Google
Found this place right by our hotel for breakfast and they are known for their stuffed malasadas, which are a popular doughnut in Hawaii. They also had stuffed mochi doughnuts, so you know we had to try both! Went with ube and taro for flavors. Worth the wait (waited at least 30 minutes, noticed some people called ahead of time to order and pick-up).

Google
I struggled for a second before finding the place because it's inside a food court without any signs outside (it's also the only place open in that food court). The place was not busy when I went. I wanted to order the filled malasadas because I drove 30min just for that, but they told me the dough was still rising then it also needs time to cook so I would have to wait about 30min for it to be ready. But they suggested I get the Filled Mochi Donuts instead in just 5min, which is basically the same thing but made with another dough. So I said okay, and ordered 2 of them (Taiwanese brown sugar and Belgium chocolate). I tried the chocolate one immediately, it was good. I don't think I could eat 2 of those as they are sooo very rich so I put the other one in the fridge. Not sure what that would taste like when I reheat it.

Malasadas are Portuguese desserts and popularized by establishments such as Leonard's on the Hawaiian Islands. So as you may guess, there are probably lots of comparisons to the Hawaiian malasadas. My initial reaction is predictably similar to many others, "Malasadas on the mainland!?! Yes please!" But I think that's a rather dangerous mindset. The malasadas here are undoubtedly amazing, but I don't know if it's fair to compare them to the ones you'll find in Hawaii. They're two different epicurean experiences. The original (unfilled) malasadas are fluffy and have delicate flavors, filled malasadas have the perfect ratio of filling to malasada, my personal favorite is the mochi filled, it's the perfect balance of doughy goodness and mochi texture that is paired excellently with the filling. All malasadas are made to order so it does take some time, but be patient. It's a little taste of sugary heaven.

This was my first stop ISO those fresh cooked Passion Bakery, Kauai, filled malasadas. These came pretty close, so I wasn’t disappointed. Would I come again? Oh yes; but, let me see what else San Diego has to offer. Any chance they could do a haupia filling?

Google
Soft opening.. I understand employees are learning but thumbs up for the manager for giving me a refund but I was a little disappointed in my experience today when I asked for 1 single scoop in a cup and a split single in a different cup. The cashier did admit that he wasn’t sure if they were doing split singles and he took the initiative to go to the back to ask the manager and the manager said yes they were. $5 for a single scoop and .75 cents for a split single. I was charged $13 which entailed a single scoop and a double scoop I never asked for. I was suppose to be charged $10.75 but $13 instead. See pics below. Let alone the cashier didn’t know the pricing of the split single. Good thing I asked for the receipt and I told the cashier he charged me the wrong way he proceeds to show me his register with the buttons and said “I’m sorry there was no way for me to charge you for a split single for the 2 flavors you want so I had to charge you for a double scoop. Let alone the cashier even admitted to me he didn’t know how to scoop the ice cream to begin with. He didn’t even ask the manager for help to scoop the ice cream for me. It was unprofessional that the cashier tried to blame me/the register for the way he charged me so I asked him to get the manager to fix it. The cashier even showed me the register and was showing me the buttons that he had to charge me? Like I’m sorry I’m not suppose to know how your register works? You would think soft opening someone would know how to scoop ice cream and yet tells the customer he doesn’t know how to properly scoop? The 3 stars is for the manager coming out to fix the problem and for the cashier to give me samples of the ice cream. I give this place a couple more months to give it a 2nd try because the ice cream was good but beware of being overcharged and not getting your correct portion because the cashiers could possibly not know how to scoop ice cream or use the register to properly charge you.

Google
Really good cream filled malasadas! We ordered vanilla, Ube,taro, and matcha. The taro and matcha were our favorites.

Google
I wanted to try something new for a late night treat and I ordered from here on door dash to try it out! I got so many different donuts but when it was delivered, there was a sweet note on my box and extra treats! Really awesome first experience & very yummy! :) thank you

Google
Stopped by after dinner and managed to get fresh mochi donuts. Had the Taro and The Cereal Cake ones. Delicious!

Maya K.

Yelp
I got the matcha filled malasada- super fluffy and had lots of matcha filling! I really enjoyed it! It's located inside a small food hall and it's super cute and spacious inside. The employee helping us was super nice and they were super fast with our order

Katherine K.

