I had high expectations for the pizza based on the reviews and the smell, but it was mediocre at best. There was also a very long wait for the stuff I order and the service was ok. The wings were super greasy, the cheesy bread was gross & the pizza was basic.

Google
Super pumped we finally tried Dough Co Pizza. Excellent vegan options- we recommend the taco pizza. We also enjoyed the vegan cheese bread and the vegan grinder sandwich was insane (in a good way). We will absolutely eat here again.

I have mostly done take out here and wanted to check in with a review. The first time I got a pizza it was not great- just a basic pepperoni but it was lacking sauce and kind of dry. I said I need to give this another try so tried the Italian Sandwich- its excellent a lot of been a great roll and tastes terrific. I gave the pizza another several tries and am happy to say I think the first time may have been a one-off because every other pizza has been flavorful with plenty of sauce and a great crust. Well worth a visit.

EDIT: Dough Co. has absolutely wonderful customer service! After my review posted, I was contacted by Evan who asked for some additional information about my experience. I provided that information and Evan was very understanding and he made things right with us. In all honesty, my review was written and posted in frustration with the situation and I do wish that I had waited to post a review after we had tried the pizza because the review would have been much better. We loved the pizza and the bread bites with cheese! The taco pizza is amazing and we will definitely be ordering again! The great customer service has turned things around for us and we will be returning customers! Give this place a try, you will love the food! (I ordered two pizzas and breadstick bites tonight. $60 spent and was told 30-45 minutes for our order. My husband went to pick the order up and total time he waited including the 30-45 minutes was 1 hour and 10 minutes because as he was waiting there they placed our order on top of the over for 15 minutes before telling him the order was done. First time going there and probably last time too.)

11/04/2024 This awesome pizza place gave out free slices to people waiting in line to VOTE!! Thank you, it was a long wait & raining day!! APPRECIATED IT! 🫶🏼

Google
Dough Co is a 10/10 go-to in the Drake Neighborhood. Great pizza - generous slices - awesome local beer rotations. Trivia on Wednesday nights is a fun time! Outstanding value for lunch and catering CAN NOT be beat - my favorite way to feed a crowd! The cinnamon bites are crave worthy, too.

Had a negative experience with a past employee at this location which kept me from eating here. Funny...because it was my first time stepping into a Dough Co Pizza establishment....and because of the rude guy at the counter...I didn't even eat the food. LoL My wife and I stopped in tonight and had pizza and it was great! Everyone was super polite and all went smoothly. I wrote the review though because the Assistant Manager was who we were most impressed by. Very polite and at any given moment was either in the kitchen helping the staff....or out on the floor asking people if their food was good...and asking if they needed anything. Never missed a beat and always had a smile on. 👍 We hear all the negatives when we are at restaurants and businesses....but not enough if the positives. SOUL....you are a diamond in the rough in an ever changing industry. Stay golden. 😊 (PS. I gave 5 stars on everything. The only reason I gave the service...4 stars is because although it was busy... we felt like the person at the counter should've offered us our salad to tide us over while we waited for our pizza. I had to go up and ask for it after about 30 minutes.) 😁

Google
2nd time having Dough Co. 1st time dining in. The staff are great and we lucked out getting the corner booth for our family of five. The pizza was good, we got the jalapeno popper pizza. We wont get it again, because i know they have better pies. Pretty pricey and there is a lot of dough (toppings and cheese stop about 2 inches from the edge). Staff are very nice and friendly. There are games for the kids to play which is nice. They have a decent selection of beer on tap which is great! We'll be back someday im sure.

Yelp
Super nice staff made us a great supreme pizza with vegan cheese. Good pie and great service. Delish!

