NYC Restaurant Closings, July 2022 | Eater NY

"Taking over the old Vanessa’s Dumpling House space in 2019, Kent’s Dumpling House drew fans for bargain sesame pancakes and basil dumplings but has been closed for some time with workers dismantling the interiors and the restaurant listed as permanently closed on Google." - Caroline Shin

Google
This was our first time here and they were very welcoming when we walked in and walked us to our table. Gave us plenty of time to order and we used a little check mark menu piece of paper. The food was decent for what it is I'm not a huge fan of noodles but they weren't that bad to me. If you're a big fan of dim sum and noodles this place is the place you want to be. The only issue we had was they brought our drinks out extremely late because they forgot about them, otherwise service was great.

My second time going to Dough Zone, the other one I went to was in Bellevue. Pretty decent selections, I’m not huge on the noodle dishes personally, like the beef and sesame one. The Chicken Dumplings and Pan-Fried Wontons were the best, so I totally recommend those.

Google
We have been wanting to try Dough Zone since they moved in and took the place of Trapper Sushi. Upon entering we were greeted and told to grab any table and then both the girls disappeared behind a partition to chat and play on teair phones. We found a link to the main site on the table which didn't take you straight to a menu that had broken images and took forever to load. Once we figured out what we wanted we waited for about 10 minutes for someone to come check on us to see if we were ready to order. As we sat watching the girls play in theirs phones and have a great time chatting we contemplated just leaving but as we went to stand up one of them finally came over. The girl took our order and then went back to playing on her phone. While we waited for our food and during the entire time we were there. We had to sit and listen to constant timer alarms going off. The alarms would go off for anywhere from 30 seconds to a min. They would get silenced and then wasn't more than about 30 seconds of peace and then another alarm would go off. There is no sound dampening in the restaurant. So all of the chatting and alarms just echo through out the place. Our order came out within about 15 minutes of us putting in our order. We were about done eating and someone brought more food to the table. We were confused but it looked like they had forgotten an item. There was even more confusion when we discovered that it wasn't even out food. Come to find out our missing was deliver to a different table and then retrieved from that table and then they tried to serve to us. I said no thanks and then was reassured that they didn't do anything to it. I said no thanks again and asked for it to be removed from the bill. Food was ok, we have eaten at Dough Zones and the food at them was much better. Most of the food tasted like it was frozen to stramer. The steamed buns, the meat inside was a pre formed patty free floating in the bun. Pot stickers and wontons were good The Dandan noodles were greasy and over sauced. The ginger left on the table was dried up like it had been sitting out all day. While we were eating someone was filling glasses with ice from the bar ice bin. He would beat the ice with a metal shovel and as stated before there is no sound dampening so it was very loud in the middle of the restaurant. Same thing with someone sorting silverware. Service was bad, food was soso, we are very disappointed and miss Trapper Sushi. If we want dumplings we will go to Lucky House for DimSum. So we will most likely not be back.

Google
Good service and decent food. I recommend the pork & crab soup dumplings, spicy beef wrapped in green onion and cucumber salad.

Google
Really love the clean aesthetic and music. They're quick to seat you and give you time to order. We ordered several appetizers and soups. Everything is served beautifully, and we enjoyed the food. Only thing is the beef noodle soup was way too salty! Everything else from the chicken dumplings, steamed pork buns, etc was delicious! 😋 I will return again. 😊

Google
I was just too excited that Dough Zone was opening in Kent station, and happy I tired. Vegetarian options - Loved their Yi Bin and Dan Dan noodles. Dumplings have less stuffing so they are not puffy and looks small and more doughy. The place can get loud when busy, service can get better. I wish I could give them 5 stars like other Dough Zone locations.

Google
“it’s alright i guess” - denz “Innarealwaytho” - lenz Reliable. Nothing impressive, cheaper than the competition. Xiaolongbao pretty decent but kind of dry, and dan dan noodles are inconsistent in quality per visit. good enough/10

Google
Sweet & Sour Cucumber was my favorite of many very good dishes. Easy to order menu and quick service. Dumplings, potstickers and noodles were all flavorful, fresh, and yum!

