The Best Cocktail Bars in San Antonio | Eater Austin

"The portraits hung throughout this Downtown pub depict a rogue’s gallery of various drunkards and ne’er-do-wells, the first indication that it doesn’t take itself too seriously. The second is that the place makes no bones that it wants to give you a buzz. Long shared tables give the downtown space a public hall raucousness, especially when it hosts occasional burlesque shows. The cocktail and food menus pluck a magpie’s nest of influence, mixing oysters and gin martinis with po’boys and painkillers." - Brandon Watson

The 38 Best Restaurants in Tel Aviv | Eater

"To understand the scope of Tel Aviv’s burgeoning cocktail scene, look no further than this dapper bar located on a mellower stretch of busy Dizengoff Street that caters to the cocktail-curious and -savvy alike. Never-before-seen concoctions with house-made mixers and kooky presentations (vessels include giant egg shells and even a bloody mary served in an IV bag) have made happy hour a scene. There’s even a cocktail delivery service, ensuring spot-on mojitos and margaritas anywhere in the city — even the beach. [$$]" - Keren Brown

Google
We visited Double Standard after a recommendation from a local tour employee and we loved it! Great happy hour including $1.50 oysters. We ordered about 3 dozen and they were delicious. Great drink specials and the cocktails were very good. Definitely recommend.

Google
Double Standard – San Antonio's Burger Gem! Hands down, the best burgers we've ever eaten—perfectly cooked, juicy, and packed with flavor. The drinks were just as impressive: creative, well-balanced, and strong in all the right ways. The atmosphere is fun, lively, and welcoming—exactly the kind of place you want to hang out with friends or unwind after a long day. Double Standard has definitely set a new standard for burgers and good times in San Antonio!

Yvonne

Google
I ordered the All-American Cheeseburger and it was perfect — cooked just right, juicy, and packed with flavor. The fries were crispy and absolutely delicious. Pro tip: if you’re a ranch fan, order a side for dipping — you won’t be disappointed!

Google
Sarah with Offline - We went to Double Standard for date night. Parking downtown is always a pain and can be expensive but if you’re patient you might be able to find a spot on the street- we did! The place was pretty busy when we arrived but we found two seats at the bar with no problems. Our bartender was so fast and gave us excellent food and drink recommendations. Everything was delicious! Highly recommend the burgers (YUM)!

Google
I happened upon this great cocktail bar on a recent trip to San Antonio. The mixologists and bartenders at Double Standard are world-class. They are true artists. The food is just as good. I love the scotch egg. The burgers were tasty and expertly prepared.

Google
One of the best happy hours in San Antonio $1 east coast oysters you can’t beat that. Burgers and beer selection is absolutely amazing.

Google
What an incredible find! THE most wonderful atmosphere created by a great staff . . . then there's the food - white bean and bacon fat dip may have changed my life! Actually, everything we ate was exceptional steak frites, oysters and I definitely want to try the burgers! Drinks are reasonable and well made, loved the little martini glasses. Lastly, the music is outstanding not too loud perfect volume and creates a wonderful vibe for a wide range of patrons. Double Standard is "our bar" when we're in SAT!

Google
Excellent martinis, good good, friendly bartenders. We actually stopped in on two of the 3 nights were visiting in SA, that’s how much we liked it. Thanks bunches and will return next time we’re hanging in the 210

Yelp
Classic modern full bar with seafood and common bistro bites. Their happy hour menu was the reason for my family's visit and certainly lived up to our hopeful expectations. Their dollar fifty easy coast oysters were a bargain! They are a bit on the smaller side but they come with horse radish, hot sauce, lemon, and other tangy toppings. We had ordered 30 for the table and a few other plates and drinks. For a starter I had their Paloma dressed with tajin and nice slice of grapefruit. It wasn't that strong but had nice bitters and subtle sweet hints. It was an easy start for a nice value of $7 for happy hour. Their Gold Rush cocktail was another zesty citrus strong cocktail i enjoyed. It was a bit more boozy and an enjoyable buzz. Their blackened chicken sandwich seemed dry by account of my partner and the burgers were certainly a savory salted meaty punch of a classic bar bite for me. Their fries also were excellent, plenty of them and well done served with ketchup. Overall we had an awesome time sharing the oysters, indulging in our burgers, and going a few rounds at the bar. The restaurant was kept neat and serviced by a helpful efficient team. I'd certainly return!