Yelp
My coworkers and I came here as it's close by and we got the Grab & Go Dozen which has 12 assorted mochi donuts. Wish we could have picked our own flavors, but they chose for us. I got to try a few of them and they were good, just on the sweeter side. I really liked the strawberry, oreo and the milk & cereal. Some of them, like the taro, blueberry and matcha, I didn't like. So it's a hit or miss on which flavors to get. Pretty expensive: $30 for 12 donuts. Not the type of place you can come to very often. I would love to try their ice cream some time as well. It's not my favorite mochi donut place, but I've had worse. I'd give it a 3.5, but I'm rounding up to 4 stars.

Yelp
I DOUGH CARE (5 stars) Malasada, Get in my skinny fat belly! This spot is located in the Mercato Food Court. Towards the back near and shares space with FikaFika. Due to lack of employees, you order through a self service machine and they will make it in the back and call your name when ready. MANGO MILKSHAKE FILLED MALASADA ($3.25) - Hot and fresh malasada filled with mango custard. What's that new lingo these young kids use these days... "SLAPS". This hella SLAPS!!! I loved everything about this one. Yes, I've been to Hawaii countless times and had countless Malasadas. But I like THIS malasada. It was perfect. The dough was warm, soft like a pillow, dough was good and nice texture, the one I had was NOT oily. The sugar costing wasn't too much or too little. And the mango custard was SO good. You been wanted, if squirts out the hole (no pun Intended). HIGHLY RECOMMEND BELGIAN CHOCOLATE FILLED MALASADA ($3.25) - delicious but average chocolate filling. If you are craving something chocolate then this is for you. Same description as above but I like the Mango Milkshake filling better. RECOMMEND oh, I'll mosdef be back. JABA APPROVED. Until the next bite...

Yelp
Came here to get a quick pick me up coffee during the work day. I got the Thai Tea coffee and it was so good! There's only one self-ordering tablet which shouldn't have been a problem because it wasn't packed. We just ran into an issue because two people ordering in front of us were taking a very long time, so I wish an employee would have offered to take our order while the group ahead of us was spending an awful amount of time at the tablet. It was just a little frustrating because it seemed like the employees weren't too occupied. I would definitely come here again though! It was just dumb luck of a bad timing issue.

Yelp
These are the best malasadas I have had on the mainland. The shop is not well marked. It is in the corner of the food court. There is amble parking. I had the traditional rolled in sugar and cinnamon and one filled with brown sugar sauce? The filling was too liquid. I poured it out and ate the rest. The unfilled with sugar and cinnamon was very good. They are prepared to order and served hot.

Victoria B.

Yelp
I love Mochi doughnuts, but these are nothing special unfortunately. Taro didn't have much flavor. As far as service goes, you order through a kiosk -- not sure how they didn't get my order, but I waited a good 20min for four doughnuts because they missed mine, so I had to ask where my order was.

Jhenny B.

Yelp
I love that they're trying to make a food hall. Great idea. I hope it thrives. The location will attract a lot of employees that work in the area. After they open more restaurants. Onto the malasadas, they were ok. Not too much flavor. I would have rather just got them without filling. This is my second time trying it, first time I wasn't impressed. They're ok. Expensive for the size and price. Malasadas from Hawaii are a lot bigger, tastier and cheaper. The mochi donut was good. My baby liked it. Other than that, it's not a must have dessert for me. But try it for yourself. You might really enjoy them.

Yelp
I stopped by the other day with a friend. It's a little confusing to find if you don't realize it's in a food hall. Because we went on a weekday, plenty of parking and seating. While I ordered a drink, it wasn't particularly memorable to me. It does seem they don't have consistent cup caps as I got one for strawless coffee drinking and my friend got the one for straws. The malasada was goodddd. They're made to order so it was nice and warm. The filling was not overly sweet. Hopefully I'll have the chance to stop by again next time I'm in the area again.

