Great place. We stayed at a Full Service RV site. We could view the lake from our back window. There is plenty of shade and several spots for swimming access. Restrooms are clean and maintained. The Tackle Shop is a nice convenience store. Not a whole lot to do at the park, but it was a good trip. The herd of deer roaming the area daily is a bonus.

South Carolina has some Great Lakes and great state parks, and Dreher Island may top the list. We stayed at one of their tent sites last May, but I rebooked almost immediately after that trip because I wanted to bring my boat. Tons of sites of all types, but make sure you’re looking 6+ months out as they fill up. All sites have water and power hookups, which is a luxury we’re not usually used to. Multiple bath houses are easily accessible from every site. There almost isn’t a bad site in the whole loop - they’re very nearly all waterfront, which is a real benefit to pull the boat right up once you put in at the marina. Lots of additional parking at the marina and near the camp loop for your boat or truck or trailer to tuck it out of the way while you camp. We had to contact the ranger about a picnic table during our stay, and they were quick to respond. Boat ramps and parking are plentiful and nice, and the marina store has all odds and ends you may have forgotten. Take advantage of their loaner rod and tackle program if you forget yours. Great spot to spend the weekend on the water whether you’re in a tent or an RV.

There are leaches any where you go to swim at this state park. But it was super fun and relaxing. The camp host was super nice! A big storm came and it dropped trees. Everyone's tent was destroyed. There was a mom running in the storm with her kids to safety after the roof was lifted off their tent. It was terrifying to say the least. We were without power for 8 hours. I also didn't see any playgrounds there.

I liked that u can swim anywhere u deem a good spot as well as fish n the same manner. There was a great spot to swim with room under the trees to sit n the shade. We had a birthday party there & it was very nice! They could use more bathrooms tho!

Tons of picnic tables and grills. All of them are open to reservations on the weekends, they’re all completely booked up. So there’s basically no space to grill or picnic tables available on the weekends. The worst part is every spot is reserved for the whole day only. So half of the spots, don’t have anyone in them most of the day, but you can’t use them. Plus, they don’t have any minimum number of people requirement for some of the larger spots. So you get three people at an area big enough for 20 or 30 people, and no way for anyone to only reserve half of the shelter. Super pretty park with very nice facilities, but just don’t bother coming here on the weekends

I always love going to dreher island. It's beautiful and getting a picnic shelter by the water is great!!! It has a beach area for family to swim and also a fishing area. It even has a playground if you're lucky enough to reserve an area near one, which I was. The only thing that I had a problem with was the bathrooms. It was not clean at all and wreaked of urine. Other than that, It was wonderful fun!!!

Could be better…the park is definitely going down and little has been done regarding upgrades. Lake Murray is a popular lake, so I’m surprised my the lack of upkeep. The grass is overgrown at the campsites, the roads are terrible with pot holes everywhere, leaking pipes, sewer holes without caps. Most sites are ridiculously uneven. No other amenities like the other parks. Hiking trails are far from campsites.

Great vacation spot, we go up there and camp very frequently. It's a great place to run, bike, swim, and dive. We got to see a lot of cool nature, and there was lots of great useful things around like the large boat ramps and the private marina.
