Best Pool Bars in Austin Hotels | Eater Austin

"Downright’s Palm Springs vibe, with pink chairs and tiles surrounding its pool, makes for a distinct selfie moment. The on-site restaurant, Swim Club, serves a fun and playful lineup of bites, including sour cream and onion dip with housemade salt and vinegar chips, lobster sliders, fire-roasted cauliflower, and a club sandwich aptly named the Swim Club Club. The cocktail menu is a raft of silly names, with drinks like the Sharks in the Water (vodka, gin, blue curacao, pineapple, coconut, and Giffard framboise floater) and the Performance Anxiety (vodka, Licor 43, citrus, passion fruit, and a prosecco floater). Purchase a day pass online." - Darcie Duttweiler

New Downtown Austin Hotel Will Have Restaurants From Miami’s Lost Boy and Co. | Eater Austin

"I'm told a new hotel is coming to downtown Austin with two restaurants and bars from Miami’s Lost Boy & Co. in collaboration with local FBR Management; the property at 701 East 11th Street will open sometime in the spring and include a sunken lounge with under-the-water views of the next-door pool plus a lobby café offering breakfast, coffee, and a walk-up takeout counter. The rest of the Downright will feature guest rooms and suites, indoor and outdoor event spaces, and a whole hip, bright aesthetic — lots of pinks, geometric shapes, checkerboard designs, and plants — and it will operate under Marriott while taking over the current Sheraton at the Capitol (which remains open for bookings during renovations)." - Nadia Chaudhury

Visiting with my wife for the holidays, the moment we walked in Jose Sepuleda made our stay special. His attentiveness, empathy, professionalism and outstanding customer service truly made us feel right at home. Honestly any hotel you visit are a dime a dozen these days, if you've been to one, you have been to them all. What truly makes any place special are the people working on the team and representing the business they work for. The people are what make or break a business, the people are what keep customers coming back and the people are what you remember when you leave. Jose truly left an impression on us! Because of Jose and the rest of the front desk personnel, we will be returning customers!

I stayed at the Renaissance Austin Downtown (Marriott Hotel), and while the location and city views were beautiful, the service was extremely disappointing. For a four-star Marriott, this was the worst housekeeping I’ve experienced anywhere in the world. When we arrived around 7 p.m., we were a couple, and there was only one bathrobe in the room. I requested an additional one, but nobody delivered it that night. The next day they finally brought a robe - but without the tie belt, so I had to request it again, and it arrived only late in the evening. I also asked for room cleaning twice, but after housekeeping finally came, the room was still left dirty: the table was not wiped, pillows were on the floor, used towels were misplaced, and no new toiletries, coffee, or tea were provided. Two front desk agents were aware of the issue, but neither was helpful. Unfortunately, I didn’t get their names - they weren’t friendly or approachable enough to even ask. One was a man with an earring in his left ear who interrupted me twice while I was talking, and the other was a woman with short hair who promised to send tea but never did. Later that night, housekeeping brought caffeinated tea instead of peppermint, and no one corrected it. To make things worse, during checkout, an employee named Cesar accidentally hit my eye with a luggage tag clip, leaving it red and swollen for more than a day. Beautiful hotel, but terrible management and service. Definitely not the level of care or professionalism expected from a Marriott.

Our stay was unfortunately very short so we weren't able to enjoy all the amenities. The room has a vintage-moody feel. My only complaint was maybe some brighter lighting especially in the restroom. Every employee we encountered went above and beyond for us. Special shoutout to Brookyln from valet and Cesar the bell person who were very attentive and made sure to give our pet extra love and attention.

I had originally left a great review when I stayed here back in October, but I’ll be revoking that due to the accounting staff here charging me $1200 on my personal card that was placed for incidentals 2 MONTHS post trip. I was here on business and my company had paid for the trip and a week ago (December 2025) I got charged for my entire stay once more. I’ve tried to get ahold of the hotel multiple times and no one will get back to me. I don’t trust this establishment or Marriott for that matter for charging all that money to my account unannounced and 2 months later!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS

It is a nice hotel, clean and trendy. Nice clientele so it wasn’t loud or annoying in the shared spaces. The room was comfortable. I knocked off one star because parking costs $60 a night, which I feel is a hidden fee (you reserve the room thinking it is one price then you get there and it costs 25% more than you planned for a single night. Then they accidentally double charged us for parking, luckily my husband noticed and he tried to get them to fix it but I guess parking services are outsourced so the best they could do was charge us half price for the parking for two days so it was the right price but still incorrect. Not a bad hotel especially if you aren’t driving in, but if you are, consider the steep parking cost.

