D.C.’s Most Beautiful Restaurant Bathrooms | Eater DC

"A former Peet’s Coffee in Dupont transformed last year into a vibrant taqueria by way of NYC. The bathroom wallpaper choice honors the Bay Area, where its brother-owner duo Leo and Oliver Kremer grew up. Illustrated by Lonely Island’s Jorma Taccone, the design depicts West Coast icons like E-40, Too Short, and Angela Davis, its BART transit system, and landmarks like the Bay Bridge and Oakland cranes in Victorian-style vignettes. An additional D.C. location in Chinatown sports a similar look." - Abi Newhouse

Dos Toros Taqueria Brings Massive, All-Day Burritos to Chinatown | Eater DC

"For its D.C. debut at 700 7th Street NW on Tuesday, December 5, I learned the NY-based chain is bringing its forearm-sized, Mission District–style burritos wrapped in steamed tortillas—starting with Monterey Jack cheese melted onto the tortilla—and fillings like guacamole made with ripe Hass avocados, homemade beans, carnitas slow-cooked over 12 hours, chicken and steak marinated overnight in customized spice blends, or spiced sweet potatoes. The menu also includes quesadillas, nachos, tacos and bowls, fresh salads, and veggie-focused items, and breakfast burritos stuffed with bacon, steak, chorizo, beans, cheese, and eggs arrive on Wednesday, December 6. Opening-day promotions include swag, spin-the-wheel prizes, and a contest where the customer who guesses how many burritos the brand rolls in a year wins a $500 gift card; daily hours are 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. for dine-in or online pickup and delivery. I can augment orders with sauces (smoky, verde, habanero, creamy chipotle and spicy avocado goddess), sides like queso blanco, pico de gallo, corn salsa, homemade corn tortilla chips, and spiced and caramelized Brussels sprouts cooked with Mexican Coke, and take advantage of an all-day happy hour featuring beers (Tecate, Corona, Pacifico), wines, and High Noon tequila seltzers. The chain was acquired two years ago by Founders Table Restaurant Group, which also runs Chopt." - Tierney Plumb

A NY-Based Taqueria Rooted in ‘Tortilla Reform’ Busts Into D.C. With 3 Locations | Eater DC

"Founded by Bay Area natives and brothers Leo and Oliver Kremer, this New York–based chain specializes in forearm-sized, Mission District–style burritos wrapped in steamed tortillas; Monterey Jack cheese melted onto the tortilla is described as “the bedrock of the foundation” of each hefty handheld. Steaming (rather than grilling) produces a pliable, warm, moisture-infused tortilla — part of the brothers' stated mission of “tortilla reform” — and the nixtamalized corn tortillas from Sacramento Valley farmers are filled with guacamole made with ripe Hass avocados, homemade beans, carnitas slow-cooked over 12 hours, and chicken and steak marinated overnight in customized spice blends. After a six-month test run in NYC, the D.C. menu will also include breakfast burritos stuffed with chorizo; the kitchen will additionally offer quesadillas, nachos, tacos, bowls, fresh salads, and veggie-based items, while the new locations plan lively happy hours, wines, and canned cocktails like High Noon. The Kremer brothers cite decades-old Gordo Taqueria as their main muse, and the brand — bought two years ago by Founders Table Restaurant Group — emphasizes simple, beautiful ingredients and a focused approach to each location." - Tierney Plumb

Google
Today I visited Dos Toros Taqueria in Washington, D.C., and the experience was excellent. Wendy took great care of me — very friendly and attentive — and the food was delicious. I had a bowl with Mexican rice, pico de gallo, and steak that, to me, tasted very similar to arrachera. It was really good! The place was also very clean, and the whole team works together like a true family, which makes you feel welcomed from the moment you walk in. For me, coming all the way from Wisconsin, it’s something special to find a place like this, with Hispanic staff who make you feel at home. That warmth is definitely what will bring me back. Highly recommended! EN MEXICANO EN D.C

Google
It rivals chipotle. Wished they had plantains tho, I had a bowl it was very good, place was cleaner than expected considering the location. Service was bi lingual too. I liked their choices of rice and proteins. One cool detail is that they had the tortilla crumbs and also the forks were made out of plant starch to save the planet. Overall a great spot .