Yelp
Along with Fika Fika, I was so excited to hear Dot & Dough opening up in San Diego!! I've had their cookies once, but never fresh as it was delivered by a friend that came from OC. Here I have tons of chances to stop by and grab some treats! - PARKING - Shares a lot with other businesses, but there's tons of space! - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - Dot & Dough is located within the Mercato hub of Sorrento Valley, and shares a storefront with Fika Fika right at the front of the entrance! The staff here didn't seem too enthused to be there, not much energy and wasn't the most friendliest interaction! However, after we ordered, the Malasada came out fairly quick even though it says to give them 20 minutes of prep time! - FOOD - Filled Mochi Malasada ($3.35): We got the Taiwanese Brown Sugar filling, and WOW this is an amazing dessert/treat!!! The sugar coated fried dough exterior paired with the chewy mochi layer, and then the creamy filling inside - this combination is so decadent but SO SO good!!! I'm tempted to try every single one of the flavors on the menu! - OVERALL - Grab a few doughnuts for yourself, and some to share with friends - they'll love you for it!

Yelp
Just heard about Dot & Dough through some random Instagram reel. It's situated in a hidden, low-key food hall in Sorrento Valley. The malasadas were freshly made and came out hot and the flavors were unique (I'm a sucker for all things ube). Got a dozen and brought it back to visiting family, but not before I gobbled a couple malasadas alone in the car. There's still sticky cream filling coating my steering wheel. I'll say, service is a bit slow and unfriendly, the girl out front had an "I don't want to be here" demeanor. How can you be grumpy when you're surrounded by donuts and ice cream all day? The cafeteria area is still sparse but I'm looking forward to seeing what else they'll have to offer in the future.

Yelp
Great dessert spot in a burgeoning part of Mira Mesa/Sorrento Valley, especially after a workout. They serve mochi doughnuts and malasadas (also partnered with an ice cream company). They also serve boba, but not specializing in that and seeing a nearly full one in the trash deterred is from trying. The blueberry doughnut was pretty good and better than other mochi doughnut places. But, what won us is the malasadas (tried the ube filled one) - they are made to order so hot and fresh and oh so delicious. Would return for a dozen malasadas! Amazing service! Came five minutes to closing (they close by 5p btw) and was still welcomed and served. Friendly staff and very helpful :) Located in a food hall, there was plenty of seating. The decoration was pleasant. Clean area.

Yelp
I believe Dot & Dough was the first vendor to open for business back in February at the new Sorrento Valley food hall (Mercato). There was plenty of space both in the parking lot and inside where the common dining area was set up. Dot & Dough shares the same stall with Fika Fika Creamery. Malasadas and mochi donuts were the food offerings while coffee, boba tea, and smoothies were the drink choices. I visited on a weekday afternoon when I was the only customer. The lady who staffed the service counter allowed me to sample some of the ice cream flavors that were on display. I decided to stick with just malasadas as I was getting ready for a trip to Hawaii so I wanted to try a local product for comparison. Two classic flavors ($2.50 each) and six filled varieties ($3.60 each) were available. The menu stated to allow 20+ minutes of preparation time as the fried dough was made to order. My choices were the Classic Sugar, Matcha, and Ube flavors. It took about 10 minutes for the three items to be readied and placed inside a take-out box. After snapping a photo, I took a bite of the sugar version. The dough was soft and warm. The quality was good, just not as light and puffy as what some of the island bakeries serve. Still, for San Diego, I thought the malasadas were solid and deserved a four star rating.

Nancy D.

Yelp
It's in a food court, but it's easy to spot! Lots of tables in the space and really good for groups! We went with our friend and their family and easily found a spot to sit together. We tried their ice creams (Strawberry, Ube and Mango! Both good flavors!), Mochi donuts )my favorite was the fruity pebbles one), and there Ube filled malasadas. Everyone left with happy bellies! The only thing was that the service was a bit slow... I think they maybe didn't have enough people?

Kimmy C.

Yelp
I don't know if I met the owner but whoever the lady was that helped me place my order was so kind and welcoming. We ordered: 3 regular malasada: Vanilla, chocolate, matcha. 3 mochi filled: ube, taro, and machiato. They were made fresh and (soft moan).. warm fried deliciousness covered in sugar. The filling wasn't too sweet and oozed out generously when you bit in. My hubbie's fav was the mochi filled machiato. It's definitely a deep coffee flavor that paired nicely with the chewy fried mochi. I personally liked the regular dough with matcha. The dough was light and airy, paired well with the sugar and light matcha flavor. Next time, i need to come and combine the joy of fika fika ice cream with hot malasada. The plain donuts I imagine are amazing esp when hot and warm. Definitely go check them out. It's at the bottom of Qualcomm hill in the Mc Donald plaza in the far elbow of the plaza. They redid the area and looks like the stage is being set for more businesses to join. Can't wait to see what else will be added.. I will be back for my malasada fill!!

