"Home to a casual, no-frills atmosphere and brick oven-baked pizzas, the spin-off of the popular Hood River-based brewery is a magnet for neighborhood families. 12 Hardcore Portland-Area Brewpubs

"Hailing from the beautiful small town of Hood River nestled in the picturesque Columbia Gorge comes Double Mountain Brewery. The pizza at the Woodstock area brewpub seems to demand other brewpubs to step up their pizza game: Pies come fiery hot out of a brick oven that approaches 750 degrees, and it even features a collaboration with local wing champs Fire on the Mountain: a pizza with hot wing sauce, bleu cheese, and chicken breast. The margherita, though classic and simple, is an absolute winner and pairs perfectly with Vaporizer Pale Ale, a dry and light ale with herbal notes from the addition of challenger hops. Inside seats around 150, while outside adds room for an additional 60 pizza lovers." - Ron Scott

Wonderful service! We are more and more picky about going out when it comes to service and we will definitely be back here for their wonderful service, pleasant atmosphere and yummy pizza and salads. Especially recommend the jersey pie. Wish they had a better more malty hazy ipa. Our 2 year old also enjoyed the cavatappi appetizer as his meal.

Google
Great bar with good conversations. The food is solid and good the service is attentive. A folk band was playing only making the atmosphere better.

Google
Good food and some interesting beer/ciders. I had the Pastrami sandwich which was pretty good. The Caesar salad was a little over-dressed, but tasted good.

Google
Unknown on the food as I didn’t eat but the beers were fantastic and the service was as well! Great selection and also had cider which is nice depending on the folks you hang out with. Def going again and hope to see their other site in Hood River soon.

Google
This restaurant does not provide or guarantee gluten free food so my friend with severe celiac disease bought a meal across the street at a gluten free shop and joined the rest of our group at a table outside by the street so we could all eat together. Although this is an action specifically protected under the ADA, the manager of this restaurant still asked us to leave "per restaurant policy" even after we cited the law to her. Ruined the experience for all of us for her to be so dismissive of our friend's disability. Very inaccessible and impolite. Also, the mac and cheese was cold, like it had been sitting out.

Loved it! Plenty of outdoor seating, and a really nice location on Woodstock! I had the BLT with the side Greek salad and they were both delicious. Very happy with my choice to pay the $3 for an “upgraded” side salad. The bacon on the BLT was perfectly crispy, and the tomatoes were fresh. And I was super impressed by their house-made ginger ale! The menu was a bit limited for my friend who is vegetarian, but we made it work. Loved the QR-scan menus so we didn’t have to worry about touching menus that other people had used, and there was all-around a very respectful vibe regarding Covid safety.

Google
Went in search of a tuna melt, 6 pm & the place was packed but fast seating & service. Bf didn't like his beer but thought the Portobello wrap was good; my tuna good but didn't care 4 the 'mini bar' they have limited liquor.

Google
Usually get a pizza and salad. Kids like the pizza and grilled cheese. Their specialty pizzas are hit or miss. Quality beers, the stout is so good I wish they had it on nitro. Always friendly and relatively quick!

Yelp
I've been here before and recently came in again for pizza week. Understandable that they prefer to only do whole pies but it really is better to offer slices for this promo. We did have to order an entire pizza for this so we went ahead and had a pint while we waited. It was midday and mid week so not very busy at all. Nice big open area for seating. It didn't take very long for the food to be ready. It really was quite nice. The pizza was definitely flavorful. Servers were friendly and no complaints on service. I would probably avoid busy times because it seems like it would get quite loud but I can see stopping in for a pint and a bite.

Yelp
I can not say enough good things about this place. We came here on Sunday the 23rd after finding it on being Fido. I can see why they are so highly rated!! The employees made sure the tables were wiped down after the recent rain. They could not have been more accommodating to us and our two dogs. They made sure we had a water bowl and our dogs were happy. This will be a must stop when we are down in Portland!! You will not be disappointed by the awesome food, drinks and service!!

Yelp
Visiting Portland and this is the go to pizza place. We picked up yet I've been told the brewery is fun with many choices and great atmosphere. We added garlic and fresh basil slivers to the plain, and the Buffy was a wonderful mix of sweet peppers and savory olives. The pies come In two sizes and the crust was firm so no slices drooped. The crust could hold its toppings! The staff is friendly and pick up is easy. I'd certainly go back to try a few more items and a beer!

