"The name of the game is all there in Dosa Express’ signage. Depending on the time, you’ll more than likely see a handful of solo diners at the basic Sri Lankan dosa spot, filling that 3pm urge with masala dosa or patiently waiting alongside crowds of friends and family outside for takeaway pani puri. Come in the day and you’ll more likely have space to breathe. The menu is extensive but you’re best off sticking to the dosa. Bronzed and crispy, with a comfortingly stodgy masala filling, you’re unlikely to be disappointed by this lunchtime fix. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch" - Jake Missing

I visited Dosa Express with my friends, food was very delicious and we would definitely drop off very often. Very good taste at affordable price. Staffs were really welcoming, polite and customer service was great👍. We also purchased their idly batter which apparently is preservative free. Taste of this batter came out way good than expected and it doesnt bloat your tummy like other batters do. This will be our go to batter from now onwards.

My family and I went on a quiet Monday morning because we wanted to try an authentic Indian breakfast. Since we were new to the cuisine we weren’t sure exactly what to get. I wandered up to the cash register and the kind worker helped me understand a few of the popular items on the menu. We walked over to the drink area and he even offered me a sample of a beverage I had never heard before (it was a spiced milk and was delicious). Once we had an idea of the menu we put in our orders along with cups of chai for the table. Each plate came out quickly and looked absolutely stunning. The dosas were golden and gleaming, covering the entirety of the tray. We were in heaven. Remember that nice man from earlier in the story, well he came over and offered to refill our dipping sauces for our dosas. We happily obliged. All in all if you are looking for an authentic Indian breakfast with above and beyond service look no further than dosa express (more like dosa heaven).

Ok. Tried this small hole in the wall place called dosa express in Fremont and I was very disappointed. Usually a hole in the wall place has pretty good service and food, this had neither. I entered the place. They had two tables filled on a Sunday afternoon. The one table had not finished their food and we didn't feel like it either. Food seemed like it was reheated. Ordered one Gongura spicy masala dosa. It tasted like they smeared lemons pickle on the dosa and gave it us. The chutneys were all horrible. Paratha didn't taste like aloo. Samosas were tiny and hardly any filling. Overall not recommending this place.

Woww I brought their in house batter, my family loved the taste and quality. Dosa came really great and crispy. The highlight is there is no preservatives in this batter. Amazing quality. Also we tried their samosa and Phool makhana Manchurian, very different taste. Chef did an amazing job, tbh. Unlike other places, they serve it in very healthy aspects. They have happy hour all days. Dosa starting at $4.99, unbelievable price. I never saw this cheap price. Ambiance was very welcoming. And the staffs were well trained. Very great customer service. Will definitely come very often to this place.

We visited on a weekend morning around brunch time and were happy to know that they have an all-day happy hour menu as well. We tried a plain butter dosa in a cone form, medu wada, and thatte idly from the Happy Hour menu. It was amazingly delicious! The sambhar and chutneys tasted authentic even though the chefs are apparently not native South Indians. Hats off to them! You can also try special dosas and a variety of other items from the regular menu. It's a fully vegetarian restaurant in the heart of Fremont. Check out the full reel on my Instagram page @veggie_central

Amazing food! Too good service. Welcoming ambience. 10/10 overall. Their dosa were really good and size is too big compared to other places, almost 20in. Good quality 😀

So this was our second visit here and we just wanted to get a quick bite as a late lunch option. This place offers pretty good number of options for snacks and what else can compliment a snack time better than tea?? So we ended up ordering 2 masala tea, one sambhar vada and one plain dosa. Let me start with masala tea. - it was really good, it came without sugar and they provide a jar of sugar on the table itself so that one can add according to taste. I couldn’t taste ginger in the tea but definitely other spices, overall it was worth it. Plain dosa was crispy, with less oil, came with three chutneys and a little bowl full of sambhar. The taste was great 👍 Sambhar vada came with coconut chutney and a bowl of sambhar on the side. There were 2 vada dipped in sambhar, served hot and fresh. Our experience this time was amazing, and we’ll definitely come back to try out more things on the menu. I hope you too like the food here!! Cheers 👋