We are here to celebrate my daughter‘s 10th birthday and upon arrival Cesar, was supportive in both getting our bags to our room safely as well as creating a supportive environment for the kid like energy that entered the hotel that day. We were so appreciative that he was kind, gentlemanly And complementary to the children and their energy. It was a nice little spot on the start of a fun night. Now it’s the morning- the valet staff is killing it! The baristas at the coffee shop were lovely- the morning of getting alllllll the things in cars, all with smiles and kind energy. People doing their jobs well is a gift ☺️ Giselle taking old coffee cups out to make room for the fresh ones of the morning. Didn’t feel fake either, it was some human beings sharing good energy and being a lovely and supportive part of a little girls 10th birthday with some of her best Judy’s ☺️

Front desk staff are nice but ineffective. The Creekside waiters were great. (Harrison) |Stayed 4 nights. No room cleaning. |2nd time here. Last time here. Always something going on, sprinklers, elevators. |But, having to ask the front desk for towels more than once, is frustrating, and i wonder if they are overwhelmed, incompetent or lazy? ||Will not return.

The good. Stayed here for a week, rooms are a good size, decor is out of the 80's, so much pink and grey. Staff down in the swim club bar are a lot of fun. The location is good for downtown and to lea be the Austin area also. The bad, found blood over the bottom of my comforter/duvet, coffee machine malfunctioned and flooded the tray, asked for this to be sorted by housekeepers but this was not done. Housekeeping only there every other day, and one day they did not shut the door to my room properly, 723 door sticks in frame, if anyone from the hotel reads this. So anyone could have walked in while I was out. When asked if everything was ok with my stay AJ at reception game me a blank look and asked me to sign the tablet to compete my checkout. This while I was explaining the issues I had during the stay. He really could not care any less. When looking for a hotel I look for convenience, cleanliness, and security. This hotel failed on 2 of these, would not recommend.

Yelp
The good and the not so good and weird, based on a four night stay. Good: the blackout shades! That room stayed DARK! Also good: the bed and pillows! Huge huggy pillows and a nice mattress. The not so good: housekeeping! The housekeeping was inconsistent and required a few calls to get things right, including towels, coffee, and trash collection. They forgot one or more every day. The not so good: no iron! Okay hotels please stop with the steamers. No one wants a steamer. I had to call for an iron and board, which delayed my departure for my meeting. A steamer is ok if you just need to refresh, but some of us have actual clothes to prepare. Irons. Get them and put them in the rooms. The not so good: no drawers! Pack using your packing cubes and bring a laundry bag because you will not encounter drawers or a plastic bag in these rooms. The not so good: the closet! Actually it's a rack, and its position in the room facing the sink means that it blocks natural light. If you need more light for makeup you are out of luck. The not so good: no closeup mirror! You are stuck using the dimly lit sink mirror or the full length which is attached to the bathroom door and therefore out of the light because of the weirdly placed closet rack. The weird: the lobby! The lobby has an unbalanced aesthetic. Everything is located on the left side. But there's no seating near the entry doors. Instead, there's a long hallway with seating at the very far end. Now, there's a natural place for seating but it's used for plants. So if you are waiting for an uber you need to sit on the back side of the reception desk or in the back of the restaurant, which is weird. The weird: the room decor! It's brown, pink, another shade of brown, and green. It already looks dated. And the headboard is really low, but there's no art on the wall above so you are just looking at a salmon-belly colored wall. A higher headboard would have mitigated that, or some art. Instead there are two small pictures on the adjacent wall, which makes the lack of art above the bed feel like a budget decision, and a bad one. The weird: the swim club! It made no sense to me. The reception area from the hotel was always empty so it was unclear where to go, how to get a table. The stairs were full of people. The food was okay but the wine was meh, not cold or crisp. The lighting is unnatural and there was neon everywhere. The vibes were way off for me. In short, this place is ok for a night's stay, but beyond that it's inconsistent and aesthetically unpleasant. It's clearly refurbished but not done well.

Yelp
This place is an embarrassment to Marriott, as a Lifetime Titanium member, one of the worst properties I've ever visited, in fact was supposed to stay 2 nights, checked out after first night. - freeway noise is awful, close to 35 - parking is cramped and being charged $50 a day is simply ridiculous - front desk attitude was awful, like I'm lucky to stay at this hotel? - rooms fine, just too much noise This is not up to the quality of just a Marriott, much less a Renaissance, stay away!

