"People flock to Reading Terminal Market for everything from donuts to a lotion restock, so it’s no surprise that the blueberry flapjacks from Down Home Diner draw a crowd. It’s one of the largest vendors in the massive Center City market, and has multiple wooden booths and metallic tables. You’ll see everyone from families to coworkers grabbing breakfast or a scrapple-topped burger (it’s dry, so skip it). Breakfast here is the winner—especially the scram bowl that’s pretty much a feast of eggs, home fries, and spicy sausage in one heap, and it’s served all day. Weekends are extremely busy, so stop by early or on a Tuesday afternoon while everyone is in a meeting that could’ve been an email with their boss." - Candis R. McLean

Stopped here on our annual firework pilgrimage from Denver. Figured a spot attached to a gas station right off the interstate must be good with all the trucker traffic, and I was right. The biscuits were so fluffy, the hash browns were nice and crunchy, the fry breading on the chicken fried steak was great and the eggs were cooked perfect. Sweet tea was very good too. Only complaint was the meat patty in the chicken fry was really thin, a bit thicker would have taken it to the next level. Service was terrific even though they were busy, very friendly and attentive. Prices were very reasonable too. I'll be back same time next year, maybe the meat patty will be a little thicker.

The diner food here is some of the best anywhere. Don't let the outside fool you. The place was very quiet when we arrived. Got very busy and the two waitresses and one cook and one dishwasher were swamped. Most everyone was understanding. One Kyle and Karen oblivious to their surroundings became upset with their waitress, so sad that people like this are allowed out in public. Can't wait for our next visit to Cheyenne to stop in again.

Oh my days, i cannot praise this diner high enough. The waitress yesterday morning, I didn't catch her name, but she was absolutely darling! My daughter and I were having a bit of a rough morning due to roads being closed and road work but we wanted to try something new and stumbled on in. The decorations inside felt very homey to me. Cozy. Very clean inside. Delicious coffee. I don't remember the name of the dish I ordered (will include in photos) but everything was cooked perfectly and very delicious. My little got the French toast (no maple syrup was easy to ask for as she has sensitivities) with a side of bacon. Everything was just wonderful! At the end of our visit, I feel that going the extra mile to get here is very worth it. We are already planning another trip!!!

Google
This is an all around great place to eat and park as a trucker. Good home cooked meals are so very rare for us anymore. Thank You for all you do for us. I had the liver and onions dinner Saturday night and it was excellent. Sunday the Spaghetti special. Very good also. It could have used a little seasoning like some garlic and basil but it was fine. Thanks Violet for being so sweet and caring about your customers. You are a gem.

Google

Google
This is a great spot! Large portions, great price! Taste of real homemade food! Not too busy, it's a very quiet and relaxed place. You can see the train go by through the windows. Very friendly staff. Definitely plan to stop here again!

Google
Just hit the spot for us with great food, quick service, and pleasant staff (thank you, Connie) The cooks know their stuff And the food is made from scratch here. Reasonable prices. Mostly locals eating here. Just a gem of a store. Well done! It's our new favorite spot when traveling on I 80 in Wyoming. Give it a try. You won't be disappointed

Google
Fantastic family style restaurant with a very attentive wait staff. I stopped in on a Saturday morning and was readily welcomed to seat myself. I was highly appreciative of my coffee cup being regularly refilled. The steak and eggs were prepared well and at a reasonable price. French toast was good, but average. This was my first time here but it’s getting added to my list of regular spots to stop as a trucker who likes getting out of the cab and sitting down for a meal.

Zoi B.

Yelp
Great service; it's self seating so if your anal about your placement from the door or what have you great idea; best biscuits and gravy I've bought in a long time; pancakes come with real butter (like ingredients milk salt) and fret blueberries so they weren't super sweet witch was nice.

Mugre P.

Yelp
We love this hole in the wall old fashion truck stop style restaurant in Cheyenne. I usually get their burger unless I'm having breakfast there. My wife loves their liver and onions meal. Service is always good. Eating here is like stepping back in time several decades. We do love the place and I recommend you give it a try.

Andrea N C.

