This Washington, D.C. Pizzaiolo Opens Edan Pizza in Downtown Portland | Eater Portland

"A Jewish and Italian restaurant from couple John Bissell and Jessie Levine, located just down the street from Bissell’s previous job at Ava Gene’s, exploring deli classics like corned brisket on marble rye, Reuben knishes, and whitefish melts. Opens Friday, November 28." - Dianne de Guzman

Dream Deli Marries Jewish and Italian Deli Traditions in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"A modern, daytime deli blending Jewish and Italian traditions, this Richmond spot channels a Pacific Northwest lens across a tight, frequently changing menu: think corned beef on rye made with Revel Meat Co brisket, brined and corned in-house until “fall-apart tender, but still sliceable,” layered with Swiss and Russian dressing; a white fish melt on milk bread where white sablefish is cured with smoked tea, then poached and topped with Tillamook cheddar; a vegetarian meatloaf sandwich that eats like a root-vegetable terrine with cruciferous greens and grains, served on white bread with mayonnaise and crispy onions, inspired by Bissell’s mom; and a Jewish Wedding Soup marrying Italian meatballs with matzo dumplings. In keeping with Bissell’s decade of butchery, the team works through half hogs to make hams, pancetta, and cooked salamis, turning out occasional specials like spruce- and koji-cured hams and fennel-crusted porchetta, with pancetta also dotting salads, plus savory bites like pancetta-studded challah knots and Reuben knishes. Desserts showcase a butterscotch budino tartlet with nearly burnt caramel and a tiramisu whose ladyfingers are soaked in coffee kombucha brewed from Puff Coffee’s spent grounds for fruitier, more acidic balance. The small beverage list leans regional and adventurous with three Pacific Northwest wines (including a rotating “funkier” wild card such as the Art + Science Mutualism co-ferment pairing Sauvignon Blanc with pears), two beers, a cider, and house sodas built from kitchen byproducts. Lunch comes first, with plans to add breakfast and occasional evening pop-ups, all from a small but mighty team (including sous chef Sammy Galvez) focused on fermentation, pickling, and serving the neighborhood they love; hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday." - Dianne de Guzman

Modern, tasteful and tasty! West coast mashup of a Jewish and Italian Deli. A bit on the pricer side, but well worth it! As a jewish gal who grew up on the east coast and Chicagoland, I've been to my fair share of delis. This is a unique and refreshing take on comfort classics. The whitefish melt was super fresh, melt-in-your-mouth tasty on crisp, buttery sourdough. The chocolate schmaltz cookie was dangerously good. So excited to have Dream Deli in the neighborhood, will be back to try more of their menu!

Great new deli. Loved the cabbage salad and the bean bowl. Incredible focaccia too, can’t wait to stop back in!

A perfect local Jewish deli that Portland has needed for a long time. The soup with meatballs and matzo balls were great, corned beef and ham sandwiches also great. Will absolutely be back.

The food was good but the prices hurt. The food in the photo, a soup and sandwich, cost 33 dollars before tip. The corned beef was tasty but after about 5-10 minutes it was pretty wet so I can't recommend taking that sandwich to go. The Jewish wedding soup was delicious but I'm also a fan of Italian wedding soup already and I can't say it was much better than other iterations I've had. The only vegetable pieces in it was carrots but maybe that was just bad luck when it was scooped into the container. The bigger problem was the small container cost 14 dollars. I expected to receive a quart container for that much but the container they gave me was only about 1.5 cups. The space was a little awkward, the physical menu wasn't anywhere near the line to order and the QR code to scan in line was right by the register. The service was good and the space (outside of the menu placement) was very nice.

I was so excited when this spot opened! Sure the prices are a little pricey but as soon as you bite into whatever you ordered, you’ll understand that it’s worth it. I’m not a huge sandwich person and because of this place, now I am. I’ve been here twice and the staff is absolutely lovely. I was greeted, and for how busy they are, they somehow remembered me and were and always are so kind. Love telling people about this spot, it’s a must!

I'm an East Coast Jew with very high standards for delis. This place is legit. Truly fantastic corned beef, the city ham was a dream, and every ingredient is chosen with card. You know it's a good deli when even the mustard stands out. The standout for me was the Jewish Wedding soup. How no one has ever thought to combine matzoh balls and meatballs, I have no idea, but it was perfect. What's more surprising - they have been open a week but service was impeccable. Despite a long lunchtime line, our food came out fast. The owner came by while we waited in line with samples of white wine, which was delightful. The line itself moved quick. The only thing to know is that the space is relatively small, so getting a table at lunchtime might be a challenge. Otherwise, this place is perfection. I'll be back next week.

Had the mushroom knish, reuben knish, and corned beef sandwich, and they were all delicious! Very fluffy bread!

What a gem Portland has gained. This Jewish and Italian influenced deli is something special; classic comfort food done with heart, creativity, and a distinct PNW twist. You can feel the care and intention behind every detail, from the menu to the atmosphere! My husband, toddler, and I shared the Jewish wedding soup, bean bowl, whitefish salad melt, and the special knish offered for the day! The soup was deeply flavorful and comforting-it reminded me of something my grandmother made me as a child. The white fish melt was outstanding, perfectly balanced and indulgent without being too heavy. The bowl of beans was rich and cozy, and the knish was an absolute standout-crisp, warm, and unforgettable. It’s was hard to order just one! Every dish we have tried here has been fabulous. And, it’s clear this place is a labor of love. If you’re looking for great deli cuisine that honors tradition while doing something fresh and exciting, this spot is a must visit. We will definitely be back.
