A fancy way to kick off August!
We decided to check out Dough Pizzeria Napoletana near the San Antonio international airport after hearing all the buzz--especially their feature on Food Network. We were curious to see if the rave reviews and the slightly upscale pricing were truly justified. From the moment we arrived, the customer service was excellent. The hosts at the front were friendly and welcoming, clearly prepared for a busy day with plenty of outdoor seating available. While I personally wouldn't choose to dine outside in the San Antonio heat, it turns out many people don't mind at all--especially since the indoor space is cozy and fills up quickly.
The menu is concise yet impressive, printed on a single sheet with carefully curated options. They also had a special insert for seasonal dishes, which was a nice touch and shoes they rotate items regularly.
To start, we ordered the Caprese, which came with a perfectly baked flatbread. The house-pulled mozzarella, fresh basil, tomatoes, and rosemary balsamic red I were all incredibly flavorful. Definitely a highlight.
We also tried. The Shrimp and Calamari al Forno, Marinara, Amore di Maiale and the Americana pizzas. Their dough is truly their crown jewel--bake 800 degrees for 90 seconds, resulting in that perfect Neapolitan-style crust: light, chewy, and slightly charred.
The ambience was relaxed and inviting, and service stayed attentive even as the restaurant got busier, kudos to our server Lucas. As for the pricing, it's definitely on the higher end--but considering the quality of ingredients, skill in preparation, and the restaurant's reputation, it feels mostly justified. That said, it's probably more of a special occasion spot for us rather than a casual dinner out.
All in all, it was a lovely Friday evening dining experience. Dough is a great pick for a more elevated Italian meal.