Google
One of the worst South Indian food I had. Order Dahi vada which was like a rock, soaked in buttermilk and served with a topping that was really bad. The spicy upma is a joke.. Semi cooked upma with a drizzle of some Tabasco sauce. What a ripoff. The service was really bad when I was the only person in the restaurant. Would definitely not come back nor recommend. Even if you are starving at 10.30 pm don't recommend visiting this place.

Yelp
Bro, if you're craving proper homemade-style dosa, Dosa Express is the best place for that. The dosas are super crispy like amma's cooking. You can taste the pure authentic taste. Also the hospitality is really hands down. 10/10. The staff is very welcoming, they treat you like family. Service is fast, and they make sure you leave with full stomach. If you love South Indian food, you have to try this place. It's like eating straight out of a home kitchen, full of love and flavor. 10/10 recommend.

Sai Praneeth C.

Yelp
My friends and I were craving Indian snacks late at night, and when we searched for options at 11:30 PM, Dosa Express was the only place that popped up. We decided to try their vada, and it was perfect crispy. t's amazing to have a place that caters to late-night cravings, especially for young people. The fact that they're open till 12 AM and serve such tasty food makes it a go-to spot. We were so glad we had tasty vada at night. Great service

Yelp
We were here for quick breakfast they open early so thought of checking.... We had Idli sambar -2 plates Kerala Ghee Roast Masala Dosa Mylapore Podi Dosa Filter coffee-1 Everything was delicious especially the Idli's which we absolutely loved it... very soft & Dosas was excellent not oily at all...we will be back for some more Idli & try their other Dosas.

Yelp
Food - 3.5/5. I have been wanting to check this place out for a while now. Glad I was able to do so today. Ordered the onion rava dosa and masala dosa. Have to say I was disappointed with the onion rava dosa. It was crispy but really bland compared to some of the other rava dosas I have had. Maybe this is the southern Indian influence? I was definitely biased since my first time having a rava dosa was at a northern Indian restaurant and their dosa is sooo good, super crispy and more "toasted" compared to this. Even their chutney and sambar tasted much better than what I had here. That said the Masala Dosa is much better. I love the potato filling that comes with it. If the masala dosa is a bit more crispy that would have been perfect. Service - 5/5 Fast. Friendly and they took time to explain and mentioned Masala dosa is one of their popular items. Ambiance - 5/5 clean and spacious.

Vibhusha J.

Yelp
A decent place, with enough seating space. Self order, server will bring food to table I tried their dosa and idli Dosa are amazing. My husband tried their spiciest kara dosa. I tried garlic masala dosa. Both were very good. Podi idli was just ok. I'd have loved more podi on idli.

Vik L.

Yelp
- The parotta certainly felt like it was frozen parotta heated up and not fresh made. They should not be doing this. - Vada was stale - Sambar qty was very little for dosas - dosas was ok - the main advantage for this restaurant is that they are open late when most other Indian restaurants aren't

Arvind S.

Yelp
We went out to Oakland for a concert on a Weekday and on the drive back to Mountain View post the show, we were on the lookout for late night restaurants and I'm glad we found this place. Unassuming place, it was empty at the time, understandably so. As soon as a saw a spicy malai paneer dosa on the menu, I knew that is what I was going to go far. It was pretty good - 4/5. The portions of the paneer inside was pretty great. Probably a little heavy on the butter/malai which made it a tad heavy late in the night. But it wasn't really spicy, so not sure why the dosa is labeled as spicy. The Chutney and sambar were decent, a bit cold, probably understandable as it was quite late in the night. My friend had the thatte idly and he said that was a little cold as well. Overall still solid food and I will probably come back during the day, I would expect to enjoy the idly and the sides more then.

