New Orleans’s Most Iconic Diners | Eater New Orleans

"This Jefferson Parish favorite has a bunch of locations, all of which seem to have that proto-diner essence down pat despite opening in the ’90s. While none of them are currently 24/7, they remain an important part of late-night dining, particularly the location right by Ochsner. The blue plate specials include a country-fried steak and a catfish plate topped with Crawfish Julie sauce, two specialties that help define this mini-chain." - Eater Staff

The value for the amount of food you get is great. The employees are nice and hard working, and it has that vintage diner vibe which is cool I thought the food was okay, but I just ordered a club. Next time I am going to try a burger.

Google
I love a good diner. This place was amazing. The food was so delicious and the service was second to none. To put it simply this place is a must if you are hungry.

Google
Went here for breakfast with my family on our vacation and it is amazing such a traditional old fashion dinner. The staff were so welcoming you can tell the locals love that place and all of the staff care about them. Such a warm feeling to see people gather after church and enjoy a meal together. The food was awesome everything to expect from a diner heart and filling. The coffee was always hot and fresh.

Google
I would say the food was good but I only had one try at this place. I have been back three other times but I can’t seem to get anyone to take my order. They answered by phone but told me to hold and never came back to the phone. I went in to wait and they never even greeted us. We were sitting for over ten minutes but when someone else came in and sat next to us they got acknowledgment, they got coffee, and made an order. The woman never asked has someone been with you. I mean we didn’t have anything,no drinks,no menu’s no nothing so how you gonna serve the people that just walked in but we get no acknowledgment at all. I’m so upset with this place cus it’s a repeating behavior not a one time it happened ordeal. . They seriously do not care. They refuse to serve me and my loved ones. I kept and kept asking if we can go back and yet again..absolutely NO service. It a disgrace! I will not ask to go back. I am so disappointed and I am sorry I even asked to go back. Disappointing my whole dang family. Smh

Google

Google
No stars literally, we walked in and walked out. We didn't get greeted upon walking in, the tables that were not being used were dirty and the cook looked unhappy to see more customers walking in. We left and went somewhere else to eat.

Google
Food is traditional and a bit greasy. Service and atmosphere totally great and full of locals. I stopped here on outing to plantation homes I will be back

Yelp
The place was pretty busy when I came and when I say down the chairs weren't at all comfortable (blue chairs). From the ceiling, blinds, windows, and walls everything looked so dirty, as if no one cared about the looks and only about the money. It took what felt like 30 minutes to get my food, I had ordered a lot. And when I ate it was worth it, just so you know I had ordered a 3-2-1. Bacon tasted amazing. I had tried some French fries those were also good. When I tried the pancakes it felt like a tasted one of heavens clouds. Syrup was great and I overall loved the food. Staff were very kind, though they asked if we needed anything only twice, and I didn't really see them checking in on people far away and more over talking to the people close to the kitchen. They did tell us when the food was about to be done. When they did serve us our food eventually they served everything on clean plates. Over all great business/dinner would recommend. 4 Stars.

Yelp
I went there yesterday with my uncle and the server Gigi was so nice to us and the food was amazing I would recommend anyone to come here!!

Yelp
Its a not very unique Dots location. Im not a big fan of eating breakfast anywhere than at home because no. 1, I do a better job, no. 2, its the cheapest meal you can make and no. 3 , I am very impatient. This location , we visited after Zeta but before Ida, was still having a hard time with the breakfast crowd. Took a little longer than I am used to so it made my edgy and unhappy. Grumpy if you will. The food came out as we ordered. Wifey likes her bacon extra crispy, they pulled that off. The eggs were the way I like, it all just took a little too long. There isn't a lot of choices in the area so if you cant cook at home, stop on in. Just don't be starving and expecting fast fast food.

Yelp
From the outside it looked slammed because it's a compact diner, but it was worth stopping. We sat right away and the servers were all friendly and helpful. The food was diner cooking and came out hot and of good portion. Coffee was superb.

Yelp
My quest to eat at every Dot's location is now complete. If you're looking for a classic diner with good, reasonably priced, food find yourself any of Dot's five locations. In case you were not aware, I am a ridiculous human being. A while back one of my co-workers suggested we get breakfast for lunch and that Dot's is where we should go. We went, and it was great. That is when we decided we should visit every location and see which is the best. When we first decided to hit every location we made a huge miscalculation. We thought all of the Dot's were in Jefferson Parish. It wasn't until we went online that we saw St. Charles had it's own location in beautiful Luling. I don't get to Luling very often so the trip here was made specifically to eat at Dot's. From the looks of the place, it must have been a different business before becoming a Dot's. It is right next to a hotel on beautiful Hwy 90 and is very easy to get to. Service was among the most friendly of all the locations. They could tell we were new as most of the other customers seemed to be long time regulars. That didn't stop them from treating us great and making sure we left happy. The food here was, like the rest of the locations, very good. I'd go so far as saying it's the best breakfast I've ever had in St. Charles Parish other than crosandwichs with my dad on the way to fishing as a kid. This visit ended my quest to try every Dot's. I'd rank this location as #5 only because it is so far from my normal stomping grounds. But you can bet that the next time I am in Luling, I will be eating here.

