Glad i skipped out on going to a sit down restaurant and over paying for not so great BBQ. i got the spare rib plate with a pulled pork sandwich! Ribs were absolutely amazing fall off the bone meat with amazing texture and amazing smell! best ribs i’ve had in years! pulled pork is top tier! You can tell a lot of love and time goes into this great BBQ! Thank you for the welcoming great vibes!

Everything looked so good! I got it all and I’m glad I did! I was drawn in by their *special* brisket chili! Amazing for a cold winter day! Layers of flavor with melt in your mouth brisket! As I was waiting for my family to come home to eat, I snacked and took a bite of each dish! I’m normally not a fan of smoked turkey… this was the exception. Flavorful moist and well seasoned. The Mac was creamy and the greens hit the spot. Don’t forget the sausage: just the right amount of heat. Rico was a pleasure and I’ll definitely be back again. 100% recommend. Def give this place a try! Great portions. Great prices and exceptional service. I just had to give them their flowers!

Google
They were very grateful for our business and I was very grateful for the best sausage I've ever tasted. I had family in town, so of course they need to eat Texas BBQ. We ordered the Big Mama sampler and it was a very large portion. The brisket had incredible smoke flavor with an excellent bark on the outside--my wife's favorite part. The turkey and pulled pork were also delicious, but to me the clear winner was the hot link. I've never had a sausage packed with so much flavor. We will definitely be back.

Google
Man what a great place. I got half a pound of brisket, extra pickles and onions, and some sauce just like I always do. The brisket was tender but still had some chew to it and it held together well which basically means it was smoked perfectly. Friendly guy as well serving up the meats. Check it out, you won’t be disappointed. My only suggestion is to create your own sauce instead of the sweet baby rays. If your brisket is that good, I know you’ll make a better sauce than the rays, and people will appreciate that you handmade all of it! Good stuff, thank you!

Google
The food was amazing! The smokiness and flavor of the brisket, ribs, and mac and cheese were so delicious!

Google
Was craving pulled pork, saw it was 5 minutes away. Noticed they call this the " Best BBQ " I didn't believe it until I tried it... Truly delicious taste, quality but their service is what truly amazed me. Met the owner, Rico, gave us the history of his business , and even invited us to a Memorial Day party ! Go show some love to Rico & his BEST BBQ !! 😋😋

Shouldn’t be me to teach a restaurant how to properly run a business. But I will start by saying make enough meals portions per day so that you don’t serve costumers stale Mac n cheese from the day prior. Keep your food fresh. Lastly the Bbq you sent out was hard and stale like it could’ve been 2 days old. Make your brisket daily not twice a week. Do better. You guys went from good to trash quick. Trying to save money by serving day old and 2 day old cookings is the fastest way to go out of business.

Google
After reading reviews I had to try last week and I was not disappointed. We got a half pound each of baby back ribs, chopped bbq, and brisket plus 2 containers of the collards. All the meat was great though the brisket was a tiny bit saltier than I like on the yummy charred pieces but I’ve cut way back on my salt since a TIA in Jan. My husband thought it was excellent. But now listen to this 79yr old: get some collards!!! Yes, they cost $4 for a small container but they are organic and out of this world perfection. You know someone from the south cooked these babies: meat flavor and just the right bit of kick. I’d buy by the quart if I could!

Yelp
I've had their food once before a couple years ago when they catered in the lobby of my office building in DT Austin, and I gotta admit it wasn't amazing. However I wanted to try them again and hot dayum I was impressed. Got the sampler platter to try a little of everything, and the rub they used on their brisket and spare ribs is so tasty. The pulled pork was tender and juicy as well. Sausage was okay, but that's never been my go-to anyway so take that maybe at face value if you're a big sausage fan. Sauce wasn't needed for the ribs (seriously, so tasty) but complimented the brisket very well. As for the sides we got Mac n cheese and potato salad. We didn't love the bacon in the mac n cheese suprisingly, but the texture of the MnC was exactly what we look for with a fresh serving. The potato salad was mayo based which I definitely don't prefer, but the egg or something they had in it made it taste a lot better than your standard mayo potato salad. Definitely recommend this hidden gem to others!