Yelp
Went here for lunch since my wife had jury duty! We got 12 oysters (happy hour price of $1.50 each!) and split a fish and chips plate with a water and Jarritos soda. If I wasn't on the clock, I may have gotten a cocktail because they sounded delicious. Menu pics only this review! The interior is very nice. I wouldn't mind some of those light fixtures in my home! Lots of paintings above the windows. Classy vibes. We sat at the bar where the bartender and bar back were fairly attentive. Our oysters came out and we dressed them up with the works. Hot sauce, lemon, cocktail sauce, and mignonette sauce. Absolutely delicious. The fish and chips came out as we were finishing the oysters. The pieces of fish looked big!...but when we started cutting pieces off, we realized it was a loooot of breading. At least 25% was breading maybe a bit more. The chips (fries) that came with it fared little better. The potatoes were cut with skin on (not a problem), but it felt like they cut up the potato and only gave us the outer diameter; a LOT of the fries were skin with very little potato. I wish I had remembered to take a picture so you could see for yourselves. Come for the oysters, but maybe skip the fish & chips. I would love to come after work and try their cocktails!

Yelp
During our shenanigans, my friend & I decided to pop in for a drink. The bar is lovely, and the décor is quirky - decorative plates glued to the walls, unique murals in the bathroom, a skeleton in a phone booth, outlandish pictures & other oddities throughout. You order at the bar and grab a seat. The communal tables encourage you to converse with a stranger. The cocktail menu features a mixture of Southern classics and Tiki libations. I was impressed to see a Crusta on the menu and requested it to be prepared the traditional way with Brandy. (You can have it with your spirit of choice.) My friend ordered an Old Fashioned, which was served in a chilled rocks glass. Both cocktails were expertly prepared and were perfect. . After our first drink we moved over to a table so we could watch the NCAA March Madness games. I noticed they had fried blue cheese olives on the menu and figured they would have them as a cocktail garnish too, so I asked my friend to order me a martini with blue cheese olives. LOL! I guess I was wrong because the martini was served with a twist, and the fried olives arrived a few minutes later. The martini was spot on and came with a sidecar on ice. (I wish every establishment served them this way.) The fried blue cheese olives were delicious, so it was a happy accident. We also ordered the oysters, which are a great deal during Happy Hour at $1.50 each. They were fresh & tasty. My friend and I enjoyed our visit and came back the next day. This time I ordered the martini without the olives and both times the bartenders were fantastic! *Happy Hour Daily 11:30 am - 6 pm *Unisex bathrooms

Yelp
We stopped here for a drink as the name was fantastic and had a few eye catching decorations. We had already eaten so this was just to check out the drinks and vibe. We sat at the bar, though there were several tables of various size to choose from as well. The bartender we got was fast, friendly (a rare thing this trip) and suggested happy hour which is something like half the day long which is great. I tried a green tea cocktail. Only had this as a shot before and it was pretty good. The place has some cool décor and fun stuff around like a skeleton in a phone booth and random and varied decorative plates and porcelain figures. I didn't use the bathroom but they have two UNISEX bathrooms. Place was clean and chill. Nice place to hang out. But what did Shana think? Lets See... SHANA SAYS: Fun Spot! Creative cocktail menu! Would have loved to have tried the food menu if we hadn't just had a huge lunch. LOL Super cute and casual vibe. Lots of fun glassware, bottles, and porcelain plates everywhere as decoration. Ample seating and a great location downtown by venues and hotels, etc. Great happy hour prices (see pictures) and extended hours. Will definitely make sure to stop back next time we're in San Antonio!!