Yelp
Almost missed this little hole in the wall dinner attached to the Sinclair gas station but I'm very glad I didnt the food was steller and the waitress was very friendly and helpful I left feeling full and like family very glad I got this experience, I recommend it to others passing thru

Keith J.

Yelp
Was staying in a nearby hotel and decided to try this place. Great service, large proportions, tasty food and good prices.

Lloyd M.

Yelp
This place could be lifted from a movie set. It is so traditional looking, and nostalgic that I wdnt be surprised if the head waitress name is Flo! It was convenient and timely right next door to my hotel, I went there for breakfast and everyone was so nice. The truck stop guys were there, so were the locals. Seriously, it could be direct casting. Anyway, the food was good and reasonably priced. I went back for dinner too. Great job both times!!

Sha M.

Yelp
Ordered veggie skillet french toast sourdough toast grits and oatmeal. Nice place. Nice location. Went in at 510am and a handful of people were eating. Hours 5am-9pm. Waitress was really sweet. Everyone inside were friendly, even the customers, some were regulars you could tell. Food came out in 12mins. I heard someone calling in for takeout. Portions were cool. Definitely coming back for the grits and oatmeal. This place gets busy by the way! People are working hard, tip what you want to be tipped guys! The skillet was ok. The french toast is white bread, its ok. The sourdough toast was good! Place was clean. Price good. Quality is ok. Not getting the french toast again though haha. Best experience really bc of the waitress. She was really sweet and had conversation. She was an older lady with a tatt on her left ankle, slim lady.

Brenda G.

Yelp
My husband and I were looking for a new place to try so we went here for dinner. I had the chicken strip dinner with fries and mac & cheese. The chicken wasn't real chicken, you could tell it was processed by the taste. The fries were so incredibly greasy, they were soggy! And the mac & cheese was instant. It looked like it had been sitting out for a while and reheated. It tasted dry. If I wanted instant mac & cheese from a box I could've made it at home! My husband's roast beef sandwich had so much fat on it that he had to cut most of it off! All in all, our food was terrible and we will not be back.

Sara A.

Yelp
Not bad. Better than I thought it would be. Mostly older folks but fresh, well cooked food. Chicken friend steak excellent and the chicken salad had chicken strips actually warm and cut from a chicken. Not cold plastic container stuff. Waitstaff friendly and fast.

Katie's S.

Yelp
We needed good food fast. With a two year old in tow, we arrived, and we're greeted by a lovely server didn't mind all of our questions about the town. Food came out hot and delicious in less than 15 minutes. The kids breakfast meal is a steel. I thought of the prices are very reasonable and I really enjoyed my patty melt. The ambience was that of a local diner. We chatted with a couple more locals. I was very skeptical with it being connected to the gas station, but it turned out to exceeded my expectations and I would stop here again when we come through.

Sharalyn M.

Yelp
We had been traveling all day and just wanted something quick. Down Home was near or hotel. It was Easter, so lots of places were closed. They serve breakfast all day, so we opted for biscuits and gravy. So good. The gravy was flavorful, the biscuits were tender and fluffy. There are two biscuits on the plate and it had just the right amount of gravy. Not a lot of ambiance, but the food was hot, fast, and good.

Larry M.

Yelp
Wow, has it gone down hill. I had a sleep study, so was up early the next morning, and there aren't a lot of places open at 6. My wife is on diets off-on, so we have pretty much quit going out for breakfast in recent years... but I needed food. I figured it was down to Pennys, Sharis, or Down Home... I used to be in a couple times a month, so I figured I'd go back here. I grabbed a booth and ordered 2 eggs over medium, bacon, hash browns, a biscuit and a side of gravy. The eggs where good, and cooked to medium. From there things got worse. The bacon was so thin you could literally see through it. The hash brown were cold on the inside and almost crisp on the outside. The biscuits were small and looked packaged, not the way I remembered them at all. The gravy was the biggest disappointment... it had no flavor at all. No sausage taste, no sage, no pepper just bland nothingness. To cap it all off? Someone that I assume was the manager sat in the booth behind me and bitched and complained the whole time... another Cheyenne restaurant crashed and burned.

