Awesome little deli with a nostalgic vibe. Great burgers and sandwiches! The garlic parm fries were on point, can’t wait to try some of the others as they make their own seasonings! Several ice cream flavors and frozen custard too!

Downtown Deli is I would say my favorite place to eat in Hermann. They always have great food, and exceptional, quick service, very friendly staff, and their Ice Cream is beyond well worth the price, as their Waffle Cones are always stacked ridiculously high, making it a great overall value. Downtown Deli hits 5 stars on service, price, portion sizes, atmosphere, and quality. Definitely worth checking out.

The burgundy cherry ice cream was the best ice cream I have ever had. The burgers were cooked perfectly. We went 2 days in a row because we were so pleased with our first visit.

My husband and I both had the Bang Bang burger with Smokey fries. It was DELICIOUS!!! The food was AMAZING! The atmosphere great and what we saw on the menu only made us want to come back! Definitely recommend if you are in Hermann!

I miss the days they didn’t have the chips as a necessary option with the meals. You used to be able to pick a burger and any of the sides. Personally, I am allergic to the ranch seasoning on the chips, so I cannot have them. I wish the burger would be a little cheaper because I never get the chips. I got so excited hearing the lady who took our order say we could switch out our side…. But it ended up being the full price of a new side. It’s silly to not allow trade outs without getting the full price of the new side. Please change it. This place was my favorite place to go.

One of the best places to grab a quick lunch in Hermann. Great deli style sandwiches, chips, shakes and malts. The location is perfect and the employees were very helpful. The Reuben was fantastic so much so that I came back the next day and ordered it again!

Gorgeous sandwich! The caprice is the yummiest sandwich I've ever had. Omg! The garlic parmesan fries were quite yummy as well. The only thing I would change is the Styrofoam. Please think of the planet!

Really enjoyed the food and service. Got the tomato soup and an ice cream and both were delicious. Old school spot downtown that’s definitely worth checking out.

This is my GO To place for a good hamburger and wonderful ice cream. If you haven't discovered Downtown Deli, then get busy! It's worth it. The staff on duty are all excellent, courteous, friendly, helpful and don't try to oversell. The Ice Cream deserves its own paragraph. If you don't do anything else, go there for the ice cream. Rich, creamy, a wide variety of flavored that go through a rotation. Eventually, you will see all their choices. Whatever they have at the ready, it's worth trying. Go to Downtown Deli and be pleasantly surprised by how good things are there.

I absolutely love Downtown Deli and Custard Shop. As soon as you walk in the door you are greeted with a smile and a hello from the friendly staff. But then the hard part begins, or the most hated, trying to decide what to eat. The sandwiches and salads are so delicious it's hard to choose. My favorite though is the chicken salad. Then to normally top it off you have to eat some ICE CREAM!!! My favorite is the cinnamon or mint chocolate chip. So check them out for lunch or dinner or just an afternoon ice cream snack. You won't be disappointed.

Stopped here for ice cream. Friendly, helpful staff answered questions and aided our selections of high quality ice cream. There's not an overly large menu of ice cream. However, beside standards like vanilla and chocolate there were wonderfully delightful options like a mocha chocolate with nuts. It--and the vanilla--were sinfully rich. Pricing was surprisingly inexpensive. There's also a sandwich menu if you want a meal. Has an outdated but interesting interior with plenty of tables.

Had a great lunch and wonderful shakes. Sandwiches are delicious and filling and the chips are yummy. Was fun to see the local kids coming by in their prom attire. Small town charm at its best. The chicken salad club and the reuben were wonderful.

TL:DR - Great spot for sandwiches (didn't try the ice cream). Chips have an amazing seasoning on them. Cheddar/jalapeno tots are a pass. Covid pre-cautions are minimal. Par for the town though. Second time in here while visiting. Super super solid place to eat. It says deli and custard, but it's really an ice-cream shop that happens to sell a few sandwiches. The sandwiches are not to be slept on though. Everything I've gotten here has always been really good and never disappointed. Don't come in expecting anything fancy, and you'll be happy when you leave. I got the half duke sandwich (roast beef) and was pleasantly surprised how good it was. If you're hungry, definitely get the whole. The small is a bit smaller than a 6in from subway. The chips were also surprisingly good. Half lay's original and half kettle chip, it's like a slightly more oily kettle chip with a little less crunch, but is dusted an some magic seasoning powder that I can only describe as resembling sour-cream and onion powder. We also got the cheese and jalapeno tots. Just know that is NOT tater tots with nacho cheese on top with sliced jalapenos. It's potato mash mixed with cheese and jalapeno bits then fried into little nuggets. The potato texture wasn't my fave. So I'd probably skip this in the future. During covid, they've spread out and blocked a few tables. Can't remember if they're requiring customers wear masks or not, but customers were definitely not wearing masks (even when just looking at ice-cream flavors), nor did staff ask them to. This appears par for most establishments in Hermann though.

