Drift San Jose del Cabo (Los Cabos, Baja California Sur) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"With its soft neutral tones, handwoven linen, and abundance of wicker, Drift oozes a bright, airy charm that feels at one with the kind of relaxing coastal getaway its residents have traveled here for. Free yoga sessions and a tranquil pool are perfect for unwinding, while those looking for a little more action can take advantage of the complimentary surfing gear, or party the night away with an eye-widening range of mezcals in the bar." - Tablet Hotels

We recently stayed at Drift in San José del Cabo, and it was an absolutely delightful experience. The hotel's aesthetic is modern and minimalistic, with clean architectural lines, white facades, and an inviting courtyard that features tall palm trees and a serene plunge pool. The vibe is effortlessly chic, offering a perfect blend of contemporary design and relaxed comfort. One of the standout features is its prime location—everything is within walking distance. Whether we wanted to explore local shops, enjoy vibrant cafes, or experience the cultural charm of San José del Cabo, Drift made it incredibly easy. The ambiance is serene, making it a great place to unwind after a day of adventure. We loved the thoughtful details, cozy seating areas, and the overall peaceful atmosphere. The friendly staff added to our positive experience, ensuring we felt welcome throughout our stay. We enjoyed Drift so much that we've already decided to stay here again the next time we visit San José del Cabo. Highly recommended for travelers seeking style, convenience, and tranquility!

Drift San José del Cabo is an amazing property. I truly enjoyed my stay and felt safe and well cared for throughout. The staff was attentive and responsive to my needs. The rooms were spotless, the beds were incredibly comfortable, and everything smelled fresh and refreshing. I absolutely loved the architecture of the property—it's beautifully designed, and the views from every angle are stunning. The breakfast offered on-site is both affordable and delicious, which was a great bonus. The location is PRIME—right in the heart of San José del Cabo. You’re surrounded by popular shops, art galleries, and restaurants, and everything is within walking distance. I had a wonderful time and will book again!

Google
Location was amazing. We split our vacation in two - 3 nights here for a “city” experience following by 3 nights at a beach hotel. We had so much fun exploring the city. We booked the “ Baja Suite”. Highly recommend paying the little extra for this room. It was very private and roomy. Hotel itself was very relaxed and pretty. Room was cozy and the staff were lovely. There is a spa next door where we had an awesome massage. Would stay again.

Google
Laid back atmosphere to the hotel and staff. They were flexible and accommodating with allowing us to check in early. The room was very clean, great decoration, and even had a welcome Champaign for our anniversary. We enjoyed a late night dip in the pool and complimentary mezcal. Next morning we enjoyed oat milk latte and delicious breakfast tacos. ||Overall great price, clean hotel, and good food.

Google
Great hotel in Cabo if you’re looking for a more authentic experience than an inclusive, beachfront resort. Great property in a cool part of town with different restaurants and shopping all within a couple of blocks. Mau and Juan Carlos at the restaurant + bar went above and beyond to ensure our stay was exceptional. They were so kind and welcoming to us and extremely knowledgeable about the varieties of Mezcal. I’d come back just to see them again! Mis amigos!

Alex helped my wife and me during our stay. He was very kind and truly tried to provide the best service, which made us feel well taken care of. The hotel has a lot of positives. It’s located right in the heart of downtown, so we could easily walk to great restaurants and shopping spots. Also, the room was clean and stylish.

Google
The rooms here are amazing! Our bed was so so comfortable, which was much appreciated at the end of our travels in Baja. (Feather bed, feather pillows, all the luxury) The lotions and soaps smell amazing, we really felt pampered here. The amount of luxury we felt for the price we paid was 10/10. We booked a room with a tub in it, which unfortunately was on the third floor and there is no elevator - however the staff did offer help with our luggage. The pool is rather small for how many people were staying there, but it was still a nice space to be in. The restaurant and bar is great! The location is great, very close to a lot of cute shops and restaurants. The wifi works great, you might have to reconnect after awhile of not using it, but overall it stays connected and it fast.

Google
I was a guest at the Drift San Jose del Cabo hotel in June and had about the worst experience imaginable. My room was located on the third floor of the hotel, and to my surprise, there was no elevator to be found. The staircase leading to the 2nd and 3rd floors was not designed to US standards, as it was very steep with narrow steps and no handrail. Unfortunately, I slipped on these steps and broke my ankle. The hotel was tough to deal with, and after a long time, provided a partial refund for my room nights. This hotel is a member of the Marriott Bonvoy hotel group, in which I hold Gold Elite status. However, don't expect any special treatment, as the hotel showed little concern for the safety (or lack thereof) of its premises. Additionally, while their website says they serve breakfast, I found the restaurant closed both mornings of my stay and was unable to eat breakfast on the property. To add insult to injury (literally), the air conditioning in my room also needed repair during my stay. In summary, I'd say The Drift is all style and no substance. Guests beware and stay here at your own risk.

