Lower East Side’s Downtime Bar Is Under Fire for Hosting Harvey Weinstein at Young Actors Event | Eater NY

"I saw Yelp users flooding the Lower East Side venue with one-star reviews after reports that women were thrown out for confronting Harvey Weinstein during an artists-only event; the bar had hosted an event meant to support up-and-coming artists, and when Weinstein was spotted three women confronted him — two of them were eventually kicked out, according to reports. The backlash includes calls to boycott and at least one reviewer uploading a photo of Weinstein’s alleged victims; viral videos show comedian Kelly Bachman being booed and told to “shut up” when she called Weinstein “Freddy Krueger,” actor Zoe Stuckless pointing and yelling “Nobody’s really going to say anything?” before being kicked out, and attendee Amber Rollo tweeting she was thrown out after calling him a “monster” and saying “he should disappear.” Actors Hour said it did not invite Weinstein (an Instagram post since taken down), and Downtime Bar released a statement saying Actors Hour rented the bar for a private event with its own guest list." - Carla Vianna

Downtime was AMAZING!! I booked a table for my best friend’s bachelorette trip and our expectations were blown out of the water. We were greeted at the door with our WONDERFUL waitress, Emily, and were taken care of from the time we stepped foot in the door until we left. The vibes and atmosphere were immaculate, the smaller space made the night so intimate. We also felt safe and comfortable, which means everything!! I will be back and will recommend to anyone visiting the city! 100000/10!!!! LOVE DOWNTIME!!!!!!

Google
disappointingly and wholly unnecessarily genuinely rude and disrespectful bouncer. you could be white and wink at him though and he’d let you in with a smile. even though we were a group of 5 people there for our friends BIRTHDAY and he didn’t let us through though we had a paid table. He gave us the excuse of being packed and said we’d have to wait 30 minutes in the cold. We did. Because it was our friends birthday. Which was ending in 30 minutes….and then the guy proceeded to let a larger group of people than us cut the, now long, line entirely. And denied us entry after the birthday girl came to get us after all her friends had to disrupt the party to let people who are already on a list into the paid venue. Utterly shocking and his attitude was genuinely disgusting.

I recently visited downtime , while the bouncer and the rest of the staff were fantastic, my experience was completely ruined by one incredibly rude bottle girl. From the moment she approached our table, she was dismissive and condescending. Any questions we had were met with eye rolls and short, snappy answers. It felt like she couldn't be bothered to provide even a basic level of service. It's really unfortunate because the rest of the staff were amazing. The bouncer was friendly and professional, and the bartenders and bar backs were attentive and kind. However, the behavior of this one bottle girl left such a bad taste in my mouth that it's hard to overlook. I hope management addresses this issue, as it significantly impacted what could have been a great night out. Until then, I can't see myself returning or recommending this place to others. It's a shame one person can overshadow an otherwise excellent team.

Google
Bouncer was extremely weird and rude, made me and my whole group uncomfortable. We arrived at 11:30 on a Saturday excited to check it out, and he gave us a weird attitude, acting as if this bar was exclusive. We got downstairs to find an empty bar so I’m not sure why he was on such a high horse.

Best nightlife spot in east village/alphabet city by far! Doors up at 11pm on Friday and Saturday and it fills up quick. Great dance vibes and DJ.

DJ was terrible the night of August 18th. Bartenders and all other staff members were extremely nice and professional

Manager and security are absolutely disgusting. Highly recommend going literally anywhere else. I’m a New Yorker and have been to many bars- this one is by far the worst. Terrible DJ and terrible costumer service. There’s a reason why every other bar in NYC is packed on a Saturday night and this one isn’t!