Not wanting a full dinner, we stopped at this Deli business. Employees were personable and gave great customer service. My chicken sandwich was plentiful and tasted great. Could not resist having their turtle sundae afterwards which was a generous amount of custard and toppings. Recommend this business,.

Get the chicken salad & the blueberry waffle cone ice cream - thank me later. Delicious food, fast service!

Nice selection of bottled drinks, My half Cuban sandwich was filling. I am used to my Cuban sandwich being a pressed sandwich with a lot less sauce but it was a decent interpretation. I still prefer the pressed version personally. My husband had the special which was a burger with smoked fries. He said it was really good. Cute atmosphere. My only complaint was the annoying flies that kept attacking me my whole meal...ugh!!! (Get some fly lights! It was not pleasant.) The ice cream selection was good, the staff was friendly and accommodating. I would stop by again.

The malt was amazing, but my burger was slightly overcooked. It was fresh and hot off the griddle. Their homemade chips are perfect.

Popped in here for a quick to go lunch. Got so much more than I expected. I ordered a half of a Cuban sandwich and an iced tea.. I didn't know I was going to get a bonus. Homemade potato chips dusted I believe with Parmesan and herbs... DA~LICIOUS!!! The Cuban was awesome too! And I'm kind of funky about iced tea. Their's was perfect! Lastly five stars for service and promptness. I will definitely be back

Was simple and just as expected. Lots of ice cream options and you get plenty for your money. Fiancé had two scoops and had to bring one home. I had a small concrete. Looking at all the sandwich options made us wish we had chosen to there for dinner instead of tin mill. Options are limited, though, so all good. Glad we stopped. Will be back.

Custard was delicious! I had the strawberry cheesecake custard and I loved it! Place was nice! I took off a star because the employees don't wear gloves or wash their hands when scooping the ice cream- I saw the workers hand touch the ice cream with her hand.

We love the Deli! Great sandwiches and chips! They have the best homemade turkey chili, I just never hit the right day so I only get it about twice a year. Can you serve that more often please?

They serve Central Dairy ice cream. I didn't see any frozen custard on the menu. We only had ice cream, but the service was very friendly. I think next time we will try their sandwiches which I hear are very good.

Best signature sandwiches in Town! Friendly, helpful service staff and owners. We split a "godfather" with side of chips and fries and it was absolutely delicious! Chips were really great! Need to add this place to our regular rotation!

It's that small town deli/ice cream place you remember from your youth. They have all the staples including something called a Shake-a-chino. A coffee-flavored shake. Love it.

The ice cream looked good but after we tried some it wasn't that great. We got a large hot fudge Sunday and a Reeses cup concrete... probably won't go back...

Not a good place to go AT ALL. I had got there about 5 hours before they closed and were greeted with nothing but rudeness. I said I wanted the moose tracks ice cream in a cone and saw there was just some residue left assuming they weren't completely out for the day because they had opened not long ago at all, but instead they just scraped out what they could which barely gave me anything!! I thought for sure they had to be joking so I asked if the lady could get more and she said that they were completely out for the day very rudely. After that I didn't know what to think and to top it off the ice cream was gross. Afterwards I had walked by again to see if they really were out of moose tracks or if she was just lying and sure enough they had brought out a whole new thing of it out. The lady was just too lazy to actually get me what I payed for. Will NEVER be back.

Came here while on vacation. Burger was overcooked, but more disturbing was the fact that the staff refused to use gloves while handling food in plain sight of the guests. They were handling cash, cleaning tables, removing trash and then prepping food without washing hands or using gloves, cleanliness is clearly not a priority.