Yelp
Okay this place is a special place but I definitely have mixed feelings on it. Firstly, the pizza is fantastic! Some of the best you'll find in Iowa. That makes a lot of the negatives that I'm about to say get dismissed. They have a decent size indoor seating area and a small patio. This place is located right down the street from Drake University. So there is a high chance you'll be surrounded by college students when visiting here. This was the first place in Iowa though where I didn't feel a warm welcome from the staff. Rather I felt like I was wasting their time and they didn't want to help answer any questions I had. The staff was extremely rude to me and made me feel very uncomfortable while I waited for my food. The biggest problem I had was the fact that I ordered 2 slices of pizza and it took 35 minutes to get the slices. I get it, they probably wanted to make a fresh pizza. Cool I respect that! However 35 minutes is a bit much for any pizza. Then I receive the slice and you have a triangle pizza slice cut into potential squares. What kind of person cuts a traditional New York pizza slice into squares after it was already a triangle?! It was extremely frustrating on many levels because the joy of a New York slice is having that experience of picking up the whole slice. Rather than having to pick up 6-7 smaller slices. Again what redeems all the bad is this is a phenomenal pizza. However, they really need to work on the timing of the pizza, customer service, and please don't cut a pizza slice into squares unless you're making a Detroit style pizza. I would visit this place again because of the good pizza. However I'll go in now knowing the rest is not great.

Yelp
On the dave portnoy scale I give this a 7.2 the undercarriage is a little soft but I love this pizza. If the crust was a tad crispier it would be higher but I love this pizza

Brock W.

Yelp
Get the wings. Period. They're fantastic. Great NY style pizza with plenty of options for toppings. Close by Drake University. Nice atmosphere for a relaxing sports and drinks kind of day provided by excellent staff!

Yelp
I love the thin crust and that they have impossible sausage! Not many pizza places offer this. I carried out each time but inside it is casual and comfortable.
google avatar

Yelp
This pizza place was within walking distance from our hotel, the Home2 Suites by Hilton. I really enjoyed the pie. It was a NY style thin crust with plain tomato sauce. It was a busy restaurant but there was ample seating.
google avatar

Aaron R.

Yelp
Great tasting pizza. We love all the vegetation and vegan options. Ordering online was easy, and pickup was a breeze. The only weirdness was that the slices were cut into squares. But I was forewarned about that, so no biggie. We'll be back, probably today.

Yelp
Very nice and friendly staff. They have many different pizza topping options as well as if you just want a slice (which is still HUGE) or if you want to order a whole pizza with varying sizes. The bread bites were delicious. I got a slice of the hawaiiowan, pepperoni and mushroom, pepperoni and olive, and the taco pizza. All were amazing and each slice filled us up. They also have different sides and deserts which is nice to pick from. The only reason I'm giving a 4 is because I feel like it wasn't very busy when we went but we had to keep asking about our orders and checking on things and items that weren't ours were being brought to us. There was just a lot of stuff going on for not that many customers being in there. Of course that was from why I could see, I couldn't see what was going on in the back. The inside is very nice and inviting and has many places to sit and a self serve station with plates, forks and cheese/pepper flakes for on top of the pizza

David K.

Yelp
The pizza here is simply amazing! We were visiting from Austin, TX and honestly wish I could take back a year supply of pizza from Dough Co. The flavor of the dough it's not something I usually consider with pizza as the dough/crust is usually texture based as the star of any pizza tends to be that toppings, including the sauce. At Dough CO, there is something really unique about their crust and I should clarify not just the outer crust, but the entire dough of the pizza. I don't know what the flavor is, but it's unique and it's absolutely delicious and every bite in addition as necessary for any good pizza sauce is extraordinary and the toppings were of the highest quality. Pizza is my favorite food so eaten so many different pizzas around the world and I must say that Dough Co is in my top five pizzas of my lifetime. If I lived in Des Moines, this would be the only place I would get my pizzas from.

Yelp
Fresh and pretty accurate "New York style"--especially for Iowa (says my New Yorker husband who's lived in IA for 38 years). Nice outdoor seating, and good dining room. The fresh baked cookies looked awesome--I need to get one of those next time!

Yelp
Dismal pizza. Undercooked, doughy, no redeeming properties at all. The people giving this sad place high ratings are typical clueless Midwesterners with no ability to discern what good pizza actually is. The name "Dough Co" is spot on since what you get is undercooked dough (bread basically). Do better. Learn how to make traditional pizza!