Yelp
Great time at the tree lighting on Saturday the 14th of December. A wonderful IPA and cider were being provided Double Mountain. Heather provided great service.

Yelp
I have had Double Mountain in the past but I haven't delved into this particular location. Steve and I got their very refreshing and solid Kölsch beer. Being very light bodied which we can always appreciate. Flavor features to find with this beer is clean and sweet. It also goes down very smooth which we can appreciate as that is a typical preference of ours as well when enjoying beers on the lighter side.

Yelp
Extremely below average food at high prices. We ordered the greek salad and it was basically all lettuce with 1 tiny tomato and 3 tiny slices of cucumber and if you know greek salads its mainly those two ingredients. Its obvious they are skimping on the more expensive ingredients. On top of that they threw in mushrooms!!! on a greek salad!!! smh. Ok now onto the pizza - ordered the sausage, onion pepp and it came out burnt. On top of that they was barely any toppings and sauce and that jank was over 30 bucks!!! what a disappointment. This place is not worth it and we are not coming back.

Yelp
A really great neighborhood place for pizza and beer. There are a few cocktails, premixed, and some ciders as well, but they specialize in NW style ales. Pizza is solid, good crust, not too thick or thin. Service is above average.
google avatar

Bubba Y.

Yelp
Excellent pizza, a gazillion taps. Atmosphere is busy but not overwhelming. Also, great in-house brewed ginger ale and root beer.

Kendra K.

Yelp
Cool vibe, fantastic service, and wonderful food! Wish there was more selection of cocktails, but everything else is perfect!

Yelp
Fantastic brews! So good that I had to order some bottles to go. Service was awesome. Our order was taken promptly, set up with condiments and silverware, food came out timely. A real chill and relaxed setting to enjoy some beers. The sandwich wasn't my favorite but I was there for the brews which exceeded expectations so no complaints.

Yelp
I usually don't go out of my way to order pizza (I know, weird), but their Truffle Shuffle pizza was calling my name. I added chicken to it and it was perfection! Great crust, the truffle wasn't too overpowering, the chicken was nicely done. Pair it with their ranch and I'm hooked. The service was super prompt and patient. We ordered a couple of their barrel aged sours and it was soooo good that we had to order a couple of bottles to go. Our server was very helpful in choosing which drinks we'd like. The place is huge so plenty of seating for larger parties.

Yelp
Sunday Farmer's Market on Woodstock visit thus the outdoor tables were in hot demand on a 80° day. Indoor a/c was pleasant with lots of wooden tables, beautiful long bar, and a bottle shop for To-Go sales. CT style pizza First timer so no other comparisons here. The menu says it's a thin pie blasted to blackish char in 700° oven. It was all of that but found by my 3rd slice its crisper bottom had gone soft, maybe because it's so thin. Crust was still in good shape though, chewy with a bit of crisp left. House sausage was spectacular with just enough fennel and medium fine grind that gets the right mouth feel. Mushrooms definitely visible were very thinly sliced and scattering of red onions made for a delicious pie. Sauce had a hint of zest and didn't overpower Started with some greens.. and it was A Big Greek Salad for $11 but Light spring greens and a very light balsamic but prefer more crisp for texture (romaine, iceberg, green) + more tomatoes & olives. Their ginger ale had pretty good ginger spice for an ale vs Beer. The added Hops for bitterness, 20 IBU is a definite winner and helps temp the Honey sweetness, still sweet but not as much as a regular soda. Would love a low sugar varietal akin to a Kombucha. Just $4 for a beautiful mug full that boasts a frothy head on arrival, a unique characteristic of DM's house ginger ale. Server was attentive and helped us select an IPA that worked, giving us several samples ... Shoulda noted it after much sampling lol. Cheers to Double Mountain for breaking CT pies with us, without an East Coast commute ;D

Yelp
Great cheese bread, salad and beers. Did not like the mac & cheese, a bit sour. Pizza pretty good. Service fair.

Yelp
This spot has a great look and food that matches. Their interior is well designed and - according to my grandmother - a recent update. There is a great variety of seating and the space is open and well lit. The food was solid. My family got the pizza and I got the turkey sandwich. Both were great. The standout was the house-made root beer that everyone got. The service was great and they checked in on use often. Overall this is a solid spot to check out if you're in the area.

