"Reliable Somerville staple Dosa N Curry boasts an entirely vegetarian menu that includes crispy banana pepper fritters, an array of dosas, and yogurt masala-marinated mushrooms roasted in a tandoor oven. If you want to sample a bunch of different dishes, go for the $14 lunch thali with an appetizer, a handful of curries, rice, salad, dessert, and a choice of naan or dosa. (Next-door sibling Veggie Crust also serves some fun Indo-Chinese and Indian dishes, including paneer tikka masala pizza.)" - Karen Wilber, Eater Staff

Google
Wow!! Incredible food!! Definitely one of the best if not the best Indian food I’ve had in the Greater Boston Area. We got the paneer tikka masala with coconut rice and a cheese dosa to share and everything was absolutely delicious. The paneer tikka masala was so fragrant and flavorful and it was a perfect pairing with everything else we ordered. Dosas were definitely a lot bigger than I expected but it was a pleasant and welcome surprise. 10/10 recommend.

Ordered via DoorDash—kothu parotta was missing. The restaurant claims it was packed, but dasher Musse couldn’t be reached. Was he so hungry he kept it, or is this how he eats daily? Refunds don’t fix missed meals—where’s the accountability and basic customer service?

Google
Decent dosa. Have been here a few times. The sambhar and chutney could have been better. But still an excellent place for South Indian food in Boston.

Google
- Friendly staff, quick service - Amazing food 🥘 authentic Indian taste and they can tweak the dishes to your suggestions - Papdi chaat was delicious

I went for unlimited dosa buffet its worth it but service is delayed a lot so it takes time to reorder and since the buffet us only Tuesday it's over crowded staff are stressed to handle.

Google
The food was very good as compared to other places i had dined in Boston and surrounding area. The pav bhaji was really good in taste. Also the chole bhatura was good. The iverall food was ery good. The service was also ok. I just felt if the quantity of the pav bhaji could have been a little more it would have been perfect.

Google
Dosa n Curry is certainly a “to go” place. I have had takeout and dine-in I could easily have given 5 stars however I am picky. I ordered Masala Chai even before I ordered my dinner. However the chai was served along with my meal. In a perfect service model, the chai would have been served after my dinner or before bringing out my food. I had to rush myself otherwise the chai would have just gotten cold. takeout: ordered Baigan (eggplant) Bharat and Dal (lentil) Makhni. Perfect in taste and the flavors were right on. Dine-in: Peshwari Naan was good but lacked the right amount of nuts. A food cart in Portland, Oregon serves better Peshawari Naan. 8/13: this was my third Dosa n Curry visit in less than 10 days. The have a you can eat dosa buffet on Tuesdays. FOOD: 5 types Dosas were just awesome! The masala inside the dosa was right on. You could taste the distinct flavors of each dosas stuffing. A+++ on the taste of the food. Mysore Masala, Paneer, temple dosa. All great choices. Service: it’s a great idea to leave chutneys on the table. Make it presentable please. It’s perfect to carb load if one plans to run a marathon on Wednesday 😀 I understand the concept of not allowing take away, but my good went to waste as I barely finished half my food. 8/10: Paneer Burji was right on. Flavorful and moist. I requested mild spice and yet the flavors still stood out. The place is an happening restaurant. I would go back and be happy to try everything on their menu. I will go back and try their dosas next week.

Google
They wanted to try more Indian food in Boston, and they really liked this one because it felt more like South Indian food. The vegetable korma and Gobi Manchuria can only be found there. It was great that the whole place was veggie. And the food tasted great. Some stores offer cheaper appetizers, but this one is worth the extra money because it has flavors and dishes that you can't get at other shops.

Yelp
Good food and best indian dosa and chaat. Must visit for every one who loves dosa. Even the service is really good

Yelp
I was speaking to one of the residents in the building I work at about Indian food. Specifically vegetarian Indian food, I told him the Indians got vegetarian cuisine down, hands down no one even comes close. He told me I needed to try this place Dosa n Curry. So I found myself late that day wanting to eat before meeting a buddy for a cigar, and said let me give it a shot. Everything was delicious. Palak paneer my favorite. Sada Dosai Mango Lassi

Swabarna M.

