"When it comes to the best soft-serve ice cream in Jacksonville, there’s no better spot than Dreamette. With locations springing up all around town, locals are now able to get their fix closer to home, rather than drive to the original location in the trendy Murray Hill neighborhood. While everyone has a favorite on the menu the star of the show is the banana split, which is layered in a cup rather than a traditional boat. The banana split has all of the usual suspects of toppings, but getting a bit of everything in one bite thanks to the layers of ingredients is what makes this a standout." - Megan duBois

When I went, there weren't many people there, so the girl took the time to explain the menu to us. When she handed me my ice cream, we let her know it wasn't what I expected, and without hesitation, she made the necessary adjustments to both my dessert and the price, raising it just right. The ice cream is delicious, the service is excellent, and the price is in line with what you get. I really loved it, but it baffles me that in the year 2025, they don't accept cards.

Google
Excellent soft serve ice creams 🍨🍦 Banana Sunday was delicious 😋 Service was great. Cashier lady had a beaming smile and a musical rhythm to what she was saying. All very pleasing experience. It's great that they have a hand wash in the corner. Prefer not to drive around with sticky hand. I had to scramble to find cash to buy anything 😂 it's been a few years since I purchased anything with cash. If someone can enlighten me, Not sure why any place is cash only. We were just passing through Jacksonville so don't know this area. But I felt a bit unsafe in the general location. We luckily found parking spot.

Google
Best ice cream in this city! Got a large swirl cone, medium dipped cone and a soda for $12. Dreamette is a staple in Jacksonville and there usually is a line. It’s open 7 days a week and they offer such a wide range of flavors with amazing prices there’s no reason, in this Florida heat, not to go there!

Google
We had a good time today at this ice cream stand. They have two vegan flavors vanilla and pineapple. Both were tasty, not the best ever, but tasty. The service was top-notch. They let us sample the ice cream before we bought them. The area was very clean and inviting. They only take cash which they have only taken cash since the beginning of time but people keep bringing credit cards and debt cards to their little stand so if you don't notice the 27 signs that say CASH ONLY before you get up to place your order then it's your dumbass problem and you don't deserve their treats anyway. God Bless

Google
There is something special about visiting the first location of Dreamette Ice Cream established in 1948. Let me suggest the awesome Banana Split but change the chocolate syrup for butterscotch syrup... Delicious! ;-)

Google
I've been going to the Post Steet locations ever since I was 18 years old and now a senior citizen. The one on Main St. Is priced higher. The ice cream is delicious and my favorite is the vegan vanilla with pecans It is ice cream is still the same and is the only place where I eat ice cream. It's a "cash-only" payment and for the most part busy. Excellent customer service and fast!! I love, love this ice cream!!❤😋 It's my go-to!!

Lovely Losja

Google
Took my son and nephew to Dreamette to start their first day of spring break off right! BEST ICE CREAM IN JACKSONVILLE! Always exceptional customer service & family friendly experience :) money well spent! Great quality yummy goodness!

Sherry Carter

Google
Such great flavors! And they have vegan icecream. The only negative is that you need cash to pay but there's a gas station nearby. Parking can get challenging when they are busy which they usually are.

Fay W.

Yelp
This was our first time here and wow am I impressed! It reminds me of one of my all time favorite ice cream places from home so I am thrilled. The ice cream was delicious, reasonably priced and HUGE! We got mediums and definitely will get small next time. The line was wrapped around the building so I definitely know they are well loved. The line moved quick and the guy taking orders was super friendly and kind. We will definitely be back!

Lauren B.

Yelp
Deserves allll the hype. We went on a sunday afternoon, was not busy at all. Cute little shack and window to order from, really pretty place to eat ice cream outside and walk around. The workers were so sweet and gave us good suggestions! Now this place gets a big round of applause 5 stars from me because dairy is my public enemy #1 fr and their soft serve vanilla vegan ice cream was ..... honestly the best soft serve vegan ice cream i've ever had. But honestly just the fact that it was an OPTION already made me happy. Y'all don't understand, It's so hard to find dairy free options that isnt nasty crusty raspberry sorbet that no one orders anyway!!! So, I will dream of this for sure. My friends (my dairy friendly buddies) also enjoyed their picks and it satisfied the need for a sweet treat after a pretty big lunch we had.