Chetan S.

Yelp
The best Thatte idly hands down ! And Ghee roast masala dosa made Kerala style with coconut oil for extra crispiness is so good! We will need to come back as this very very soon !

Bindi S.

Yelp
More like 3.5. We ordered takeout and with this kind of food,it's always better to eat in the restaurant. We ordered the idly and thr mysore masala dosa. Both tasted as they should. Basic. Salt was lacking in the potato masala that came with the dosa. Sambhar was good and chutneys ok.

Sakshi S.

Yelp
Absolute go to place, especially with kids. Great food, even amazing service and people

Vick S.

Yelp
They have very good deals and tasty food. Customer service is awesome. Keep up the good work!!

Kathryn A.

Yelp
The list of things I love about India is much too long, but a good dosa is up there near the top. These were so good they made my heart happy. Sambal was perfectly balanced. They give you enough sambal and coconut to fully enjoy with the dosas. But mostly just delicious, delicious. What a fabulous place.

Divya S.

Yelp
We went to Dosa Express for a late dinner. This restaurant is open till 2am which was a pleasant surprise! They have ample of seating options, casual ambiance and parking was easy to find. We tried their Malai Paneer Dosa, Spring Dosa, Onion Dosa, Kothu Paratha, Podi Idli, Veg Biryani, and their Diwali special Chattrapati Dosa Everything was 10/10!! They have more than 100+ variety of dosa, which blew our mind! Each dosa comes with Sambhar and 3 chutneys, which were equally delicious! I highly recommend trying their Badaam Milk! It was soo good. They make the badaam milk powder for Badaam Milk in house, it's the best in the Bay! The owner is so sweet and welcomed us with a smiling face. Definitely coming back to try more!!

Abha S.

Yelp
Food is good, not the best dosa, but quick and satisfying. The sambar is bland, the masala also bland. The green coconut chutney is palatable. Filter coffee also not authentic. Overall it's satisfying if you have craving but not worth driving from far. Don't go by pics on the page. They don't have paper dosa. Service is very polite and ambiance is average. Hole in wall, but clean. Another thing to note is they are open late so may be a great option for a late night craving :)

Yelp
Dosai Xpress Sri Annapoorna opened in Peri Peri Grill House's vacated space. Interior similar + more decor. Offerings(South Indian Vegeterian): special dosai, rava dosai, uthappam, rice combos, drinks, rice varieties, tiffin combos, starter-appetizers, soups, salads. Greeted after entering. Ordered at front counter, paid, assigned a table. Got food 5ish minutes later. Eats: Fremont Restaurant Week special: Dosa combo with idly, vada, sweet dessert, chai (9.99) -only spoon given. Most Indian food eaten with hands. -idly is the spongy round white rice cake, vada is the lightly fried brown donut shape cake. Dosa is a large thin savory crepe made from rice & white gram. -chai was tasty as usual. Sweet dessert was rava, made from wheat. Not overly sweet.... -dipping sauces-3 chutneys, one sambar. -food was freshly made or made recently. Yummy indeed. Ate it either by spooning sauces onto breads or breaking same and dipping into chutneys, sambar. *combo specially for restaurant week. Menu has similar combos with breads, dosas....

Yelp
Amazing food! Too good service. Welcoming ambiance. 10/10 overall. Their dosa were really good and size is too big compared to other places, almost 20in. Good quality

Anjali H.

Yelp
Awesome food, especially Badaam milk. We ordered multiple items and everything was fresh and tasty.

Sourabha N.

Yelp
They started the dine in menu just to attract customers. The very first time we visited the waiter was very nice . But on later visits , the quality of chutneys and sambar just getting average. They even stopped giving drinking water ( tap water) just to make money by charging customers on water bottles. They lost atleast 4 customers today. We are not going back.

Rupinder R.

Yelp
So this place is another small whole in the wall type, but they have really amazing dosa options. I highly recommend it.

Steffi C.

