"Indian street food purveyor Dosa Factory shuttered its Back Bay expansion at some point in the last few months. 'For lease' signs are now hanging in the shop windows, and an employee at Dosa Factory’s original Cambridge location (571 Massachusetts Ave., Central Square) confirms the Newbury Street closure, as does Yelp. The most recent Instagram photos tagged to that location date back to May 2018, as do the most recent Yelp reviews." - Terrence Doyle

The lunch buffet had an assortment of meat and vegetarian options. Unfortunately the chicken in the tikka masala and the goat in the curry were dry, and the rice was hard and brittle. Their eggplant fritters were okay, as was the saag paneer. Garlic naan was fine. For $15, I expected a better Indian buffet, but sadly it wasn't what I had hoped it would be.

Never go to this place. This is the worst place for food. Their lunch buffet is pathetic and grossly expensive. The food was cold. Most of it. Though they did get us soup when we complained. Most of the other starters were cold and bland. And to add insult to the injury they charge for 18% gratuity for parties of 3 or more. Update: visited this place again last week and was somewhat surprised. Quality of food was marginally better. Lunch Buffet was decent and dosa was palatable. Service could be a bit better, though.

We have eaten here a half dozen times and always enjoyed it. I see the one star reviews here and just don't agree - perhaps the restaurant has undergone changes recently. We recently brought four friends with us and they all enjoyed it as well - so we aren't crazy! As others have said this is a proper sit down restaurant. Not sure where the "street food" aspect comes in I will admit I can't speak to the authenticity of the food, but we regularly eat Indian and we think it's good. Only thing we were unhappy with was the Aloo Paneer which was very bland. Portions can vary but overall decent value. Service can be tricky too. Have had the same waiter be very inattentive and slow one day, and then a pleasure the next time we were there.

We ate there twice now and each time was very good. My wife is Indian and she loves the Sambar they serve with Dosa or Idli. Chat is also very good and dosa is decent. Staff is very friendly and attentive. Update: it's our fourth time here and before it was always good. Today, Sunday evening, the restaurant is hopelessly understaffed. We waited 45min for our food, but had to get utensils ourselves, had to ask for water that was never refilled. On top of things, food was so spicy that my Indian wife couldn't eat it. Complete screw up! Guys, if you don't have the staff to run a restaurant then CLOSE IT FOR THE DAY!

Terrible experience. Food-wise it was OK, their deserts are sweet and their entrees are filling. But the service was atrocious. I don't know much about Indian food so my girlfriend was ordering and deciding for us and the blatant sexism the waiters had, turning to me and giving me looks like "she's so ridiculous" for asking questions on the menu, especially when what they served us want what was written on the menu. Then their reaction when she was the one who was paying? I did well controlling myself. Unrelated to us but related to their poor service, there was a vegetarian family behind us who were served meat and simply left without paying after the servers just shrugged at them. As if to make up the losses for their mistake they decided to overcharge us on our meal. Would not eat there again.

My girlfriend and I went here craving Indian food. What we got was an innovative and exciting interpretation of south Indian food with a modern twist. The portions are gigantic, all the meat is tender and flavorful, and the service is fast and polite. We're going back soon!

I didn't like it. I was there 2 oclock.. the foot wasn't heated, very cold, and there were some bad flavors, the ingredients are not listed, they only put the indian name, how do i know if they are vegan or not? The mango lassi and hot naan were the only fresh thing, the waitress super sweet, but i only recommend to arrive very early to eat just made or to order from the menu, not the all you can eat section, thanks.

Stay away from this place. Service is garbage. Food is garbage. Homeless people come off the street and use their bathroom and lock themselves in for an hour so you can't even use the bathroom. The food quality is no where near Indian. Very bland and no taste. As an Indian I have some expectation of Indian taste but this was nothing like India and their slogan is "Indian street food." We got our bill and no compensation or anything. NOT EVEN AN APOLOGY. PAID $158.69 and no satisfaction. You would think being on newbury street in Boston this place would have their head on straight but the non Indian clients don't know the difference and that must be their main business. STAY AWAY. I'D RATHER PAY 5 TIMES THE MONEY AND GO TO THE SKETCHIEST PLACE IN BOSTON TO EAT KNOWING SERVICE AND FOOD WOULD BE BETTER. I wouldn't even tell my worst enemy to eat here.