Yelp
I came here to see a band play, and this location is just NOT well-suited as a concert venue. The area designated for the bands to play is TINY, and has the band basically performing directly to a to-go beer cooler, the endmost seat of the bar, and two tables off to the side. There are NO good seats in the house for seeing live music. If you're planning on coming to see a band, please reconsider. I don't think I'll come back to see music. On the flip side, staff is friendly and attentive. Food is on the better side, and there is a large beef selection, presumably why most people come here. There are few non-alcoholic options, but I'm happy that they had iced tea. Prices seem a bit high for what you're actually getting. Street parking is all that is available, and you may be in for a walk depending on when you visit. If you want to get a beer and some food, this is probably a good destination. If you want to see live music, it really isn't.

Yelp
Love the ambiance in this brewery. Fantastic food, super friendly staff, and the place has a nice homey feel to it. They make you feel like a part of the family whenever you go there. And their merchandise selection is the best I've ever seen at any brewery. It's extremely impressive. They even have stuff for babies and kids! Love it. Recommend the mac & cheese for sure, but their pizzas are incredible as well. So glad they're open at noon everyday! Check this place out for lunch for sure!

Brandon C.

Yelp
Had the Sausage, Onion and Mushroom pizza along with cheese bread and caesar salad. Also tried the Jiro Japanese Lager. All were excellent!

Yelp
I can't believe they have a Portland location! My fiancé loved the jersey pie while me and my friend go to favorite is the salami one! The arugula just adds the right pepper-y touch to the salami. To my surprise the baby spinach salad was definitely a hit! Don't usually love blue cheese but it work so well with the sherry vinaigrette and the baby spinach. The dried cranberries add just the right amount of sweetness and the nuts give a good crunch. 10/10 for the baby spinach salad! YUM!

Yelp
We came here on a Wednesday night and were surprised to find it packed - probably overflow from Labor Day weekend! For starters, we got the chips and pico and for mains we got the Heirloom pizza. The starters were not super impressive and didn't seem made in-house, but that's on us for ordering it. The pizza was definitely special - with a pesto base and huge slices of tomatoes on top. This was something I hadn't seen or had before, so I was a bit skeptical based on looks. That being said, it tasted amazing! It was fresh, not super heavy or cheesy, and VERY crispy (I personally like it this way, but if you are not a fan of crispy, be sure to tell your server as their menu mentions that they char their pizza a bit more than average). We got two beers to go as well (humongous and relatively cheap), which I found nice and convenient. Overall, a great place to check out if you're in Hood River :-)

Yelp
Craving pizza and decided to give Double Mountain a try. I saw that they do partially cooked pizzas that you finish at home. It intrigued me and would be perfect for our evening festivities. I ordered the small Truffle Shuffle, small Sausage, Onion and Mushroom Pizza and a large Greek Salad. When we were ready I threw the pizzas in the oven for 9 minutes and we were good to go. It was REALLY good!!! The pizzas had great taste and the crust was crunchy. I'm a fan and we will be back. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The online ordering was easy and the food was ready on time. I'll try the beer on our next visit.

Yelp
Great food and beer, and very family friendly. Good service and made sure everyone was attended to, and was very understanding about our uncertain numbers (back in hometown meeting old friends so our reservation was, "like between 6 and 12, lol" and they were kind and understood despite that being legitimately unhelpful on our end, sorry!)

Xiaoman S.

Yelp
Service is pretty quick and caring. I love the summer vibes around here. Food is really tasty! Have been here for over 4 times probably within 3 months move into Portland.
google avatar

Macklin M.

Yelp
Food is awesome!! Get the Truffle Shuffle pizza you won't regret it! Service was fast and great and I really love the outside seating too! Our server was Josh and he kicked ass! Will come back!
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome beer and food. Really nice staff. I recommend the Truffle Shuffle and a Hop Lava ipa
google avatar

Yelp
Solid pizza and a large beer selection in a low key environment. Would recommend if you are in the area!

Yelp
Great service, delicious pizza & beverages. This is a fun spot to hang out with friends.

Austin R.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places for pizza, the jersey pie is the best. The service is always good. Usually they have a good place to sit inside or out if it's a nice day.

Jack S.

Yelp
Snooty wait staff adding 'gratuity' to the price. without asking. Have a pint of brew next door at Otto's German deli instead. Better beer, no airs.
google avatar

Allison S.