Yelp
The amazing drinks, outstanding food, great service, and the overall charm of the hotel truly make it a standout destination. Highly recommend for a memorable stay!

Yelp
Going to be so honest about this hotel: We checked in on a Friday. We got NO sleep because there is a disco dance place next door. Extremely loud! Did I say LOUD????? They have no formal checkin desk Their restaurant is outside. No air conditioning They have no elevators Stairs everywhere No one to help you carry your luggage anywhere. You are on your own They have no place to hang your clothes Our bathtub/shower had no shower curtain Do not stay here

Yelp
Our family stumbled upon this cute little eatery. Taking a break from the sun we enjoyed a delightful quesadilla and steak tacos. It definitely has a boutique vibe. I would definitely recommend The Drift.

Yelp
Stayed at this hotel for the honeymoon; the place is very on point with the vibe- chill and fun. Good food and a good experience, biggest reason it's not 5 stars for me is how loud it was. I understand that it's partly the neighbourhood- it's a party area but the styling of the hotel means that it echoes and was consistently loud all night long. Breakfast the next day was okay but not phenomenal. I'd visit again but with earplugs

Yelp
A hidden well designed gem in San Jose Del Cabo! So glad we booked our stay here, we loved this great urban oasis a block from the main plaza. Everything is walking distance to local restaurants, bars, art galleries, and shops. Drift is very minimalistic and unique with the cutest touches in the room. The staff is super friendly!! Lucy and Cristina were so accommodating, fantastic and were always available whenever we needed them. They also have a virtual assistant, Eva who was quick to respond, friendly and texted daily. I highly recommend Drift and I can't wait to check out their upcoming locations in California in fall 2022 and 2023. We originally booked Drift for two nights but ended up staying for 3 nights due to Hurricane Kay. The staffed made us feel safe, they had breakfast for us every morning and it was delicious. Every corner is picturesque and there was not one thing we didn't like about this place. This place is amazing!

Yelp
Loved this boutique hotel! Staff was amazing, the vibe was off the chart, the food was good! Highly recommend

Yelp
All the above! Seriously. The vibe was calm and unassuming. The food was delicious, and the coffee--could not even consider exploring elsewhere. The service was unobtrusive and available when needed. A great (and reasonable) find!!

Yelp
We are in love with this adorable bar and restaurant. We had a six pour flight of mezcal with Christina, and it was perfect. She took time to select a wide selection of various styles and flavors, carefully explaining the nuisances between each pour. We learned how to taste mezcal along with some history of distillation in Mexico. We paired our tasting with a Tuna Ponzu that was incredibly deep in local flavors and style. If the hotel is anything like this experience, then it's worth booking and experiencing for yourself. Either way you can't go wrong visiting this delightful outdoor mezcal bar!

Yelp
Fantastic food, drinks and service! Well designed area and chill music. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a vibey spot off the crowded street.

Yelp
This small boutique hotel has amazing ambiance and the rooms are really nice (authentic Baja). The people are nice and the food is excellent. The all around hotel experience is 5 star. San Jose deal Cabo can be a lively town and the only drawback for us was the proximity to the Dalton Gin Bar. The music is very loud late into the night, so just something to be aware of if you are looking for a quieter experience.

Yelp
This place! Hidden gem that feels like an oasis. Can't say enough positive about the stay. Staff, rooms, pool, drinks, food, location, design. Yes!

Yelp
A hidden little gem in San Jose Del Cabo! Rooms are well appointed, staff is super friendly. Cristina was fantastic and so welcoming, always there to help no matter what we needed. The bar was really cool and the tacos were great! Pool is really nice as well, definitely recommend and will be back!

Yelp
I wanted to take a solo trip this year to somewhere where I didn't have to travel far and close to the beach. I stumbled upon Drift and had to book because the architecture was gorgeous, minimalist, stylish and modern. It seemed like everything was hand selected and unique, which really made my experience amazing. On Thursday nights, they have live music and serve tacos and mezcal! It was such a good vibe and the tacos were BOMB! The hotel is located in the Art Walk, so it's lively and vibrant. Best solo trip location ever and I'll definitely come back again when I need another mini vacation!

Yelp
Friendly staff, nice location, stylish premises. Can't recommend though, since we were overcharged and got unexpected charges on our credit card. We've been trying to resolve, but not luck so far.

Yelp
This has been the worst hotel experience of our lives. We paid extra for the paradise cove suite, which we did not even get. We got a tiny room that looks nothing like the photos. We are so sad with our experience right now. It's after 11pm and we are trying to find another hotel online because the DJ has been playing the most loud music for hours. Our room is even shaking. The TV in our room doesn't even work to try to drown out the DJ Music. We cannot get any channels to work. The light glowing outside our room door is so bright we have to put pillows over our faces to make it dark. This hospitality is a shame. Hope they can rectify this awful experience. it's so loud that sleeping isn't even an option at this point. And that was the point of booking a hotel. This is awful :(

Diane E.