Google
I visited this restaurant and it exceeded my expectations in terms of food, attention and atmosphere. A peaceful atmosphere, ideal for going with the family to enjoy a good meal!! I only give 5 stars to this restaurant, because you can not give them more, I liked it too, because everything was very clean and very organized.

Google
Amazing Mexican food! The food came out quick, fresh, and full of flavor. Every bite was delicious — you can tell they put love into what they make. Super satisfying, great service, and overall an amazing experience. Definitely coming back!

Google
My new favorite burrito in DC. This place treats you right as a customer this burrito is more flavorful than the leading national competitor. The service is friendly, fast and bilingual.

Google
The food is really good, and the service is great. The place is really clean as well. Id like to thank Abigail a lot and look for her when you come

Google
Wow. The best burrito joint this far! Clean, delicious and fast service! Next time I’m around I’ll be coming back for sure!

Google
I’m from Atlanta, so I wasn’t familiar with this chain as I don’t believe we have them in Georgia. Anyway, we preordered as we were staying at the embassy suites. Food was ready when we got there. It was very good. Would definitely recommend if wanting good, quick Mexican food.

Yelp
Think Chipotle but they don't skimp out in the portion size. Super friendly staff, very professional. They greet you and are motivated. Ingredients is fresh and the taste was solid. Super quick and efficient, and a clean restaurant next to the capital one arena

Yelp
stopped here for breakfast for the first time got a steak burrito. it was already made/wrapped up. Placed in a bag for me It was okay. I took it for breakfast at work, it was semi warm when I begin to eat it I asked for medium and mild sauce and the host provided it for me. She was really nice! You must get your own napkins, fork, knife etc. that is not included in the bag I got a coke but you need a bottle opener to open it. The person at the register did ask me if she wanted me to open it, but I honestly didn't think about it until I got to work. Thought it was a twist cap

Yelp
Food 10 Service 9 Ambiance 8 Dos Toros in the heart of Chinatown, D.C., is a hidden gem for Mexican-style fast food--but let me tell you about the Brussels sprouts. Yes, Brussels sprouts at a Mexican eatery. Sounds wild, right? Well, they're to die for! I'm talking about crispy, flavorful little bites of heaven. First time I've ever seen them on a menu like this, and now I can't imagine a rice bowl without them. The chicken and everything else on the menu? Solid, delicious, no complaints. But the sprouts? They're the MVP of this menu--absolute stars stealing the show. If you go (and you should), do yourself a favor and add them to your dish. You'll thank me later. I'm already planning my next trip back. Dos Toros, you've got my heart...and my stomach!

Yelp
Yeah, Chipotle under another name, right? Not expecting much but wanted to grab a bite before the Wizards game and not wait for 30 minutes so decided on Dos Toros over ChicFila. Glad I did...very pleased with my gigantic burrito for $10 - ancho chicken, pinto beans, mexican rice, lettuce, smoky hot sauce, pickled onions, etc. Fresh and tasty and much better than Chipotle in my opinion. Would definitely go back..
google avatar

Sharonda M.

Yelp
Definitely a must try! If you like chipotle you'll love Dos Toros. While i was in the DC gallery area, i decided to grab a quick bite to eat and just started walking until i found this spot and it was a great first time visit! I ordered the chicken nachos and the staff were extremely polite and patient with it being my first time. A very similar experience to other Mexican grill style restaurants but they have a "smoky" sauce im assuming is made in house which is absolutely delicious!! Please don't skip over this spot you will regret it
google avatar

Yelp
Nice alternative to Chipotle located in DuPont Circle. In town and craving a quick lunch that was somewhat healthy and Dos Toro nailed it. The employee helping me was very helpful and nice. I appreciate that they offer more vegetables like Brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes, and farro. Best of all they offer crushed tortilla chips as a garnish. Sometimes you want a little crunchy topping, but don't have to order a side of chips to get it like at Chipotle. Overall I really enjoyed my braised ancho chicken bowl with farro and hope they expand outside DC.