Yelp
first of all their website and google states they close at 10 but was notified they are closing at 9! then I order the catfish plate but was not allowed to order from the sides list as I wanted! I could only choose a veggie and a regular side even though they are all on the sides list! no where on the menu states any of this!

Yelp
Breakfast at Dots Diner in Luling. Our first visit to a dots diner ever and we were very impressed. Don't be put off by this humble joint, as they actually serve up one of the best breakfasts in South Louisiana. The service here was great, they take your order fast and get you coffee as soon as your seated. My spouse enjoyed the Steak breakfast with the steak cooked medium rare and along with eggs sunny side up, hash browns and toast. The steak was cooked properly and the eggs were just right. I was amazed, impressed and delighted with the Creole Queen Breakfest which was Crawfish smothered over two eggs (Sunny Side Up!) with biscuits, hash browns and toast. It's rare nowadays that I find a new breakfast dish, but this was a new discovery for me and it was amazing! A perfect combination of Crawfish, sauce and eggs! I highly recommend Dots Diner in Lulling for their great breakfast selections to start out your day!

Yelp
My go to spot for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. They have made to order breakfast, Burgers and Daily Lunch Specials, and Meals for Dinner. Always friendly staff will keep your coffee cup full. So play the Juke Box and sit at the counter or a booth and enjoy the diner experience at Dot's

Yelp
Good homemade comfort food!! The staff is so friendly! We go at least 2-3 times a week.

Yelp
It's a shame that Dots is not better than what they are, the food is very good but I feel they are overpriced. A couple things holding them back is one of the 2 owners , specifically Mark. the man does not know how to run a business he walks in with his nose in the air and does not take customers comments or suggestions into consideration and does not take care of his employees. the Biggest problem in that establishment is their one cook by the name of Anthony, he yells at his waitresses and co cooks in front of customers, he does this wuite often, and nothing gets done about it. The waitresses there are Fantastic Ladies !! the assistant manager Tashia should be the store manager not the assistant. And their main cook Aaron is absolutely Fantastic !!

Erik W.

Yelp
The cook put the chicken in the microwave after complaining that he didn't care how long the food took even though there was only 3 or 4 tickets all of which were tables of 2. The chicken for the salad was cooked on the flat top but mine was put in the microwave for some reason. My dad got his food and then I had to wait another 5 minutes cause he didn't care and had the server plate up my food. The chicken was super tough, and the mash potatoes were cooler than a polar bears toenails. July 6th about 845pm

Yelp
Delicious, homemade food cooked super quickly, great coffee & always good service!!! We love to have breakfast at this location.
google avatar

Aurelia A.

Yelp
My first time here and I must say the wait was worth it..I had tried the breakfast sandwich with a side of loaded hashbrowns. The only negative thing I would say is that the poboy bread that the sandwich came on was hard. I will be back when I'm in Louisiana

Melissa N.

Yelp
Very good service and the food is good too. They have a pretty good variety on their menu but I mostly enjoy the breakfast. It's a cute little spot for early morning coffee and a quick bite to eat. I've never really been disappointed with that and would definitely recommend it.

Isabella N.

Yelp
I never fail to get good service and food here! Waitresses are always so kind and homey. Good quality food at a good price :)

Yelp
We stopped in tonight around 11:30 pm. They were pretty busy with football families after a game. Since they were crowded we anticipated waiting for our food, but we didn't have to wait as long as expected. My omelette and hash browns were cooked perfectly. Dinner for two with a tip was under $20. Absolutely a great value. It looks like the building used to be a Waffle House, but the food was soooooo much better. It was also a lot cleaner than any Waffle House I've been in. Breakfast is served all day, and each weekday has a different lunch special available until 4pm. We loved the food, the prices and the friendly service.

Yelp
Food never came. The workers were only worried about these to-go orders had to just walk out along with the crowd of people getting turned away or sitting for just a moment only to realize there hope for getting a nice meal was crushed.

Yelp
My husband and I went here to eat! Just to grab some burgers and shakes. The people working were super nice but deff. Couldn't wait for there shift to end ....the young kid working the register said sir I'm so sorry but I made ur shake completely wrong and it's not even thick like at all so I'm sorry then walked away and then says we'll I understand if u don't like it cuz I totally messed it up if u want i can make ya another one and he was just like I know what I'm good can I have a coke and we grabbed our food and left I was so just disappointed bcuz we travel for his work and I'm so sick of McDonald's etc. wish I could just find some good cheap food somewhere honeslty and like different but I don't have the best appetite to even come up with any ideas of what I would want.... But anyways so yes customers is somewhat good and food and shakes nope my vanilla shake I can deff agree with the kid hands down worse shake I ever ever drank or had in my entire 37years on this earth with a lot of shakes I means hit my homemade milkshakes even out do them by way far and that's saying alot bcuz I'm the worst cooker /drink/shake anything maker lol

Brandi W.