Yelp
We stopped by for dinner before a Summer Concert at Kent Station on Wednesday night. It was not busy. Inside is modern, simple, and spacious. Service is good, our waiter gave some recommendations and refilled our water. My only complain is I added a dish towards the end of the meal, it never came, so I ended up getting it to-go. Food I recommend: +Cucumber salad (4 out of 5 stars) - good knife skills which makes it visually pleasing, but not easy to eat (requires cutting the whole cucumber into smaller pieces). It's sweet, and slightly sour. The chili oil gives it a nice fragrance. +Spicy beef wrapped in green onion pancake (4/5) - there is a good amount of thinly sliced beef, pretty tasty and filling. +Pork and Crab Xiao Long Bao (4 out of 5 stars) - a good amount of soup, has a subtly seafood taste from the crab. +Steamed shrimp and zucchini dumplings (3.5/5) - very mild filling, opposite of fatty, subtle sweetness from the zucchini. Tip: don't bother with the online wait-list, it didn't work for me, and it wasn't necessary on weekdays

Yelp
We were really sad to see Trapper's close after so many years in Kent Station. However, we were excited to see that Dough Zone was taking its place. We've been to plenty of other locations around Washington and in Portland. This restaurant is a great place to get your dumpling fix. Especially in the Kent area where the dumpling scene is lacking. Is it as good as Din Tai? Many will argue no. But take into consideration cost and value. Dough Zone might not be as higher end as Din Tai, but it reflects in its pricing. We appreciate how quick the service is. It's a nice spot to run in before a movie or a bite to eat afterwards. The restaurant is clean and spacious.

Yelp
We came here for lunch before catching a movie nearby. Upon entering the restaurant, it was bright and spacious with plenty of tables. We were given a paper menu to fill out what to order. There is also a QR code menu on the table for pictures of the items. I've been to Dough Zone at numerous locations so I knew what each items were. We decided to order the pork Xiao long bao, pan fried q-baos, pork wontons in chili sauce and their banana naan bread. Overall, each dish came out fast and piping hot. Food is consistent compare to their other locations. I do like having this location conveniently located at Kent Station where you can catch a meal before or after a movie. I will come back to this location when I'm around the area.

Yelp
The place is very clean, the food is good, I just wish they had some rice dishes to even things out. Staff was friendly and accommodated our large party more than once. Dan Dan noodles for the win

Yelp
The server was super polite and helped me with ordering. Personally the price is too high here for what you get. I wanted to try so many things but fiscally it's not smart to eat here alone, bring a friend. The soup dumplings burnt my lip but that's my fault for being so hungry and impatient. But yeah, give it time to cool! Don't be like me lol. The music was really nice here, definitely a date worthy spot imo. The only think keeping this from a 4 star review is the high prices. You really dont get much for $23, I left still pretty hungry.

Yelp
The food was amazing and the place is super cute inside . We got the soup dumplings, wontons , and cucumbers. The soup dumplings were super flavorful and warm . Love the spicy sauce on the wontons . And the cucumber were refreshing and the presentation is amazing. Service was prompt and friendly even though we got their an hour before closing time

Yelp
The service was excellent, friendly and attentive. We got right in and sat for a weekend lunch. It was neat that they were offering a free bottled Coke Cola if you followed them on Instagram. Sadly I felt that the food was mediocre. Every dish/plate/entree was about $7.50 each but you need at least 2 dishes to fill you up for a light/medium meal. We ordered Dan Dan Noodles (not very spicy) 5/10 in flavor. They tasted just like ramen noodles with fish sauce and chili oil. We also ordered Pork Soup Dumplings which were a 6/10. I shouldn't say it but Din Tai Fung is so much better for dumplings. And Pork Wontons in Chili Sauce 7/10. They were slurpy and tasted great but the portion was small. Overall I probably won't be back because there are other restaurants with better tasting dumplings at a similar price.

Yelp
Xiao Long Baos are decent, nowhere near Din Tai Fungs level....Service was not good at all....after the food was brought out no one came to check on me to see if I needed anything. Even after I was done with my meal I sat for another 10 minutes and no one came up. Finally had to get up and walk up and ask for a Togo container....i normally tip 20-25% at every place I eat but the service was so bad I had to give them 0% today...I paid for the food because that's what I got..:didn't tip because the service was not there...
google avatar

Sunny H.