Yelp
Never reviewed? Damn! Has been great with all their orders atleast in the last 2 years. The only place where I get my Rava onion masala dosa. The cauliflower 65(Gobi 65) was crispy and the chutneys(dipping sauces) they served were fresh. The tamarind one needs salt and a bit more zing but hey u can add salt on your own as you please :). A nice place to take care of my dosa cravings when am not in the mood to drive afar.

Yelp
We finally went back - and it was great. We had just returned from Mumbai and needed MORE Indian food, and knew that many of the dishes here were Mumbai style. We had the vegetable platter appetizer, masala dosa, madras cheese dosa, and malai kofta. It was way too much food for 4 people. The veg platter was the weak dish. Some of the things were dried out, some were oddly overspiced (picante). The two dosas were A+ as good as - or perhaps better than we had in Mumbai. I think the malai kofta had too much cream but the others thought it was ok. Why only 4 stars? Their bathroom was TOTALLY GROSS. Ugh! Cmon guys, make the two bathrooms unisex, and on busy nites, close one and clean it, then the other.

Yelp
Be sure to put this Vegetarian Fusion Restaurant on your list of places to visit if you're in the Somerville area. This is a great place to go if you or the people you are dining with have any dietary restrictions because they do a good job of explicitly stating what is and is not vegan plus what can be made vegan upon request. I'd never had Dosa before, but I absolutely loved it! Dosa n Curry had great portion sizes. My friend and I were both fairly hungry, and split the madras cheese dosa. We both agreed that it was absolutely delicious. We went on a Friday afternoon when there weren't many people, so it was quiet and a perfect place to catch up. The service was great and our food came quite quickly. I would highly recommend!

Vivek B.

Yelp
BEST SOUTH INDIAN FOOD - HIGHLY RECOMMEND I tried this place for the first time and really loved the food. I ordered Rava Onion masala Dosa and Madhurai Podi Idli - both the items were super amazing. I actually loved their sambar too. Guess what - i was surprised to learn that thus place is owned by a Punjabi and dosa and ildi are not South Indian dishes at all. If you are in this area and wants to have the best Dosas - this is the place to be. The staff was very pleasant, smiling which is not usually you see these days.

Payal M.

Yelp
We ordered takeout from here comprising onion rava masala dosa, sindhi soya chaap biryani, and veg pakora. The place gets a four star only because of the fantastic biryani. I've never eaten the soya chaap biryani anywhere else in the US and this one was delicious with generous pieces of the chaap! Dosa was okay and the pakoras were oily and soggy. The place is reasonably priced. I've dined in at their sister restaurant veggie crust in Somerville that has good pizzas. Wood like to try some of the other items on the menu as well.

Yelp
Honestly giving a sambar portion like they do is simply embarrassing for them. Like you really ought to leave town with how ridiculous the sambar soup portion like this. Ripping off college students it's really a new low

Susanne C.

Yelp
What an explosion of taste and texture. Beautiful presentation in lovely ambiance. Service was attentive. We will be coming back for more.

Teresa C.

Yelp
They no longer have a buffett so I went with theirThali with Masala Dosa (rice crepe with potato filling). Sides were: eggplant, cauliflower & potato, spinach and paneer, sambhar (spicy lentil soup) and vegetable ball in cream sauce along with fried dough in sugar sauce. Called on menu as Baigan Bhartha, Aloo Gobhi, Palak Paneer, Sambhar, Malai Kofta and Gulab Jaman. All the optins tasted good and it was served quickly.

PRATIMA M.

Yelp
Food was delicious and authentic. Service was good. Staff was courteous and friendly. Ambiance pleasant.

Sagar S.

Yelp
Horrible food!! We ordered multiple items on their menu and were dissatisfied with each and every one of them. The temple special dosa was stuffed with cabbage, barely containing any potato or other assorted vegetables. The onion chilli uttapam was okay-ish at best. The rawa sada dosa was thick and raw, filled with peppercorns. The vegetable noodles were simply bad, tasted like noodles with some vegetables and a lot of ketchup. The Indian coffee was the worst, it felt like the staff did not put any effort into making the coffee. It came out lukewarm at best, with coffee powder bits floating at the surface. The coffee was clearly made in the microwave but was not even heated to the correct temperature. This place used to have good food before, not sure what happened. Never going back there again.