Yelp
I purchased the idli and dosai batter from them to experiment with at home this week. The idlis turned out well, incredibly soft and fluffy. Their batter surpasses the quality of those available at grocery stores and other places. Additionally, the prices for the batters are quite reasonable. Glad that this place is still consistent in terms of quality of food.

Raja S.

Yelp
Onion rava Masala Dosa #34d: yummy. Would be awesome for dune in than togo. They should learn from ID Express restaurant on how they pack Butter cone dosa: my daughter loved it Idli was soft and really yummy Vada was so so. Pongal was good, but lots of ghee. Green cilantro and coconut chutneys were awesome. Sambar was good. Fast service.

Pia M.

Yelp
The dosa was amazing. First time I tried it. The owner is so friendly and the staff too. They make you feel at home. The best dosa masala. I will be back for sure.

Sahridaya N.

Yelp
Went on the last day of Fremont Restaurant Week to try out their idly-vadai-dosa combo! Great deal for $9.99 with a cup of Masala chai in addition to what you see on the plate. They were kind enough to swap tea for filter coffee when we requested for no extra charge although it didn't come as part of the ongoing promotion. 10/10 for little things like this that instantly maximise customer experience. Loved all the chutneys and sambar. The masala (inside dosai) alone was a bit too bland for me. Will definitely be back to try other items off their menu.

Ariana J.

Yelp
Hundreds of Indians flocked to Dosa Express for their grand opening event sept 1st and 2nd. Luckily my friend shared the event with me so I attended today to grab a tasting plate consisting of Plain dosa which was super thinly spread, crispy, very tasty made with well fermented batter by an expert chef right in front of us, crispy vada and thatte idly. Served with 3 chutneys: coconut a classic favourite, my favourite red chutney and mint chutney along with piping hot sambar. And all this was free of cost for the event!! Kudos to the staff for exceptionally serving this amazing freshly made piping hot food for hundreds of people who attended the grand opening very quickly. This is so close to my place. Can't wait to come back and try all items on their menu. A happy start to the weekend with home style tiffins.

Suresh R.

Yelp
Tried their Holiday menu few times Enjoyed the food every time Thanks to Praveen who accommodated any requests

Harsh S.

Yelp
This is one of the best south Indian places that has just opened up. Absolutely loved it for the food, their prices and their hospitality. 1. They gave us free chai and it was really nice chai. 2. We ordered Medu Vada first and it was fresh and crisp 3. We also ordered a combo with Kara Dosa and it was awesome. 4. They gave us extra chutney and sambhar with a smile and we really loved the food. Highly recommend it.

Jesse S.

Yelp
Great dosa friendly good vibes. included 3 chutneys and a sweet Well as Sambhar yummy

Sunil R.

Yelp
This is a new location that is just 3 months old and based on the quality of the food is going to do well. The dosas were excellent. Note that it's not much look to at and is the quintessential hole in the wall. Prakash our waiter was awesome, such an unassuming humble helpful person. I wish him and the restaurant the very best.

Shreya S.

Yelp
Amazing and authentic dosa! Must try their Kara dosa and garlic dosa! It's clean and friendly atmosphere and quick refills for chutney and shambar!

Gayathri S.

Yelp
We recently bought food from them for our housewarming party, and it was an excellent choice. We ordered their signature Thatu Idli, Veg Korma, and a few other dishes. Everything was incredibly delicious, well-packed, and prepared on time. Highly recommended!

Priyanka K.

Yelp
Hole in the wall restaurant, with plenty of seating space indoors. The food is delicious and fresh! We tried idli, vada, utthapam, and podi idli (see below). They serve food in utensils unlike many competitors in the area that serve in plastic wasteful containers, so big kudos to them for being mindful. I would say the following: 1. Food is quite expensive - it is easily a minimum of $15 per person for a full tummy. We spent ~$42 on 3 dishes. 2. The podi idli could've been better. The idli was fried in ghee and podi and all I could taste was ghee. As a recommendation, the ghee and podi could be given on the side and fried could be an option. Highly recommend Dosa Express for fresh, south Indian food!