Yelp
Server was excellent, went for grilled fish and the shrimp and corn soup....BOTH no longer available!!! Not cool at all. Everytime we ordered, no matter what we ordered, we got 2 bowls of the soup. Very disappointed. This location should not be treated like the ones in the city.

Yelp
I had the Creole Queen for breakfast and It was soooooo good. Dots' environment has a family vibe to it, it seemed that everyone knew each other because the waitress' were so nice and have a mother feel to them. Service was fast and my coffee cup was never empty, I will come here again!

Terry G.

Yelp
Had their breakfast.....was great2 eggs...2 bacon...2 sausage....2 pancakes...grits...hash browns.....a lot of food.
google avatar

Jacqui L.

Yelp
My friend and I enjoyed the atmosphere here so much! Such a throwback to retro diner vibes complete with caring staff, old-fashioned signage, and a healthy flow of regulars. We each ordered omelets (the cajun and the veggie lover) and both enjoyed them and the hash browns we had chosen as a side. I mean, really just good diner food that you can't go too wrong with; I'd definitely return to this location when in the area!
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite lil place to go. They take such good care of me. The food is great. The service is awesome!!!! Not everyday can b perfect but it's the perfect lil place to go and have family time, just chill out with a cold glass of ice tea or just relax with a cup of fresh java!!! Order a plate of food and u will be full for the day!! Try the sweet potato fries or beignets stick just for a snackJust go try it and see for yourself!!!! Someone always has a smile for ya. Rembr they may not be ya mana BUT your ALWAYS at home at Dots diner
google avatar

Ronald L.

Yelp
The staff is good and coffee better. I had the really big omelette. It is huge but a little under cooked. The place is clean. And friendly so I'll come back.

Yelp
One of the best diners I been to in Louisiana! I stayed at a motel nearby and this diner was the closest spot to eat something quick to eat. This place offers what feels and tastes like home cooked food! I ate here once and ordered take out twice, and there will definitely be more times that I visit. It's worth the price and gives you a full belly. The employees have a great attitude and give their best customer service. Don't let the small building fool you, it's a must you try this place out! My favorites are the Dot big breakfast, Philly cheesesteak sandwich, and the liver and eggs. Oh and you gotta try the blueberry pancakes! Enjoy!!!

Michael N.

Yelp
The setting is an old style classic diner, the menu is of classic diner items along with a mixture of breakfast and Cajun foods and breakfast is served all day which is a nice option. Burgers are large, although the patty themselves leave a little to be desired in the way of seasonings and taste but an overall good experience. Their breakfast items are on point and there is a good variety of options and they have a daily food special which I haven't tried but looking at the menu it would be well worth it. The servers are friendly and attentive, the food arrives fairly quickly depending on the items ordered and you get to watch the preparation process. The overall ambiance of the place is what draws you in. Doesn't look like much from the outside but once you step in you get the feeling you stepped back in time a few years. Would definitely recommend for anyone passing by for any meal of the day.

Yelp
Breakfast always consistent. Cheap and straight to the point. Great after a night out drinking

Katierra R.

Yelp
The waitress was very rude telling us next when the next person in our family was suppose to order. the cook didn't wanna cook for our family only. The people next to us got the same waitress and she was respectful to them but not to us.
google avatar

Rice B.

Yelp
Breakfast is served all day. Always packed on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Three of us had breakfast at 930 am on Saturday. The small restaurant was crowded. Fortunately there was one vacant table. It's not unusual to see people waiting to be seated. There was a large selection of breakfast choices, pancakes, eggs, omelets, biscuits, breakfast meats, etc. Prices were affordable. The wait for the food was long as food is freshly cooked to order. The food was tasty and good. Go there for breakfast but allow time. We were there an hour at the peak breakfast hour, Saturday.
google avatar

Jason C.

Yelp
Friendly staff and a clean diner. Dot's house favorite is the Creole Queen for breakfast. Dinner specials, soups, old fashioned shakes and malts are what makes this a down home local spot.

