Having driven past Drakes Yoke a myriad of times since moving out this way earlier this year, we actually made it our first dine-in restaurant visit since Covid began, mainly because of their large, open air patio.
For any place that offers BBQ, normally I would defer to any dish that has smoked meats in it, but I was in the mood for something different and the Shrimp and Grits jumped out at me, while The Wife ordered the Asparagus and Brisket Salad.
I couldn't have been happier with my choice as this was the best shrimp and grits I've had in some time. Drakes caught the balance of good ol' fashioned southern grits, combined with almost New Orleans-Style BBQ shrimp by serving them deliciously blackened, butterflied, and with their heads to boot. The sauce from the blackened shrimp combined nicely with the creamy grits.
The wife's brisket salad came with several slices of thick-cut brisket that did have a nice smokiness to it and pulled apart well. Nice brisket for a place that doesn't really advertise itself as a BBQ-only restaurant.
Given its proximity, we definitely plan on coming back to try more of their unique menu, or god willing, when Covid is finally vanquished, perhaps some jovial drinks on their large patio.