Yelp
I was in Austin for a work trip and my company booked a hotel for me. My flight arrived very late so I wasn't able to check in until late and I found out that they double booked my room. The front desk girls called other hotels to find me a new room since they didn't have anymore rooms available that night, but their approach was inefficient and took hours, which resulted in me doing my own research to find an available room close by and I found it within 15 minutes and just booked it under my own credit card since I didn't want to wait anymore. They told me to come back tomorrow as they're only booked out for that night and that I should have a room tomorrow. I went back the next day and they were scrambling to find me a room which took about 15 minutes. They ended up telling me that my company credit card got declined and that they needed a new card. That was a bit confusing as my understanding is that hotels don't charge a card until we check out and typically there's a requirement to put down a credit card for security reasons anyway. Long story short, they ended up giving me someone else's room. I walked into my room and was welcomed to a card to some guys name Lance. The room was nice, but the experience was not worth it. I don't plan to stay here again and I don't recommend this hotel.

Yelp
Worst hotel I have stayed in for some time! I only stayed here because my usual hotel was unavailable! Next time I will not choose this one as an alternative! Arrived and the valet did not move from his post; I grabbed my suitcase, keys and walked up to him and he then asked if I wanted to park? Very odd! If you loved the pale salmon and green colors that are reminiscent of 80s hotels and offices then this is your place! Apparently recently remodeled - it is caught in a time warp! It might be a deliberate attempt to make it a retro Palm Springs vibe but it came across as a cheap remodel on the previously dated Sheraton that it was! Weird staff at valet and front desk - not particularly friendly! Being Marriott Ambassador I would expect a decent room - I don't ever want or need an upgrade on a business trip but when you spend over 23k a year and over 100 nights in a Marriott you don't expect to get a room where the view is completely obscured by a wall ( which was barely visible beyond the dirt ) when they had plenty of other rooms available! Room is more salmon pink ( carpet and walls ) and green! It's trying to be retro but it just looks tacky and old! Sink area is nice, BUT sink did not drain! 20 minutes after brushing my teeth, the water was still slowly draining! Bathroom has odd pink tiles like you would find in a Hospital ward! No cupboard - just a rack and some grey looking towels on a cheap and sad stand in the bathroom! Stains on the carpet added to the ick feel! Walls are PAPER thin! Hope for quiet neighbors so you can get some sleep! On a good note - the blinds are truly black out and despite sitting on I35, you cannot hear the traffic. Aveda toiletries also a nice touch. This is priced like a Renaissance but not on par with the brand! My total cost a night was $365 with valet but not worth it!

Yelp
Enjoyed our time at the Downright Austin. Kenny made our stay so easy. He answered all our questions about the facility and the Austin area. As far as the resort, it was very centrally located to downtown and very near the capitol. Great that not too close to the drama associated with 6th street. We opted for the King room on an upper level. The room was spacious. Enjoyed the shower and the bed was soft. The room contained a fridge which came into handy. Housekeeping did a good job of keeping our room cleaned and the resort overall was clean. If in town, I would stay here for the convenience. Pro: Morningbird restaurant was good. Swim club is best with a bar, pool table. Amenities for grooming are from Aveda. Cons: parking is absolutely too expensive!!!

Yelp
The hotel was cute overall and the stay was not terrible- but holy crud is this place over hyped. We went to the pool restaurant located at the bottom of the hotel. 4 drinks, ceviche, and a sandwich came out for $135. The drinks were about 12oz each ($15 a pop), the ceviche was terrible quality and tiny, and the sandwich was so dry. Service also took forever, I mean 30+ minutes for the drinks to come out when the place was dead. The pool is mediocre at best, and was very dirty. You couldn't see your feet when you were standing in the pool looking down. Rooms were decent but nothing special. Wouldn't come here again unless they greatly reduce prices across the board.

Yelp
The Downright Austin has been transformed into a Zoomer paradise. The lobby was very inviting with a coffee/cafe and nice Austin culture decor. The whole place looked very fresh and long way from the previous 1980's look. The staff was very friendly.

Yelp
Super cute hotel with SO much potential. The location is great and staff is VERY friendly. LOVE LOVE THE PINK!!! But, limited food/breakfast options at the hotel. The rooms seem to be inconsistent (my colleagues did not have soap or snacks). There is ice machine only on odd floors. The cleanliness was hit and miss, there was a sticker on the bathroom vanity from the previous guest.