Jimmy T.

Yelp
Anytime we are around the area of The Dreamette we have to stop by! We've been coming here ever since my wife and I were dating in high school in the 80's. It was the best then and still the best today!!! We definitely recommend The Dreamette! Today we took my mom by there for an afternoon snack. I got the Cake Batter Milkshake for the first time and loved it. My wife got the Honeymoon Milkshake and she said it's her favorite. My mom got the Pineapple Milkshake. She loved it as well. There was an extremely long line to order but it went fairly fast. Service is also friendly. We definitely recommend The Dreamette!

Gaby P.

Yelp
Note they are cash only!! Love Dreamette, it is becoming a staple of mine for dessert in Jacksonville. Truly some of the best soft serve I have ever tasted. There isn't really a place to sit and eat your ice cream, it's just a walk-up window where you place your order. Service is pretty fast, but this place is popular so expect a short wait in line.

Anna M.

Yelp
One of the 'Must Visit' places in Jacksonville. I grew up near Dreamette, and this is always a place to go back when I visit. It is the best soft-serve ice cream you could ever want. While I grew up getting the dip cones, there is something for every palette. Take a minute to watch people walk away to see what they've gotten. You'll hear, "Oooh, what's that?" but you'll also never go wrong with just a plain cone. On a recent visit, before we left town, we stopped at Dreamette, and it became our lunch. I had never had the Blueberry Cobbler cup before, as I'd always had just the "basics," but my goodness, if this is available you need to get it! Be careful of the sizes you get, 'cause I guarantee it's bigger than you think it is. People look at the cup size and forget it's going to be swirled high! I know there are other locations, but this is the original, and therefore, will always be the best. Be sure to bring cash, and don't be surprised if you have to wait for a parking space.

Daniel A.

Yelp
***cash only*** Home town ice cream with its creamy thick goodness. This place is a local favorite but is quickly making a bigger name for itself. You will always find a line here. Got vanilla ice cream with a pie slice which was one of the best option in my opinion.

John R.

Yelp
Dreamette was such a wonderful find! When I moved to Jax, Murray Hill was the first neighborhood I explored. Inching up Edgewood Ave, I stepped back to the sixties and into a Jax Icon! Frozen custard - so smooth, rich & creamy - it's turned around many scorching Florida summer days and helped me stay cool. It's a walk up business. You order thru a window & wait for your order. No fancy seating (sometimes no seating), but the staff is always friendly and quick. They've recently opened a couple new shops, but I prefer going to the original. Hanging out on the corner, watching people from all walks of life smiling & enjoying their favorite Dreamette treat - life is simpler with a frozen cone in hand

Dorothy C.

Yelp
First time there. CASH only ice cream shop. Delicious old school ice cream. Semi sweet, soft nice texture. Will definitely go back and try for more different flavors.

Quy M.

Yelp
CASH ONLY! There is always a crowd and long line here but the line moves quick. You also get a ton of ice cream for the money. Plenty of options and toppings! True gem in the Murray Hill area.

Vitalik B.

Yelp
We enjoyed our vanilla cones. My wife thought it was the best ice cream she'd tasted, in fact, though she isn't used to American ice cream. They were large, even though we got the small size. Maybe we'd get the kiddie size next time. They don't take credit cards, just cash.

Kristine S.

Yelp
*Cash only* I love old school ice cream shops and Dreamette fires on all cylinders! Great ice cream and toppings, fast service, simple menu. I've had their shakes and sundaes which are both very good. I'd say the sundae would be my first choice. Their chocolate ice cream is creamy, smooth and delicious. As far as toppings my absolute favorite is their cookie dough. They use raw cookie dough here and wow, is it blow you away amazing! The Heath is also a great option as are the crushed Oreos. One thing is for sure, they don't skimp on the toppings. The line can get long at times but the wait isn't too bad and it's always worth it! Give them a try if you're in the mood for simple yet epic ice cream.

Brandi L.

Yelp
It's dreamette, do I need to say anymore?? The line is always long but it's always so very worth it. Actually the line moves quick, the staff has it down fast and a great system. I typically always get the vanilla with cookie dough (they put huge chunks in, it's heavenly) then add Carmel. Just so good. My husband got the last time we we went a ice cream sundae. It was really good too. I really love this place. Be mindful of the parking but the wait is well worth it. Love this place so much

Bill N.

