always a fun time here and it's a major plus that they are so kid and baby friendly!
google avatar

Lusy D.

Yelp
This is a MUST TRY if you are visiting Sonoita. This was my first time here, as I was doing some wine tastings around town. When I was at one of the wineries, a lady recommended this place for lunch. When you first walk in, it is a super cute place and the employees were very welcoming. The ambience is casual and a nice vibe! We shared two pizzas among 3 people and it was the perfect portion. The pizzas were amazing. Sauce is rich, toppings are perfect, and the crust is crispy. Please come visit if you are in Sonoita!
google avatar

Stephannie Q.

Yelp
I truly love Dos Cabezas and everything they have to offer. There are several wineries to choose from between Sonoita and Elgin, but none are quite like Dos Cabezas. For starters, they are very friendly and have top notch service. The ambiance, wine and large seating options both indoor and outdoor are just added bonuses. My favorite is to sit in their outdoor patio and take it all in while enjoying a bottle of wine and a delicious pizza or two from Pronghorn. Their outdoor patio is beautiful! I have never not had a great experience at Dos Cabezas which is why I will always come back and why I will always recommend them to my friends and family. Dos Cabezas and Pronghorn Pizza are a match made in heaven and I'm lucky I get to enjoy both!
google avatar

Yelp
I came here with a large group of women on March 26th. We had called months ahead and were very pleasantly surprised to see we were given 2 side by side private rooms with tables to dine and wine taste at in the back of their building. The rooms were really cute. The Beet salad was dry at first but after they brought more dressing it was great. The mushroom pizza was delicious and I highly recommend ordering it. I did a tasting of mostly reds. I really like 2017 El Norte. I thought the 2019 La Montana was too spicy but alot of the girls at my table loved it the most. They did have live music playing outside as well. I highly recommend making a stop here especially if you reserve the back room for a large group.

Kathie C.

Yelp
Overall a nice experience. Wines were tasty and owners were hospitable. Beautiful setting appropriate ambience.
google avatar

Nehrwrodrbote R.

Yelp
The pizza was absolutely amazing. Cool courtyard and very large inside seating with a patio. Wine selection for tasting didn't quite make me want to buy any bottles. Most of the local wines seem to be pretty acidic and tart and these were no exception

Katie L.

Yelp
Amazing pizza and wine. The service could use a little bit of improvement but the management was great. Would recommend as one of the best places for lunch in the Sonoita wine region. Extra points for its prime location and walkability from the Sonoita inn. Can't wait to return.
google avatar

Yelp
Located in the heart of Sonoita, Dos Cabezas is a friendly winery that instantly makes you feel at home. Owner Kelly came out to greet us, and we had an amazing lunch in the sun-dappled courtyard, which soon turned into a happily buzzing space full of locals and visitors. With selections from both the Pronghorn pizza truck and Farmer's Daughter bakery, the menu is outstanding -- hot tip, order the Lisa wood-fired pizza, with rosemary, potato, and garlic confit...may sound weird but tastes divine! And the cashew-almond toffee bar was amazing too...planned to pack up part of the well-sized portion for our return to Tucson but instead ate the whole dang thing. Eager to visit Dos Cabezas again soon, for live entertainment and another delicious meal!

Yelp
We stopped in for some wine on the patio while on our way to Patagonia lake! Everyone working here was friendly, helpful, and attentive, even while managing a busy Sunday crowd! We sat on the patio out front with our two dogs, though there is a patio in the back, as well. The winery is located on the main highway and overlooks the parking lot + open fields/mountains. It's a relaxing environment despite being situated along the main highway. The inside is decorated warmly. When tasting, you'll purchase a glass (either a crystal one or stemless plastic one) with the Dos Cabezas logo. Your tasting of 6 wines comes with the glass purchase. You get to pick from the 6 wines you want on their wine list. We liked everything we had! We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Shay S.

Yelp
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience today. Janice was our server and was patient, fun, kind, helpful, and very knowledgeable about the wines. I highly recommend this winery! The ambience and service is incredible.
google avatar

Zachary P.

Yelp
Stopped here as the first stop with some of my wife's family visiting some wineries. This was a high recommendation of their's, and I was impressed. Pretty small on the inside, but a nice comfortable patio as well. Service was fine, very friendly. To eat we had some pizzas that were very good as well. This would definitely be a place we would like to return.
google avatar

Valerie S.

