"At her Northeast Salem bakery, Dough Hook, pastry chef Guadalupe Alvarez Aguilar fuses French culinary technique with the Mexican flavors of her heritage. The results are head-turners: vanilla bean conchas, hibiscus- and horchata-glazed brioche doughnuts, tall sugar-dusted “cruffins” (croissant muffins), and Salem’s best croissants. Monthly doughnut specials are popular, with flavors like mango lassi or tres leches cake with berries; be sure to place a pre-order if you’re driving from Portland, as they sell out pretty consistently." - Emily Teel

The fruit in the danish was not fresh considering the price charged. The chocolate had an unusual taste. The cost for two danish and two chocolate items was approximately $17. Customer service was lacking, and the staff member did not exhibit friendliness. Alternatives in the Salem area offer doughnuts at lower prices that are reported to have better taste and fresher fruit.

Google
I’ve seen multiple people claim other donuts shops are the best in town and I can say with pure honesty DOUGH HOOK IS THE BEST DONUTS IN TOWN!!! They are fluffy, FULL of FLAVOR, worth every penny!! Did I mention the amazing flavor creations!?? But you better hurry they sell out fast! (As they should) I have been here numerous times and have so many photos these are just a few of there decadent donuts!!!

My daughter heard about this place on Reddit so we had to go. We were going to be in Salem today so it was perfect timing. I had a Crème brûlée and she had a toasted coconut. This was my first time having a brûlée of any kind. For me it will be a one time thing, not a fan. But the filling was superb. The pastry was moist and almost fluffy. I can't wait to try others. My daughter said hers was the best she has ever had and agreed about the pastry. If you haven't tried it yet it is well worth it.

Google
Super disappointed Spent nearly $30 to pick up 6 donuts that were mostly incorrect and when I went back the response was “sometimes DoorDash has the wrong pictures”!!! Pretty much an “oh well” I am a paying customer… I visit my daughter only a couple times a month as I am busy, she lives in Salem and I work and live in Portland… I live to see her smile… To see the disappointment on her face before I had to rush to Portland was disheartening If there is a problem with DoorDash posting the two can hash it out… I mean for that damn price do the customer right, not leave them fuming over some crappy overpriced regular donuts!!!! Example of what was advertised and what we got

Google
Cramped counter ordering and no seating - all to go. With that being said, the donuts were huge and soooo good. Seems pricey but size and taste are worth it! No coffee service, but milk and juice options in coldbox.

Google
Dough Hook donuts are all amazing! Every flavor I've tried is the best example of that type I've ever encountered. Their dough is some how light and fluffy and dense all at the same time, and their vanilla custard filling is divine. And their personnel are very courteous! I have always been treated very well, whether in person, on the phone, or ordering online. Order your donuts early in the day to make sure they're still in stock, because everyone loves them!

Erin Cotrone

Google
These are by far the best donuts I have had. Sometimes people can overdo a donut and get too fancy. But this is not that. Every donut we have tried here has perfectly balanced flavors. These are fluffy and soft and huge. I find that when people start to make donuts too big they tend to get tough. But this is not the case here. If you haven't tried it, what are you waiting for? You won't go anywhere else!

Phillip Alter

Google
Wow! Amazing donuts here. They're huge, light and fluffy, delicious flavors...very impressed. They don't keep very well over time though. Get the Marionberry donut!

Ash T.

Yelp
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! Their vegan donuts are awesome, and they have really fun flavors!! If you go later, you might be limited on flavors, but everytime I've gone they still have had vegan donuts. On Saturdays, they have vegan conchas that are AMAZING. Fave place ever. I love you dough hook bake shop.

Nakeia D.

Yelp
This bake shop gets a high review because the donuts are fun, flavors are creative, and they taste good too! Baked onsite with a small but highly capable crew, the customer service didn't disappoint either. My cashier was Ángeles, and while I'm sure that's not all they do, they were patient and kind as I decided on my half dozen with a couple extras. (not pictured: crème brûlée and maple bacon donut, and the chocolate croissant, and berry danish) The lobby is small and can't fit many customers at once. Their menu board is cool, and jam packed with options, which is great but will take some time to get through unless you already know what you want. Outside the donut shop (it's in a tucked away mini strip mall area off Lancaster) the parking lot is unkempt which I didn't enjoy. Not sure if they offer premium coffee (espresso, latte, etc) but if they don't they should. One of their maple bacon donuts or chocolate croissants with a breve latte would SLAP! Hope this business is able to expand to a larger location with seating and a little ambiance. I can tell the business owner(s) have style. I'll definitely be going back!

Nicole P.

