Yelp
Drift is a modern oasis in the heart of the arts district, and my husband and I really enjoyed our stay for several reasons. The location, amenities, friendly staff, and beautiful modern design made it a no-brainer choice for a hotel in San Jose del Cabo. Drift is also 1/2-1/3 the price of many of the resorts in town, and for what we wanted (food, galleries, location, human connection and most important: RELAXATION) it was a great fit.
Drift is a modern oasis in the heart of the arts district, and my husband and I really enjoyed our stay for several reasons:
Location // An abundance of cafes and restaurants in San Jose del Cabo are accessible by foot from Drift. Lolita Cafe (our fave), La Lupita, the French Bakery, La Panaderia in Plaza don Carlos, and Coffee Lab were our favorites. La Dolce gets points for is Italian food. When we couldn't walk, we took cabs, once to the beach at Hotel Ganzo (500 pesos a person gains you entry to the rooftop pool *or* the beach club - they credit you this amount at the bar for food/drink, highly recommend), and once for a lazy lunch at Flora Farms (a must see!!). We didn't make it to Acre, but heard good things from other guests. There are LOTS of art galleries nearby, and as a jewelry designer, I was pleasantly surprised to find so many jewelry shops in the area (I'm still dreaming about a bracelet I tried on at Jonathan Sánchez).
People // The staff was very friendly but they were never invasive. We really enjoyed chatting with both the owner, Stu, and Angel, both were always happy to answer our questions. On Thursdays, Drift opens the food cart and their private courtyard for the Art Walk. We got to mingle with local artists, expats and guests which was a cool experience.
Amenities // The sheets and towels were 100% cotton (yay) and the water was clean and (mostly) warm when we needed it for showers. BUT If you need lots of extras or crave a "resort" experience, book elsewhere. Stu designed Drift for explorers, and as such, room service doesn't exist, and neither do in-room refrigerators, etc. There is a main refrigerator (the Honor Bar) that vends chilled water, beer, and Pellegrino, and granola bars and nuts are available for purchase if you need a snack. We didn't have a car, and therefore didn't make it to a "real" grocery store once the entire trip, so having the Honor Bar was really handy.
Design // The pool was very clean and the grounds were immaculate. In the evenings, we sat around the fire, read, and swam and occasionally visited with some of the other guests. As a gardener, I loved feasting my eyes upon the multitude of plants and birds on the property.
Price // Drift is 1/2-1/3 the price of many of the resorts in town, and for what we wanted (food, galleries, location, human connection and most important RELAXATION) it was a great fit.
Thank you, Team Drift!