Yelp
The oldest traditional ice cream shop in town, still cranking out the favorites while serving long lines.

Nelia R.

Yelp
All their ice cream flavors are to die for. Highly recommended !!!!! Staffs are always friendly. Three locations I've gone to and always clean and inviting.

Laura E.

Yelp
Yummy icecream! Great selection. Friendly service! Relaxed setting! This place is so cute and I know why it's been around so long!!

Gina A.

Yelp
I got 99 problems but a banana split ain't one. I grew up across the street from this dreamette. We used to walk over all the time. I love that the business is still booming. Cash only. Everything is great, but man, that banana split hits the spot every time.

Larson Z.

Yelp
Dreamette is by far my favorite ice cream shop!!! My grandmother used to ride her bike from her old house to here back in the 50s and 60s, and still, to this day, my grandfather, her husband, and I drive over there to indulge in their dream ice creams after finishing up running errands together. The service is polite, fast, friendly, and the menus can be read clearly and concisely since they close at dawn daily! I particularly like their dipped cones, but won't complain about their seasonal specials as well.

Shayla S.

Yelp
Quick service with a smile and yummy ice cream and treats. Always a line but well worth the wait! A lot of ice cream for a minimal price!

Jasmine R.

Yelp
The best ice cream place in Jacksonville! I love to support a local business and they make it easy because the service is awesome and the ice cream is even better. I always recommend dipping your cone in birthday cake.

Leah A.

Yelp
This is one of the best soft served ice cream spots in town! They've been around for a long time, they're super fast, the concept is simple yet never disappointing. There was quite the line when we arrived & to be honest I even doubted standing in the heat. But I saw how fast they were moving customers along & that was a plus. By the time you're paying at the window, someone else is already handing you your order. I basically got a dipped cone & a sundae at the same time- which is pretty much off the menu & custom style, & they did not hesitate to do this for me. I got a vanilla as a chocolate-dipped cone, with hot fudge & cookie dough. Dee-lish! My husband got a banana pudding milkshake & it tastes just like what it says! Not only are they quick, they are also huge servings & are super affordable. We always get a small or even children's size. No sharing though! Plus why would you want to LOL. Downside for this location, they are cash only.

Caroleena K.

Yelp
CASH ONLY! Classic soft serve! Dreamette gives you those classic, walk-up ice cream shop vibes. PSA: their sizes are HUGE. A small ice cream cone looks more like a large! (Pictured) I gave four stars because while the ice cream is good, there really wasn't anything super special or different about it. The unique thing is how long the shop has been in Jax. You can choose from vanilla, strawberry or chocolate soft serve. They also have many flavors of shakes and even some slushy options. Bring your dog so they can get a pup cup!

L L.

Yelp
***CASH ONLY*** I wonder what franchise Dreamette Ice Cream is, because they are very similar to a place called Dairy Palace in New Castle, DE. Both places look similar, offer similar treats, have very similar amazingly creamy soft serve, and crank out huge portions. Both are cash only, too (and that cash only rule is the only reason I can't give Dreamette 5 stars). The similar place in DE is often named the best ice cream in the state. I'm not sure if that has been awarded to Dreamette, but they are certainly deserving of high regards! As I said, the ice cream is thick and creamy, served with care, in large portions, with a ruffly soft serve twist up your cone top, much more exciting than DQ. This place was very crowded on a weekday evening in March, so I see it's super popular with Jax locals. Definitely a must-stop if you're anywhere nearby in Jacksonville. Make sure to bring cash!

Thea N.

Yelp
Even with COVID going around, it's not stopping anyone from getting a delicious scoop of perfectly soft served ice cream from their favorite oldest ice cream spot. I have gone there a few times and there is always a line wrapped around the building of people waiting to get their fill and boy, it's worth it. Accepting cash only, you have your choice of vanilla, chocolate, strawberry or swirl with your choice of toppings, dips, or milkshakes. Definitely a great quick pit stop to get in your sweet tooth craving.

Delia W.