We got stuck in Hermann after missing out our train stop in Jeff city & I'm thankful for it because of this place!! It was DELICIOUS I even had my dad take a bite there too when he arrived to get us!! *Friendly place *good food * yummy custard *affordable

Great affordable place to grab a bite to eat in a town where fine dining is more abundant than cheap. (I love that by the way.... who wants to travel to a town filled with all the same chain places as back home?) This deli is a good example of small town charm. The young lady behind the counter was friendly and happy and quickly served up the roast beef sub my husband and I decided to split. The homemade potato chips are DELICIOUS!! Wow! The bread the sub was served on was fresh and buttery flavored. All the ingredients were fresh and we quite enjoyed it. We were told by that lady behind the counter that they had just re-opened after a two week closure to remodel. I'm not sure what was done, but the place is still really plain inside. I hope they have plans to put up some artwork and add some color to the tables, whether by table cloth or fresh flowers or.... it needs a little "something" so it doesn't feel so sterile in there. Otherwise, this place is A-OK. Will gladly come back when we pass through again.

Loved the peanut fudge sundae. Friendly fast service in downtown Hermann at an affordable price. Perfect place for a cold treat on a hot day.

Great sandwiches, ice cream, service, a step back in time with the pinball machine, etc. I really enjoy this place's sandwiches. They have healthy options such as turkey , but also have hamburgers, fries, and so on. They have shakes, Malts, ice cream cones, sundaes, concretes, and so on. If you want chocolate, they'll have it, but if you desire a Reese's pieces concrete, they'll do that as well. Homemade chips, great deli sandwiches. We always tip the staff , as they're a family operation, I believe.

Best ice cream around! The friendliest service I think you'll find anywhere. The sandwiches and hamburgers are fantastic!

Just okay. That's it. But here's the thing. This small deli is not holding itself out to be something more than it is. Still, I'm giving a 3-star rating because with a few small tweaks, it could be special. The roast beef? It comes from Sysco like the other meats. Why not buy local and fresh meat from nearby farmers. The cookies? Not fresh and bought directly from Central Dairy. Why not bake daily? This store needs a little more charm, something a bit more special. Perhaps a Purple Cow. In fairness, the staff was kind and friendly. The chips, however, were special. If only there could be a few more signature items on the menu. Not bad. Not good. Just okay.

When my wife and I come back to Hermann to visit my family, this is always a place we stop at while in town. Nothing like getting a cone, concrete, or shake to go and walk around a scenic small town in the summer. While they do offer dining items, I've never actually gotten any of those. We just go for the frozen custard. Cones, sundaes, etc, all the standard items of an ice cream shop. Just avoid the smoothies; no real fruit used in those.

I went to the deli with my family from the very beginning we got welcomed from the owner ordered and the food take 15 The waitress was super nice The food was excellent The people that owned the restaurant were friendly and a very good this place was good from the very beginning

Great place for a quick bite in Hermann! Had the Reuben and a burger as well as some custard. Priced right and decent eats!

We had the Cajun burger and fries, the chicken salad club, and the pumpkin pie concrete. Everything was delicious including the homemade chips that came with the chicken salad club croissant. The pumpkin pie concrete was a perfect blend of pie including the crust (best part) and creamy custard! Very friendly staff!

Okay. Slushy was decent for two bucks. Everyone else complained that their slushy was too sweet. Tables were very dirty and no one offered to clean any of them.

Excellent experience. ABSOLUTELY wonderful menu. Great value. Definitely plan a lunch break here. The icecream is even better than the food.

From what other reviewers said, I think the custard must be decent but as far as the food goes...not so much. The sandwiches and fries were as unremarkable as they were cold. Very boring not to mention the deli sandwiches were half sized. One redeeming quality was there home made potato chips. And the staff was very friendly. Other than that it was largely a waste of calories. Especially with better quality restaurants in the immediate area.

Great time at the Downtown Deli in Hermann, MO. Clean! Fun! Fresh! The waiter was nice and the owner was there cooking in the kitchen. Folks were in the holiday spirit and the Jukebox was playing Jingle Bell Rock. I had the homemade white chili with a fabulous chocolate malt.

Looking for some ice cream while driving through, we decided to give this place a try. Despite the rather unfriendly service by an impatient server more interested in sitting back down with her co-workers to continue talking than in spreading the joys of ice cream, the concrete (like a blizzard) was really wonderful! That was the smoothest ice cream with a subtle amount of the heath bits. The business appears up for sale--I hope the town doesn't lose this place.

Standard soft serve custard but excellent eating on a warm day. I highly recommend the sidewalk seating in the front.