Yelp
Since we didn't have a car to get around Austin, I had to order delivery through UberEATS instead. Even if the meats were not too warm anymore when they arrived, the smoke wafted through the hotel room as soon as I opened the bag inviting us to dig into BBQ feast. Down South BBQ is our first intro to Austin BBQ and has now set the bar high for the rest of BBQ joints we're going to check out through the week. I've previously had "Texas BBQ" in California, Seattle and Toronto but they do not come close to the smokiness and flavor from Down South. My favorite was the brisket which was well-marbled and had a perfect smoked crust - so tender, juicy and packed with a smoky punch. You can skip the Smoked Gouda Mac and Cheese and get more meats instead!

Yelp
My husband and I popped over to Texas to surprise my mom for her birthday, and we did not want to surprise her with having to cook for us so we decided to get some BBQ. We ordered ribs, brisket, baked beans, and potato salad. The order also came with bbq sauce, onions, pickles, and bread. Everything was awesome. My aunt said she would marry the owner because of how good the ribs were. My favorite part was the rub on both the brisket and ribs. Ribs had a tiny bit of spice and the brisket was a good salty/peppery crust. I'm pretty particular about bbq sauce and usually make my own. Down South Texas's sauce did not disappoint. The potato salad had a little bit of sweetness to it which was interesting and awesome. The location is pretty easy to get to and is in a small food truck park. I always love food truck parks because if you're with some weirdo who doesn't like bbq there are options around for everyone to enjoy. It's also great for covid-friendly outdoor dining. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Omg if you love BBQ like I do then this is the place you should go to. You know the BBQ is delicious if you don't need any sauce on it. Y'all they have rib tips its hard trying to find a BBQ place that sells rib tips (it's a Chicago thing) the brisket is oh so tender, the greens and macaroni are mouth watering and the beans are absolutely delicious hurry up and get there before they sell out
google avatar

Peyton W.

Yelp
My go to for brisket nachos and like always they come thru. Can't go wrong here. A must try!

Damon S.

Yelp
They were closed when it said open This is the third time I have driven all the way over there to find that the food truck is closed. I know it is hot, but it should be advertised that the business is not open.

Yelp
Came to our office complex for Fooda Friday. Brisket was moist, tender and not overly fatty. Generous thick slices for a lunch plate. Unfortunately both the potato salad and the baked beans had a sour taste, as if they were on the verge of spoiling. Wish they offered a slice of bread, pickles and onions with their plate. Overall another just okay BBQ place.

Yelp
Just opening the bag smelled like heavenly smoked goodness ... Born and bred Texan here. Down South is for sure worth your time and money. The brisket had an on point pepper/smoke flavor. The sides were all delicious. We look forward to more bbq here in the future!!

Yelp
My boy never disappoints. The sampler filled me up with extra Mac N Cheese. Saved my Turtle brownie for later, Thanks Mama!

Yelp
The only reason that I gave a 3 is because there was a broken toothpick in my greens. That took my appetite away

Yelp
As a lifelong Texas resident and BBQ lover I highly recommend this place! For under $20 you will get filled up! I had the "Big Texas" which was a sandwich filled with pulled pork, sausage, brisket, and mac'n cheese ! It was literally overflowing with meat! I didn't eat breakfast this morning so I was pretty freaking hungry. I decided to order an extra taco, but after eating the sandwich I didn't even touch the taco. If you come here you will not be disappointed! Oh lastly, the customer service was good too. Cool genuine guys. 10/10 I highly recommend!

Kevin Y.

Yelp
Great option for some BBQ in austin. Getting the sampler with some rib tibs. Sandwiches are great too!

Yelp
First time trying this food truck. Service was quick, guy working there was real nice but most of all the brisket taco was amazingly good! Definitely recommend and will be back for more things on the menu

Yelp
I had the pulled pork plate and it was excellent- soft tender meat topped with sauce. Price is reasonable. This trailer is a good find. The black guys that run this place are cool. I have since returned to Los Angeles from my Austin vacation and just want to say that you guys living here are lucky. I wish I could eat food like this more often.

Yelp
Used Uber eats. Most tasty sandwich I've ever had. Love the burnt ends added. Sausage link very spicy. Mac n cheese very delicious.
google avatar

Jarvis H.

Yelp
This place is really good! I had the ribs, brisket, corn, and Mac and cheese! Everything was spot on. It has flavor and seasoned perfectly. If you want some BBQ go check it out

Yelp
I have passed this location of food trucks many times, always busy.... and as a food delivery driver I have picked up from them many times. Saturday I was able to patronize them myself and ordered a rib plate. All I can say is that I'm so glad I did! I will absolutely return. The ribs were meaty and delicious... with or without the delicious BBQ sauce. I chose the organic collard greens and 4-cheese Mac n cheese for my sides and will do so again! A great find for me!
google avatar

Jasmine J.

