We are in the midst of a worldwide pandemic. I get that we should support local businesses. I get more that I should be grateful this restaurant is open. However, not one ounce of this is a valid excuse for bland, flavorless food.
It was Sunday afternoon and we ordered take out. My boyfriend claimed he hadn't had their food in awhile, and so, I guess he must have forgotten what it tasted like because one bite of this food and I immediately regretted ordering. Well, minus the egg roll (more on that later).
We ordered four items:
1) Two egg rolls;
2) Pork gyoza;
3) Chicken lo mein;
4) Pepper steak.
The egg rolls, while smaller than what I am used to, were amazing. They were seasoned well and had a crunchy exterior. A bite of this alone made you salivate for more, and given that this was one of two appetizers, it opened up our appetites.
We moved onto the gyoza next and they were cold. They also packed it with some weird sauce that I dared not touch. I thought it was soy, but it smelled funny, so I passed on it. The gyoza was cooked fine, but again, cold and nothing spectacular. Basic.
Didn't try the pepper steak, but I sampled the chicken lo mein and I wonder if they even put salt in it. The noodles were dry, the onions barely cooked, and the chicken was just edible. You could eat it, but you couldn't savor it. There was no flavor. It was boring.
I have no idea if it was what I ordered, but I am severely underwhelmed. So much so that rather than eat leftovers I asked my boyfriend to throw them out. That should say something. I don't like wasting food, but this? I wouldn't feed it to anyone! Well... except the egg roll, which is the only reason this review is two stars.