Amy M.

Yelp
Checked out of a hotel at about 5am to travel the next leg of a road trip, the desk clerk said she always forgets about this diner but it is good. So, they opened earliest, we parked outside to wait for opening. As soon as the doors were unlocked, all kinds of truck doors in the parking lot opened. We hadn't realized that many trucks were occupied in the lot. You know you hit a good place when there are "old guys" waiting outside like that. Even better, the waitress had their coffees at their usual tables waiting, and greeted them all by name! Prices were great, portions were generous and everyone was so nice, do yourself a favor and get up before sunrise to have breakfast at Down Home!

Mitch D.

Yelp
Dosent look like much driving by and don't let the attached gas station fool you, this spot has good food great people and hot coffee! Quaint feeling and a good spot to start the day!

Victoria W.

Yelp
Good home style food. The service great (attentiveness from the waitresses). Although, you may have to wait for your food for a bit if it's super busy. I'm assuming this is due to the kitchen size/staffing. Clean space as well.

Cris E.

Yelp
My wife and I were on a road trip our to Wa st on Friday morning Aug 13th 2021. We both had cheese lover omelette. Man these were amazing! Hot melted cheese, so amazing! We thought this was a great find. We went as far as to tell friends in Wa state what an amazing place we found in little Cheyenne WYOMING. Fast forward a couple weeks and we are headed home and we find ourselves here again on a Friday morning. Seriously this can not be the same diner. The very same meals were not hot, the cheese was not melted, and the staff was over worked. For a business like this to be over the top successful, you need to be consistent. I was going to give this place a solid 4 as I love the home town feel. I'm sorry but this place really needs to find it's consistently. Note the staff waiting tables are amazing. Thanks for reading my ramblings- Sepi

Brandon J.

Yelp
I ordered the country fried steak, food was still steaming when I got it. the portions here are epically big, they brought out 3 plates for my 1 order. great pricing too

Sandra C.

Yelp
Close to our hotel. Good home style cooking. Reasonable prices. Quick, friendly service. Great fries and onion rings. Meal was hot. Very reasonably priced. Breakfast served all day. Several specials. Camion, the server was very friendly and efficient. Worth a stop!

Christian R.

Yelp
Just a nice, small diner really close to I-80. The breakfast is simple, but tasty. Portions aren't huge but they are enough to fill you up. Got a breakfast skillet for $10. The coffee is very fresh and good black but they also offer creamer. Staff is very friendly.

Mellissa S.

Yelp
Ok, so I like trying home cooked places rather than chain restaurants. This one did not meet up to my expectations completely but I wouldn't write it off as a no go. First you walk in and the floors were filthy as well as most of the tables. When they cleaned the tables, it was a quick wipe down missing lots of spots and reusing the same rag over and over without rinsing or cleaning the rag. It was pretty much spreading the grime from one table to another. The food. We ordered the Chili burger and fish and chips with coleslaw. The chili is actually chili' Mexican style not chilli beans. The burger was cooked perfectly as was the chili. The fries tasted like fresh cut potatoes and the fish was like most fried fish places. I loved it. The coleslaw came late and was ok. Tasted like it was premade. The Tea was great so if you're thirsty, water or tea is the best here.

Karen J.

Yelp
We met some friends for breakfast here. I ordered the chicken fried steak based on reviews and it was good. My hubby ordered the corned beef hash and used his 2 sides to make biscuits and gravy. The corned beef hash serving was small compared to other entrees and he's used to his gravy which has a lot more meat. We were still full later and had a very light lunch. I was most impressed by the waitress who carried 4 plates in one hand plus another few plates up her arm ... that's some mad skillz (with a z, 'cause she's so cool). WOOT!

Daniel S.

Yelp
Service was great, waitress was polite and attentive. The food is so so . The quality of the ingredients seems on the lower side of things . I had the country fried steak , it was cooked well but really just adequate taste wise , not a fan of instant mashed potatoes.

Michelle L.

Yelp
We like to visit local restaurants when we travel. The food was wonderful and the service great. Get there early by lunch there was a line!