Yelp
I have ordered twice and the BBQ was great both times! The brisket (and I hate brisket), ribs, sausage were soo good and the collard greens This is now my go to for bbq

Carol F.

Yelp
Ordered a sampler plate through Favor. The sausage is not for me, but I'm admittedly a picky eater; it had an unfamiliar flavor I didn't care for. The brisket and pulled pork are quite tasty, but the star, IMO, is the spare ribs! The are meaty and moist, and seasoned just right. I'm low carb and don't like collard greens, so no sides for me. I'll definitely be back for those ribs!

Yelp
Wow, just wow. Ordered via Ubereats as the other place we normally order from, did not take orders. One thing for sure will not order from the other place again, this is hands down my new favorite. So smokey, ribs are falling off the bone and the rub on them is amazing, my brother-in-laws commented on the Brisket as the best he had so far in Austin, and trust me we had a lot of BBQ in the last 12+years. The pulled pork can take on any Carolina pork BBQ anywhere. All the sides are fantastic, but the corn & collard greens stand out. This is slow smoked BBQ of the very best variety and we already plan to go over to meet the pit master. Who ever is the pit-master/mistress you are amazing!

Wendy M.

Yelp
‍‍Run, do not walk to this little hidden gem! Baby back ribs like no other around the ATX! Finally someone who knows how to smoke and season meat!
google avatar

Jay B.

Yelp
The food there is absolutely amazing! Apparently the owners grand-mother makes the sides, and I have to say, they are amazing. I know southerners are particular about their potato salad, but I PROMISE, you won't be disappointed.

Stephen K.

Yelp
Ordered once thru grubhub and was super impressed at taste, high quality, great value. Ordered 2lbs prime brisket and a smoked chicken for our small family and wow the food was amazing. Some of the best BBQ I've had in Austin.
google avatar

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
This barbecue was very delicious. Delivery was fast and food was hot! If you haven't tried this place your missing out! I definitely will be ordering again.
google avatar

Tristan B.

Yelp
They came to my building today via Fooda, and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. (I'm always skeptic w/ Fooda, but the convenience...) I got the pulled pork plate and the pork was tender and juicy, fell apart easily. Flavor was pretty good and I like that some of the burned edges were still crispy. The Mac n cheese wasn't bad either! I'm glad it wasn't very salted, as it complemented the pork well. It also had a sort of smoky flavor. It's not a very creamy Mac n cheese for any who dislike the drier types. Lastly, the potato salad was very tasty--though I would have liked a little more of the salad and less potato. FYI their Mac n cheese has bacon in it. But it's a bbq place so maybe a given. Quite good! I'll try to remember to update this once I've had their brisket.
google avatar

Matthew W.

Yelp
Best brisket tacos in Austin I've had!! I'll drive out of my way just to spend all my money here. Also their smoked Mac and cheese should not be slept on. One last thing. The folks that own and work here are some of the most wonderful people you'll meet. If you're ever in the area make sure to stop at this amazing BBQ truck.

Sue T.

Yelp
I just got an ordered delivered from here and the food was terrible. The brisket was dry and chewy and very difficult to eat. Their potato salad was not what I was expecting and not like anything other potato salad I have seen. The beans were good.
google avatar

Seth J.

Yelp
These guys have been catering at my workplace and on the days they are scheduled, we see the longest lines of any caterer. The meat selection is top quality whether it's brisket or pork. Servings are generous. Love the side of Mac-n-cheese-n-bacon. Can't wait for their next visit!
google avatar

Yelp
best texas bbq everrrrr!!!!! order it all! yummy and juicyyy! bbq sauce is mouth drooling
google avatar

Kristen P.

Yelp
Well this was a mistake. I'm ashamed it carries Texas in its name. Texans know how to BBQ. This should be called Down South Rhode Island. The greens are bitter but you don't realize how bitter until the shock of a ghastly amount of salt disappears. The corn had zero of the promised flavors. In fact it was so over cooked it was almost a kernel again. Dehydrated. Just add water to eat. Mac n cheese was bloated and over cooked. Nothing creamy about it at all. Chunky cheese, ugh. But the meats, the meats. Dry. Crunchy. Just like you'd expect from Rhode Island. Save yourself. Get the McRib at Mcdonalds.
google avatar

Emerald H.

