Dozo Omakase & Handroll Bar

Had an incredible experience at Dozo Omakase. From the service to the food, everything was exceptional. We chose the 15 course premium omakase and were impressed by every dish. Chef Sean was friendly and knowledgeable, taking the time to explain each course as it was served. He and the owner, Ron, added thoughtful touches to help us celebrate our anniversary, which made the evening even more special. Every bite was delicious, and I highly recommend pairing the meal with a bottle of the Artesian Water sake. It is a fantastic spot for a special occasion, and we will absolutely be back!

28 nigiris, 2 cold plates, 3 handroll all for $205? All while being fresh fish? 100% worth the price. All the fish were meticulously prepared, flavorful and paired with complementary dressings. One of the reasons for the superb value was coming in during happy hour which run till 7pm. You can find half priced nigiri, specially priced cold plates and other delicacies. We sat at the omakase bar and one of the requirements to sit here was to order an omakase - as the name would suggest. Just an FYI. The chefs and staff were all very kind and the ambience was intimate. Our server took a while to check-in on us. This was slightly problematic when we wanted more ginger, water or the check. She was fine overall. Here's all we got: 2 Seared Truffle Salmon 2 Dozo Omakase 4 Chutoro Nigiri 2 Otoro Nigiri 2 Yellowtail Nigiri 2 Seared Salmon Nigiri 1 Truffle Salmon HR 1 Daku Toro HR 1 Negitoro HR 2 Salmon Belly Nigiri 2 Salmon Nigiri Chutoro and Otoro were top tier, extremely fatty, melt-in-your-mouth delicious! The variations of salmon were our second favorite and some of the best salmon we've had in Dallas. Would recommend.

My partner and I drove in from Kansas! We had the 7-course omakaze ($42 per person), and some additional dishes. 1000% worth it, delicious, amazing, kind and gracious service. The miso soup cleared the headache I developed from our 5+ hour car ride. I believe the scallop and skipjack(?) from the omakaze were my favorites! 🥰 Glad we don't live here or we'd become broke.

Fantastic place for sushi, and especially so for omakase style dining. Chef Ken was attentive, friendly, and even provided scrap cuts from the separate omakase that my fiancée got. Service was excellent, and waiter wasn’t ever far from being flagged down for things. All in all, amazing place that deserves more recognition and attention.

Edit: I really recommend the bar seating area and its regular menu and forgo the happy hour table seating. It is more delicious to be served as you eat instead everything served at once. Yuzu drink was weaker this time and the items on the happy hr menu was okay. We still had a good time. ———- Absolutely delicious! I’m so glad we found this hidden gem in Dallas! Seafood is sourced from Tokyo and so fresh! I got the omakase course and a couple of hand rolls. I was happy with each item. The nigiri here is reminiscent of my recent trip to Japan this year. The yuzu-ade drink was delicious too (highly recommend if you like tart)! I was too busy enjoying the drink and forgot to take a good picture 😌. Tako wasabi (raw octopus) was very good. Our group really liked that. We left extremely satisfied. And the price is very affordable. Service is great and our sushi chef made us feel very welcomed! Can’t wait to come back and try other items! The bar area which we sat at has extensive seating and there are tables for families/larger group. There are three immediate parking lots. The unpaved one (across the street) is at your own risk walking bc there are no crosswalks in the middle.

One of the best finds on our trip. They hand friendly service and even better sushi/handrolls. We had the handroll omakase and nigiri flight. This was an exceptional lunch and the quality of the fish was so clean and fresh tasting. This is now a pinned favorite when visiting Dallas.

I am Black and Japanese, lived in Japan for 2 years, and NYC most my Life. I know good sushi and service haha. This restaurant is definitely worth a visit! The staff is so incredibly friendly and quick to get food on your table. Date night, family night, or just a friends outing in a sushi setting - I HIGHLY recommend!

Dozo was one of those rare meals where everything just worked. We grabbed a few appetizers and the $42 omakase, and every bite felt like someone turned the flavor saturation up to max. Bright, vibrant, fresh, and unapologetically delicious. Service was fantastic. The staff kept things light and fun with easy conversation, the kind that makes you feel like you’re in on a secret even though you’re just eating raw fish. The pacing was spot on too. No rush, no awkward waiting, just a perfect flow from one dish to the next. Final verdict: Amazing flavors, flawless timing, and service that makes you want to high-five your server on the way out. Easily one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a while.

We came here for my husband's birthday, and this was such a wonderful place! Every from the service to the food was absolutely Chef's Kiss! Although it was a Thursday evening, I made a reservation... just in case and luckily for us we practically had the whole restaurant to ourselves. We enjoy doing an omakase experience, so this was right up our alley. It was happy hour, so we ordered a few small plates of the Spicy Crispy Tuna Rice and the Yellowtail Carpaccio. Everything was great, the fish was fresh and light and they were great choices to start with before our 7 course omakase. We decided on the the 7 piece Nigiri and I guess we also got an extra Chef's choice. Every single piece of fish was beautiful crafter by the chef, and they were some of the freshest pieces of sushi that we've had! Not one piece disappointed us, and we can't wait to be back!