Naomi P.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I had been moving from Colorado to Nebraska the last two days. We have always enjoyed this place and had exceptional service and food on Mothers Day. So we stopped. Exhausted and ready to have some coffee and a nice dinner. The atmosphere is exactly what we look for to have a nice quiet meal and usually morning coffee. Unfortunately, It is the first time we had the worst service imaginable. After sitting we were handed menus. Then were ignored for 10 min before our server Angel came and asked what we wanted to eat. My boyfriend had noted that another server who was leaving for the evening pointed out to our sever that we had not been helped. Prior to that we weren't asked if we wanted anything to drink. We were never offered refills for our coffee or water at any time. We couldn't get our server to even look at us to ask for anything. After we received our meal and ate, we were never given a check for our bill, we had to go ask another server for it. We weren't offered to go boxes for the food we didn't finish, again we had to ask another server. The food was good an i recommend the food but get up and move to any other service area that Angel is not serving. Her behavior made our experience there awful and I hope her manager reads this review. She should not be allowed to work in food service.

Cheyenne D.

Yelp
I needed a nice hot meal before I hit the road again! This was the place!! Food was delicious

Layne J.

Yelp
Never had any problem with the service. And the food is generally good here. But they had problems today. Went and sat at the counter. Some older guy came to give the menu and ask my drink. In just a minute he was there with my coffee and already expected me to know what I wanted. Gimme a few minutes please. It was like maybe 15 minutes he finally came back. Ordered the country skillet with mushrooms please. Waited for at least twice as long that it should have taken to get this done. And yet after all that time it was only lukewarm. The skillet was supposed to have sausage in it. I guess it did was so minced into teeny tiny pieces you couldn't tell it was there. Come on man. And then only 3 little slivers of mushrooms in the whole thing. Seriously? I mean come on man! I've been here a few times in the past and never had such ridiculous problems. So hopefully they do better the next time I come in. I don't want to have to cross another one off the list.

Terry K.

Yelp
This place is your typically average diner. The food is as expected. You get good food served hot and the service is good also. I had breakfast and it was good and the coffee was hot.

Ethan M.

Yelp
The only reason I stopped here because the I-80 closed and I needed a place to park. But I'm glad I did because I had a pretty good breakfast here. I ordered the ham & cheese omelet with an English muffin and and the 3 small pancakes. Now I will say this it was nothing special. But it was good food, except for the cheddar cheese on the omelet. I would prefer American. The reason for 4 stars is because the restroom was small and could use some attention.

Erin B.

Yelp
Had to come all the way from Pennsylvania for my husband to have the best Philly cheesesteak and homemade fries he's ever eaten. I had the Country fried Steak and it was delicious. Our server was a great girl, and the manager was phenomenal, while handling a ridiculous, unruly customer who put up a fuss to get a free meal. We were happy to pay for ours. Delicious.

Robert J.

Yelp
Great service and great food. The bacon cheeseburger was delicious and the homemade fries were to die for. I stop and eat here whenever I'm in Cheyenne.

Richard S.

Yelp
Not very good. Ate dinner and breakfast here as we are traveling and it was next to where we were staying. Pork chop cooked to leather, burnt bacon etc. Most food canned or frozen and reheated. Nothing was really very good. I hate to knock small businesses -- they've all had a very tough time. Next time in Cheyenne we'll go elsewhere.

Patrisha P.

Yelp
I was not impressed by this diner. I try to be,but no. Cursing from the staff, faint odor of pot, food was not ok,if its on ur menu learn to cook it correctly. Our waitress was not a happy person. She wasnt rude tho. So after this unpleasant experience,i asked to speak to the manager. Who smelled of alcohol. So trust me if all of the above is how you like ur experience, then by all means this is ur place. It didnt feel down home to me.

J B.

Yelp
I walked here from the Nissan Dealer while our LEAF electric vehicle was charging there and had a very nice Veggie Omelette with home fries, mini pancakes, and coffee for $11.00. The food and service both were very good. It's nice to be able go add this as another place in Cheyenne where a vegetarian can get a good meal. I really like that they cooked everything without drowning it in oil. The home fries were unsalted so the customer can add it or not according to their own tastes. The tables have a fun assortment of condiments. The omelette was "griddle style" (rolled up / folded), cooked perfectly, veggies inside distinct, diced green chiles tasty but not overpowering. The coffee was good enough to drink black.