Yelp
Highly recommend pre-ordering for an early time. I had preordered on a Friday night (when they were closed) for Sat morning pickup at 1030. When my husband arrived, he said the order was just about ready so he got them fresh out of the fryer. He said it was busy when he picked up. So because it's made to order, it can take about 30 mins to prepare (depending on how many others are ordering or waiting at the same time) We ordered 3 sugar, 3 cinnamon sugar, 1 chocolate filled, 1 vanilla filled, 1 ube filled, and 1 caramel filled. Our total was almost $27. Luckily we live nearby so the malasadas were still super fresh and hot. My kids dove into the regular malasadas and they were delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed them very much. As for the filled... I did like the ube filled. There was just enough of the filling where it wasn't overbearing. Although I consider myself a hard core chocolate lover, the chocolate one was super heavy and dense. Oddly it was smaller than the others in size and just picking it up, it weighed a lot more!!! It honestly tasted like it was filled with pudding. I was so full after having 1/2 of it (other half eaten by my husband). The vanilla and caramel had just the right amount of filling in them and they were also OK. For us, we loved the non filled malasadas. I wouldn't order the filled ones again. Just overbearing. Pricy but a good sweet treat for a special occasion. Located in Sorrento Valley off the 805 freeway and where McDs is at. It's inside the food court but ample free parking in the lot that shared businesses. Recommend visiting on the weekend or reserving and picking up on the weekend since there are a lot nearby corporate businesses in the area and parking may be an issue.

Eric L.

Yelp
All these mochi donuts were amazing and delicious. I especially love the ube and matcha flavor donuts. It taste good if it's warm up! This is a helpful tip. The service was amazing. Parking lot is huge and easy to find parking.

Angela W.

Yelp
Oh my gad these were good. I love cream filled donuts so when I saw Dot & Dough had opened AND that I could get them on DoorDash it was a no brainer. Instantly ordered 5 cream filled - vanilla, ube, taro, matcha, chocolate. Didn't get the mochi dough this time but definitely going to try that next. These were perfectly light and crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, and full of cream evenly distributed (except for one). The fillings were not too sweet but delightfully flavored. I loved them all. I don't know what the experience is like in person since they are made to order so there's a wait, but ordering them, going about my business, and then having them show up still warm at my door was a damn delight. My only complaint is that now this is going to be very dangerous for me.....

Tammie W.

Yelp
I won't be too critical since I think they're working some kinks out and are fairly new. The hubby and I went on a Saturday morning, around 9am and the guy working the register was super friendly and welcoming. We ordered 4 total (a mochi donut, 2 filled malasadas, 1 regular malasada). We've had many a malasada on our trips back to Hawaii so I'll give Dot & Dough props for having a good dough recipe. The donuts were warm, thick, stuffed full of filling and were delicious. My issue is their ordering system and the inability to churn out orders in under 35 minutes. Data from receipts should show how many people to prepare for each day and to have things close to ready when someone orders. Instead, they appear to be making everything to order, allowing them to cool, filling the malasadas, then calling names out. If you don't come right away, your order sits there until they call you 4-5 minutes later. Their product is great but the ordering system and having things close to ready would create repeat customers. I don't know if I'd return, just because the reward after 35-minutes seemed silly in the end. I may give them another try if wait times improve in 6-9 months. Until then, I'll head down to Chula for malasadas.

Dung N.

Yelp
I love that Dot & Dough is now in San Diego at the Mercato Food Hall in Sorrento Valley! Their malasadas are made to order, but they also have mochi donuts, smoothies, boba drinks, etc. I got some plain and filled malasada donuts, a variety of mochi donuts, and a brown sugar milk with boba. I loved the texture of the malasadas- so delicious! The filling oozes out, so be careful! The mochi donuts were pretty and chewy- my favorite was the Oreo chocolate one.The boba drink was pretty refreshing as well. I can't wait to get some more sweets soon!

Tammy N.