Nikhil K.

Yelp
Been here a couple of time and they have fantastic dosas, pretty good curries, awesome naan, and is an overall good experience. It's in the name, but I would say their dosas are better than their curries, not saying their curries are bad though. Wish I had a few pictures of the dosas I've had but I've eaten them all too fast. Would recommend!!

Rahul R.

Yelp
Hailing from a South Indian household, my standards are unreasonably high for a thali. This one did not disappoint. I was intrigued to see tofu in some of the sides... not authentic by any means but somehow I didn't mind! Was happy to share the experience with my girlfriend, whose first time it was having the cuisine. Taste: 3.5/5 Comfort: 4/5 Variety: 4/5

Peo M.

Yelp
HAIR IN THEIR FOOD. I would give it a 0 not only for the taste but for hygiene as well. Would think twice before ordering. I got a thali. ALL THE FIVE STARS IS A SCAM

Adela B.

Yelp
The food is so delicious! I really thought the dosas were perfectly spiced, not greasy, and yummy. I wish I could say the same for the service. It's quite disorganized. You don't know who is your server, have to ask for the check, ask someone to take your order, we ordered 3 items and the wait person wrote down the order and then forgot the third item. I think the wait staff isn't trained or there's not a proper service system in place. So, go enjoy the food and be patient!

K. B.

Yelp
I love this place! The food is amazingly delicious; so fresh, tasty and bright and the service is always great. I deeply appreciate the musical sound of cheerful diners being able to have relaxed conversations without straining over piped in music. It is a happy place - very special!

Joop V.

Yelp
Dosa n Curry is one of the few places I know of that offer Indian food buffet that includes the scrumptious South Indian food like Dosa as part of the buffet offering. The lunh buffet had quite a decent spread...you can eat all you want...and I ate 2 full plates + 1 masala Dosa and 2 cups of chai (they were all part of the buffet!). I remembered I was so stuffed that I almost threw up from overeating while walking back home! Overall, I would go back again if I ever have huge craving for Dosa again. Probably not a good idea to go there so often as I would probably end up eating way more than I'd need! If you are looking for Indian food buffet esp for Dosa...this is a place to go. Remember to go there early though as they seemed fill up their seats quite quickly and you may have may have to wait...

Ingrid A.

Yelp
Best Indian I've had yet in Boston! Generous portion sizes and a large menu. There is also a separate Sikh menu.

Kerry A.

Yelp
I feel so lucky to have this spot so close to my door!! I lived in southern India for awhile, and I love having dosa and biryani accessible at all times. Delicious, authentic, spicy (if you want it) and just overall great. Highly recommended.

Maria M.

Yelp
So this place is one of the nice south Asian places. Their chai is good. Ive always tried their dosas, my suggestion would be a bit more seasoning and salt in their dosa fillings and chutneys. Their Papri chaat is one of the best. Ambiance and service is nice too. Finding parking has always been easy. Its right next to union square.

Raunak D.

Yelp
Banger food. Loved the channa bhatura, generous portions, nice enough ambience for what you're paying. Feels like authentic Indian khanna. Loved it.

Ashley M.

Yelp
Food was tasty and two gentleman waiters were professional and efficient. The rude woman who rudely and callously asked if I wanted the check, without even making eye contact or saying thank you, deserves zero stars and is the reason why this is not a 5 star review.

Tanu J.

Yelp
so good! ordered the paneer butter masala and the chole with roti, along with some ghee dosa. every single item was delicious. in order of preference: dosa, paneer, then chola, but once again, everything was great. nothing was too greasy, but everything was flavorful. the only little thing was that in the paneer dish, would have liked a bit more paneer. other than that, this place is great and 10/10 recommend!

Monica V.

Yelp
Bottomless dosas on Tuesdays-- hellll ya. For said bottomless dosas, the service does slowly slow down as the restaurant fills up. Would recommend to arrive early. These dosas are amazing. We were able to try each one through this system LOL. Here is our best guess at their strategy: 1. Friendly staff takes your order and promptly brings your dosas. Key: order many on this round. WE messed up and didn't. Rookie mistake 2. Next round: Takes longer for your order 3. Servers stop making eye contact with you 4. Oh no, you're starting to get full as you wait 5. Fuck. You're full. They start paying attention again. But you're full so you only order 1 dosa 6. You get a second wind but they're slow again 7. You give up and go home. Pay of course

Norma L.