Yelp
I bought some ribs with a side of the organic collard greens, Mac and cheese, and cornbread for someone. I had a taste of everything and I am convinced that the cooks at Down South Texas BBQ pray without ceasing. I came back within the same hour to buy myself a plate.

Curtis B.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch. Got brisket and ribs. The brisket is some of the best BBQ Brisket I have ever had! Delicious flavor and moist. Don't let the food truck style fool you, this place has it going on! If you're brisket or BBQ lover, I highly recommend trying this place out. I will be returning.

Jhanelle S.

Yelp
Hands down the BEST BBQ you will find here in Austin!! The food is consistently good and fresh, everything I've tried has been GOODT Brisket bomb, Spare Ribs bomb, Pulled pork fire!! My boyfriend always gets the brisket sammich and it's fire as well, I on the other hand am going for the entire menu( I do reorder the same items so far as they're always just that damn good) but I'm working on trying the whole menu eventually!! The Greens w the hot water cornbread is sooooooo good, Baked beans never fail, Mac is good you just really can't go wrong here!! I highly recommend!! I'm also a pregnant mama who needs all the good protein and this spot right here is one of mine & baby's favorite tooo!! And make sure you ask about the deserts cause BABY Mmmm-Mmmm GOOD!! That Cheesecake deserves an award!!!

Vanessa F.

Yelp
Like my daughter said"it's bussing" . I been there 2 times all ready and it hasn't disappoint yet!
google avatar

Dave H.

Yelp
Reviewed this place so I can remember it! The food was great! Brisket was moist and tasted great! I usually don't buy from a good truck but this was definitely a place you should not judge by its cover!

Oseni M.

Yelp
Really good and tasty! Two of my coworkers rave about it after I told them how much I enjoyed the very first order. My second order was just as equally as good!!
google avatar

Shanda S.

Yelp
First of all...BaeBay! Let me tell you about their corn. What? I was not expecting so much flavor. Getting only one was definitely faulty judgment on my part. But it was my first time eating here so I'll extend myself some grace. I read another review about ordering through UberEats so I went that route. Quickly the driver arrived. I was quite impressed. I mean the truck is only 4 miles away and the food is not made to order but sometimes it still can take forever for deliveries. Not this time. I ordered the pulled pork plate with Mac n cheese & collards with a side of corn. There was so much delicious pulled pork I have enough for a sandwich for lunch tomorrow. I ate all the Mac n cheese and all the corn and all the collards. I think I got the bottom of the pan on the Mac n cheese but it was good nevertheless. I believe it was close to closing time when I placed my order. I will go around lunch time next time. I could actually just eat sides at this place they are that good. Overall, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this eatery. And don't forget...2 orders of corn. You won't regret it!!

G C.

Yelp
Best plate of bbq I've had in years. Everything was on point. Everyone was nice and great atmosphere.

Sandra B.

Yelp
I love the ribs and the brisket. They are always so nice and the sides are so good!!

Osei A.

Yelp
Had the rib plate today..... best bbq I've had in years. Perfectly flavoed rub with tender meat but still some chew. The mac n cheese was smoky and full of flavor while the greens could rival the best soul food restaurants. Great food and plentiful portion at a reasonable price

Daniel T.

Yelp
Stopped here after some hard hours after my job . Had 4 brisket tacos . No complaints at all. I was so hungry after the scrap yard I had to eat something. Man I will definitely be back . I love the kick in those brisket tacos and flavor. Reminds me of home.

Lakeisha R.

Yelp
Their service is A1 and the brisket nachos are to die for. Chips could be more fresh. I think I order smoked Mac n cheese twice a week! Love this place.

Josh W.

Yelp
Best BBQ sandwiches around hands down! As a self proclaimed BBQ expert I have struggles paying for someone else's BBQ, but the Little Texas sammich was worth every penny! Loaded with meat, covered is tasty queso, with just enough kick to notice. Rico puts all the commercial joints to shame!

Whitney M.

Yelp
Mixed bag. I went because it was close to work and I love BBQ. My wife and I loved the pulled pork nachos. I also liked the potato salad. The brisket was dry which was super disappointing. Mac and cheese was burnt. I actually thought there was bacon on it, but no. Just burnt pasta. There was also veeeery little to no cheese on the MAC AND CHEESE. The only flavor it had whatsoever was smoke. Truly bizarre. I don't see how mac and cheese can be so wrong.