Yelp
I ordered a 3 topping 14" pizza for $20 which I thought was insane but I'd heard good things about this place & I wanted to try it. The website said that the 14" would feed 2 - 3 people so I assumed that it would be ok for my friend & me. The first thing that I noticed was that the box seemed small (the interior measured only 14 ¼"). The edges of the pie came nowhere near the edges of the box. The second thing was that the chopped green peppers were obviously dumped in the center after the pie had cooked. It tasted pretty good but only gave us four smallish sized pieces. The next morning I took out my 13" pizza stone, put in the box, and snapped this photo. The actual boxed pizza had far more space around it. It could not have been more than 11"- 12" if that. That fact that they only use a box that would only leave " space around a real 14" pizza indicates to me that they either used the wrong box or they know damn well that their 14" pie is not actually the size that they claim it to be. I don't like being SCAMMED! I'll definitely be taking my pizza dollars elsewhere in future.

Yelp
Came here to grab a pizza for the family party. Decided to get the Hog Wild and ultimately decided on the 26" pizza. We had many friends and kids over so why not. When placing the order the host reminded us about how big it was going to be and we decided that was going to be fine. Boy was the pizza huge! The box could barely fit through the door and thank goodness we had borrowed the van because I'm not sure it would fit into a normal sedan. Anyway, the pizza tasted fantastic, the pizza was thin and the sauce and flavors were just absorbed by the dough. Very flavorful, the pizza was cooked just right and everyone was able to pick at a slice. The pizza was cut into squares making it much more shareable. The whole thing took 45 minutes to cook, and I'm not sure if it's always that long to bake or they were just extra busy the day we went in.

Scott R.

Yelp
I ordered online for pick up a 14" 3 topping pizza. It was ready on time. However, the pizza was poorly made. A 1-1/4" of the perimeter was naked bear and the 3 ingredients were clumped mainly in the center (not evenly distributed). And the slices were not cut ; you could see the score lines, but I had to cut the slices myself. I just moved into the neighborhood so I thought I would give Dough Co. a try and save the delivery charges of other establishments. I should have ordered from the other places.
google avatar

Ashlee C.

Yelp
Unfortunately this is the second time I have ordered a single slice of pizza and the dough was not cooked through completely. It's really disappointing. I know it's suppose to be speedy.
google avatar

Luke M.

Yelp
This huge slice of pizza was 7.25$. The southsider has salami, pepperoni, roasted red peppers, banana peppers. The salt of the salami pairs wonderfully with the banana peppers. Crispy crust and a good sauce make this pizza a delight. 2nd pic is a to go order that was heading out the door. Had to snap a pic as it was a massive 26in.

Yelp
Very good pizza right off the campus of Drake college. We had a party of 6 and everyone loved the pizza. Servers are indifferent but efficient. The place had the feel of a college pizza bar....welcoming, and comfortable.

Yelp
Visited the new Ankeny location for Dough Co this weekend! Restaurant is brand new not sure when they officially opened but the staff was friendly and the service was excellent. You order at the counter and pay type of situation. I instantly loved that you could order any pizza by the slice if you wanted. The menu has a good variety of pizza, salads and sandwiches too! Something for everyone. We ordered a 20" pizza which fed 3 kids and 1 adult, was 8 large slices! The pizza slices are huge which was great. And I ordered myself a slice of the Giovanni because it looked delish and I wanted to try it out- was really good. The crust was awesome, thin but no to thin and crispy. We loved the over sized booth in the back - big enough to fit our crew with kids. We really enjoyed this place for our first time, we will be back! So nice having fun new places open in the district!

Yelp
Slices are huge! Watch out! Pizza came out hot and tasty. Crust was thin and crispy and toppings were excellent. We had the hog wild with all the meats. My 12 year old dominated two slices of cheese even though each was the size of your head. Everyone was nice and helpful. It's a cool spot with a patio. Highly recommend if you're in the area.

James S.