Yelp
I 'm a regular at this location. Been coming here over 26 years. Have had excellent service 99% of the time. But today.... Just YUCK!!!! I sat at the bar and watched the unmasked dishwasher open mouth cough, which in itself during Covid-19 time... is SCARY! If the management is reading this, look at the cameras around 10:29-10:35am. Then he took a paper towel and coughed up his phlem, spit it in there, then wipe his mouth and nose with the paper towel. I watched him. Looked in his eyes.... waiting for him to bend and wash his hands. He stood there looking back at me and then reached into the dishwasher and grabbed a bowl fingers deep inside of it and placed it on the shelf. Next he grabbed 3 serving plates, his palm touching the center of the top plate and placed them on the shelf. I am TOTALLY GROSSED TF OUT. I think I will be taking a LONG break from eating here, until a new dishwasher is found. I do not want to be a Typhoid Mary victim. Read up on her story and you will understand.

Yelp
If you arrive in NOLA and your first stop isn't Dots, your trip started bad. Had the seafood omelette with hash browns and brown gravy,OMG. The cook should return to Austin with me. Love it!, And the staff was on point too.

Yelp
Consistently good food at a great price in a clean restaurant served by friendly staff.

Yelp
Friendly staff and great diner food. Good home cooking anytime.

Yelp
Clean friendly place! Great coffee and very good quality food choices. I had the crayfish breakfast special and it was terrific. Good Wi-Fi also. Second visit and remembered the name on my way to the airport again (not from the area)

Eric E.

Yelp
Staying at the motel 6 in Luling on my way home to Florida I stopped by for breakfast. The food was good but more importantly the staff was great! I came back for dinner and I'm looking forward to breakfast again tomorrow morning before I head home. Down south hospitality at its finest!
google avatar

Brad B.

Yelp
Great spot for breakfast! The Cajun omelet was amazing. Friendly staff and the food was really good. We will be coming back soon!

Gloria A.

Yelp
This is one of my regular stops when I'm in the area. As always, service and food were great. My only complaint was that the place was VERY busy and it took close to a half hour before my friend and I got our food, but like I said, the place was VERY busy. I will definitely stop there again and will recommend this place to my friends. Still the best hashbrowns...crunchy outside and chewy in the middle.
google avatar

Roland O.

Yelp
We wanted to eat more local than just a chain so we stopped in Dots. We shouldn't have. I'm not going to blast them but... The service was nice but incredibly slow and they messed up our order twice. I should say, they made them right. The hash browns we're good which was why the two stars. The omelet was crispy, not good. The worst thing was the watery coffee. I can go into more detail but it will just be nit picking mediocre dinner food.

Patrick K.

Yelp
I found myself at Dot's in Luling when my car broke down on the side of the road nearby. I called AAA and proceeded to Dot's for a bite to eat while I expected to wait ninety minutes for the tow truck to arrive. Well, ninety minutes turned into a four hour wait. The entire staff couldn't have been nicer or more hospitable to me during what seemed to be an eternity. They even found me a phone charger because my battery was running low. Many thanks to these kind people. My breakfast was very tasty and promptly served to me. I've never had so much coffee at one meal. So, if you're hungry or broken down on the side of the road, there is no better refuge than Dot's Diner in Luling!
google avatar

Toni F.

Yelp
Great place to eat anytime day or night. The staff is super friendly and the comfort food is great.
google avatar

Yelp
This DD has the best Patty Melts in the city It reminds me of the old time dinners when I was a kid My Grandparents owned a dinner in upstate NY ,this takes me back.Good food &friendly people with one upgrade free internet
google avatar

Casey B.

Yelp
Love the food and the staff. Any time I go in they're always cracking jokes and making everyone feel right at home.
google avatar

Johnathan R.

Yelp
It's a Dot's Diner. There isn't much to say. They are all dirty kitchens, but the staff is great, and it's me and my daughter's guilty pleasure. It's an upper management issue that keeps the kitchen too small, leaving no room for their equipment, which leads to a nasty kitchen. Which is right out front for your customers to see, "Dot".
google avatar

Liz C.

Yelp
The employees were very friendly and had a great sense of humor. The menu was straight forward diner fair with some very pleasant surpsises, my favorite of which was the crawfish bread. It was so flavorful and absolutely delicious. My regret was not ordering more of it! I also had the hot sausage sandwich. Delicious! Beignet sticks for dessert were also great. Great value, great good, great service!
google avatar

Patrick K.

Yelp
A diner chain in Louisiana with reliably good diner food. My favorite is the healthy omelette, with toast. Basic and simple, but sometimes that is the best way.
google avatar

jin p.

Yelp
I was wrong. This is not 5 star restaurant. I should of had just breakfast from the hotel I stayed. It is like waffle house. No even worse. Just like cheap motel style breakfast. And not even cheap or good portion of food. Worst experience.
google avatar

Balazs V.

Yelp
Breakfast all day. Bathrooms clean with soap and paper towels. Friendly staff. Soups just warm but everything else nice and hot. Plain, no frills diner interior. Good selection, good food. 3 stars only because it was a good average place but did not stand out. Would give 3 1/2 stars if it was possible.