Yelp
Nice spot, with good food and a happy hour from open to 6 pm daily! Happy hour included $2 draft beer, $1.50 oysters, $5 cocktails. The fries were delicious and we got some shrimp cocktail also. Nice interior with plants, bar seating, tables and some lounge chairs. It's in downtown so I'm not sure what the parking situation is; we walked from the district clerk finance office a couple of blocks away and parked at a surface lot for $10.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick happy hour drink with some coworkers. The bar was clean and ordering was easy. I got their happy hour paloma which was good and boozy. There's plenty of seating inside. Great place to catch up with friends or just enjoy an afternoon by yourself. Did not try any food this time but hopefully next time.

Yelp
Went here for a late night burger and drink. Pretty busy as fiesta was going on. Burger was solid, got the DP burger which was beer cheese onions and maybe bacon. The standard burger was a little more flavorful imo. Fries were excellent. Just got a beer, seemed to have a good selection. Bartenders were nice.

Yelp
This place is now one of my favorites for some small bites, good drinks, and some oysters. It's got this old-time bar feel with a dark interior and a nice wooden bar. It's also nice and chilly inside as well. The drinks were great, with great prices and specials (Happy Hour I mean). The oysters were super great too which I love some good oysters. There is not much else to say. The staff was great, it was not very busy on Sunday when we went in. This is exactly my jam and I will go back when I am in SA.
google avatar

Yelp
You order at the bar, the AC was blasting and there's a great HH menu every day. We got east coast oysters which hit the spot. The bartenders were great. I got a Femme Fatale, a tropical rum based drink which was quite tasty. We also had green tea shots, and a green tea cocktails and an order of crispy french fries. The fries were hot and fresh served with ketchup and a garlic aioli. Everything was great, chill vibes, good drinks, would return.

Yelp
Superb spot with very slow service. The oysters were delicious and the staff lovely. There were only two people working so the only issue is how slow it was. We popped in here on recommendation of a server from another restaurant. We were not mad at this spot. So good!

Yelp
Always a good time at the Double Standard. Food is always decent to good, prices are great. It can get crowded and the wait for a drink can be excessive. There is no table service, all food and drinks are ordered at the bar. The Buck a Shuck east coast oysters never disappoint. Last night, my wife and I did eight dozen. This is definitely on our rotation!
google avatar

Katherine R.

Yelp
DS is that B! Best bar in downtown area in my opinion it just always hits the spot! Lots of core memories made and love how double is the standard which makes it all worth it in the end! Don't get me started on the fires with the aioli BROO mouthgasm! They have a solid grilled chicken sandwich too! Service is always great ambiance amazing and will definitely keep coming!
google avatar

Nelly L.

Yelp
Service is always good here. The food is good too. I will say I've been here a handful of times and they tend to be heavy on the salt. But what's funny about it, it's either sides or main dish not everything. And not always but doesn't stop me from coming back.

Yelp
Visited this establishment on a date night with the husband. The atmosphere was perfect for what I was looking for. Dim lighting, good bartenders and great food. We had amazing drinks. The steak was perfectly cooked to a medium and the oysters were deliciously satisfying! I would definitely recommend this for a night out with friends or a new date night spot at least once.
google avatar

Yelp
Showed up for happy hour! Had oysters, wings, bean dip and fries. Very good food! Good happy hour ambience!
google avatar

Mari R.

Yelp
First time here but had a great time!! Bartenders and staff were great and attentive. Enjoyed happy hour and my oysters were the best!! I should have stayed on happy hour menu but this little chunks likes to eat so I ordered wings and a drink outside of the Hh menu so my bill was a little steep but I'm definitely coming back. Ambience and everything was very enjoyable. I will be a regular guest

Yelp
Came in for happy hour on a Sunday around 12pm. It wasn't too busy and my husband and I sat at the bar. The bartender was very friendly and service was quick. We got 2 dozen east coast oysters that were $1 each during happy hour, an order of crispy fries, 4 beers (happy hour beers are 8oz each), and a cocktail. The oysters were just okay - east coast oysters were expectedly small. The "crispy" fries were not crispy, but they were still pretty good. The decor was nice and very classy, although the vibe is casual. Overall, we enjoyed our time.
google avatar

Yelp
Great spot for a decent burger and fries that is fresh, cooked to perfection with a tasty cocktail prior to, or after a show. I always take my friends before a show at the Aztec or Majestic. Service is fast (order at the bar) then take a seat. The menu is limited. Some sandwiches, the D.S. burger, and oysters. Preview before you go.