Yelp
Don't get me wrong; my husband and I loved Drift. The location was great, the on site management very helpful, the minimalist aesthetic and pool were all very relaxing. The problem comes at 11 pm. The hotel is across the street from a rooftop techno dance club. Every night at 11 the noise would wake us up and by midnight our room would be vibrating until 2 am. It was horrible for a light sleeper like me. I'd get about an our and a half of sleep, then be awake for 2 and a half hours, then back to sleep. I was exhausted from that schedule. I spoke with someone on property and they said the club, La Revolucion, has an "agreement" with the government and Drift hasn't been able to get the local police to respond to their noise complaints. This is a really sad situation, but we can't recommend this hotel nor stay there again until they get this problem resolved.

Yelp
Stayed at this property during a business trip. Property had a rustic vibe. Ideally located in downtown where I got to explore the neighborhood and local outlets. Loved the charm and vibe of the property. Amazing stay.

Yelp
Fantastic little hideaway in downtown San Jose. We booked it last minute and really didn't expect much but really found a hidden gem. The design is super cool and laid back, the tacos on Thursday night were the bomb. We rented a car so getting from the airport was straightforward. Best thing is we found a sweet little surf spot only about 10mins drive away. Defo coming back next year.

Yelp
Drift is a modern oasis in the heart of the arts district, and my husband and I really enjoyed our stay for several reasons. The location, amenities, friendly staff, and beautiful modern design made it a no-brainer choice for a hotel in San Jose del Cabo. Drift is also 1/2-1/3 the price of many of the resorts in town, and for what we wanted (food, galleries, location, human connection and most important: RELAXATION) it was a great fit. Drift is a modern oasis in the heart of the arts district, and my husband and I really enjoyed our stay for several reasons: Location // An abundance of cafes and restaurants in San Jose del Cabo are accessible by foot from Drift. Lolita Cafe (our fave), La Lupita, the French Bakery, La Panaderia in Plaza don Carlos, and Coffee Lab were our favorites. La Dolce gets points for is Italian food. When we couldn't walk, we took cabs, once to the beach at Hotel Ganzo (500 pesos a person gains you entry to the rooftop pool *or* the beach club - they credit you this amount at the bar for food/drink, highly recommend), and once for a lazy lunch at Flora Farms (a must see!!). We didn't make it to Acre, but heard good things from other guests. There are LOTS of art galleries nearby, and as a jewelry designer, I was pleasantly surprised to find so many jewelry shops in the area (I'm still dreaming about a bracelet I tried on at Jonathan Sánchez). People // The staff was very friendly but they were never invasive. We really enjoyed chatting with both the owner, Stu, and Angel, both were always happy to answer our questions. On Thursdays, Drift opens the food cart and their private courtyard for the Art Walk. We got to mingle with local artists, expats and guests which was a cool experience. Amenities // The sheets and towels were 100% cotton (yay) and the water was clean and (mostly) warm when we needed it for showers. BUT If you need lots of extras or crave a "resort" experience, book elsewhere. Stu designed Drift for explorers, and as such, room service doesn't exist, and neither do in-room refrigerators, etc. There is a main refrigerator (the Honor Bar) that vends chilled water, beer, and Pellegrino, and granola bars and nuts are available for purchase if you need a snack. We didn't have a car, and therefore didn't make it to a "real" grocery store once the entire trip, so having the Honor Bar was really handy. Design // The pool was very clean and the grounds were immaculate. In the evenings, we sat around the fire, read, and swam and occasionally visited with some of the other guests. As a gardener, I loved feasting my eyes upon the multitude of plants and birds on the property. Price // Drift is 1/2-1/3 the price of many of the resorts in town, and for what we wanted (food, galleries, location, human connection and most important RELAXATION) it was a great fit. Thank you, Team Drift!

Yelp
We love this place! The location is awesome. There are a ton of places to walk to in the town and it's centrally located to the bigger tourist attractions if you want to go that route. San Jose is a great little town and a perfect home base. The hotel itself is relaxing. If you're looking for a fancy place with Egyptian linens and breakfast in bed, this isn't for you. If you have good taste in design and like meeting interesting people while sipping amazing mezcal, then this is your jam. It is reminiscent of the Ace in Palm Springs but with no kids to ruin the fun. Random comments: There is no parking but street parking is easy It's close to the taxi zone and bus stops The pool is small but it's a perfect temperature Everything feels clean and new I hate to use the term hipster but it is hipster in the best sense of the word. Free coffee and fresh oj in the morning. Around the corner from one of the best taco places Reasonable price SUPER friendly staff The suggested places on the welcome guide are 100% awesome I would definitely stay here again