Yelp
Very tasty pizza right on the main strip in downtown. Just paid and picked up, didn't dine in
google avatar

Miguel D.

Yelp
Don't bother eating here. We waited an hour for a medium supreme and watched as groups after us get served before us. No update and no apology. Terrible service.

Alicia H.

Yelp
Love dough co. Some of the best pizza in town. The crust is perfectly thin and crisp. Love that you can get individual (huge) slices so I can get what I want and my partner can get something different. The vibe is nice if you're looking for a bright, clean space to watch sports and have a slice. Service isn't always the fastest, but employees are nice and they can't help the place is always busy. It speaks to the superior product. The ranch here is amazing. Definitely pay extra to get a big cup of it.

Yelp
Their vegan supreme pizza is what dreams of made of - and immediately saved me from severe hanger after a looong day of work meetings. The crust is perfectly chewy and crunchy & they were generous with their vegan cheese and impossible sausage toppings. I so appreciate having plant based options especially when on the road - and not walking away feeling like I had to sacrifice flavor or fullness. My colleague and I devoured the majority of an 18" pie in about 15 minutes. Service was also quick and friendly, and the restaurant was filled with college kids, young kids, grandparents and everyone in between. Great vibes, will return on my next trip to Des Moines!
google avatar

Cam H.

Yelp
The pizza is at least a 7/10 on the Pizza greatness scale. The sauce is top notch. I prefer a crispier bottom crust. If the bottom crust had been crispier with a little less bend, I would give it a 8.5/10. I had the Wild Hog and added green peppers and red onions. Staff was friendly and the wait was not too long for made to order pizza.

Yelp
Alright, seriously a great place to get fire roasted pizza. The dough fits their name, the dough for the crust was crispy on the outside where you can hear the crack, but soft and chewy inside! We got the Big Moe and the Giovanni! Totally worth it! The Big Moe is sweet and savory with a bit of tang and kick to it! The Giovanni is nice and fresh tasting even with the extra oil from the pesto, it's still a must to try! With both types the chicken is seriously perfectly cooked and from the taste and look it's not the cheap frozen "grilled" chicken. Instead the chicken tastes fresh, is tender, and juicy. The breadsticks are good too! The marinara sauce is tangy and suits the garlicky bread sticks. Would definitely recommend! Also! They have all sizes and a huge jumbo size worth for parties!

Yelp
Impressive! Visited on a Tuesday night with the fam. My first visit was a take out order and was disappointing. Our second try was a dine in outing and it was very nice and changed my whole opinion. I recommend dine-in instead of getting to-go. Ordered regular crust vegan pizza with half vegan sausage and mushrooms, vegan cheesy breadsticks, regular crust traditional pepperoni pizza and regular cheesy breadsticks. Total was $42.xx Everything was delicious!!!! The cheesy bread is so close to Pizza Hut cheese bread and I couldn't believe what I was eating!!! Dining during COVID19: We were the only family of 6 there. One other couple dining outside nearby. Dining outside was plentiful. Inside dining is also available. Entering the shop, masks are required for patrons. 3 out of 4 employees were properly masked. Tables were decently spaced apart. Employee disinfected door handles and tables. Service was very nice. Pizzas and breadsticks came out quickly 15-20 minutes. Great vegan/plant based options. I was surprised by how many things could be converted to a vegan option. Located in the old Planet Sub location near Drake campus. Parking found in back (south end of building) hard to find parking if full. I recommend Dough Co for plant based and non plant pizza lovers!

Yelp
The pizza was good....when we finally got it...an hour and a half after we ordered. The place was not busy when we arrived but we soon noticed dozens of pizzas continually going out for delivery. Unfortunately the delivery orders took presentence over dine in customers. Had we not already paid for the pizza when we arrived....we definitely would have told them to forget about it and left. Too bad. I really wanted to love this place.