Yelp
I've been to Double Standard several times, and I always have a great time. The service at the bar is excellent, and the staff are friendly and efficient. The music is really cool, featuring artists like Boz Scaggs and CCR. It's a bit loud but still at a level where you could have a conversation. If you're looking for a bite to eat, try the DS Burger, which is $16. It's really good--the meat mixture makes it juicy and flavorful. The Dijon and cheese spread is nice, but it would be better with some tomatoes or lettuce added to it. Happy hour ends at 6 pm, and it gets CRAZY busy around that time on most days. During happy hour, beers are $2 for 8 ounce pours, with a varying selection that might include High Wheel Betty Kolsch or Modelo. Regular prices are $14 for a big schooner of beer or a martini. Overall, a great place to hang out, enjoy good music, and grab a drink.

Yelp
Wile in San Antonio, my wife and I wanted to go for a drink. We found ourselves at the Double Standard. Pretty good craft cocktails and craft beers. The appetizers are pretty good. The staff is busy, so they are not too friendly, unless they know you. Doesn't take away from the taste of the drinks or the appetizers. This place is very modern and you kinda get the LA vibe. LA vibe and LA prices can be expected. There are plenty of places around, this is an okay stop. If you miss it, no biggie. There are plenty more. Do you skip it? Id say "No". Give it a try and maybe your experience will be different.
google avatar

Steve G.

Yelp
This is a great place. I was here a few times before I realize that the name of the place is based on the fact that they use a double shot in every drink drink! The only use the big side of the jigger. Actually drinks and really good food. I recommend the oysters which are delicious and they have great happy hour!
google avatar

Yelp
Wow, wow wow! If I could give Double Standard 10 stars I definitely would. A little backstory, my husband and I had just finished the new exhibit at Hopscotch and were looking to grab some food. It was 9pm on a Thursday, which means that almost every restaurant in downtown is closed. However, we found Double Standard on Yelp and noticed they were open late. The decoration of the place is super cool, and has a very unique vibe which you can't find anywhere else in San Antonio. We decided to sit at the bar so we could order a little faster and get our food asap. They have a full bar with pretty much everything and anything you can imagine. Their menu is a little smaller, but in my opinion that means they are confident of the dishes they make. For food, my husband ordered one of the po-boys and I had the burger. You guys, this burger was LIFE CHANGING! It is by far the most amazing burger I've had in my life! I will no longer be able to eat another burger without comparing it to the one I had at Double Standard. I loved how it was seasoned just right, and it was pink in the center. Also, it had this white sauce that was just amazing! Frankly, I can not wait to come back and order that burger again. I cannot wait to come back and have the best burger in town...probably the country!
google avatar

Krystal B.

Yelp
Stopped in here for HH because I saw the sign while driving. I stayed in a hotel near by and walked right over after work. The staff wasn't the most friendly, but they offered a generous pour and the HH oysters were decent. I gathered the vibe of they leave you alone, unless you ask for something. It's not the southern hospitality I'm used to, but at least they weren't rude lol
google avatar

Amanda Z.

Yelp
It's a laid back bar downtown. Nothing is crazy special about it, & You have to park in parking garage. Burger was phenomenal and drinks are well crafted! To note - you sit anywhere and have to order at the bar!!
google avatar

Keisha R.

Yelp
Limited menu but they do it well. Mainly burgers, sandwiches, and oysters. Inventive cocktails. Service is decent. The vibe is chill with food happy hour specials. They validate parking if you park in the attached garage, although sometimes I've had issues with using the validation. Good food. Good drinks. Bartenders could be a bit nicer and friendlier. Sometimes they stand there, not busy and wait for you to approach them and don't say much to you as they make your drink or take your order. They are people of a few words. But overall, I'd go back.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped in for a bit and drink. We got the Monday special, shaved prime rib sandwich and fries only $10!!! It was delicious and such a bargain! All wells ($6) come with a double shot hence " double standard" Large seating area. Servers were extremely helpful offering suggestions. I am sure we will be back
google avatar

Judy B.