Yelp
So glad Dot & Dough is now in SD! They are located in the new Mercato Food Hall in Sorrento Valley. They are one of the first businesses to open so it may look a little empty when you come here, but more spots should open soon! I got a box of the Malasadas and Mochi Donuts. They have so many flavors and options. Everything is made fresh so there is a bit of a wait but SO worth it! The dough is so fluffy and crispy on the outside. They also come in such cute boxes so it would be great as a little gift. They also have tons of drink and boba options. I went with the Thai coffee and it was perfect. Dot and Dough is also connected to Fika Fika creamery where they have so many delicious ice cream options. Highly recommend checking this spot out for some Malasadas and Mochi Donuts!

Julie B.

Yelp
Finally Dot & Dough in San Diego! It's located in the McDonalds plaza in the newly remodeled building which will be housing a few other vendors. They're currently the only one open in the mercato! I got the Ube, Taro and Matcha filled malasadas for $2.95ea. (See photo for menu and pricing) They all tasted SO GOOD ! I especially love how it's not overly sweet! It took about 10mins to receive our order. They also have Mochi donuts with a wide variety of flavors!! Coffee and boba as well! Definitely going to try some on my next visit. The owner was extremely kind! Definitely will be a successful business in San Diego!

Fiona N.

Yelp
The location was a little hard to find. It's actually located in the building across from McDonald's. There's no sign of "dot and dough" anywhere as it was located inside the food court. I got 2 malasada, and 2 mochi donuts. All were delicious! I'm particularly addicted to the filling of the malasada. It wasn't super sweet and had a nice and subtle vanilla flavor. It was raining cats and dogs when I was there so there weren't too many orders ahead of me. It took like 5 minutes to get my made to order malasada. The filled mochi donuts weren't ready at the time, so I might go back for them.

Claire D.

Yelp
Awesome new place in the still not fully opened food court off Scranton. It's wearing a lot of hats, offering mochinuts, malasadas, ice cream, coffees, teas and boba. I tried the jasmine sea salt foam boba and it was very good! The boba was nice and soft without being mushy, and the drink was refreshing with crushed ice and the salted foam is delightful. I also got an Ube filled malasada, a vanilla malasada, an Oreo mochinut and a cinnamon sugar mochinut. I didn't eat them til hours later and microwaved the malasadas as the nice lady who helped me recommended, and they were sooooo good! They were super soft and tender with wonderful flavor (the donut part) and the fillings were rich and they were generously filled. The ube was my favorite but vanilla was good too. I want to try more now. The malasada was smaller than others I've had but they ended up being a great size with all the richness of the filling. The mochinuts were pretty good but not as chewy as the ones at Mochinut. All my order came to a bit over $18-very reasonable prices! I will be back for more drinks and malasadas as this place is dangerously close to my work. Love it!

Jennifer A.

Yelp
Yaaaass I feel like I am in Hawaii yaaas to stuffed malasadas man with the sugar around the freshly fried malasadas which is a Portuguese donut and or cinnamon filled with matcha, Ube, chocolate, or even vanilla cream, come to Sorrento valley In the Mercato food hall, love the boba drinks sand cold brews Too with sea salt cream cone check it out and see the friendly staff

Alanna C.

Yelp
Came here for an after lunch treat on a Sat afternoon since we were at Ike's already. Plenty of parking since it was the weekend and seemed like this place was the half the reason for all the cars. This plaza gets a bit busy on the weekdays during lunch since there are mainly businesses around the area. When we got in line there were 4 parties of people ahead of us. It took us around 10 min to get to the cashier. I told the cashier I wanted 6 mochi donuts but he rang us up for 5. When we got the donuts around 10 minutes later there were 5. We tried the taro, matcha, double chocolate, and original. The taro was good, not too sweet and the mochi donut it's was a good consistency - could be a bit chewier since it is supposed to be a mochi donut not just a donut. We also got the hokkaido milk tea ice cream from the flika flika ice cream counter next with in the same window. The ice cream could use more tea flavor. They also need stronger spoons or control the temperature of the ice cream better since my spoon snapped in half when I went to take the first bite. Didnt get to try the malasadas this time since they said there would be an hour wait. For ordering malasadas, I would order online for pick up since you could be waiting a lot longer than the 20-25 minutes they state on their menu (made to order). I hope in the coming months they figure out how to balance making mochi donuts and malasadas fresh but also slightly ahead of time so the customer experience is improved.

Ryan S.

