I'm from Oklahoma. People argue whether OK is considered "The South" or "The Midwest." What's not disputed is that OK is more southern than Chicago. Meaning the traditions, culture, and cuisine have more of a southern drawl. See what I did there?
As far as food and aesthetic, this place hits the mark. The music, the pictures, the decor, the place settings, all really made you feel like you were in a formidable southern restaurant, not in a northern neighborhood of Chicago. There were even pictures of dogs fixated behind the whiskey filled bar - more on that later.
The food was good. Albeit I didn't try everything, the burger and chicken sandwich my friend and I ordered was in fact, satisfying. Menu wasn't extensive, which is a good thing, so I'd venture to say I would try different items upon my return. We both ordered a cocktail, and those were both satisfying also. Little did we know those were going to be the first of more than a few cocktails we were going to have - more on that now.
Each Thursday from 7-9pm, there's a whiskey room in the back, and the expert bartender showcases and serves several whiskeys, for free. Needless to say, we had our fill, and learned about some special whiskeys. This little feature came as a pleasant surprise, I recommend this for a nice date night or even for someone who is in from out of town. Very authentic experience, and really brings the whole southern theme they're going for to life. I feel almost like I'm giving away the game with this free whiskey tasting. Oh well. Paying it forward if you've gotten this far in my review.
4 stars; the free whiskey tasting takes it over the edge. Looking forward to bringing more friends here!