Yelp
Stopped in during the pre-rodeo celebration in town. It was crazy inside and out. Good bartenders. Great margaritas. The wife had a dozen oysters since they were $1/each during happy hour. We also got some very good crispy fries. We should have gotten more to eat but met some new friends and went to the next stop. We will be back. Nice outside patio, long bar and lots of tables.
google avatar

Ruthie W.

Yelp
We had a light dinner tonight @doublestandardsatx. We caught happy hour just in time. Lemonade for Dad and a couple of well drinks for hubby and me. 2 dozen East Coast Oysters at $1 a piece! Hubby did try the Fried Oyster Po'boy, which came with great potato chips. I'm guessing they're house made. We also had the Extra Crispy French Fries. Love the garlic aioli! I couldn't stop dipping me fries! Validated parking next door so great all around.
google avatar

Denise C.

Yelp
Great location and it's a chill atmosphere without being pretentious. Not our first time there and in the past their martinis have been legit. Unfortunately, seems like they are reaching as of late. We went out for a lunch date for our anniversary and my Mass-hole husband and anted oysters. We remembered DS had them so we trekked downtown. Well, first flag was their sign "East Coast Oysters" for $1. I know enough to know that's well under cost but we went in. Waited at the bar for 15-20 before any one of the 4 people behind bar approached us. When we asked where oysters were from, we were told "east coast". Well, I was out but the Mass-Hole went in, mainly to prove they weren't legit. Bartender had no clue of name or origin. Now listen...that's a red flag that I'm not leaving the facilities for a solid day or two. Oysters were dead, dry. Always ask for the shellfish tag.
google avatar

Werra G.

Yelp
The best place to grab a drink any time of day! Love it here ! They have the most amazing bartenders!!
google avatar

Chelby M.

Yelp
Why not just rename this place 'The Boys' Club' and save everyone the trouble? I waited over five minutes to order a drink--after watching a parade of men get served without issue--just to be blatantly ignored by the bartender. When I finally tried again (you know, for myself and my husband, because apparently, women don't drink alone), I was dismissed again. The bar hand was polite, so at least someone passed Charm School. But here's the kicker: my husband had to step in, and suddenly, we're 'cut off.' Funny how that works--bet he wouldn't have been if I wasn't in the equation. So, if you're in the market for a testosterone-fueled social hour, look no further--this place is the absolute pinnacle of a good old-fashioned cock fest.
google avatar

Mari G.

Yelp
When you're downtown and want to unwind, this is a place to go. The food is always delicious. My go to are the oysters on a half shell. You have to order at the bar so depending how busy it is can be slow, but it's always very good. I love the decor in here. It's a little bit of a throwback. Their drinks are always good.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been here a couple times for drinks when visiting town, but my visit tonight was nothing short of frustrating. I arrived around 9:50 PM after a very long work day, ordered an Old Fashioned and a burger, and opened a tab. My burger and drink arrived, but that was the last time I was acknowledged. Despite being seated at the bar and still eating my food, my drink sat empty for 40 minutes. I watched the bartenders chat with what appeared to be regulars while I was essentially ignored (on what I'd consider a slow night, there weren't many people there) One bartender even stood directly in front of my barstool at the POS for several minutes without so much as a glance in my direction. Not once did anyone check in or offer to refill my drink. It wasn't until 10:57, almost an hour after my food arrived, that I managed to get the attention of a bartender just to close out. I travel for work and frequent the hotel next door, and am currently here planning a move to the area. After this experience, I would not consider returning or recommending it to anyone. Service here is completely lacking, and the indifference shown to customers is inexcusable.

Tai S.

Yelp
Service is terrible. I had two ask three times for my close out ticket. They pick and choose who they serve .
google avatar

Apryll A.