Yelp
Okay. These are the BEST Malasadas and Mochi donuts in San Diego! Reminds me of Hawaii. Yum! Malasadas airy, light, crispy outside and fairly big. Not oily. Nicely rolled in sugar. Ube and Matcha filled Malasadas have great flavor. And you get a lot of filling...grab your napkin. We also got the Strawberry Pocky Mochi donut. Mind blowing how it smells and tastes exactly like Strawberry Pocky Sticks. Oh so good. Latte is good too. Definitely a must when your eating all these sweet treats. Ordered on Toast app and it was ready when we got there. Nice and warm. App notifies you when your Order is ready to be picked up. Definitely coming back. Got to try their gelato next time.

Melissa C.

Yelp
I went a bit overboard and ordered everything! Haha! The malasadas are made to order, so it was hot and fresh. The fillings is good, not overly sweet. Note that there's a 20+ minute wait for them. The mochi donuts were perfectly chewy, and the different flavors were all yummy! I didn't catch the name of the employee working, but he was so patient while I placed my orders. Everyone I interacted with yesterday was nice and friendly. I'll be back to try the other mochi donut flavors and ice cream. Dot & Dough is located inside the Mercato, so you won't see it from the outside, driving by.

Arleen A.

Yelp
I dropped by before work one morning because my coworkers said they'd never tried mochi donuts before! I was thrilled to learn that there was a mochi doughnut shop in Sorrento Valley. I strolled into the mercato food hall after parking in front of Chase. I placed an order for a dozen doughnuts and masaladas. My colleagues raved about the Thai tea coffee and latte I ordered for them. I liked their made-to-order mochi donuts. The texture is soft and chewy, unlike traditional American doughnuts. Be cautious because they are highly addictive. Dot&Dough is a 10/10 recommendation for your workplace.

Joe Q.

Yelp
If you don't know what a malasada is, it's a Portuguese fried donut that can be filled with a variety of creams and made famous by Leonard's in Hawaii. Coincidentally, we've just got back from Hawaii and this place just opened up nearby. Craving malasadas, we just had to visit. To be thorough, they also sell mochi donuts and integrated with Fika Fika creamery that sells ice cream. Here specifically for the malasadas, they sell them without fillings with sugar and cinnamon. The fillings are a plenty including vanilla, Bavarian chocolate, ube, taro, matcha and caramel macchiato. Malasadas are made to order and they were fresh, crispy on the outside with a warm and chewy inside. One of many spots about to open in the new Mercato, it's going to be a popular dessert location as the renovations finish and new eateries arrive. Luckily for me, I work close by.

Noelle E.

Yelp
They're located in lower floor of the Mercato of Sorrento! When I went this past weekend, they were the only store open... Aesthetically modernized concept of an ambiance. Plenty of room to enjoy your first round of food. Staff are very helpful! And the malasadas, is the closest I've ever come to find that sorta-kinda almost resembles Leonard's (iykyk) Love their boba drinks too, despite it having a small selection to choose from. Please read fine prints!!! It takes 20 minutes to make any of the malasadas, just as they should be like it was in Leonard's. So please have some patience and don't come starving.

Glenn M.

Yelp
Wow. By happenstance I was looking for malasadas and mochi and Dot & Dough appeared in my yelp search. Bigger bonus is it's off the 805 and away from the hustle and bustle of Convoy (where parking can be a pain). Walked in Saturday morning and was greeted with an ultra modern store front along with an easy to read menu. I told the very nice person who helped me that I was only there for a 'few' things but ended getting 6 mochi donuts, 2 malasadas and 2 mochi filled. As a previous reviewer said it's almost just like being in Oahu. My thinking is that being tourists in HI, anything we eat there is good These malasadas def hit it out of the park. I had a vanilla and it's so OMGZZZZ so good. We will come back for more and taste the ice cream and get a boba drink next time for sure!!

Mochi Donuts are always yummy! The wait for malasadas would be about 40 minutes so we opted for the donuts. Ordered the Rainbow Taro Mochi, Belgian Chocolate Series - Oreo Chocolate Mochi, and Blueberry Mochi donuts. Out of the three, actually enjoyed the Blueberry Mochi donut! One critique I must say is there is no need for the sprinkles on the blueberry mochi because the flavor is already there!