The ONE thing that stuck out with me about Dozo was THE FISH WAS COLD! I've been to Dozo twice and each time the fish was cold... and because of that, there was no taste. I don't know if this is what they're going for or they didn't get the chance to "thaw" the fish out correctly but it's not a good thing. Sushi fish is supposed to be at least room temperature. It's weird because their togo location doesn't seem to have this issue. You do get big pieces at Dozo so that's a good thing. But I rather have quality over quantity.

First time here and the food was amazing! We did the Dozo Classic Omakase that came with 7 different selections of nigiri the chef selects. The quality of the fish is top knotty! This will become my go to sushi in Dallas and the price is really reasonable for the quality. The service is very attentive and really fun getting to sit at the sushi bar seeing them work diligently to craft the perfect piece for you. They season all items for you so no need for soy sauce or anything else. They have many specials and variety of fish so you can try something new and one of your favorites. The restaurant is in the heart of the bustling Trinity Groves but as soon as you step inside you are transported to a Tokyo sushi bar! Will definitely be back to try more treats.

Parking is free, great quiet atmosphere. You can choose the chefs omakase or a la carte. My servers were so kind super attentive. Scallops and the uni were my favorite

Visited Dozo for the omakase. Great quality fish and seafood for the price. The sushi chef knows what he is doing. My reservation was for 5pm and I pretty much had the place to myself. They were polite and asked if I had omakase before, they explained other things and how they worked. Great variety of fish, very fresh. Great texture and flavor. Fyi they do use truffle and truffle oil on some of their items. The fish was so good, it really did not need the truffle. I added on kanpachi and uni/ikura and matcha strawberry dessert. Everything tasted delicious. Getting the dessert out of the little mason jar was awkward. If I lived in Dallas, I would return.

Ordered the Salmon Lovers Combo and was really impressed! A bit on the pricier side, but totally worth it for the quality. The presentation was beautiful, especially for a to-go sushi order. The salmon was buttery, fresh, and full of flavor. Would recommend!

I'm from California and i went on a whim to try omakase in Dallas during a work trip. No regrets. I sat at the bar and had the chef tell me all about each nigiri. The vibe was unmatched. Definitely a place to try if you love fresh sushi!!

Came to Dozo Omakase & Hand Roll on a Saturday night--glad we made reservations since the space is small. You're seated directly in front of the sushi chef, who prepares each roll for you throughout the meal, which adds a personal and engaging touch. If you're a fan of raw sushi, this place is a great pick. They offer several omakase options--we went with the 15-course roll meal. It may sound like a lot, but it's just one piece per course, so it's more about variety than quantity. You get to sample a wide range of raw seafood, and the meal wraps up with a Japanese-style dessert. The reason for the 4 stars is that the experience lacked a bit of guidance. The chef didn't really explain anything--no suggestions on whether to use chopsticks or your hands, or even what you were being served at times. If I hadn't come with my date, who's familiar with this style of Japanese dining, I honestly wouldn't have known what to do. Still, it's a unique and worthwhile experience if you enjoy raw sushi and are open to a more hands-off, traditional omakase format

Sean (Head Chef) was pleasant and knowledgeable about what he served for each course in our Dozo Omakase. He and Ron were kind enough to even share about their experiences and preferences on what fish they favored which helped us decide what other dishes to try. The whole entire place was beautifully decorated and left us wanting to come back for future date nights!

Loved the Dozo Omakase+ uni nigiri! Ordered the crunch tuna appetizers and the Hokkaido trio scallops! Friend ordered the 6 course mixed nigiri and handroll. We loved our experience and felt that the fish was super fresh! Will definitely be back for the premium 15 course omakase next time!!

Great new place in Trinity Grove for a finesse experience of omakase. I'd recommend the premium omakase since it would be a pretty solid meal with fifteen courses. You can of course add to it via a la carte menu. You can also fill up pretty well by combining a smaller omakase with handroll combo. The quality of the sashimi is top tier and you get a very good variety of fish. The bar setting is a fun and interactive way to enjoy your meal. The staff is very attentive to us and everything is done with greatest attention to detail.

True Omakase that has a real laid back feel. This is my second Omakase experience and I am a believer. Before now I would never eat the raw sushi but nigiri sushi is amazing! No wait time to sit on a Friday evening - they were fast, efficient, and the prices were on point!

The food are amazing nigiri's. High quality fish. The service is very friendly and great service. The place feels cozy.

I just scanned through the 4 other reviews and I would agree with the only non 5 star review that the service was a bit annoying, server rushing to take orders when there's 2 couples in the whole restaurant for our 5 pm seating, after we ordered everything he stopped coming around, the chef had to call him over a couple of times to take our added on items order or to refill my water cup that's been sitting empty. For me, I won't let one server knock my overall opinion of the restaurant , because the rest of our experience was lovely. The chef was attentive and friendly, the star of the show was the fish, every bite was delicious and I rarely experience that in Dallas. Will definitely be coming back!