Yelp
This has become our go to..... When we are in Downtown San Antonio. This place has a very comfy vibe. The bartenders are great and attentive, food is delicious and affordable. Drinks are double that's standard. Happy Hour runs from open to 6 p.m. everyday. The east coast oysters for happy hour is a favorite of mine. So roll up to the bar and enjoy the expierence of the Double Standard vibe, we love it.
google avatar

Benjamin Y.

Yelp
Worst possible service you can ask for. Bartenders forget your order or when you're ready to order a drink, they straight up ignore. Avoid this place. Thank me later.
google avatar

Yelp
What a perfect location downtown SA for a quick lunch time cocktail and quick bit...the ambiance was hip and inviting with beautiful SoHo decor...we will be back for sure

Yelp
Food and cocktail were delicious! Waiters did an excellent job and the bar was very lively.
google avatar

Wilber S.

Yelp
It was a very laid back bar! It's a cool place to go with friends and just have a good conversation while having some drinks and food! The service was very well and the steak was also very delicious, cooked just how we ordered it.

Michelle M.

Yelp
Please go during happy hour so that you're not as disappointed when you receive a flat Ziegenbock and minuscule oysters. My biggest regret in life is walking into this establishment.
google avatar

Patricia M.

Yelp
Meh, drinks only here! No wait staff you literally have to go to the bar in the front to order drinks or food. Bus boys & bartenders run this establishment. Music is very loud & current. Music geared for younger crowd. Decor having an identity crisis, mixed decor. Easy coast oysters, tiny! That's what she said! Wow! Wedge salad served on a dessert plate, tiny! Drinks like my whisky sour were pretty decent. Asked for water, room temperature water, yuck! Busy, busy, not enough seating during happy hour. Skip it!

LaRhea B.

Yelp
Josh and Jesse the 2 bartenders were amazing on Memorial Day!!! They went above and beyond to ensure that our visit to Double Standard was a memorable one!!! Awesome Food & Awesome Service!!!
google avatar

Doretta W.

Yelp
I was not sure what to expect .. I was pleasantly surprised with the mix of New York diner and subway flair as you walk in and then backed with an English pub decor the further you walk in. Crazy mix that married perfectly here. What a great addition to downtown San Antonio. Order at the bar. Quite a few unique apps ... I went for the white bean and bacon fat dip. Personally, I think I had imagined a more bacon forward flavor... but it was very good!! My drink was a hurricane...WOW! It was huge and strong. Served in a traditional glass. Love the pellets ice. Topped with an orange slice, cherry, and umbrella. The service was very fast but a little stand offish, and the place was packed.
google avatar

Ashley R.

Yelp
Nice spot, friendly bartenders and good drinks. We sat at the bar and they have fresh ingredients displayed. Will def go back.
google avatar

Roel Kristy V.

Yelp
Aye Oh my....I think I found my new favorite place! Absolutely love the vibe! Incredible happy hour from open till 6pm! All drinks are doubles (!) Well-appointed beer selections and amazing cocktails. I love that the food menu is smallish and manageable. I'm impressed by doing a fewer things extremely well rather than a ton of things mediocre. Already looking forward to going back.

Michael C.

Yelp
Ordering was little slow because just order at the bar but the food and drinks were great and once ordered came out rather quickly. Cool atmosphere but tables could have been cleaner. Amazing liquor selection!
google avatar

Yelp
our hotel had a big group check out pretty late and we needed somewhere to kill some time, so double standard it was! Their patio is tiny however, it was very welcoming to our small dog. We arrived just in time for happy hour, which included one dollar oysters. So obviously we needed to get that! They were small but delicious. hubs had two local IPAs draft, which were amazing. I had two cocktails (Saturn & a seasonal Christmas cocktail) that, while delicious, both had very similar taste. Not sure if it was just the mixing. anyway, the place isn't anything particularly special to write home about, but the cocktail and food prices are pretty decent!

Rachel R.

Yelp
YESSS! Immediately come visit everything about this place is great and warming love it