Yelp
4 stars for this little charming gem just because it's so charming and they are serving up wood-fired pizza out back! We found this gem while venturing off our beaten path! So glad I found you! There is ample space for small parties and plenty of space for tastings and enjoying some pizza or other items off of their menu! We ordered a charcuterie board and I had a tasting. I really enjoyed two of the wines and purchased a bottle of their 2020 Pink. I will definitely return with friends and family. The service was friendly, too. All in all, it's a very nice vibe here! Salùd!

Yelp
I have long considered Dos Cabezas to have some of the best wines produced in AZ - the last time I went to a wine festival a bottle of their El Campo is the only one I bought. Yesterday was my first visit to their tasting room in Sonoita. They are located right in "downtown" (ha!) Sonoita, so this is a convenient place to start your visit to Southern Arizona's wine country. They also are one of the few tasting rooms that serve food: appetizer platters, pizza, etc. These are made in a food truck out back. The downside is that the tasting room is not located at their vineyards or wine production facility, so you don't get the "feel" of being at a winery. That's why I dropped one star in my rating. All four of us ordered a full tasting menu - I stuck to the reds as I normally do. Their wines are all consistently good, it's hard to go wrong with any of them. TLDR; stop here first and keep your glass for a discount at other wineries, have lunch, enjoy!
google avatar

Janie S.

Yelp
We have watched the winery and tasting room grow from humble origins on Willcox Bench . I love their RED a house blend with a great label of a cute lab. We always get their Bubbly pink in a can when we order their pizza . This is my favorite place to take visitors for wine and a pizza or maybe their greet beet salad as well. Lots of patio space in front or back with charming plants and adorable dogs on occasion. The staff is terrific from co owner Kelly to Karen who is a great server to Brook who always has the best smile - all three are terrific !

Charles G.

Yelp
Pizza was good. Only one waitress to serve all of the outdoor dining made the service slow. When we did get service, our sever was very nice but she needed help to cover the needs of all the tables she was responsible for.
google avatar

janie s.

Yelp
This is my Cheers! I always feel so welcome! The wines are excellent and just when I think I have a favorite I do a tasting and I change from the Aguileon from winter to the bubbly rose in a can for summer. The lemon pizzas are so good - well I hate to really write that as afraid none will be left for me. I am also a fan of their side of seasonal roasted vegetables or any of their specials. Everything is farm to table and you just can't go wrong . Maddie and Karen are fantastic servers and really know their stuff. Youhave your choices of a variety of quaint inside spaces or a number of various patio seating arrangements in front and back . Kelly and Todd the owner are frequently there working hard and glad to explain the latest addition to the menu

Yelp
Our first time visiting. Overall experience was so, so. We wanted to try some wine and get some pizza. We obviously came at a bad time for the pizza. Our server told us the pizza oven was going to be down for an hour. We said we would wait, because we were hungry. He assured us we would be some of the first pizzas out as soon as the pizza oven was up and running. An hour and a half passed and our server came back and told us we would have our pizzas out in 5-15 minutes. Almost a half hour went by and five pizzas came out, none of which were ours. Admittedly we were getting a little upset. He went to check and told us ours would be coming out next. The pizza was good. I did find a hair on mine (possibly dog). I would go back and give them a second chance. Maybe it was just an off day. It just seems insane to shut your pizza oven down during a busy Saturday.
google avatar

Steve B.

Yelp
What a fabulous restaurant! Nice atmosphere and amazing food! My wife's family has a Ranch nearby and Dos Cabezas is always a must stop when we are in the Sonoita area. The pizza is wonderful paired with the house Rose'. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Jim C.

Yelp
My wife and I have been coming here for years, and finally became members 3 years ago. For anyone coming to Sonoita for a day trip, start off here and enjoy some great wood fired pizza and i would be surprised if you didn't take some wine home. Relaxed atmosphere with a large screened front porch and plenty of indoor seating with a back outdoor partially covered patio. Come early as often the wine buses stop here around 11:30 and it becomes packed on a Saturday. A must stop.
google avatar

Cathrine B.

