How Odsherred Became Denmark’s Next Great Food Destination | Condé Nast Traveler

"Set on the Lammefjord, I visited the 800-year-old Dragsholm Castle turned Relais & Châteaux hotel, with an encircling moat and views of Sejerø Bay; the castle sits on farmland reclaimed from the seabed and its restaurant, Dragsholm Slot Gourmet, offers an ambitious 14-course tasting menu that spotlights those hyperlocal ingredients and earned a Michelin star in 2017 (with Claus Henriksen having led the kitchen prior to Mota)." - Lars Roest-Madsen

10 Most Haunted Hotels in the World

"In Hørve, Denmark, Dragsholm Castle carries dark history from the 1500s when James Hepburn, the Earl of Bothwell, was captured and imprisoned there until madness and death; his spirit is said to still ride horseback across the grounds. I've also heard of the White Lady, believed to be Celina Bovles, a young woman imprisoned by her father after becoming pregnant; during 1930s renovations workers supposedly found a skeleton in a white dress within the castle walls that many link to her." - Steven Casale Steven Casale Steven Casale is a New York City-based freelance writer and digital strategist. The 10 Most Haunted Places in Europe

"Located near Nekselø Bay, the much-rebuilt medieval castle is believed to be haunted by the many figures who were imprisoned there, including James Hepburn, Earl of Bothwell — the third husband of Mary, Queen of Scots — and the last Bishop of Roskilde, who had owned the castle before being ousted of his title during the Protestant Reformation. Paranormal encounters often occur with two women: the White Lady and the Gray Lady. The former is believed to be the ghost of a young girl who was imprisoned in the castle after her father found out she was pregnant and the latter is said to be that of a servant who died shortly after complaining of a mysterious toothache." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Dragsholm Slot (Hørve, Denmark) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"An 800-year-old castle within the UNESCO-listed Geopark Odsherred on Denmark’s Odsherred Peninsula is the setting for one of the country’s most unique hotels. Dragsholm Slot has been in operation as a hotel since 1937, but it’s kept pace with the times; the rooms are a vibrant mix of antique and modern elements, and the comforts are on par with any luxury hotel in Europe. Of particular note is the culinary program; in addition to a bistro and an informal market-style restaurant, it’s home to the painstakingly local and seasonal — and Michelin-starred — Dragsholm Slot Gourmet." - Tablet Hotels

Amazing place to spend a night. Welcoming staff and rooms had everything you need, nothing more. I recommend a stay in the castle and dining at the bistro. Ghost enthusiast’s dream.

Charming Stay at Dragsholm Slot – A Highlight of Our Trip||We stayed at Dragsholm Slot on August 26 as two couples traveling together and booked two rooms. Both rooms were spacious, tastefully decorated, and featured private terraces overlooking the beautiful castle grounds. The setting was peaceful and picturesque—perfect for a relaxing getaway.||We had hoped to dine at the Michelin-starred restaurant, but it was closed on Saturdays in July. That said, the Bistro was a wonderful alternative. We chose the tasting menu with wine pairings and were absolutely delighted. Christian, the sommelier and our server for the evening, was outstanding—knowledgeable, attentive, and warm. His wine pairings were spot-on, enhancing every course and making the meal truly special.||While we didn’t get the Michelin-star experience this time, the quality of food and service at the Bistro made it a perfect evening regardless. Dragsholm Slot is a unique and charming destination—we wouldn’t hesitate to return!||

This is a pearl in a beautiful landscape. We stayed one night and everything was perfect from arrival to departure. The place with staff was so amazingly coordinated and genuinely interested in making the story and stay coherent. We had 14 perfect dishes, the wines offered at the restaurant are an outstanding selection. The service, the food, the drinks, the atmosphere, the story everything was orchestrated to perfection and insight in history in a subtle manner. We are grateful for the experience. Wauh!

Staying in a piece of history is quite a fun experience. Stairs are wicked to the second floor, esp w luggage, but great views. Middle of nowhere. Bikes are awful- don’t plan on them. Nice soft beds. Great breakfast. Bistro is excellent, even though pricey like a lot of things Danish.

Have visited Dragsholm 6 times - this time everything (except the restaurant) sadly crashed. Poor and amateurish staff, they knew nothing about breakfast place, gave wrongly information making us leave the place without breakfast. Yep, laugh, but remember, it is a place making great expectation to their service that they cannot comply.||In other words: Go and dine - but do NOT stay at the hotel/castle. You get fooled.

Visited the rhododendron garden. It is very beautiful at this time of year. The rhododendron are very old and very big. Definitely worth a visit you are nearby.

Extraordinary experience. We booked the gourmet-stay with a night in the castle and the Michelin gourmet dinner. We had matching wine menu and started out adding a glass of Louis roederer batch 244 champagne to the snacks. The food was exceptional, well deserving of the star. The wine menu was very well matched to the dishes and the sommelier was very good at introducing the wines. What really also set this experience apart from other Michelin experiences I had this year, was their ability to serve flavourful and outstanding dishes while accommodating my allergy towards onion and garlic (Which meant I had to have special sauces etc). The experience lasted 6 hours, which was maybe a bit too long as we were quite full 4 hours in. This meant I couldn’t finish half of my wineglasses and the last 5 dishes of the experience. It seems most people was there for 5-6 hours, but I presume the special sauces for me required some extra time for the chefs which is very understandable. The location was beautiful in the countryside and I would definitely recommend to always book an overnight experience here. In addition you had the castle for yourself to roam around and use the facilities, consisting of game rooms, various couch areas, a bar and a museum. The breakfast in the stables was also great, but it was hard to get up early enough when we first finished dinner at 1 AM. So we chose the late breakfast and missed the museum guide. Overall - we absolutely LOVED it, and will definitely come again.

Went for a small day trip from summerhouse to visit the castøe and have lunch. So beautiful area, buildings and just stunning in every way. We would love to come back and spend a Night one time. Great outdoor areas, several places to eat and awesome historic buildings.