Yelp
I got the delicious hot fudge brownie waffle bowl with oreos added. Husband got the strawberry shortcake waffle bowl with pineapples added. Delicious but it was no hot fudge brownie waffle bowl with oreos. Kid 1 got the vanilla ice cream cone dipped in chocolate. She loved it. Kids 2 & 3 got strawberry ice cream cups. Borrowed kid got strawberry Sundae. I was so glad that the waffle bowls came in disposable bowls because it was pretty messy... Delicious but messy.

Tom R.

Yelp
They do not take credit card. Unfortunately I didn't see the sign until my family had waited in line in the heat. We've enjoyed the one in San Marco (which does accept modern payments) and wanted to check out the original. Unfortunately not accepting cash is a killer these days.

Jenisha H.

Yelp
I've never had ice cream with such flavor!, very primitive in the best ways possible, it reminds you of a more simpler time, when you were a kid getting ice cream. Price affordable and only accepts cash.

Kurtis H.

Yelp
Great place for ice cream, a few of my friends and I frequent here at least once or twice a month the cones are awesome and they have the best milkshakes anywhere

Alice L.

Yelp
Best soft serve ice cream in Jacksonville! Always friendly service. Always Delicious.

Austin S.

Yelp
This place is amazing. It is cash only and the prices are extremely reasonable. Parking is limited and the lines start early. I tried to get the jump on the line on Sunday by getting their a few minutes before they opened............and as you can see, there was already quite a line. Got through in about 5 minutes so not at all bad. They have benches as well. I got a small chocolate cone for $2.60 (approx.) and I think it was well worth it. The taste kicked me back to childhood so i'll be very happy to support this business more moving forward. It was really yummy and I want to try more things as I go on. Also, customer service is good. They are very nice and answer any questions you may have.

Karen C.

Yelp
I love this place! Nothing like a sugar high the night before Thanksgiving, but well worth it! So many choices available for shakes and sundaes. The seasonal flavors available for shakes were peppermint, eggnog and pumpkin spice. The servings are large and very reasonably priced. Worth the visit for kids and adults! TIP: they only accept cash.

Cat Z.

Yelp
Had this place a few weeks ago... So good! There are a few locations around town, we went to the San Marco location. It has a cute 50's vibe. Sizing is enormous, this cone was a medium dipped in Peanut Butter sauce.

Matt C.

Yelp
Good golly miss molly, has the Earth been orbiting closer to the sun more so than usual? It's been scorching these last few days, which means more ice cream field trips are on the horizon. When you find yourself drifting off into space, dreaming of something cold hitting your lips, pivot your body in the direction of Dreamette, and run damnit. You don't have time to walk! Dreamette is a Jacksonville staple. One that operates the old school way. Yep, make sure you have cash on you. Although, rumor has it they might take credit cards now? Our last trip resulted in a Vanilla Chocolate Swirl. Medium sized ran us $3.46 and it was enough to split between the two of us. Now some of you know I grew behind an ice cream / soft serve counter, and if my two cents mean anything to any of you, Dreamette has my stamp of approval. Go back in time, wait in line, grab your pennies, and get some soft serve. It's good for the soul. And it'll cool you off, too!

Amarilys T.

Yelp
Really bummed out that it's cash only.:. So I drove all the way here not realizing that and also didn't even notice the sign posted... sooo giving it 3 starts until I can come back and taste it. Looks delish.

April W.

Yelp
I absolutely love this little place. We go about once a month or so, especially in the summertime. There is a great park nearby so we will get our ice cream and go hang out at the park. I really love the dipped cones and appreciate those little cups they come in so your ice cream doesn't melt all over your hands! My favorite is the chocolate ice cream dipped in the peanut butter chocolate sauce. It is not super peanut-y but I love it anyway. They have the best shakes and sundaes too. When you get a brownie sundae, there are real brownies in there! Definitely a local favorite, there is often a line but they move pretty fast. Be sure to bring cash! They do not take cards!

Sheena E.

Yelp
Cute little mom and pop place that has been in Jax for a long time. They are known for their dipped cones. They have so many dipping flavors I cannot even begin to name. I tried the butterscotch and I enjoyed it. Another great thing about this place is the price point, they have good reasonable pricing. Tip: Get EXTRA napkins and plan to eat your ice-cream quickly, it melts fast. :)

Kim H.