Yelp
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. We were served stale food, due to which a friend had to be rushed to the ER the next morning and another friend was vomiting. They ate medu vada and paper masala dosa. If you do go in (which will be an unfortunate thing), please at least make sure you do not consume either of these two and also send anything back if you think it not fresh and DO NOT CONSUME IT! The service was also bad, we weren't even half way through our dinner and the server placed the check on our table and in a minute asked if we were ready to pay, not something I am appreciative of. After speaking to the owner, she said that she checked the cameras and that the check was only handed out to us 25 minutes after we were done eating, however, in reality, it was given to us while we hadn't even finished our first course. Upon scrolling past some of the reviews, I found a couple of reviews mentioning the stale food and bad service from a week ago, a month ago, and even a year ago, so this is an ongoing problem. DO NOT VISIT UNLESS YOU'RE UP FOR AN UPSET STOMACH.

Tenzin T.

Yelp
Nice friendly staff. The paper dosa is my favorite and it's very long, enough for two. It doesn't come with potatoes in it like the other dosas. The idli's was my least favorite which is basically rice cakes. It was missing something and tasted very bland as most idli's are but the taste was off for this location. I ordered 5 plates of samosas to go and it was delicious just wish the portion was more for the price.

Rick C.

Yelp
Visited for the first time on a Tuesday and the food was amazing. The paper masala dosa really hit the spot Paneer Tikka Masala was also one of our favorites. If you go on a Tuesday make sure you go early; there's usually a long line waiting to be seated. I'd definitely be back.

Dhara P.

Yelp
We were in Boston for long weekend and got tired of eating bread and pizzas! I found this local Indian VEG restaurant with reasonable prices and decided to make the visit. The area is pretty far from Boston sightseeing areas but parking and area was still safe to visit. Due to covid, the restaurant wasn't busy at all but plenty staff was available to help and serve food. The food tasted amazing and was definitely place to stop by if you want to authentic Indian food. Also, if you are new to Indian food, they'll definitely catered to your taste buds! If I'm ever in Boston again, I'll am going back for sure!

Aasawari N.

Yelp
I am SO HERE for this place. I didn't even know it existed until it showed up one day as a "near me" when passing through. "Onion rava" was a tad on the spicy side but pretty delicious. The rasam that it came with was fantastic. Much better than the other dosa options in the area. Fixed price menu rates could be improved but maybe the buffet would be better at meeting the criteria for value.

Mutthu S.

Yelp
The food is okay. The one star is not about the food. While chatting with the server, we were informed that the manager keeps all of their tips. I hope the manager reads this and realizes what a POS they are. Hope this helps.

Cassandra B.

Yelp
I've been here for the weekday lunch buffet and have ordered from the regular menu for dinner. The lunch buffet is probably half vegan, half vegetarian options. For better vegan options, order from the menu (which has clearly marked vegan labels). I ordered the Aloo Mutter ($11.95) and my better half got the Aloo Gobi. Both were great! We ordered ours 'mild' but there wasn't really any heat in the dishes. Next time we're going with 'medium'! All curries are served with a plate of rice to share, which was more than enough for 3 people. Make sure to order the vegetable samosas ($3.95) - they're huge and so good! A lot of reviews here complain about service, but we had no major problems. It took a little while to get our check but we weren't in a rush and it was busy so no harm, no foul. YELP'S 2018 REVIEW CHALLENGE: #39

Shannon B.

Yelp
I visited Dosa n Curry with a friend who is from South India, so her expectations were pretty high. She and I were both very pleased with our meals here. We ordered the masala dosai, dahl makhani, and garlic naan. Our favorite was definitely the masala dosai. It was my first time trying dosai, and my friend was so happy that the food was as good as she hoped. We finished off our meal with some deliciously refreshing mango juice on a hot summer day. The atmosphere of the restaurant was also very nice, with beautiful wall decorations and bright colors. I would recommend this spot to anyone who wants to have some delicious, authentic Indian food!

Mike C.

Yelp
I would say pretty average food. For a South Indian restaurant the least I would expect is the vadas to be hard and not fluffy. Also the dosa and naan that was brought with the respective thalis were pretty cold. Not worth driving an hour for this kind of food. The only good thing was the chikoo (sapota) milkshake.