Laura R.

Yelp
For the price you can't say no honestly. Relaxed and easy access off the highway. Small town Diner food not your egg and I people. So accept just the black coffee no flavors and the not over ten bucks most meals price. They make their fries from scratch in house. I love their tea tray tho and how they bring lots of crackers for soups.

Kathy L.

Yelp
As I travel, I like to try independent restaurants and stay away from chains. Stopped here since it was on the Lincoln Highway and it seemed to have some fairly good reviews on their burgers. I know it isn't 'right' to order your meat well done, but that is how I like it. Unfortunately, the burger I received was pink nearly throughout. I was able to salvage 1/4th of my burger. I wasn't that hungry, and pressed for time, so I didn't mess with sending it back. The waitress noticed and was very willing to get a new burger or remove the charge entirely; I insisted on paying, which she reluctantly agreed to (remember, she didn't want to charge me at all), but insisted on giving me a significant discount. For those of you who question why I didn't have her entirely remove the charge, since I didn't give them the opportunity to make it right, I don't feel I should have the charge removed Wait staff was very friendly and everyone else seemed to enjoy their food tremendously. I would be willing to give them a second chance.

Lee G.

Yelp
If you value your health DO NOT EAT HERE This place is awful. Where to start??? Maybe with the guy moping the floors cussing up a storm. Now I'm not afraid to drop a 4 letter word but there is a time and place and on the restaurant floor is NOT that time or place. I probably should have left at that point but I didn't. Ordered a simple hamburger, cooked medium with fries. 22 minutes later I looked at my wife and said no way they cooked this right. I was unfortunately correct. When it came it was so overcooked, and the fries were burned but limp. Only way that happens is cooked in oil not hot enough. When I told my waitress about the fries she shrugged her shoulders said "I get complaints but the kitchen says they have to mix the oils or something like that". So what that means is rather than using new fresh ingredients they just marry the new oil with the old.... Uh how old exactly is the oil that's AWFUL. Wife took a bite of the chili and said it was worse than a can of Hormel. Ouch. Don't eat here as the staff is unprofessional and knowingly let's you order old awful food

Michael W.

Yelp
Would love if they dolled up the place a little, but the appearance just seems like one of those old run-down diners which hooks onto a gas station. The staffed seemed nice enough and were very much on their toes when serving all the customers. We ordered the Cheesy Toast which was a toasted cheese sandwich on Texas toast along with a side of your choice. This was the wife's choice - I tried it and was pretty damn good! I had the meatloaf, however they had a special on the night we went were there which came with all you can eat meatloaf. It wasn't too bad but didn't go over the top with getting more. We also got some pie - she got cherry where I got the classic Apple. They were nice, however they didn't come out standard with ice cream or whipped cream which was fairly disappointing.

Shannon P.

Yelp
Friendly service our food was great we would definitely come here again kilowatt coming through Cheyenne are here for another wrestling tournament.Restaurant is attached to a gas station near a bunch of hotels

Angie O.

Yelp
Good food and good service...My daughters and i ordered the Chopped Steak dinner, the Country Fried Steak dinner, the Fish dinner, and quesadillas. First, the chopped steak with mashed potatoes and brown gravy was delicious. I just wish the mushrooms on top were fresh and not canned. Also, the veggie side was definitely out of the can as well and bland. Next, my youngest daughter said that the country fried steak was good. She also had a fresh side salad and a delicious ham and bean soup. Lastly, the quesadillas were good, and the fish was crispy and tasty. We will be back if we are ever in Cheyenne again.

Damion M.

Yelp
An awesome place to eat great prices great food good quality people very friendly and I got out if you need three people for under thirty bucks

Karl H.

Yelp
The name says it all. The menu items are what you would expect from a diner. The food is good, breakfast is big. The ham steak is the biggest anywhere around. That is why I am writing this review, it deserves special mention here! My family eats here and are always pleased. Breakfast and lunch I can say are good, I've never been here for dinner. Service has been ok, they work at doing the right thing. We will be back again.