Yelp
Walking in, the shop is very small and seems crowded. It doesn't have much room to stand and wait if it would be busy, but it wasn't when I came in. They had a ton of choices on display but seemed to be out of multiple items including the choices on display...the doughnuts are huge but aren't doughy at all; it's almost more like just bread. $3 for 1 doughnut. It didn't satisfy my pregnancy craving for a doughnut and the service was a little rude unfortunately. I was excited to check this spot out but won't be returning. The doughnut tasted like bread not a doughnut to me.

Joseph M.

Yelp
They make gigantic donuts. Gigantic delicious dough nuts with a wide variety of flavors, and they do not disappoint. It's counter service and they are patient while you decide which tasty nugget to get! It's a take out place so no indoor seating, but they have baking items all over the store and the store looks and feels authentic.

Elisha J.

Yelp
Holy Giant Donuts! These donuts are not only the size of two regular donuts but they are so soft! I consider myself a donut connoisseur and these were truly delicious. The marionberry has true fruit flavor, the cronut was so crispy and soft, well made. The people were great and it was quick to get. Oh and the chocolate donuts, seriously, it was like a dark chocolate glaze, so rich, would absolutely get again and again.

Michelle B.

Yelp
Who knew that donuts could be THIS good? Not me. I love donuts, but this is a whole different level of yumminess that puts all other donuts to shame. From a massive selection, you get a massive donut, and the price isn't massive once you've tasted it. My first taste was a Boston Crème which was filled with what seemed like a magically bottomless well of perfect custard and topped with a perfect chocolate glaze. It's counter service, very friendly and even if there is a line it will go quickly.

Cheri B.

Yelp
Wow. The donuts were amazing. So happy to find this place. The Boston cream, so much filling. Not tooth cracking sweet either. Absolutely will be back.

C C.

Yelp
Holy deliciousness! I swear the doughnut was 3 pounds bc of all the perfect custard inside! Super sketchy area of town but so worth it!

Carol P.

Yelp
new fav~ marion berry, creme brulee, apple fritter, churro cronut. omg, soooo good. they even have the croffin (croissant muffin). soo good

Lindsey L.

Yelp
So impressed with their doughnuts! Plus so good and will come visit to buy some donuts!

Sherry L.

Yelp
These are the best donuts, and worth every penny! A little hidden ...just behind the Walgreens on Lancaster. Quick and friendly service!

Jessie R.

Yelp
This place is amazing. I stop in whenever I am in Salem and am always happy. I found my new favorite today-the strawberries and cream donut! I hope they make this a regular menu item. The crème brûlée is also fantastic and stuffed with vanilla bean pastry cream. I've had the crème brûlée at Blue Star donut up in Portland and this place is better!

Keely N.

Yelp
Love the vegan options. A nice citrus and tangy taste from the passion fruit with poppy seed VEGAN donut! The Apple fritter was slightly oily and greasy, but I appreciate the fruitier donuts. Many vegan options. Great texture. Not too sweet which I prefer. I wanna go on Saturday, because they sell VEGAN CONCHAS.

Asher J.

Yelp
I am in love at first bite. Had two crème brûlée donuts back to back because it was that good. No wonder they are always sold out! If they are short of donuts go to Tried and True coffee who carries their donuts as well lol! It's that good. Worth going to Oregon for.

Eduardo L.

Yelp
Best donuts in the world! To say the least. If you are planning a trip there you need to go early because this donuts are so good that one time arrived there 15 min after opening and they were sold out. Someone had bought the entire thing. Thank God it was early in the day that made more and I was able to get my donut later in the day.

steve g.

Yelp
I was taking a trip down to Northern Cal from Seattle, and stopped here on an early Thursday morning. I picked up the Horchata Glaze. It was a solid choice! Not sickly sweet with that nice bit of dry cinnamon mouth feel. The donut itself was fluffy and excellent. Service was quick, this is definitely a drop in and leave kind of place. They seem to have a very busy kitchen.

Brittney W.

Yelp
Nothing special, they had limited supply when I went in and the donuts are more dough than anything. Won't be returning

Pam W.

Yelp
Overall the donuts were very good with the exception of one. The croissant donut was very greasy that we couldn't eat it. It left a big oil spill in the bottom of the box.

Noah S.

Yelp
Charged for order that was not available when I went to pick it up. Bad service. They were super Leah to my mom.

Hayley A.

Yelp
My favorite donuts in the area! They're always so fresh and the customer service is good

krysta l.

Yelp
Have you had any of their delicious treats? Oh my goodness. Literally. Soooooo good. I doubt they make anything yucky.

Lori T.