Deepti P.

Yelp
We drove to this place after our show from boston commons. The place was an easy find and parking was available on the streets. The reviews are great on yelp but I can't give more than 2 stars. We came in, one person greeted us and said sit on any available tables. We sat on the table, but a girl came and said- you are two- sit on this table and not this one. We were fine switching the tables but she was really rude and just had some weird expressions on her face. We ordered Meru vada (appetizer) - comes with chutney and sambhar and cheeku shake. The appetizer(sambhar) was not even room temp warm. I asked her to heat- and she microwaved and gave it to us after 5-6 min wait. For the main course, we ordered malai kofta, garlic naan and mysore masala dosa. The chutney that came with dosa was BLAND. No taste- salt and pepper. The only great thing that forced me to give 2 stars is the cheeku shake!! It was great in taste. This was my first and last for this restaurant.. Date visited- Sunday: 19/11/2018 time: 4:15 PM

Alan S.

Yelp
I'm over my anger about the 2 hour wait time for delivery (but be warned if you order take-out). I'll concede this is probably the best bet for a desi meal on the left bank of the Charles. Certainly better than Punjabi Dhaba (red sauce covered onions are not an achar substitute!) On the weekends go for the South Indian classics - curd rice, made-to-order dosas, idli/vada, and sambar/coconut chutney. As mentioned in my prior review, the Indo-Chinese is somewhat lacking. Paneer dishes and chai are also nice.

Abbie B.

Yelp
Sadly, it was not anything close to authentic Indian food. Ordered puri bhaji and got bhaturas instead of the puris and a tasteless bhaji. My friends order Mysore masala dosa and spring dosa which has zero differences, Except one was cut and other was not. The indo Chinese noodles were made in ketchup and vinegar and again was bad like the dosas and puri bhaji. This place needs new chef, who understands indian food and does not ruin it. Terrible food, the only good thing here was the staff that was polite. Don't recommend.

Durvank Y.

Yelp
Fantastic fantastic place! We went here on Tuesday and this was a great place to have dinner at! There was UNLIMITED DOSA TUESDAY going on when we visited! And the dosas were truly delicious! The music was also good and the place was not crowded despite the Tuesday offer!

Anish K.

Yelp
We were hungry, still could not find the food good or meet the expectations. We ordered the samosa chaat as appetizers, which was ok. Would have liked a bit more of spice or chutney to it. For the main course we had the kuttu paratha and the mysore masala dosa. Both were a disappointment. The oil used tasted old and the kuttu paratha was bland, with very little spice. The filter coffee was good, the mango lassi not so much. Our server was nice and friendly though. Overall, the place was pricier than usual indian restaurants and the food mediocre.

Jon T.

Yelp
Though I've been temporarily located in Union Square for nearly a year, I had somehow not taken it upon myself to visit Dosa n Curry. How can that be?! An all vegetarian and vegan Indian restaurant (next to and owned by the same people as the all vegetarian and vegan pizza place next door) is certainly up my alley. So I finally checked it out recently and was super impressed. The flavors and composition of the foods was ultimately what really wowed me. My partner and I got a mix of both south and north Indian style options. For south, we got some idlii, vada, and a dosa. The dipping sauces for both the appetizers were truly excellent. The dosa was HUGE (reminds me of the kind of Indian food I've had internationally) and also one of the better ones I've had. For north, we got veggie pakora and aloo gobi. The veggie pakora was about what I expected (in a good way), but the taste of the aloo gobi was so much more nuanced than any I've had at other restaurants. It can so easily be made overly oily but not at Dosa n Curry. Quite shockingly, when we got our check, the whole thing came up under $40 (we also got two sparkling waters.) What a great deal for such a delicious food! Definitely looking forward to coming back soon.

Pals S.

Yelp
Very disappointed. Ambience: casual, fair. Parking: metered parking within walking distance. Bathrooms: clean Food choice range on the menu: Good Taste: Average. We were served raw uttapam and brought a completely wrong order. Won't go again. There are many more better options in this part of Boston.

Nhung N.