Yelp
Located in the heart of the Drake neighborhood, Dough Co is considered one of the hot new restaurants in Des Moines. It's a laid-back place with decent, but not great service. Hopefully that will improve as the staff gets more into a rhythm. We got two small pizzas and were impressed with the flavor, particularly the flavor of the sauce. I wish their crust was a little softer, but I understand that some people really like that crunchy style. My only real issue with the place is price. It was $56 for two of their smallest-sized pizzas, two sodas, and a side salad. Ouch.
google avatar

Jeff L.

Yelp
Got Delivery to our hotel downtown. Arrived when they said, and was hot. We got the supreme pizza. All the toppings were fresh and flavorful. I'm not a huge fan of thin crust but their dough had that soft with a crisp greatness. Glad we tried and if back in Des Moines will eat again.

Yelp
This place is amazing! We left the Iowa State Fair and wanted a quick bite before our flight home - convenient to both, and easy street-side parking. Everyone was so nice, The pizza was great, we enjoyed the music (Pete Seeger!) and we watched the Olympics on one of their TVs. Then our flight was delayed - they said "stay as long as you like" and we did! Would heartily recommend! BTW-I never leave reviews so you can trust this one.

Yelp
This place must hire young kids that have no social skills but only holding their phones to their faces. Called them to ask about some specials they had, whoever answered didn't even say hello but then handed the phone over to some guy who put me on a "brief hold" as he called it for 8 minutes. Then a young female gets on the phone sounding disgusted and uncertain of herself when I presented my question. The tone of voice was not acceptable for customer service, and I sure wouldn't want to order my food from here. Maybe they'll end up like Pasanenos, I'll order my food from businesses that care.

Yelp
Ordered 2 pizzas and 3 Cokes to be delivered on Friday night. The pizzas were delivered 15 minutes earlier than expected but the driver forgot the Cokes. She said she'd be back. An hour later still no Cokes so I call. The manager offered to refund everything but then said, "if you want pizzas on a Friday or Saturday night maybe order from someone else if you want it on time because we are very busy." I was not upset about the delivery time but rather the fact that I ate pizza with nothing to drink and 90 minutes later still no Cokes. After being called unreasonable I let him have it. Never did receive the Cokes or a refund. Horrible service and average pizza at best. Worst "brick oven" pizza I've ever had.
google avatar

Nerm P.

Yelp
Pizza was delicious. Wings hot and salty. Sandwich has tons of meat and cheese. Will definitely be going back!
google avatar

Jordan V.

Yelp
The food was very good. The kitchen staff were kicking some butt. Great music playing. Very cozy atmosphere! BUT... There's a reason there are only 3 stars. Whoever the hostess is 7/24/2023 at 7:26 pm is absolutely terrible. Short with customers, rude as hell, vape showing in her waistline. Like come on. I know it's probably some snobby college student, but she's terrible. Otherwise, my girlfriend and I loved it! The cheesy breadstick bites were outstanding. Great job kitchen side. Terrible job front of house side.
google avatar

Jillissa M.

Yelp
Slice of pizza just as big as a small pizza itself. Stop on in with your pub pass in hand and enjoy an adult beverage with some pizza!
google avatar

Will M.

Yelp
Best taco pizza I've ever had and I grew on the stuff. It's been the top of my food chain since 2002. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Charley B.

Yelp
This place is really nice. Friday night, not too busy, but still a good vibe. The 'slice' of pizza is ridiculously big. We also had a Giovanni, which was very fresh and light tasting. We've been there before, and we will go there again!
google avatar

Janine C.