Yelp
A first timer today and OMG YASS! Great food and good atmosphere where you feel comfortable and like you can go back more often. We are in Warrenton Oregon and always want to go out to lunch when we come to see my sister who works at VCA pet clinic. Nice looking town and nice to see this place out in the open where you can smell the good food just walking up. Will definitely be coming back more often.

Yelp
Came here again for a friend's bday party and am still amazed at how good the pizza is and also their customer service for our group! We had a large party and took up a small section in the back. I believe we ordered at least half a dozen pizzas. I lost tracked after trying out the first few. The stand out pizzas in my opinion are the Jersey Pie, The Salami Pie, and Truffle Shuffle (with bacon). The Truffle Shuffle is probably my new favorite pizza there and definitely ranks up there with the other pizzas in town. You have to like portabella mushrooms and not be afraid of the crumbled goat cheese (not that strong). Its definitely a must try! I will definitely try to make it out here more often now.
google avatar

Yelp
What a perfect taphouse, great beer, delicious pizza & cool atmosphere. Two living room spaces to chill at, large Bar seating area & big booths - there are no TVs, just albums playing classic vinyl records to create great conversations. I love the Hop Lion & the Buffy - but I'm August you must get the Heirloom Tomorrow pizza & a fresh hop if available.
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
Good pizza- it's New Haven style and we like to ask for it crispy as it gets a little more done and it's really good. Around September they have a seasonal pizza with heirloom tomatoes that's unbelievable, and we like the white pizza also. They have a record player with albums, and you can pick out your own LPs, which is really cool, and the beer is good.
google avatar

Jason C.

Yelp
I've been here a few times. They always have fantastic beers for a broad range of palates. I love their hoppy beers as much as their stouts and Belgian-style ones. I usually sit at the bar, and Brian, the bartender, is super friendly and knowledgeable about all the menu options. I tried their food for the first time today, and it was delightful. The portobello mushroom wrap had tasty truffle flavor and a nice brightness. I'm glad I got the aioli on the side, as the wrap was perfect on its own. I'm excited to try their pizza next time!

Brian D.

Yelp
Excellent pizza and beer spot. Top notch in both. It's pizza the way it's meant to be, not Dominos or Pizza Hut. There's beautiful char and gooey cheese and mild sauce, washed down with hoppy (not still good malt flavor) of their beers. Can't go wrong with a Jersey Pie and a few Hop Lavas.

Chucknonverbal ..

Yelp
Pizza has clearly shrunk in size over the past year, but the company denies the change. Makes us sad, but not ever going back. I simply just hate being lied to.
google avatar

Osh K.

Yelp
Someone from New England told me about this place. They said if you want good New Haven style pizza to come check this place out. The menu states that the pizza will be charred and is baked on a high temperature so let your server know if you dont want it done that way or baked less to a golden brown than an almost burnt stage. I prefer charred it's way more flavorful. We ordered a small cheese pizza that was simple cheese and sauce it was baked to perfection and loved that it was crunchy. The other was the truffle Shuffle a white pie with mozzarella, crumbled goat cheese, portabella mushrooms truffle oil with green onions this was mouthwatering and the whole combination was unbelievable I regret that we ordered that in a small its was ridiculously good. Double mountain has two locations one in Hood river and Woodstock they are known for their beer as well but I am not a huge beer guy. We will visit again to try more pizza
google avatar

Dan R.

Yelp
A wide selection of fine beers, that they make in Hood River. Fine pizzas and sandwiches. What more could you aske for. Great service, of course. Even the side salad nicely done with a tasty caesar dressing. Had the Jersey sub which is my favorite hot Italian sub in town. Last time I was hear split the truffle shuffle pie with some tasty added sausage. Hard to go wrong here, Usually five or so IPAs on tap.
google avatar

Eric H.

Yelp
This is my favorite brewery in Oregon, so of course I am stoked that they opened a taproom within a mile of my house. They are typically busy when I go there, but it has tended to be more on the weekends so far. They have an awesome system where you can put your name in and then they will text you when your table is ready, so that you can wander around the neighborhood. The beer is the best reason to come here, but the pizza is good as well. They have a somewhat limited menu, but they make up for it with the quality of the ingredients. The one review saying the pizza is bad and to eat at Pizza Hut instead must have some grudge against them, because that simply isn't true. Perhaps not everyone has the same tastes, but for sure don't take his word for it. The staff has always been very friendly, both here and at the Hood River location. I would likely still come here even if everything changed except the beer, but I am very happy with the way things are. Now stop reading this review and go try it yourself!
google avatar

Jay M.