Yelp
If you're looking for a tasty spot to grab fast-casual tacos after a Wizards game, look no further! Food: The tacos are made with soft corn tortillas, warmed before being filled with your choice of grilled chicken, crane asada, slow-cooked pork, chorizo, braised ancho chili chicken (pulled chicken), sliced Brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes, or beans. I ordered grilled chicken tacos with black beans, lettuce, corn salsa, pickled red onion, tomatillo sauce, crispy tortilla strips and a dalop of the taqueria salsa. Chipotle watch out, these tacos are next level! If you're not in the mood for tacos, the restaurant also serves burritos, rice bowls, salads, quesadillas, and NACHOS. The staff is patient and friendly, even when it's close to closing time, and the service is quick. One of the highlights is that each taco is immaculately packed to prevent the filling from spilling out. Ambiance: Dos Toros is a fast-casual eatery, with booths and tables that can seat 2-6 people, as well as a narrow bar area where you can stand and eat your tacos. It's conveniently located across from Capital One Arena, making it an ideal choice for those who want a quick bite before or after a game. Additionally, the restaurant has vegan-friendly options, so everyone can find something to enjoy. Overall, Dos Toros exceeds the quality and flavors of Chipotle. It's clean, has plenty of seating, and offers excellent customer service.

Yelp
As someone who loves Mission-style burritos and grew up eating them, I was extremely excited to hear that DC would have Mission-style burrito restaurant. However, I was disappointed with my burrito. I ordered a carne asada burrito for delivery and received it on-time. While the cost was very reasonable, the taste and presentation left much to be desired. A proper Mission-style burrito should come with chips and salsa on the side and this came with neither. Although the steak was cooked well and there was a hearty portion, there was way too much Mexican rice as part of a ratio with the rest of the burrito (and it was loaded on one side). Even for a delivery order, the burrito was way too cold Dos Toros Taqueria is better than a place like Chipotle; however, it has a ways to go before being on par with an authentic Mission burrito place like La Cumbre or El Farolito in San Francisco.
google avatar

Aarti B.

Yelp
Very similar to Chipotle with healthier options like farro in addition to the standard rice and more fresh veggies. Ironically, Chipotle is a few doors down. The farro, sweet potato, and brussel sprouts were well seasoned and very flavorful. Annoyingly a tad bit more expensive than Chipotle as Guac isn't included with Vegetarian Burrito, it's $1.50 more I believe. Like Chipotle, the burritos are ginormous and very filling! In comparison, the tacos looked tiny. I would come back to try the salad/rice bowl.
google avatar

Anthony B.

Yelp
The tacos were grey far as portion size and the ambiance was nice as it was a chill spot and very clean. Spiced Sweet Potato Taco-okay Seared Pollo Asado Taco-okay Braised Ancho Chicken Taco- very good They corn on a corn tortilla which I'm not the greatest fan of but was fine with but only giving one tortilla is madness as it will break apart easily. The thing that I really love was all their ingredients were so fresh!the staff was also nice and everyone smiled and worked together well.

Yelp
I recently visited Dos Toros for the first time during lunch hour, and overall, it was a positive experience. The food was undeniably fresh and tasty, living up to the reputation that had piqued my interest in the first place. Despite the lunchtime rush, which caused a bit of a wait, the quality of the food made it worthwhile. However, I did encounter a minor hiccup with their app. I had downloaded it specifically for the discount, but their system was acting up. Unfortunately, the cashier didn't make much of an effort to resolve the issue, simply apologizing without applying the discount. This was a bit disappointing. Despite this, the quality of the food and the overall experience were good enough that I'd definitely consider coming back. Hopefully, next time the app and the discount process will be smoother.
google avatar

Kleyderman G.

Yelp
The food was incredible and the service was even better, I can't thank both Joshua and Blessing enough. They're the two managers on duty and made sure that our experience was amazing. I had asked a few questions and they were very prompt to answer all of my questions as I have never been to this establishment before and was unfamiliar with a few items. The music inside the restaurant isn't too loud and beyond our chatter the noise level was very low.
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
Review is for the breakfast burritos only, which are a fraction above microwave bean burrito quality. They're pretty small to begin with, not a lot of protein in them, we tried both chorizo and steak and I'd stick with the chorizo - the steak is not worth the upcharge for me. They're good and quick in a pinch - but know that they are not made to order, they sit there wrapped in foil ready for you.