Yelp
They get 5 stars for their mochi filled donut! It's really more like a mochi malasada. Reminds me of Hawaii! I came back two days in a row just to get more! I love that they have a wide variety of flavors for all their donuts. My only complaints are that the ube and taro flavors are extremely mild and they just taste sweet. If I did a blind taste test, a lot of them would taste the same. I could also do with a thinner layer of frosting on the mochi donuts. They also took 30 mins to complete my order. I think I waited too patiently because I didn't ask about my order until 30 mins had passed. But as soon as I asked, they made it right away. The only other thing was that when we got into the car, they mixed up our order and gave us a malasada instead of a mochi donut. It is still pretty new so I'm sure they'll work out the kinks. Overall, the mochi filled donut was soooo good and worth the wait!

Yelp
Super cute addition to Mira Mesa! Inside a new food hall which is super spacious, clean and good for working! So excited to see what else comes here. In terms of the drinks and snacks, I was impressed. I liked the latte with coffee jelly and my jasmine milk tea with boba. Both were delicious! I also got a malasada and it was made fresh and super tasty. There's also ice cream available and SO many flavors -- super unique ones too like milk tea, melona and apple. I'll be back to try it. Service was so kind and friendly. Really appreciate it. Welcome to Mira Mesa!

Yelp
Let me just say that ever since Hawaii, it's been a daily struggle finding fresh Malasadas. Jaunt serves some but if you're not quick enough, they might have already ran out. So when I found out about Dot & Dough and when I realized it's close to me, I was ready! I zoomed through traffic (at a safe, legal speed) and made my way to the VERY empty Mercato at Sorrento. Turns out they're the first ones to open up in the new food court in Sorrentk Valley. Having barely any foot traffic, I was able to get my matcha and ube malasadas. It was hot, fresh out! It definitely hit the cravings. Leaving a four star because I want to keep trying their different flavors but overall an amazing staff and experience.

Yelp
A Mix of Doughy Decisions I came for the Mochi Donuts (3 stars) but was liking the Malasadas (4 stars) a lot better. Malasadas: Ube (filled) Matcha (filled) Belgian Chocolate (filled) Cinnamon Sugar Mochi Donuts: Rainbow Taro White Chocolate Matcha Strawberry Pocky Banana Chocolate Blueberry Hot Cheetos The Mochi Donuts had some very interesting flavors but nothing really made me want to have a craving to go back. The dough tasted like any other Mochi Donut shop. The freshly made Malasadas are what you come here for. When hot, the dough is great. I preferred the non-filled Cinnamon and Sugar Malasadas. When cold, they still taste decent. Sad they didn't have any Mochi Malasadas. Definitely will try this option when I am back in San Diego. Official Review: 3+

Yelp
BIL picked up malasadas this weekend as they had a fundraiser and all proceeds went to the victims of the fire in Lahaina, Maui. It was my first time trying their malasadas and it was absolutely DELICIOUS. Eat it fresh! Cause it tastes the best when eaten fresh! My favorite is the original malasada with regular sugar. They do have cream filled options and cinnamon sugar options as well.

Yelp
10/10 recommend!! Lovely hidden gem in Sorrento Valley. Located in a little food court/ shopping plaza with plenty of parking. Lots of indoor seating & outdoor seating. It's a self order kiosk at the counter & Restrooms are outside. But the main thing is the MALASADAS- regular & stuffed are delicious!! Like wowwwwww! Soooo yummy! & FRESH!! I was very impressed with the quality! Reminded me of Hawaii! They also have ice cream & boba! It was our first time trying this place and we will definitely be back!

Yelp
I was very excited when I saw an ad and discovered a bakery in SD that specializes in Malasadas. I can still imagine the delicious taste of malasadas since my first visit in HI in 2018. Dot & Dough has good service but unfortunately, their malasadas don't compare nor even come close to Leonard's Bakery in HI. The cream inside the malasada was cold, which I find very strange. I was expecting the cream to be warm and oozing as I bite through the donut. If one has never tried Hawaii's malasadas, one may have lower expectations and this could possibly be good... being that I had higher expectations, I wasn't impressed.

Yelp
So I learned about this place from a friend and they s as I'd it's really good . For starters if you aren't familiar with the area it's actually hard to find the place, it's kinda hidden inside a food court that really doesn't explain that . Your order is all done by self serve screen . I actually like that because you can take your time without feeling rushed unless you have people behind waiting . The downside thou is you really don't see the donuts or pastries in real time in front of you . Even thou this place is self ordering on a screen , one should at least greet you while your ordering . The pastry are actually pretty good. I would've probably giving it a five-star if they were a little bit more friendlier..