Yelp
The bell hop & front desk staff friendly. The hotel has had a recent make-over. There's a retro vibe to it. The rooms were clean & spacious (we had a Capital view room). This place is great for short stay (concerts, games or a girls weekend). The decor in the hotel was fun - lots of insta photo ops for girls trips & the location was a direct walk to the moody center Less appealing: The plumbing in the room was a bit tired (shower drained slow & toilet needed to be held when flushing)

Yelp
This is just a review for Morningbird (the cafe in the hotel) I did not stay at the hotel. The people working at Morningbird are so sweet (: talked me through the menu and gave some good recs when I asked. The iced strawberry matcha was very good, strong matcha flavor and not too sweet which I like. Definitely on the pricy side at just under $9 (I got it with oat milk which was an additional charge). The grilled chicken green curry rice bowl was yummy and very filling. I def plan to come back earlier in the day next time yo try their breakfast options.

Yelp
The worst hotel I ever stay. I totally understand that you guys are changing the brand but the staff need to retrain in customer service. The restaurant closes too early and they cant accommodate. Late night shift staff seem irritating and unfriendly.

Yelp
They should have named this the DownWrong. We are business travelers and travel a lot, and mostly stay at Bonvoy properties and have never had a bad experience- until now. This place is a hot mess. I think the designers were going for a funky retro look - well It just comes off as Dollar Store Boutique. Our rate was $400 a night. For that you expect a great experience and surroundings. The place is stark, two small pictures in the entire room. Lighting terrible, it's hard to see to do your makeup or hair. Wait till you see the bathroom - it is reminiscent of a hospital or prison. The closet is just a metal coat rack - you know the kind your grandma put together for extra storage in the guest bedroom (only thing missing is some wheels) We are here at a conference of attorneys and financial professionals. I wanted to touch up my suit and put a fresh crease in my jacket - try doing that with a steamer, since there are no irons or ironing boards in the room. I had to call down to the desk at the last minute in the morning. Only to get an iron that left brown streaks on my suit. As I was leaving my room I wanted to store my valuables and passport in a safe - guess what, no safe! So I called down to the front desk and asked if they have safety deposit boxes, no boxes. So I ask what I'm supposed to do with my valuables, money, electronics while I'm not in the room. Their suggestion was just to find hiding places for them!!! So needless to say, I have been carting around a full heavy backpack all day. And we'll have to do that for the entire conference. Conveniently, just like sleazy parking garages there's a disclaimer on the door that the hotel is not responsible for stolen items. Note to Hotel - if you think your guests are leisure travelers and are set up for that, then you probably shouldn't book professional conferences, whatever your marketing consultants told you - they are wrong. Professionals want professional amenities you were terribly misguided. Your hotel seems more like a motel 8 at a Ritz price point. I'm was looking forward to some sun at the pool - that was closed There is loud banging going on in the walls during the day and night. Old pipes maybe? I complained on Twitter since the manager was not available- the response was pretty much "we don't care- it's your problem". Go Marriott! Anyway, there's a lot of great hotels in this area. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

Yelp
This is not up to the standards of an Autograph hotel. Room smelled of mold, was damp, and incredibly gloomy. While in the room I had severe allergies. Asked to be moved but was told there was not another room to move into. The lighting by the sink was horrible making it difficult to get ready. The noise level from outside kept me up all night. They said it was recently remodeled but whoever did it needs to find a different job. This hotel is not right. Completely down wrong

Sohrab Z.

Yelp
Worst ever. 15 people waiting for their room after 3pm and no help. Paid 1200 dollars to not even be able to check in at the 3pm check in time. Hispanic kid at front desk completely no help plus an attitude. Called corporate and they said they couldn't refund only mgr in duty. Kenny Ray was able to tell me he will refund my cost. Now I missed the F 1 race and am driving back to Houston as I speak!!! Mega complaint bc their ambassador members get to check out late which causes this..wtf!! Then they said we might be able to get you a room by 4pm ..yea right breach of contract give me my money back or I'll sue!!!!

Sara M.

Yelp
The hotel was great, the front desk girl Jordan was amazing. She was so kind and helpful. The hotel was clean the staff was great. The hotel is decorated with picture opportunities everywhere. The pool and pool restaurant and bar were great. Drinks are reasonably priced. We loved the hotel definitely would come back.

Yelp
Thank you Kenny and Suly, you were both very helpful. You helped make my day. Thank you again.