Yelp
Needing a quick bite to eat, a couple friends and I stopped in here on our way to an event we had lined up. I have never heard of this place before and thought why not. My first impressions of this place was that it was a brighter version of a competitor that was honestly two doors down. Think Chipotle, but somehow tastier. Approach the counter, tell them what you want, they make it in front of you, you pay. It was a bit confusing navigating this space and figuring out where things were and where they went. For a quick bite to eat, it sure was filling. I got myself a bowl and I nearly finished it. I didn't want to have stuff sitting heavy in my stomach for what we were about to do. Great spot to also pass the time. While we were eating it had a great spot on the corner to people watch. Near the arena.

Yelp
Thoughts: Alternative option for Tex-Mex Food with more sauce/dressing options Food: I usually get the burrito bowl with Mexican Rice, Chicken or Steak, Black Beans, Pico de Gallo, Corn, and chips, and topped off with Creamy Chipotle Dressing and Spicy Avocado Goddess Dressing. Nice blend of flavors, undeniably fresh and tasty nothing over the top seems like something you can cook at home if you have the time. The combination works a solid 7/10 and you can't beat the price. Service: I usually visit this establishment during off-peak hours; it is quick and simple. The staff is welcoming and not frugal with portion sizes but is with dressing SMH. The App does not work well, they should have the option to scan the receipt later after purchase. Ambiance: A typical restaurant feel, can feel a little congested but nice view of Captial One Arena. Pictures with customers and unique combinations would add a little more to it. Recommendation: Solid 7/10, great grab and go food and great price. Yes
google avatar

Takia C.

Yelp
Decent food for average price. It's like chipotle but with more flavor. Of course some different options. Over all I would return. Service was good. Looked clean for what my eyes could see.
google avatar

Fernando M.

Yelp
Surprisingly good. I had no expectations about Dos Toros, but I was pleasantly surprised. Food was good. They have a build-your-own dynamic, recipes are good it doesn't feel like a junk food version of Mexican food. Service was good. And the ambience is a casual restaurant ambience.
google avatar

Alex D.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting this place and I really enjoyed the bowl that I ordered online. Everything tasted very fresh and it is cheaper compared to Chipotle. The staff was very friendly and it was worth the walk to me. I will definitely visit this place again soon and recommend it to others looking for lunch in the area. I would have Dos Toros over chipotle for lunch!
google avatar

Ramiro H.

Yelp
There's a chipotle 2 spots over so I wanted to give this place a shot and was pleasantly surprised. They piled on the guac and had flavorful sauces. The meat was good and the service was excellent. I get that it's the DC district right across from the arena where the prices are STEEP but I'd still pick this place over Chipotle given they're both similar serving styles.
google avatar

Cynthia J.

Yelp
Wow, right next door to Chipotle (lol). Same concept but healthier side options and fresher food. Highly recommend if you're craving the old style fresh chipotle. When it use to be clean, organize and the food was always fresh. They even have Brussels sprouts. Guacamole is $2.49. Service is fast and the staff is friendly and helpful. Offered: Burrito, Burrito Bowl, Tacos and Salad. - Pros Instead of just one straight line to order. There are 2 lines; 1 to the left and the other to the right. - Hot melted cheese is available - Guacamole is cheaper than chipotle $2.49

Yelp
I wasn't expecting to enjoy Dos Toros Taqueria for quite a few reasons. I haven't enjoyed fast-casual Tex-Mex since I first stepped into Moe's Southwestern Grill when it opened in Pittsburgh in 2008. I haven't set foot in Chipotle since they halved their portions and stopped serving tomatoes after the salmonella outbreak. Or was it listeria? I'll leave that to Google to answer. Essentially, I was hungry, it was cold, and I had never tried it, so I rolled the dice. The best thing about the food was the hot sauce--very flavorful and spicy. Coming from California, paying more than ten dollars for half a bowl of rice and beans is not it, but I wasn't too disappointed with the food for a first experience. What really impressed me was the service. The older Black gentleman who took my order was cheery and kind, which is a grand departure from most service industry workers in DC. He was patient, friendly, and seemed to be in a good mood. He wasn't just nice to me--he was nice to everyone. To top it all off, they were playing the hits. Nothing but the hits. Nothing but the motha funkin' hits. And you know I enjoyed a little Beyoncé with my pico. I left with an original quote in my mind (feeling inspired): If you want to work just for the money, enjoy your job. The minute you let your job affect your mood, you're never going to feel like you're paid enough. Overall, I'd recommend everyone experience good service in DC, because I know it's few and far between. As for the food, well... no real comment on that. It is what it is.
google avatar