I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch here last week. I love that chef Ron and his wife were able to open this place. I have yet to go to their Dozo Togo location in Richardson; but when I saw this place was a sit down I immediately made reservations. This place is actually a really large space. It's dimly lit, definitely has a vibe and the staff is nice. They've only been open a month, and for being brand new they seem to have their system going. I did come for lunch and not dinner; so I imagine dinner is more busy. My stars are for food alone. The quality of their fish is very good; their uni is delicious. I love the fact that the experience is an intimate one to the fact that you have a designated chef in front of you at all times. Service was great; menu options were great. Price point was really great for Dallas and the quality. Portions on some things were off here and there; but I'm sure they're still working things out. My friend and I literally ordered the whole menu to try. We started off with the shishito peppers, tako wasabi, madai carpaccio, miso soup, and the crispy rice spicy tuna. The peppers were very nice; with a light breading. Portion was hefty of this one. The madai carpaccio was delicious, everything was perfect with this dish. Soup was tasty. Tako wasabi is one of my favorites and it did not disappoint here. The crispy rice spicy tuna was tasty, however in my opinion they could've been a smidge bigger or they could've served it in even counts vs odd. When ever I'm with someone I don't like when it comes with an odd amount because the split isn't even. For that price 4 pieces would've been better. But still a tasty dish. We each did the Dozo omakase and then ordered 12 other nigiris and then 4 hand rolls. Ikura, kanpachi, truffle salmon and spicy scallop. All the nigiri was top notch and I just didn't want it to end. The hand rolls were yummy, the truffle salmon being my favorite; only complaint I have on those were I felt they were very skinny compared to other places. Not saying fill it up with rice; but it definitely wasn't full to were the nori was sliding and it just didn't look as good as everything else presentation wise. Taste here is great! My only two other things I wasn't a fan of was the dimness of the place; if you read my reviews I'm not a fan of dark restaurants; I want to see my food and the bar stools at the sushi bar are a too short. The chairs were comfy; but the height was awkward for my friend and I while eating. I'm 5'7 and sitting at the sushi bar in this chair had me at a height where I could just shovel the food to my mouth. I was too low in that chair. The food here though is worth it. Definitely give it a go!

After visiting Japan, I didn't think I'd find another sushi restaurant that would be as satisfying after returning to the states, but Dozo was so good! I wanted an omakase experience to celebrate Valentine's Day with my partner and was anxious about booking with Dozo because they recently opened at the beginning of the year and we've never been, but I am so happy we gave them a chance! The fish was fresh, high quality and we were pleasantly surprised with each course. We were running a little late due to traffic, but Dozo was so accommodating and still let us enjoy the appetizer and complimentary champagne. The place was dimly lit, but warm and inviting! It was an unforgettable experience and we can't wait to visit again! Besides the fish, the matcha panacotta was really good.

This is a dimly lit/quiet restaurant, perfect for a romantic date. I sat at the bar and ordered the handroll set, and absolutely fell in love. The snow crab handroll (which the chef happily told us was real and not imitation meat) was beyond amazing. The sever was attentive, and multiple people checked on us during our meal, including the chef who was making food in front of us. I got to witness him creating items for other guests which included gold flakes, caviar, etc. I appreciate that there are a range of options so diners don't have to break the bank for great sushi. I will definitely be back.

Amazing sushi. Came here on a whim, having never been, and was pleasantly surprised. Prompt and curious servers. Nig props to the sushi chefs, amazing cuts.. properly sized and very fresh.

We thought the handrolls were good and some of the apps, but they give noticeably small pours of wine & don't serve any cocktails (not even sake based). The biggest turn off though were the vibes -- we've been twice and it's been almost empty both times. I think they chose a bad location to open.

Amazing experience with high quality nigiri. Ambiance is awesome in there too, feels like a NY swanky omakase spot. Service was five stars, manager Ron was attentive and friendly. Thank you to my sushi chef for giving me lil extra pieces of fish! I will definitely be back.

More expensive than most places for hand rolls. $32 for 5. The main problem is that all the rolls have a vinegary undertone which I do not like. I know sushi rice is cooked with vinegar but I think they might have added too much. Won't be coming back. Hatsuyuki and Sake in Richardson are still the best.

AMAZING!!!! Great quality and prices. Everything we ate was so good. We did the 7 piece nigiri omakase and added on the spicy tuna handroll and snow crab handroll. Service was great as well.

Best sushi I've had in TX. The experience was delightful, the chef was so nice and I learned a couple things. But back to the sushi, omg perfect buttery melts in your mouth fish. They do need better music, the vibe just wasn't there. But the reason for not giving them five stars is because the servers are rushing you to place your order and it wasn't even 10 min after we finished our last roll before he came over to charge us. Service from beginning to end felt like a transaction, with the exception of the chef.

Fresh and delicious sushi and great service. More people need to visit this place. The prices are very reasonable, too. I highly recommend it!