Yelp
Food was decent. Service was friendly but slow. I don't enjoy having to constantly ask for things rather than the server being quick to see what's needed. Wasn't super busy or anything. Today they did not have any rice dishes on menu yet. Also no veggie dishes. Hopefully they'll have ready in a few weeks.

Yelp
Humpty Dumplings! This place serves up small dishes of all types of dumplings. It's like a Dim Sum of various dumpling dishes and served noodle dishes. Once you start you can't stop the flow of plates and steam baskets.
google avatar

Nathan E.

Yelp
All of the food here is BUSSIN. You can't go here and not get soup dumplings, steamed buns, and Dan Dan noodles. The server was very friendly and good at making room on our table for the ridiculous amount of food my wife and two friends ordered. You cannot go wrong here. Try it for yourself.

Yelp
I didn't know what to expect here, but it is pretty good! The place was busy, but we were seated quickly. They gave us plenty of time to look over the menu. Since this was my first time here, I sampled a few things. I chose the green onion pancakes, beef sandwich, and Dan Dan noodles. The noodles were my favorite, although I didn't feel they were spicy at all. My second favorite was the green onion pancakes. Actually, everyone that had some ended up liking them. The beef sandwich was good, but was a little bit tough, chewy, and fatty for me. I also tried my partner's gyoza and wontons. Whatever the sauce or broth was that came with the wontons was amazing. No pics this time, I was famished!

Yelp
From the time we walked in, we were greeted and sat down without much weight. This was the first time I had been to the restaurant. The kind waitress gave me some recommendations and I chosen them. The food came out hot fresh and was The food was very delicious.!!! I would recommend going there for lunch or dinner The dining room was clean. The staff was courteous and I plan to go again.

Yelp
Yum! Delicious food and very kind and helpful service. It was a fun adventure and we will definitely be back. It was warm and inviting inside. The previous restaurant in that location was always freezing lol. No booths, only beer and sake, but definitely try them out. We went between lunch and dinner, so it wasn't as busy. Thank you Dough Zone for a great afternoon!

Yelp
Stopped by for lunch on a Saturday. Not crowded which was nice. We were sat and served very quickly. Very friendly and efficient staff and the food was great as well. So happy to have a dough zone so close to us

Yelp
This place ! OMG. We decided last minute to place an order for lunch and I'm so happy we did. Online ordering was easy, I ordered the sweet and sour cucumber and the chicken vegetable wontons. SOO GOOD IM OBSESSED
google avatar

Yelp
Food was good and made fresh. Service on the other hand seems to be lacking in both common sense & attentiveness. Wife & daughter ordered hot water being chilly from the weather. Server proceeded to bring regular plastic beverage cups and pour the hot water in them, which instantly made the cups extremely hot to the touch. At which point we requested tea cups or a mug. Also on the service side, our server spent the bulk of her time on her phone rather than being attentive at her work. Having to wave frenetically or loudly saying "excuse me" wore thin pretty quickly. And lastly, when you order the cold noodle dish with sesame sauce, and it comes out hot, might have to have a chat with the staff about paying attention. Overall service could be better, but food was good.

Yelp
Convenient location near 167. Service was on point. Food and music were good. Bathroom was clean. Lots of free parking (garage and surface lot). Good option for business lunches and holiday get togethers. Good for pre/post movie showings, WHL Seattle Thunderbirds games and concerts too.

Yelp
Date Night standard! Friendly Staff greets you upon entry. Clean tables and floors (you don't stick to the ground when you walk). Easy to order and QR menu has good descriptions and pics. The food came out fast and delicious. This is going to be a fav spot.

Yelp
VERY GOOD! First time all the employees are welcoming and so nice. Very quick service, i was on the waiting list less then 10 minutes. Definitely recommend and will be returning

Yelp
Decided to try takeout for dough zone after a nail appointment in Kent station. Was hoping for quick service however my order took over 20 minutes. In my opinion too long for takeout. If you're in a hurry I don't recommend ordering take out but perhaps if you're not in a rush it wouldn't be a problem for dine in.

Mary C.