Yelp
I have been to Dough Hook several times and each time I have gone we have enjoyed their donuts. Some of my favorites are the marionberry, creme brûlée, grandma's hot cocoa, the cruffin and the horchata glaze. It's worth a trip to this very small bakery.

Justin A.

Yelp
The line is worth the wait. Had the ham and cheese croissant. Would get it again. Sugar and cinnamon donuts were fresh out the oven. So good!

Erin O.

Yelp
Dough Hook for the win! My daughter loves donuts, so we"ve been on a quest the last few weeks to find the best surrounding Woodburn. My daughter bought (top clockwise) a churro donut, French toast, two glazed, and a chocolate sprinkle. For me, she picked a crème brûlée. The crème brûlée has that hard crackly topping you'd expect on your dessert, and it is filled with a delicious cream. A bit of a drive for us, but worth it for special occasions.

Aja T.

Yelp
I prefer lighter donuts but my husband loves the boston cream pie and the apple fritters from here and I needed to get something to bring to an early morning potluck so I ordered 15 donuts total on door dash. Everything was there EXCEPT the boston creams and apple fritter. One item might be no big but when they don't they have 3 of the things you ordered ($12 of my order) it would be nice if they at least contact you before just substituting random donuts. I ordered at 7am so it seems unlikely that they were already sold out. Everything looks great and fresh though.

Aubri H.

Yelp
Oh my lord! I was scrolling through Yelp while in Salem and I see this page promising me flavors like crème brûlée, passion fruit poppyseed, Marion berry with lemon drizzle and French toast. I placed an online order of a variety of a dozen so we could try several flavors. Our order arrived quickly. The doughnuts are huge and both looked and smelled amazing. I tried the crème brûlée, poppyseed and Marion berry. The flavors are amazing, like super happy mouth flavor explosion amazing! I wish I could have tried them all but I was already in a sugar coma. My friends that did partake had nothing but glowing things to say. I am telling all my friends and anyone who loves a good doughnut to give these a try, you will not be disappointed. They also left me a cute handwritten note thanking me for my order which I completely appreciated.

Angela Z.

Yelp
We made a stop at this shop in the morning at the start of a long road trip. There was a line out the door but we were in no rush so we decided to wait. I don't remember the other donuts that I got, but we each got one or two different flavors among the three of us and the one that stood out to me was the crème brûlée donut. The others were a bit too sweet or messy for my liking but this one hit the spot. So soft with such an abundance of the delicious custard and not too much of a sticky crunch to it. If I ever pass through Salem again I am stopping here!

Megan S.

Yelp
I haven't been to this shop in person yet, but have tried their delicious donuts twice now. They are HUGE, a little denser than your normal raised donut but still fluffy and soft. You can find both traditional flavors (glazed, maple, chocolate) as well as some more unique combos. Perfect for all tastes! My favorite most recently was a Tres Leche donut topped with a delicious heaping of creamy filling, fresh strawberries and chocolate drizzle. *drool*

E M.

Yelp
The very best donuts I have EVER tasted! The creme brulee donut is out of this galaxy amazing! I found it perfectly sweet. Not the cloying sweet taste that many donuts have. I'm thinking I will go there today in fact and grab one.

Tracy C.

Yelp
Look, Their donuts are good. Way too pricey for a donut. Don't order online for delivery. You never get what you order and they substitute for the cheaper donut. If you don't have the donut, reach out and give the customer an option.

Shin O.

Yelp
I usually don't crave doughnuts. But I crave for Dough Hook's doughnuts. It's a gravitational pull at this point. If there is a Michelin Star rating given for doughnuts, this is a 3-star shop. I wish this place went viral and reached people out of State, hell out of the Country. The creme brulee doughnut will literally make you faint for a moment and come right back. It's that good.

Chan C.

Yelp
I am hooked on the Dough Hook Bakery! They have lots to Cho from including savory items. The cream brûlée donut is so good! The Cruffin!!!! Is hands down my favorite so delicious! I'm glad I do t live close by it could become a problem. LOL

Tami A.

Yelp
So delicious. Never had or heard of vegans donuts. Very good. However they also sell regular donuts as well. Small business, but great and fast service. Awesome customer service.

Mikaela P.

Yelp
Doughnuts are fantastic and the staff in the kitchen is wonderful. However, the young lady at the cash register is apparently unable to speak. We ask questions and she legit does not respond. She ignores every customer who comes to her desk- we've watched multiple people walk away baffled by the lack of interaction. When you thank her, she remains silent- just returning your smile with a glare. She obviously hates this job and hates you, the customer. Again, the doughnuts are great! But this girl needs to take a class in customer service.

Danielle B.

Yelp
Huge, very filling donuts! Would definitely recommend. Adding more words to make Yelp happy.