Niloofar B.

Yelp
Fun and exciting grand opening here today. I was looking forward to the grand opening as I've heard a lot of great things and I am a quite impressed with their delicious, flavorful burrito bowls. The crowd handled the super loud, hectic ambiance quite well and handled my order rapidly. They have two lines set up to expedite things. My only constructive criticism would be that they should add a plant-based or fish options for vegetarians and pescatarians. I look forward to trying some of their other menu items.

Yelp
Dos Toros Taqueria excels with exceptional customer service, making every guest feel welcome and valued from the moment they step in. The staff is friendly and attentive, offering helpful recommendations and ensuring a smooth, enjoyable experience

Yelp
Loved the experience, loved the ambience of the place and the treatment of the staff. Emeli was great at her job and made our experience even better

Bex C.

Yelp
Dos Toros reached out not more than 24 hours after my review, and asked that I get in touch. However, it slipped my mind. I am changing my rating due to this error on my part. Had our orders been perfect, that would have been lovely, but the customer service provided after makes up for the lack of perfection at that time as a new local restaurant.

Yelp
I was in DC for work and when I visited the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, this place caught my eye. I also started getting FB ads on my phone. After my visit, I stopped by this location for lunch. People were coming and going and I was lucky to get a booth which was nice. The ambiance is like any quick service eatery. The bowl is hearty and tasty but I personally like Chipotle more than Dos Toros. The chicken was prepared differently than I am used to. The Mexican rice was good and I got the corn and cheese toppings. Perhaps their burritos are better but I don't think I would come back here again.
google avatar

Andrea L.

Yelp
These are not "mission-style" SF burritos. These are venture capital-driven fast casual Chipotle wannabes, and THAT'S FINE, but also incredibly disappointing to someone who's from Northern California and loves this style of burrito so much that she asks all of her visiting relatives to bring her burritos, AND THEY DO. If you want to know what a real SF style burrito is, go to El Farolito in the Mission, and then you'll understand why I am so so sad and felt so compelled to write this review. The food is fine. The staff are nice. The place is clean. For some unknown reason, they were out of water cups the day we went. It's all perfectly fine; it's just false advertising!!!
google avatar

Jose Luis B.

Yelp
I ordered food to go. Service wasn't the nicest but was fine. Restaurant looked clean. I was asked to tip after the indifference displayed by the employees which left a bad taste in my mouth. I paid, tipped, and left. Food was tasty though.
google avatar

Amia P.

Yelp
It's ok. Dry. WHO tf made the sauces. The service was nice but dc is lacking in flavor and taste. Go to chipotle.
google avatar

Ryan K.

Yelp
As a Californian who loves hardly anything as much as I do a San Francisco mission-style burrito, I was very excited for the promise of Dos Toros. I got on the mailing list, downloaded the app and counted the days to its arrival. Unfortunately, they fall way short and end up with mediocre results that don't even provide an enticing alternative to your typical Chipotle. It was just one big "meh." Mission burritos don't take a long time to make, but I guess Dos Toros cares more about cranking them out, so can't be bothered to give us freshly grilled meat or any of the other details that make a real mission burrito special. They do the usual fast food thing of scooping your chosen meat out of the chafing dish in front of them. It's not fresh, charred, particularly flavorful or even very warm. Contrast that to any respectable taqueria or burrito shop in the Mission, where you're going to see the meat going straight from the grill to your burrito. While the rice, beans, salsa, cheese, avocado, etc., can be sitting there, the meat has to be the star of the show. Dos Toros, it seems, can't be bothered even to figure out a good short cut, like cooking it most of the way beforehand and throwing it on a hot grill or applying a blast of flame to reheat and gain some malliard char finish just before incorporating it. That simple extra step would've made all the difference. Sadly, I don't think I'll be going back for another try as it's the process that's flawed, not the execution. I'm left looking forward to my next trip back to California where I'll have to convince my wife to let us have burritos three times in a week.