George G.

Yelp
This being my 1st dosa restaurant experience, having come because of the Chron review this past week, I'm not qualified to judge comparatively. But the restaurant is great - clean and well-lit and all that - with a very friendly staff, and the food (and the apparently house-made mango lassi) were delicious. I had the Tomato Onion Chili Uthappam, and it was a little like a really subtle and lighter version of a pizza: a more chewy crepe than the regular dosa, I gathered - warm, filling, and satisfying. Highly recommend!

Nidhi P.

Yelp
Always wanted to try this place in town and finally tried it. The food was okay. The one thing that I loved here was the onion rava dosa. The methu vada and masala dosa were okay. I wasn't a fan of the sambhar either. It was steamed lentils with not much flavor. The potato flavor didn't have much flavor. It was just steamed potato in salt and turmeric. The staff here was really nice and hence me giving this place a 3 star. If you're looking for simple flavors, then this place is for you.

Afzal S.

Yelp
I had a great breakfast here that took me right back to the time I enjoyed dosa and vada in Chennai. The dosa was crispy and flavorful, and the vada had just the right amount of spice. The coffee was smooth and a perfect complement to the meal. The owner was incredibly hospitable, and chatting with him added a personal touch to my visit. Even on a weekday morning, the restaurant was pleasantly busy, which speaks to its popularity. The cozy, welcoming atmosphere made the experience even better. I'll definitely be coming back and highly recommend it if you're craving authentic South Indian flavors.

Reeta

Yelp
Basic quality food nothing outstanding to come back again . Ambience is dull and boring

Imran S.

Yelp
Great taste, fairly priced and good customer service. Staff is very polite and was given extra sambar when asked for it.

Monica C.

Yelp
The food was pretty decent. I had the filter coffee, mini idols and masala dosa. Everything was decent. The spice level was less which was wonderful since my non Indian friends and I cannot handle very hot food. The idols were really good. The staff was friendly and polite. We sat and chatted for a long time and the staff was kind. Overall a very happy experience.

Joshua R.

Yelp
I didn't even eat here and they're getting 5 stars, that's just how well the service is. I'm a gig worker and was picking up a customer's order. Once the order was ready the young gentleman who handed me it just struck up a casual conversation. He asked me if delivering food is difficult, how many hours I've been out, where I'm from, etc. He just seemed genuinely interested in me as a human being and it was very wholesome and comforting. I wish him and the restaurant the best. Plus, it smelled absolutely divine in there so I will definitely come back to actually try some meals myself!

Pranathi B.

Yelp
Don't forget to checkin to get $5 off. Place seems new and garnered quite a few positive reviews already so we decided to check it out after a long day of shopping. Place was packed on Saturday evening and there was a wait time as well. We were literally famished and placed a large order after finding a table. There was a large wall mural which kind of felt out of place with the overall vibe, other than that the ambiance was typical of other Indian restaurants. They had some specials advertised on a board in addition to their regular menu. We placed an order for idli, vada, dosa combo, rava dosa, rotis and Kurma from the special menu, dahivada and cheese dosa for the kids. The food took almost 25-30 minutes to come out, I can understand they are still new and need some time to get the machine well oiled and running smoothly so I will not count it against them for now. They also advertised some prices for the special menu items but they charged me more for it after placing the order, when I asked them they simply said that's how it is. It's not a lot of money but it's not right to bait and switch. Coming to food: Idli: fluffy pillowy goodness, perfection! Sambar: had the makings of a good sambar but fell terribly short. Passable. Dosa: nothing noteworthy, no complaints Rava dosa: that characteristic interplay of crunchy and soft goodness was missing. Batter seemed to be incorrect. Chutneys: decent and freshly made. Vada: cooked pretty well but the outside was not crispy enough. Rotis and Kurma: Kurma again had all the correct ingredients but fell short of knocking it out of the park, the rotis hardened up after sitting around for a while.