Yelp
Food is full of flavor and service top notch. Highly recommend. Love the varieties. Something for everyone.

charlotte w.

Yelp
I liked it! I heard that it was like din tai fung and it was very similar. The prices were a bit cheaper but you got less food. I am really glad that I had already gone to din tai before because they didn't explain how to order using the sheet or how to eat the soup dumplings. They also didn't come around to the table often but the food was delicious. Very clean bathroom.
google avatar

Kim R.

Yelp
Good service. Good food. It tasted amazing. Pleasantly surprised. Good value for the price.

Chloe M.

Yelp
best place ever din tai fung on a budget but same quality. best item is the xiao long bao and pan fried wonton with sweet and spicy garlic sauce!!!

Speedster O.

Yelp
Brand new location with the nice atmosphere as all the other Dough Zones. I love the food and service has always been great! So happy one opened in Kent. Highly recommend...

Veronica F.

Yelp
Place was packed! Waiting wasn't so bad but the service sucked. We didn't get everything we ordered and the waitress never brought us water or the drinks we ordered. Probably overwhelmed so they were a bit scattered-brain. But still, when it comes to food business, they should be mindful of the basics. Water first or drinks ordered - then the food. What if I choked on the dumpling? Right?!

Lauren K.

Yelp
I love Dough Zone. My husband and I regularly have driven from Tacoma to Renton to get Dough Zone or grab it when we are in the city. We were excited to see a Kent location as I work nearby. We went in and added our names to the waitlist. With a 35-45 minute wait, we walked around. After over an hour our place on the list never changed. No one ahead of us got sat. There were just empty tables and staff standing around. I was annoyed because it was cold and I was hungry. So we went to Mama Stortini's and had a great meal. Just follow up with the wait list! Why else would there be an electronic waitlist?!?! I guess we will go to other locations.

Yelp
Great service and surprisingly nice for Kent station. The food was cooked to perfection, pretty much standard dough zone. Worth visiting if you're in the area, the restaurant is new so expect it to be clean and fancy looking. Overall would definitely go back out of not only convenience but just good experience all together.

Yelp
Delicious! I have been wanting to try Dough Zone for a long time. I finally got my chance. The kale salad is amazing. All of the potstickers were wonderful. We really enjoyed our experience.

Alicia C.

Yelp
Been here a few times, and will continue to come back! The service has always been fast and friendly, and the food has been consistently amazing. Their Dan Dan noodles and soup dumplings are a favorite! Worth stopping by!
google avatar

Yelp
For a place called dough zone this new joint should take some time to perfect it. All of the buns and dumplings had dough that was raw. Flavor was also missing. There was a lot of over staffing that made the service easy and stress-free.

Matthew C.

Yelp
I ordered pork and shrimp dumplings, pork wontons, and pork xiao long bao. The food was undercooked and gave us food poisoning immediately. That was my first experience here.

diana n.

Yelp
Took my dad out to eat here because I was excited they opened a location in Kent when I usually go to the Renton location. Truly disappointing. The Renton location is always bustling and busy and it was dead over here in Kent, and I understand why. The service was decent but the food was so bad. We ordered the cucumbers, beef potstickers, pork wonton in chili sauce, yibin noodles and crab xiao long bao. The cucumber lacked so much flavor compared to the way Renton has it made. It was just sesame oil, it needed to be more sour. As for the noodles, normally I never ever get noodles from Dough Zone because I have tried all of them and theyre all tasteless and simply not worth the money but I thought I'd give it another chance since it was a different location. Suffice to say it was probably the worst by far, literally just doused in oil with absolutely no other flavor. My dad thought some salt would help but that wasn't on the table so we just sucked it up and finished it so we didn't have to waste money or take it home. The wonton and potstickers were good though! Tasted like how it usually does. As for the crab/pork xiao long bao it was decent, the soup part was better than Rentons because the liquid actually came out. But the inside was very pink, not sure if this is regular. Half way through my dining I get the absolute worst stomachache and could not eat anymore, I honestly couldn't even tell which of the dishes caused it or if it was all the excessive tasteless oil. I'm definitely just going to stick to the Landing if I ever want Dough Zone that wouldn't give me food poisoning.