Aaron R.

Yelp
Will not go back! I ordered biscuits and gravy with two eggs. The biscuits were soggy like they were heated up in a microwave. The gravy was nasty, I'm sure it was caned gravy. The only thing that was good was the eggs. But it's really hard to screw those up. I don't advise breakfast here. I Haven't tried anything thing else so it could be better.

Joe S.

Yelp
Saw some not so good reviews before sticking my head in this place. I found it to be clean and orderly! Somewhat surprising because it's part of a gas/convenience store. The wife and I decided to give it a try and were very pleased. Both the service and food was great! The coffee was amazing and fresh even though it was 6pm at night. The waitress was energetic and easily handled the six or so occupied tables. The cook even came out to our table apologizing when one of our first choices was unavailable. They graciously made up for it. The food was standard fare for a diner. We had a patty melt and a steak. Both were wonderful. I would imagine the other food would be just as good.

Lorri M.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I were in Cheyenne for a few days for Frontier Days. Yesterday morning we went looking for a simple breakfast. We walked in wasn't busy at that time. Sign said seat yourself so we sat at one of the least sticky tables. Not a single employee greeted us. We may as well have been invisible. Sat for 10 minutes no one approached us at all. So we left. We have eaten here several times in the past few years. The first few times were fine. The last 2 have not been good. I don't play baseball so you don"t get 3 strikes with me. 2 strikes you"re out!!!

Matt F.

Yelp
Ok. I read the other reviews and I think the other diners may have been too adventurous with their orders here. I got a burger and fries. It was amazing. Clearly made with fresh beef. The bun was fresh and grilled nicely, and the fries were fresh-cut. You can't ask for more from a quaint diner burger. Ordered a side salad to start. Sad iceburg lettuce with a couple cucumber slices and a few cherry tomatoes - but I didn't expect these guys to get the salad perfect. Get the burger!

Michele M.

Yelp
Best truck stop diner in town! LOVE the fresh cut fries! Friendly staff and very Down Home atmosphere!

Chuck F.

Yelp
Chuck F. My boss and I like to meet here in the mornings since it is so close to the highway. We have eaten here several times and have had a great experience every time. The restaurant is clean and the staff is very friendly and attentive. Our food is served very quickly and is always fresh! I love their hash browns! You will not get to the bottom of your coffee mug because they are constantly refilling it! I would highly recommend this Diner for a standard fair breakfast!

Jess C.

Yelp
Where do I begin? We felt unwelcome from the moment we walked in the door. Feeling like you are a burden for ordering lunch is hard to come back from, but the food was also terrible. Heard the staff complaining loudly about the fact they were busy (there were at most 8 customers) & even had one staff member joke about wanting to quit while taking our bill. I will not be coming back

Kitty K.

Yelp
Came up to see the eclipse, and it was my daughter's bday. I told her diners are hit or miss. This was a HUGE miss for our party of four. $7.99 for five mozzarella sticks. Pork sandwich was a handful of meat on a burnt hot dog bun. Two ordered burgers, one the cheese and bacon was left off, yet we were charged for it and the manager made it clear it was an inconvenience to change it. The burgers were burnt meat, and cold. I never got a re-fill on my coffee. My chili, on the other hand, was excellent. It wasn't hot, but that was OK, as I like chili to cool down a little before I eat it. Go to the next exit and pay for a good meal at any other restaurant that is there.

Jeremy T.

Yelp
Just a diner on the interstate in Wyoming at the upper terminus of a series of cities that stretch through Colorado (so if you're hungry, this is a good place to stop). It's near the intersection of I-25 and I-80 when you see all of the truck stops, down the main road a little bit. The service was friendly, consisting of what seemed like two overworked waitresses. Nevertheless, they were on top of it. You can also order your burger without a side and it's a little cheaper, if you don't want to feel super greasy in the car. You pay at the register and seat yourself. P.S. - There are more reviews for this place under Crossroads Diner (they changed their name).