Projectile M.

Yelp
Excellent quality product for the price. And a wonderful fresh selection. I've had Blue Star donuts award winning and praised quality donuts and they are worth while. But Dough Hook has a creative and fantastically curated menu that is easily as good if not better than Blue Star. Absolutely worth your consideration if your looking for local.

Jay P.

Yelp
A friend suggested we try this place after I suggested that a donut sounded good. I picked out four donuts and only one was truly memorable and that was the creme brulee donut. It was really good. The rest was sort of a meh. The marion berry and another one that was berry based was just too tart and hard to finish. I will have to try again and maybe their other selections for it to change my mind and hopefully for the good!

Caroline A.

Yelp
I absolutely love these vegan doughnuts. My only gripe is they run out of their vegan doughnuts quickly in the morning so I often miss out on flavours or getting anything entirely as they don't make more of the vegan ones until the next morning it seems. So far I've had the luck to try their hot cocoa, maple, and toasted coconut flavours as well as their vegan conchas.

Paulina V.

Yelp
So yummy! It's so good love it! Service is incredible! They have your dounts fast for u!

Kat J.

Yelp
Do yourself a favor and stop by. From their Saturday market booth, their donuts are to die for!!!! They have a variety of unique flavors and portions sizes you dream of. This is not Dunkin' Donuts with small half flavored donuts, these are artisan and phenomenal. There are scones, cinnamon rolls, and donuts, you can't go wrong. A lemon Marionberry, a crembrûlée or cookie based donuts, or savory and sweet scones are all freshly made and well worth the line at the market. They accept Apple Pay, card and cash. *no gluten free options

Yvette C.

Yelp
Suggest getting there early but what was left was still delicious, we tried the fruity pebble one, creme brulee, maple bacon, marionberry, and grandmas brownie I believe they were called they were delicious. The woman at the counter was very sweet and it is the cutest little donut shop. Highly suggest giving them a try if you are in Salem.

Noriko G.

Yelp
These people know how to build a signature doughnut! Some many choices for every heart's desire and these are quality doughnuts! We come back time after time and always have expect that same consistency! They deliver great doughnuts every time! They are priced higher because they are bigger and made with food ingredients! You gotta try out there selection and find your favorite!

Cara C.

Yelp
Creative flavors with excellent service! I loved the Boston cream and the horchata flavor; we will for sure be back to explore more! My only complaint is I wish they had been warm, but that's an easy fix at home! Ranging from $3-5 dollars I felt like they were reasonably priced!

Tiffany D.

Yelp
This lived up to all of my donut expectations! I had been following them on Instagram for months and finally paid a visit while getting my nails done next door. I went in 15 minutes before closing so I knew the section would be limited but man I regretted not snagging the other lavender lemon doughnut that was left because it was amazing! I was also gifted a cream filled croissant type of pastry (not pictured) because the shape "didn't turn out", but I had it with my coffee the next morning and it was also DELICIOUS. Support the local small business, they live up to the hype!

Briana M.

Yelp
Okay... I bought 3 items. A croissant, Marion berry + lemon donut, and this creme brûlée donut. I didn't make it out the spot before biting it as you can see. The donut was torched right after purchase and I love how it's not sweet. I'm not a huge donut fan, usually because it's just TOO sweet, I just try them when out of town and this was excellent and did not disappoint. I would recommended trying them!

Ro H.

Yelp
The donuts were fresh and delicious. I would definitely buy from here again. The only problem is that they sale really quick.

Nathan S.

Yelp
This is an excellent donut and pastry shop. The pastries are light, buttery, and flaky. The donuts are big but light, soft, and the right amount of chew. The flavors are fantastic. Not overly sugary. Each flavor comes through as its own without the artificial flavoring of other donut establishments. This place can hold it's own

Courtney M.

Yelp
This place was awesome! I went on a Saturday night and they had a little line- restricting only one person/family at a time due to COVID guidelines. They inside was cute and clean. All the workers looked super busy, but I was pleasantly surprised that they were still well stocked with a bunch of different donuts I've never even seen/heard of! Service was quick and my donut tasted pretty good! Nice and fluffy, and still warm! In the photo, I got the 'French Toast' donut. It was so big! These donuts are definitely shareable. Can't wait to go back again and try more!

Jake D.

Yelp
Corvallis store opened at 7:30am on Sunday. Hours on socials could be better reflected (they stated 7am). When they did open, not everything was ready, which required about another 10 minute wait. The doughnuts were just okay - far from the best option in town (at least right now). They're about twice as expensive as they should be, especially the Apple Fritter. I'm looking forward to seeing this business grow and having a better experience next time!
