A small quiet park with some history.
I'm not sure how many people even put this spot on their list to check out in Taipei. The Sun Yat Sen Memorial House is a small Japanese style wooden house inside Yixian Park that is dedicated to the ROC founding father, Dr Sun. He stayed here for a short time during his visit to Taiwan after the 1911Revolution which overthrew the Qing Dynasty.
It's a beautiful Japanese style garden park. Pass through the gate and see the pond filled with Koi fish, follow the paved path around the pond to the pavilion and onto the house.
The house was once the Japanese hotel called Ume Yashiki or Plum House. The traditional wooden Japanese-style house was built in 1900 while Taiwan was still under the control of the Japanese empire. I'm not sure how this structure was a hotel since it consists of three large rooms. But the craftsmanship inside and out is amazing. There are pictures on the wall and some cases with Dr Sun memorabilia around the rooms. To enter the house you must leave your shoes at the door, slippers are available. And no photography inside.
Allow 30 minutes for the house and park.