Yelp
Excellent friendly service from David (Manager) and his team at Dos Toros Taqueria! The food was fresh and tasty. Would definitely come back for more!

Yelp
I hate being cheated. Ordered on line for a pickup and was charged a delivery fee. Homeless man staring in window. Food was ok. Nothing special.

Yelp
First time here with my coworkers and we were not disappointed! The food tasted so fresh and seasoned to perfection. The staff were amazing and greeted up, super friendly. Huge plus was the cleanliness of the space, cute and spacious spot. Definitely recommend the carne asada, it has nothing in chipotle !

Elaine F.

Yelp
Friendly service despite there being lots of families with kids and not quite knowing what they want to order. We were probably the third family in line right half an hour before Monster Jam at Capital One arena across the street. We got a burrito, a quesadilla (which is basically a burrito with melted cheese in it) and a bowl. We ate everything. The setup is very much like Chipotle with similar ingredients like salads, pico, meats, onions and peppers, corn, cheese. I was the bowl eater and had Mexican rice which was nice with a nice moistness and springiness to it as well as some farro, which was delicious, beans and chicken. I know you can get a salad but I didn't see any greens to add to my bowl (maybe I missed it?). The employees were super nice which also made it a good experience.
google avatar

Kelly H.

Yelp
Not as good as the nyc locations but assume they are still working out the kinks. The service was extremely efficient and friendly so I give them credit for that. The burritos were pretty good but the veggies weren't cooked enough and the overall flavor was slightly disappointing. The kids quesadilla was awful -- one slice of cheese that did not melt at all and some sweet potato chunks that fell out as we were eating it. Also the lids did not fit on the cups so we were all spilling our drinks. It felt so silly. Last thing -- there were forks and knives but no spoons? For Guac and taking bites with sauce it would be nice to have. If I'm in Chinatown and don't want chickfila, I might try dos toros again but overall not worth a trip to that part of town.

J J.

Yelp
I ate lunch here almost everyday for a month. Couldn't get enough of it. Great food. Fresh ingredients. It's like a cleaner and healthier version of chipotle.
google avatar

M E.

Yelp
Dos Toros is finally in DC! Super easy access from Gallery Place Metro. Their food is delicious. We love their queso, brussels sprouts, chorizo, and pickled onions. The tiled surfaces and friendly service give it a family ambiance. This is not your everyday bowl, but you'll want to eat it every day!

Mary N.

Yelp
Carnitas were off the charts good! Great with an ice cold beer. Sat at the sidewalk tables and enjoyed the weather and the neighborhood.

C H N.

Yelp
Again and again, this is consistently the best burrito in dc. Friendly workers, solid management, very fresh accoutrements, and tender delicious carnitas. They are going for o put chipotle in Chinatown out of business.

Kyle P.

Yelp
An extremely affordable and high quality option for quick mexican-style food. The portion sizes are fantastic, and the ingredients taste high quality. This is a fantastic alternative to places like Chipotle.

Jane J.

Yelp
As a Bay Area native who grew up on Gordos', I can affirm that the food here is VERY similar, although less greasy. However, I wish the portion size for the quesadillas was a bit bigger as they felt small and I was still hungry afterwards... it would be nice if they added more rice to quesadillas if beans are omitted as Gordos' usually does. I'd also like to see some crispy ends on the pork similar to Gordos', their version was a bit wet/soggy. The chicken is great though and the rice is definitely legit. I'd also like for there to be an option to add extra melted cheese to the quesadilla.

Yelp
Staff was friendly, place was clean, but most importantly: Mission-style burritos have finally come to DC, and they're really done well.

Yelp
It had flavor but unfortunately the rice was overcooked in some parts making some of it inedible.