Yelp
I was booked into Cabo for a bachelor party and it got cancelled. So, I decided to go solo and when I heard about Drift it just seemed like a great place to stay. It was and now that I've been I'd say it's a mix between a hostel and a W hotel. Strange, I know, but you just have to go and see what I mean. There's some seriously beautiful design that has gone into this place and everything has been thought out really well. Even the mezcal bar was made so that everyone has a chance to talk to everyone else at the bar. It's great. Other details... The staff and owner are very welcoming but not intrusive. You are given all the tools you need to get out and snorkel, ride bikes, explore the area and/or just sit on the beach with a cooler and read. Depending on what night it is there's typically something fun going on (Art walk, mixology, food truck, organic market, etc.). Just ask - I found Angel, Mauricio, Stu (the owner) and Leo to be some of the nicest folks you'll find anywhere. Advice: You might bring nice clothes for going out at night, Drift is right in the middle of a fancy Art district and I found myself feeling a little under dressed at times. Also, I'd say renting a car and/or having access to one is key to fully exploring the area.

Kelsey F.

Yelp
Great little spot in the Gallery District. The pool is perfect to beat the heat, and it is and it's easy to get to everything from here. I'm going back in a month and can't wait.

Yelp
Drift is a true gem of Los Cabos. Impeccable design, mixed with a welcoming staff in a wonderful location. I throughly enjoyed their Mezcal cocktails and dining at the food truck hosted by Lugareño. I didn't have the opportunity to stay at the hotel this time but I'm making plans to return soon! I highly recommend anyone "drift" into Drift during their stay in Los Cabos.

Megan R.

Yelp
This place was awesome! Drift was comfortable with a clean design and served as the perfect home base for our 5 night stay. Drift is in the center of the arts district, great restaurants, shops, and nightlife. It also makes a great home base if you want to rent a car and take a day trip to Cabo San Lucas, Todos Santos, etc. There is plenty of free street parking, the taxi stop is 1 block away and the bus stop is 2 blocks away. The aesthetic is minimalist and modern, we stayed in a large size room (#8) which was very spacious with an open concept and hammock. The vibe is similar to the Ace Hotel. If you are looking for something ultra luxurious or tons of amenities, I would keep looking. The courtyard has a very small pool and bar and Angel, our bartender, was amazing. The courtyard has food trucks and opens up to the public on certain days- which was so fun! Would highly recommend.

Yelp
A beautifully done modern boutique hotel. Great balance of industrial and nature. This place is one of the most stylish hotels in Cabo. Great service. Uniquely stylish rooms. Gorgeous rooftop views. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Awesome place with awesome people. Where the cool locals and travelers hang out. Mezcal bar and food cart Thursday great for meeting people.

Brandon R.

Yelp
Awful experience. Went to sit at bar and grab food however manger was very rude. We were only ones at bar on a Saturday night and still had awful time. Bartender was nice manager or owner was not.

Lauren O.

Yelp
We stopped by the courtyard restaurant/bar while wandering the neighborhood during the Thursday art walk and were drawn in by the smell of the food cooking outside. We got the grilled cheese and tuna tartar tacos as well as a mezcal margarita and a mezcalima. Everything was delicious! The setting was serene and we had good conversation with other travelers hanging out there.

Yelp
Ny husband and I stayed at The Thompson and El Ganzo the last time we visited Cabo and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at both places. We brought 20 yr old triplets to Cabo for their first trip here and again stayed at El Ganzo. My husband and I wanted to stay at Drift but thought the kids would enjoy the activities at El Ganzo more. While we were in town, we took the kids to Drift to sit at Mezcal bar to see if it was a place my husband and I would enjoy coming back to on our own without the kids. I read everything about how it's open to the public for drinks and taco trucks on Thursday and Saturday nights, so we decided to give it a try. Again, my husband and I thought we may like to stay here on our own soon. We entered the courtyard and there was no taco truck to be found. A man who I presume was the manager, very rudely told my husband and 2 20 yr olds that they were not welcome there and would make the guests feel uncomfortable sitting in the chaise lounge chairs by the pool. The entire courtyard was empty and 2 women were at the bar. My other 2o yr old and I were at the bar ordering drinks. The man was rude and dismissive and made the rest of my family feel awkward and unwelcome. We will not be staying here in the future. I must say that the margarita I had was delicious. This manager continued to talk to the bartender about how we shouldn't be there as we sat and I quickly drank my margarita at the fire pit. We have traveled the world. My kids are respectful college students and were there with their parents. We weren't loud or disruptive in any way. We will stay elsewhere when we return to the area.

Yelp
Absolutely adore this hotel and want to make it my home. Excellent modern fresh organic design, help your self/honor system style kitchen.