Yelp
I ordered a caramel sundae and got barely any caramel and essentially a cup of vanilla ice cream, when my husband got a very rich chocolate sundae. When I asked them to add more or make me another one with actual toppings, they refused. Super rude to me when the right thing would have been to make a new one if they couldn't take it back instead of making excuses.

Erin K.

Yelp
A refreshing, creamy treat on a blazing, hot day! I love the different combinations of presenting this ice cream: waffle cones, waffle bowls, shakes, sundaes, etc. The prices are very inexpensive (around $12 for 4 people)! Tip #1 ... the cones are huge!! The kid's cone is as large as a "regular" cone from anywhere else! Beware of how much your tummy can truly handle! Although, my son says there is a separate tummy for ice cream LOL! Tip #2 ... try the chocolate ice cream in a cone dipped in peanut butter! Yuuuuuuummy!

It's Just M.

Yelp
best yummy for your tummy!!! love it ! it's a little pricey but good! try it all and you won't be disappointed,

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
They have the best ice cream on this side of town, I had a banana split and it was fantastic. Please go here and I promise you will not be disappointed

Anthony C.

Yelp
This the best old time ice cream store in the area. Walk up window only and only a couple of benches. They are cash only. The shakes are amazing. Stop by when in Murray Hill Jax.

Lita S.

Yelp
Let me just say that I hope they serve Dreamette ice cream in heaven. Especially the Honeymoon shake--it has vanilla ice cream, maraschino cherries, and pineapple. It is to die for. Dreamette's ice cream is so creamy, smooth, the right amount of sweetness, and a slice of heaven! No matter where you live in Jacksonville...you should try this ice cream place. Also, bring cash bc they don't take debit or credit cards.

Son T.

Yelp
I LOVE Dreamette! If you love soft serve please go here. I cannot stress how much it reminds me of my childhood or the soft serve truck in NYC neighborhoods. I try to change my orders but I usually end up with a strawberry chocolate covered cone. :) Enjoy your soft serve!

Hillary F.

Yelp
If you're looking for that northern ice cream almost close to a custard, this is the go to spot! The community has been loyal to this establishment for quite some time! You often will find families lined up and around the corner. You can never go wrong with a banana split or chocolate fudge brownie waffle bowl!!

James S.

Yelp
Great Ice Cream. Bring cash, service card s fast. Part of the Murrayhill.Landscape. Wall town feel.

Whitney D.

Yelp
Omg they have the best soft serve ice cream since my childhood in Ohio. My boyfriend really enjoyed the vanilla milkshake. We loved that it was super thick. I can't wait to try more. **** Cash only***

Nelma P.

Yelp
Since 1948 the Dreamette has been serving delicious soft ice cream and has become a neighborhood icon in the Westside. It's quite an idyllic ice cream stand reminding me of ice cream shops of yesteryears. Recently it was named one of the best soft ice cream shops. We on the Westside are not surprised, we knew that all along. My favorite is the chocolate vanilla twist dipped in chocolate peanut butter, super yummy. Although they only accept cash no one cares. There is always a line especially during the weekend. When I stopped by this past Sunday there was no place to park but no one cared. They came peacefully. A respite from the terrible news of the day. Ice cream was my way of coping as it may have been for others too. It seemed more quiet than usual as I'm sure the tragedy weighed heavily in all our minds. I'm so thankful for having the Dreamette nearby where even for a moment we can escape from the chaos of this crazy world and just have pure enjoyment of the sweetest treat ....Ice Cream P.S. I meant to take a picture of my beautiful ice cream cone but as soon as I had it in my hands it was melting so fast that I had it all over my clothes, felt just like a kid again

Mark S.

Yelp
My go to for dipped cones. My kids favorite place especially when we're going to the park in Avondale. They open late but they have the best dipped cones ever the best soft serve ice cream I love it. Take a day there take your kids there do whatever you want just go

Joseph M.

Yelp
Dream mad ice cream is been around as long as I can remember at least 20 years the only thing bad about it it's cash only no credit card and a debit card and the lines are long so you will have to get online to get your food

Cherish C.

Yelp
Very good especially the ice cream cones. Definitely reccomend going there.

Bree W.

Yelp
Had two banana splits. Don't necessarily like that they were in cups, but everything tasted great & was reasonably priced! Yum!