Yelp
It's unfair to rate an Indian buffet when: 1. Your first choice for Indian restaurant In Somerville was closed due to the owner going on vacation and had to quickly Yelp up option B. 2. You didn't realize that the menu was all vegetarian. 3. You had know idea what you were eating despite description at the buffet counter and you had to google up lassi when simply ordering from the drink menu. All that being said, just about everything was delicious. My favorite was the vegetarian doughnut. I am going to go bite into a juicy hamburger now.

Aditi J.

Yelp
I took my family that was visiting from India and they were so happy and so content with their meal -- they literally asked to come here a second time during their visit! This place serves authentic South Indian food, and excellent curries. We ordered a variety of dosas -- the rava onion is my favorite! The regular sized dosas (not unlimited dosa night ones) are a very good portion, and make for a good meal. I really enjoyed the Indo-Chinese options as well. The chhole bhatura (channa masala) was excellent as well. What I appreciate most is that this place is very allergy friendly. My partner cannot eat any dairy and any nuts. Not only is the staff here super knowledgeable about what ingredients are in each of the menu items, they take special care to ensure there's minimal cross contamination. I'm personally not the biggest fan of the unlimited dosa night. It's great if you want to try most of their dosas, but since the portion sizes are small (the dosas you get unlimited as much smaller), I find that I don't enjoy this very much. I really love this place. I recently moved to another city and I miss this place all the time.

V M.

Yelp
Did not meet expectations. Not good and not fresh. Poor service. Food quality was very poor.

Sridhar D.

Yelp
Came here twice for dinner during my trip to Boston. The food was amazing and authentic. Poondu Kuzhambhu was kick ass and I had it on both my trips. For the uninitiated, this is a spicy-tangy-garlicky gravy best had with rice and a side of appalam. I was craving for some authentic South Indian food after a week long diet of pasta and pizza and salad. The waiters looked like college kids. They were pleasant and friendly. If I have one complaint it is that their portion sizes are massive. I ordered their side of potato sabji which was more like a mound. To their credit, they tried to talk me out of ordering it as it was going to be too much quantity for 1 person but I remained skeptical thinking " how big can the side be, really!". If I lived here that wouldn't b a problem, of course, and I'll take it to go. All in all excellent food, at least the South Indian variety that I got to try.

Sumanth M.

Yelp
This place charges a fine of $5 for the food wasted. Their food is so bad that it is quite challenging to finish what's on your plate. So, good strategy! Channa masala- Peas were raw Sambar - stale Pav- hard as bricks Samosa- I suspect these were the "ready-to-eat" types bought from a supermarket Dessert- We reached the place at 2:25 pm. Their buffet ends at 3:30 pm. They did not even inform us that they ran out of dessert. Coconut chutney- They ran out of this as well and failed to inform us Dosa- Just so sad There were seven of us. None of us are returning to this place.

Sandipan S.

Yelp
When you got a lot on your plate you have to share. That is what their paper masala dosa (Indian crepe) promises. It is one of it's kind, with a size as tall as a 4 year kid, it comes beautifully laid on two plates. As for the dosa the taste is perfect and worth the price! However other items on their menu aren't very promising. There is salt missing on a few items. The Gobi Manchurian could be a little crispier. That being said if you're looking to taste any Indian spice at all this place will do fine. But if you're looking for a mouthful of flavors this isn't your spot. Also this is a vegetarian place, nothing wrong with that. So if you're only looking for meat I would move along.

Bhargav M.

Yelp
It is a place with Dosa on its name and the Dosa was very poor. The service was bad. I am not sure about unlimited Dosa but generally I feel al a carte is better than unlimited and so I dont think I will go there again.

Vinay F.

Yelp
Best dosa I've eaten outside of India. + Get the Paper masala Dosa + Pav Bhaji is good here too Service and the interiors of the place are OK at best, but the food more than makes up for it. Parking (street) is pretty easy to find.

Ana S.

Yelp
Dosa n Curry is my favorite South Indian restaurant in the Boston area. Jyoti is one of the owners and is very kind and accommodating to vegans. The restaurant has mostly vegan food. I normally go there for dosa night or the weekend lunch buffet. My favorite dishes are the idlis, dosas, vadas, coconut chutney, vegetable rice, aloo poori and sambhar. They have so much delicious and healthy food! Won't you try it?