Yelp
I have been here twice and both times I had great experiences! Service was top notch servers were attentive and friendly made suggestions. Lots of seating choices cute front screened in patio and nicely shaded patio and seating in the wine tasting room and more by the bar! First time I went with my boyfriend and we shared a flight of wine and Pepperoni+ pizza. The Pizza was phenomenal! I'm more of a sweet wine girl and waiter helped me pick wines that were good all dry but smooth. 2022 Pink was my favorite, White 2022 was really good and 2016 El Campo was a bold red but a good pick. The second time I came in with my boyfriend and best friend and her boyfriend, we had great service and enjoyed bread with matcha butter which was delicious and I had the carbonated pink which I think is not quite as good as the bottled un-carbonated one. And had the Allred which was yummy but personally I like the pepperoni+ more. I can't wait to go back and try their desserts! Also I forgot my hat and the sweet ladies working tried to run it out to me and I missed them and turned around a minute later they had it behind the bar for me.

Yelp
First experience (finally) in Sonoita, Az. I am so happy to be here. Favorite wine: 2015 Red
google avatar

Frank P.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. Terrific wine and the winemakers are amazing folks. Great food & great staff make this a must in Sonoita.
google avatar

Tim W.

Yelp
A warm cozy atmosphere, friendly service and very good wine. I'd never heard of wine from Arizona, so I was presently surprised by the quality of the wines. I did a flight tasting and everything was superb. The white was delicious and dry and my wife decided to skip the flight for a full glass after the first taste. I continued the flight with reds and was once again pleased. We ordered the snack tray with olives, cheese, breads, meats and veggies. Simply delicious. We bought two bottles to go and enjoyed the at our air b&b. My only regret was we did not have room to eat the pizza which looked incredible. Oh, I did have one problem. We forgot to take home our beautiful plastic wine glasses that came with the tasting. Oh well. Perhaps next time I'm in Elgin.
google avatar

Dwight K.

Yelp
Wife and I were looking for something new, came across this place and had a customer in parking lot telling us how great it was. Boy are we glad we stopped...the snacks aren't crap like most vineyards and the wine was great...freshly baked bread - hell yeah we'll be back and we'll bring friends and family for sure. This place is awesome!!!!
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
Good pizza. Great food. Terrible service. We waited an hour and a half and never received our food, ended up leaving as we couldn't wait any longer. We were never told of a wait for food nor was anyone giving us updates on the food/service situation. We weren't checked on for 45 minutes and waitresses kept passing by our table, looking at us and never acknowledged. We walked outback and there was no one working in the kitchen/trailer. Very upset about our visit and advise anyone to be weary of the service.
google avatar

Olga F.

Yelp
Love this place. The best hand-picked local organic exquisite foods accompanying wonderful wines. The quality of this place is in a class of its own, compared to the other local wineries, which have lousy food carts on the side, separately, accompanying their wines.

Michelle S.

Yelp
We stopped here for 2 reasons. Wine and Pizza. But be aware, the pizza oven takes "breaks". We were told an hour for pizza which we agreed to. Had a glass of wine each which we drank slowly, waiting for pizza. At $15 and up a glass, I wasn't too excited about drinking more than 1 glass while waiting for the pizza oven to finish its break so I can have a $20 pizza. 2 hours later, we got our pizza. The pizza was good but by that point we were extremely irritated over the long wait. With all the wineries in town only open until 5 or 6, wasting 2 1/2 hours in one over priced winery waiting for pizza was not worth it. I probably will not return next time we are in town. No fault of our server who did his best.
google avatar

Cody R.

Yelp
Holy pizza and wine! Seriously outstanding wood fired pizza using locally sourced ingredients, quite possibly the best food you can find in Sonoita. The wine is excellent as well. Did a flight and enjoyed every wine I had. Fun decor and nice atmosphere. Staff is so incredibly kind as well! (Also pet friendly, like most spots in Sonoita, so that's a plus too!)

John S.

Yelp
Stopped in for the wines and they have Pronghorn Pizza under the same roof. We were lucky enough to have Kelly, one of the owners, as our server. She took plenty of time to help with the wine selections and we went with the cheese plate which was very flavorful. Ordered a Griffin pizza and it was very tasty as well. Turns out it was named after one of her sons. We will be back and would definitely recommend everyone one to stop in. Thank you Kelly and staff!