Yelp
I have rarely walked into a business and felt so well taken care of. By the time I was done ordering at the counter, the lady helping me and I were laughing together. Then I got home with my take-out pizza and wow- what a delicious pizza. I highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Placed an order to go and it took awhile to get it. It was worth the wait. The sandwiches were delicious. Really like the bread.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place. I had heard good things about it and it's not far from where I live. My husband and I were in the mood for pizza and were looking forward to trying it out. However, when we went in, the person who helped us was kind of gruff and not very friendly. Not a great first impression. And after we placed our order, we waited and waited. After about 30 minutes, my husband went to check on our order. They hadn't even started it yet. There were so many carry-out orders before ours that they were busy making those first. I don't fault them for being busy. Kudos to them for having a lot of business. If I had known we were going to wait so long, I would have passed and gone somewhere else. I would have appreciated a heads-up from the employee that it would be awhile before our order was ready. We ended up waiting almost an hour for our pizza. We got a supreme pizza and it was pretty good but the sauce was pretty bland. It think it might have been just tomato sauce straight out of a can. I prefer my pizza sauce to be spicy with a lot of flavor. The crust was nice and crispy and the toppings were good quality. We just weren't that impressed. We've gotten better pizza at several other places and in a lot less time. If you come here on a Saturday night, expect a long wait. It might be better to call ahead and get carry-out so you can pick it up. We won't be back.

Helen H.

Yelp
Absolutely horrible customer service. We walked in and they were cash only and could not provide any change. I (a 26 year old female) was declined an alcoholic beverage because they thought my ID was fake. The manager then went on to call me questioning their decision suspicious behavior. The pizza was definitely not worth the insult. Pick any other place else to eat and spend your money.

Laurie V.

Yelp
Ny style I absolutely love NY style pizza, hard to find in Iowa. Also their brownies are unmatched

Jacob H.

Yelp
Great Pizza, Great Service, and a local place to support! Always get a slice if I'm on campus late
google avatar

Molaan M.

Yelp
Great pizza, sensible price. Would have to dig around to find something bad to say about this place after this first visit. The counter girl was quite friendly, the two pizza "slices" for the lunch special filled the entire pan, and the price revealed some empathy for the common man (and woman). I liked the atmosphere, friendly, comfortable, laid back.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
Went back today and ordered a supreme slice and a salad. Staff were all upbeat and super friendly, pizza was great and salad was fresh!
google avatar

Shannon J.

Yelp
Fool me once, Shame on you. Fool me twice. Shame on me. We have ordered twice from this place. The first time, they gave our order to the guy who was literally right in front of us in line. No refund...nothing other than having to wait another 30 min for them to remake our order. Pizza was just ok, but our cinnamon bread was burnt. The second time was tonight. We ordered through their online system which told us 45 minutes for pick up. We live fairly close, so waited the 45 min before we left. When we got to the store, our pizza hadn't even been cooked yet. All we got were excuses about them being busy with walk in traffic. We were asked to come back 20-30 minutes later. Their pizza is fairly good...but really?! I'll take my business elsewhere. The customer experience has been awful.

Yelp
I haven't been reviewing much this year, quarantine will do that to you. But I am trying to get caught up on the places we have either had delivery or take out from. This place popped up in my FB feed, and it looked interesting. So I asked them a question on their page. The main question, what sort of oven? Metal, stone, or conveyor? They replied; We cook all our pizzas in a beautiful Marsal stone oven! I do not consider pizza made in the conveyor belt ovens, or as I refer to them "Easy Bake Ovens" to be pizza at all. We had to try this. We got the South Sider pizza with pepperoni, salami, banana peppers, roasted red peppers, and provolone and oh my it was tasty. Nice bite to the pepperoni, the salami was a smoother taste that balanced that off nicely. And the banana peppers gave it a nice, sweet heat. I didn't notice the sauce, so that says that it fit with the toppings nicely. The crust is a little thicker than is my preference, I like a basic midwestern crunch to it, but this is very good. A bit thicker than NYC style, but not by much. We made a joke that we were testing this out for science. Initial samplings are very positive, but a wider sample size must be obtained to complete the testing. Yeah, we are definitely going back, and soon. Great pizza.

Josh O.

Yelp
The pizza is really good if you can get one. If it's any kind of normal time you probably won't get food. If online ordering isn't turned on just don't even try, you can call but their phone doesn't seem to work, or you can go in person and wait an hour+ it's just not worth it. If you do get an order in, it probably won't be ready until 20-30 minutes after it originally is supposed to. I really don't want to be so negative because the pizza is good, I really do enjoy it. I just don't understand how this place gets so backed up. I'm either waiting forever or just giving up and going somewhere else.