Yelp
This review is based on the classic Malasadas...no filling just sugar and/or cinnamon....and I'll say this...FIRE! They are located in a Commercial area on Scranton in a food court...so beware if it's M-F @12pm (lunch rush). That will affect parking and wait times. The tables are communal with the other restaurants in the court. So there's not much of an actual restaurant. But the store front is nice, colorful, and clean. The Malasadas themselves. Everything thing I was hoping they'd be. Made to order...I got a dozen. Piping hot, the outside crisp and the inside fluffy. They are light, airy, and sooooo yummy. The staff is nice, polite, and I had my order in about 5mins. I'm glad there's a spot that has great Malasadas. I'll be back for sure.

Yelp
On my quest for the perfect malasada, I found myself at Dot & Dough, an intriguing spot promising an array of creative flavors. My excitement kicked into high gear as I ordered five different varieties: Madagascar Vanilla, Belgium Chocolate, Ube, Taro, and Matcha. First things first, the texture was fantastic. The malasadas had that delightful crunch on the outside, a testament to being fried just right. The insides were delightfully fluffy and warm, making each bite a joyful experience. As for the flavors, it was a bit of a mixed bag. The vanilla and ube, despite being popular choices, didn't quite hit the mark for me. The flavors seemed somewhat muted and I found myself wishing I had just ordered a plain malasada. The Belgium Chocolate filling was quite rich, maybe a bit too much for my liking. However, if you're a fan of intense chocolatey flavors, this one might just be your cup of tea. The matcha and taro, however, were the true stars of the show. Both flavors were bold, genuine, and left no doubt that I was indulging in matcha and taro goodness. They left me wanting more with each bite. All in all, Dot & Dough is a pretty solid place to get your malasada fix in San Diego. Not every flavor was a home run for me, but the overall experience was definitely worth it. If you're a fan of these Portuguese treats or looking to try something new, this place should be on your list.

Yelp
Deliciously filled masaladas! Got the taro, ube, caramel machiatto, and classic. The flavors stood out and the filling was abundant. I also got a mochi donut but I don't think the one I got was as fresh so my review of the mochi donuts are just ok.

Yelp
This is located inside a food court which is super convenient. I love how it opens early at 8am. I ordered six donuts: original sugar (2), milk and cereal, strawberry, blueberry, and oreo. My favorites are the milk and cereal and the strawberry. They also have delicious ice cream with a ton of flavors. I don't get mochi donuts often, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Yelp
After seeing pictures of their ube malasada, we decided to give it a try. And the pictures definitely did it justice. The smooth ube filling oozing out of the freshly made crisp malasada was harmonious in both taste and texture. We also tried the matcha mochi donut which was good, but could have used more matcha filling.

Yelp
Did an online order it was easy to navigate and process my pick up. Took some time when I arrived for the food to be done though like 15mins but they came out fresh. They were tasty the hit of the party most def. I wish they made like mini ones if you are local try some especially the taro malasdas and also the matcha mochi one. If you have like an event this is an easy desert options for you and people will love them.

Yelp
I came here to do some work, but the parking lot says you can stay 1 hour max. I got a vanilla malasada and it was okay. It tasted very doughy and so it was not enjoyable. I like the filling though.

Yelp
Dot and Dough is a connected shop with Fika Fika Ice Cream and they knew what they were doing opening together! While ordering ice cream, the thought of a nice, warm malasada definitely peaked my interest so I knew I had to get at least one. I opted for a mochi malasada and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it! It had a warm, chewy interior with a crisp exterior covered in sugar. The only thing was that the matcha filling was a bit too runny, which caused the filling to drip out fairly easily and would prefer it to be a bit thicker. Other than that, I will definitely be back for more and I suggest everyone does the same!

Yelp
Super fresh and delicious! I love mochi donuts and malasadas over regular donuts, any day. I'm so glad San Diego has a Dot & Dough now.

Yelp
Yes and yes! Hot, gooey, and heavenly is how I would describe the Malsadas. The ice cream flavors are also Asian inspired and my kids loved it. The Malsadas and scoops were all great sizes. For 3 Malsadas and two scoops it was about $20. Worth it. Seriously this was such a great, probably jot for health, doughnut that was tasty. I will be back! The location is also newly remodeled from their old food court. I loved the space and light fixtures. Also enough space for the kids to run around.
