New York City’s 12 Best Farmers Markets to Visit This Fall | Eater

"This neighborhood market in artsy Chelsea is a relaxing place to stroll around and load up on first-rate seasonal produce without fighting the crowds. As you walk, pick up a freshly baked baguette from the Orwasher’s Bakery stand and a jar of red pepper jam from Anna Maria’s, and you’ve got the perfect snack. Don’t leave without stocking up on boxes of frozen dumplings from Asian Farmer (filled with local pork, chicken, or veggies), and grab a free dumpling sample for the road." - Vox Creative

Down to Earth Chelsea Farmer's Market at 23rd st and 9th ave), open from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm from late April to late December on Saturdays. A new organic no-spray farm called Berry Brook Farm from Hamden, NY has replaced echo creek at echo creek's recommendation with similar growing practices, with no sprays at all, better and fresher than organic produce in grocery stores that are less local and tend to have scheduled sprays. Fino Farms is also new, and specializes in orchard fruit, and also grows vegetables. Jersey Farm Produce is back again in 2023 and I believe is no-spray except for spray as needed for the apples which have no wax.. Orwashers is a NYC bakery at this market and was founded in year 1916, and has whole grain natural sourdough breads with local NY State and organic grains, and has baked goods and pastries brought fresh from the NYC bakery in the morning. The staff here is very knowledgeable about the ingredients and the craft of bread making, pastries, and varieties and sourcing of grains. - 7/1/2023: favorites from Orwasher's are the spelt/whole wheat /millet/raisin/ sunflower seed unleavened bread, and the ultimate organic nys whole wheat loaves of bread. - 7/1/2023: Now in the summer, Berry Brook Farm has a nice selection of gold potatoes, turnips, radishes, broccolini, mustard greens, tuscan kale, red beefsteak, german bicolor heirloom tomatoes, and many other no-spray vegetables, all displayed in wooden and metal crates.

Google
Not the best selection for this small farmers market. But some good vendors.. some every week. Others once a month. Highly recommend orswashers bread Bombay chutney roti. Everything homemade and she's there just once a month. Berry Brook for good organic produce jersey farm for in season peaches.

Google
Really nicely balanced farmers market. Fresh seafood from Montauk by P&S Seafood, upstate fruits and vegetables, Merediths baked goods, Meats and much more. Take a stroll and support local business!

Google
They're great and all over the NYC and Westchester area. I bought some great bourbon once. Didn't know you could buy booze at farmers markets! Also a must for pickle lovers.

So much variety, great quality, fresh products, lovely sales people. You'll want to come back again and again.

Google
It's small but has some good stands. Great honey. Good produce at reasonable prices. Social distancing mostly practiced. Only reason for 4 stars is it's small.

Google
It's incredibly convenient for me and I can avoid public xport, but it's way more expensive than the Union Square Greenmarket, so problematic for a lot of families, I would think

Yelp
I prefer the Chelsea Farmers Market to the union square one. Although it has less vendors, it is much cheaper for essentially the same quality. This is where I get all my fresh fruits and veggies. They have an Orwasher's vendor too which is awesome! Definitely worth checking out. I do wish it was year round though.

Yelp
It's not the Union Square Farmer's Market but you can get fresh vegetables, fruits, bread, whiskey(!), pies, cookies here.

Yelp
Great variety of food, produce, Orwasher's bread and gluten free bread, fish from the fisherman, meat from the farmer, cheese from the guy who makes the cheese, tempeh, great produce and booze. Early in the season they have all sort of plants and herbs too. I love this market!

Yelp
