Falling Down Beer Company Abruptly Closes Both of Its Taprooms | Eater Detroit

"Ferndale’s beloved greasy spoon on Nine Mile closed on June 17; the spot was a neighborhood favorite for big breakfasts and affordable diner coffee, and owners Valter and Elda Xhomaqi said the property owner declined to renew their lease while they try to find employment for their staff at their Whistle Stop restaurants." - Brenna Houck

Ferndale’s Double EE Restaurant Will Reopen as Earl’s Diner | Eater Detroit

"A long-running east-side greasy spoon that was a popular neighborhood diner unexpectedly closed on Father’s Day after the building owner refused to renew the restaurant’s lease, ending operations amid a landlord-tenant dispute. The business had been run by Valter and Elda Xhomaqi since 2002 (they later operated two Whistle Stop locations), and the sudden shutdown left regular customers and staff saddened." - Brenna Houck

We waited a while to try this joint, until it was convenient for us. Our Saturday lunch stop was perfect! The island burger I had was great and he loved the fried chili dog. I ordered (what turned out to be the last) strawberry rhubarb fried pie ala mode, and it was certainly big enough to share! I like the fact that they don’t seem to have a frozen stockpile of them sitting in a freezer in the back. The only not positive thing that I can say is that the sensor-driven porch light kept kicking on and off in the rain/grayness of the day, and it was a little annoying; however, I’m guessing that it was contingent upon the weather. I loved the melodious voice of the waitress, the “haint blue” porch ceiling, and obligatory greeter cat on the porch. It felt very southern, like I was in the low country or something.

Found this little gem out on a drive with my teenage son. He said it was the best sandwich he's had in a long time. He had the chicken bacon ranch Philly with fried pickles and I had the patty melt & tots! Great local spot, cute little cats hanging around outside was a nice perk too!

This is one of those unexpected gems. It is small but great home cooked food and terrific fried pies. It is a cool atmosphere as well. I highly recommend it!

Awesome local mom n pop Restraunt. Great vibe and food. If you're traveling through the area, a definite stop for food and dessert treats. The Fried Pies are delicious 😋

Cute little family owned diner in the heart of Highlandville. Very friendly, lots of local history on the walls. We had the "Hotter"chicken sandwich, French dip and split a house salad because it was so big!! And Tigg, one of the local cats, will probably greet you on the front porch. He is so sweet. 😺😺

I think 🤔 I entered a time warp or was thrown back to my childhood. When entering this rustic place, I instantly had childhood memories visiting my Grandparents farm in Adolphus Kentucky in the 70’s. Prices were awesome and can even afford a drink at $1.99. Service was impeccable. Even got to meet the cook. I had the bbq pork sandwich, hubby had the burger special, plus some onion rings. (Darn, I missed the meatloaf special on the board, and I love meatloaf.) Everything was really good, hot, and tasty. No skimping on the meats here! I think we’ll even try the fresh market catfish on Fridays. Worth the little drive from Indian Point MO. These lil places are almost extinct. With bringing back memories and good casual food and friendly people , makes you leave with a smile and feeling good 😊 military veteran friendly too. Highly recommend, but Fridays might just be a wait with fresh catfish! However, I had my eye on the teriyaki chicken sandwich w/pineapple or the Philly cheesesteak. So many good choices here. I really enjoyed myself. 😊 ❤️

Very friendly service and delicious food! Reminded me of all those little mom and pop cafes I waited tables at when growing up in a small town!! Like a walk down memory lane! Will definitely go back and try other things on the menu!! Can’t go wrong stopping in for a bite to eat. Something on the menu for everyone!!

The burgers and potato wedges were good. Everything was hot and fresh. Service was good, but a little slow. Will be back to try other items.