Vibhuti V.

Yelp
Visited this place for Sunday brunch. Not much crowded. Ordered Onion Rava Dosa. The dosa was tasty and fresh. I just felt this place is bit pricey compared to other dosa places

Kalyani R.

Yelp
A new south Indian food joint=can't wait to try it out. I went today which was a grand opening. So it was crowded. Some things I felt so good about was 1) service 2) their chutneys (beats my other favorite spots) 3) their grand opening food tasting event. Extremely excited to be a regular here. Things I wish they work on: Cleanliness or toilets and the whole place in general. Service time and expectations

A B.

Yelp
Best dosa place in Fremont. Friendly, delicious food, awesome spot. And seems like a family business too.

Vaishnavi A.

Yelp
They had a promotional event and we happened to be there. We got idli, meru vada and small masala dosa for free. The vada and dosa were flawless. The dosa especially had a very nice crisp which shows that batter is perfectly fermented. The idli though is made with idli rice which I'm not a very big fan of. But, it was soft and have to give it to chef. Very casual ambience setup. The staff were friendly. One very important drawback I found were the chutneys. They are watery and could've tasted better. Edit: I was shocked by the response the business owner gave. We had the food in their facility, but the usage of foul words sayings it's a takeaway is not appreciated. Anyways, I reviewed their food and not the response. So, Iwould want to stop this conversation.

Rashmi K.

Yelp
We went here late night looking for dosa. Tried plain dosa, masala dosa, rava masala dosa. Dosa was big enough to be filling. The masala, sambar and chutney portions were small which I think was good coz nothing went waste in our plates. They provided when we requested more of a specific chutney. One of the best potato masala I had in bay area. All in all we were pleased with the food, not so much with the ambience and the smell. Service is good. We would like to try this place again!

Li J.

Yelp
Food is decent, but just not at the mark of great that I've had at other places. My main issues is certain dishes the textures were not as light or spongy as normally for the item, certain dishes were not spicy/acidic enough, and some items just overall were not as flavored as I've had elsewhere. Still a good decent place, just not a 5/5 for me.

Meena B.

Yelp
Location: Easy access from 880 freeway. Ample parking. Pricing: $$ Ambience: Could do better. Very dull lighting, wiring around very visible. Floor was cracked at many places. Tables and chairs acceptable. Bathrooms are common. It was clean but had lot of storage boxes etc. Kids friendly: yes menu is kids friendly Groups: yes good for groups. Although restaurant is small. Can hold may be group 15-20. Service: owner Noor very nice, kind and friendly. Staff did good job. Food was served fairly quick. Food: idlis 5/5 (best idlis so far i have had in bay area restaurants, after what I make at home) Chutneys 5/5 Dosas: 4/5 Vada: 5/5 Sambar: 3/5 (wasn't the best) Coffee & chai: 5/5 Podi dosa: 4/5 Kothu paratta: 3/5: amount of raita for given entree was not sufficient. Either increase the raita amount or decrease the kothu paratta amount. Portions: right amount of condiments for dosa. Definitely will go back there to try other dishes. My only request is that they improve the ambience. I wish they take pride in every aspect of their business. It should not be one or the other. Update: kothu parataa caused stomach upset.

Yogini S.

Yelp
I picked up a masala dosa, sambar and bissebellebath from here. All the food was horrible. I mean how can an Indian restaurant be this awful. No salt very bland. The sambar was just liquid I could have taken a bath in it. I got the 24 oz and there was only two pieces of carrots in it. Shouldn't these ppl who charge so much have a conscience? I hope they close down soon. ***DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT OR ORDER FOOD FROM HERE***

Animesh D.

Yelp
Great food, good ambiance, recommended. The food was handled with care and the staff was prompt; it will fill out your dosa / uttapam cravings for the weekend perfectly!