Yelp
Great to have a nice taproom in sleepy little Woodstock. (If it's not enough, Woodstock Liquor is next door.) Plenty of outside seating. Dog friendly out there. And always in the shade when the sun sets. My only complaint is an uninspiring menu that is very slow to evolve. Love the staff and would be in there more with a menu refresh.
google avatar

Joe M.

Yelp
Double Mountain I have had for a long time. It's not my favorite, but they are consistent. One of my friend's suggested we go there after walking around the neighborhood so I obliged since I have yet to go. Right away there are some things anyone should know before coming here right off the bat: No Happy hour can be very busy at dinner time very very family friendly aka bar babies If you can get past those hurdles, you will enjoy the brewery. Along with their staple beers such as the Vaporizer and the Zweikle, they have seasonal and rare beers on tap. For a full pint, it can range from $6.50-9. A 12 oz. can range $4.50. Sampling is definitely the way to go and the servers are happy to find what taste buds satisfy. The pretzel bites and cheese dip is highly recommended. It's not too salty and the cheese dip is pretty addicting. It also pairs well with whatever beer you are having. There is some liquor options but if you want a mixed drink, options are a little more limited. There is some seating outside, but no big patio is present. The pizza's look appetizing and I saw many tables have them. Again, Double Mountain is not my favorite, but it's a good option in the neighborhood.
google avatar

Robert K.

Yelp
Good cold beer and the best New Haven Connecticut style thin pizza in town. This is a huge place is is great for large groups. The service is friendly and fast. The pizza was delicious and my IPA brew was really tasty and cold. I got the pepperoni and mushroom pizza in was nice and greasy but good. I will come back here for sure when I am on this side of town. Parking is tough sometimes tho.
google avatar

Poonam J.

Yelp
Would be a 5 star if they were dog friendly although they show up as dog friendly on yelp which is misleading
google avatar

Lydia W.

Yelp
Pizza is to die for! up. Great atmosphere and staff. Excellent customer service. You will like this place.

Dave M.

Yelp
The food is great!! The staff is friendly and provides great service. Great atmosphere, weekends the have local musicians. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Todd H.

Yelp
Okay. Want to know why this Taproom is better than that Taproom? Please people. Sorry, everyone can make some kind of decent tasting beer. I know the true beer drinker will argue for their favorite. They are the exception not the rule. Food. Families go out to eat. They come back for good food. They repeat because of good service. They make it a habit because its affordable and not going to drive them to the poor house if they stop in once a month. Plenty of space lots of room in between tables. Not the open let your kids run around of other places. When did going to a restaurant mean let your kids run around? The Pizza the sandwiches, the salads, have all been good portions with great taste. I mean that is what we are asking for when we go out isnt it? Decent service. I would not give it the most attentive and most friendly or most knowledgeable but hey its PNW. Laid back but not too laid back. I would definitely recommend for a date night or a family night out.
google avatar

J F.

Yelp
Delicious IPAs and a yummy pizza menu. We had the one with pesto and heirloom tomatoes and it was very tasty and unique. Plenty of seating indoors and out! Servers were friendly and attentive. Wish they had a few mixed drink options and a burger.

travis t.

Yelp
We came in on a non-busy day with a party of seven (four kids) and immediately got lectured because our kids had the audacity to sit at an outside picnic table. One of said kids has an immunodeficiency problem that is worsened by gluten. We ordered him a gluten-free order from the place across the street and were immediately lectured that we couldn't bring "outside food." Never mind that we had just ordered for the rest of us, never mind that we've been customers since the first week they opened, never mind that they weren't even attending tables, dammit, we couldn't have one kid with health issues have a meal with the rest of us.
google avatar

Jared M.

Yelp
Great pizza and great drinks! This is our go to pizza place when we are looking for a fun night out. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Derek I.

Yelp
Great pies in a casual and relaxing environment. It's pretty big inside, so it's friendly for families and groups. Pizza crust has a nice chewy doughy inside, with a great crunchy bite on the exterior. It's thin crust here, and it's done well. The pizzas aren't soggy or weighed down by toppings. The Popeyes, SOM, and salami pie were crowd pleasers after hiking at Silver Falls. The beer helped too - and there's a nice selection of craft beers. Cheers!
