"Atlas District watering hole Driftwood Kitchen, which had most recently been running both regular and late-night happy hours in order to capture more of H Street’s bar hopping clientele, is no more. A tipster sent Popville a picture of a farewell note tacked to the door of the suddenly shuttered establishment. 'To our neighborhood friends: Driftwood Kitchen is now closed. We want to thank you for your support,' reads the succinct sign off. The decision to bolt the doors must have happened overnight; management was still talking up a planned New Year’s Eve celebration at noon on December 31. The neighborhood eatery debuted in late 2014, taking over the two-story, corner spot left behind by scandal-plagued, Big Easy-themed Truorleans. The opening chefs jumped ship within six months, departing to open Provision No. 14 over by U Street NW. Short-lived boozy cereal service followed that fall. Most recently, Driftwood had taken to running daily happy hour deals (5 p.m. to 8 p.m, Monday through Friday; 4 p.m. to 7 p.m, Saturday and Sunday) as well as late-night specials on weekends (10 p.m. to 1 a.m., Friday and Saturday). Calls to Driftwood Kitchen requesting comment about the sudden closure were not returned." - Warren Rojas

I really wanted to like this place. The atmosphere and managers were nice. We had a terrible server, though, who seemed really unhappy and was not at all attentive. For example, she brought out our appetizers and then asked if we wanted to order more food, even though we had also already ordered entrees. This occurred at a time when they weren’t very busy. Most of the food was as expected, but the shepherd’s pie was very small given that it was labeled as an entree. Also, the bathroom was out of paper towels.

Went there for happy hour with friends. Great food (I recommend ordering two apps per person and one entree, plates are medium-large size and great for sharing). The upstairs area looks like a great place to rent for parties (there was a semi-private gathering while I was there). Awesome exposed brick, because who doesn't like that??, floor to ceiling windows, and retro movie-like lighting.

This used to be one of my go to spots on H street, but sadly after my most recent experience I won't be going back. The food was bland, and the service was embarrassingly bad. We were given mimosa pitchers, but no glasses to drink them with. I had to go to the bartender to ask for the glasses because there was only one waitress for the entire downstairs. The glasses I was given were plastic, and looked dirty. We ended up using our water glasses instead due to the sanitary concerns of the plastic champagne glasses. Our food took forever to come out, and only one person in our party was satisfied with the food quality. We bumped into a friend of ours who was leaving because she never got her food, and decided to go eat across the street at Nandos instead. Don't waste your money or time at this place!!!!

Came here last night for some late night drinks. They have great drink specials on Monday night. I had a statesman special which was a DC brau public ale with a shot is Kentucky whiskey for $10. They had other drink specials that were all fantastic. The upstairs area is where my group sat. It was nice upstairs with a view of H street. Friendly service and nice interior decorating.

Great brunches and fantastic evening cocktails. Upstairs bar is large and never feels cramped. Never feel like it's difficult at all to get a drink. Service is always excellent with a kind and courteous staff.

The open air second floor is a great place to catch a cool breeze, and the staff is friendly. Burgers taste fresh and were cooked to order, but not really memorable. Would like to return to try happy hour or brunch.

I got here very late on a weeknight, so I probably didn't get the best representation of the vibe of this place, but I ordered a few cocktails and a snack from the late-night bar menu and was totally satisfied. The two cocktails I ordered were probably the most annoying cocktails to ask the bartender to make, but they were two of the best cocktails I've ever had. I also tried the falafel fried chicken, which were basically chicken fingers battered in a chickpea mix of some kind rather than breading with a selection of dipping sauces, and it was the perfect midnight snack for me. I would love to experience the full menu and the energy of the place when it's busy.

Love this place! Friendly bartenders serving good food and drinks. The tatchoes (tater tot nachoes) are a fave of mine. They have an indoor area downstairs and a covered deck upstairs that is perfect for beautiful weather days. You know that awful feeling when happy hour ends? Well, happy hour at Driftwood goes until 8pm, which helps prolong that feeling just a little longer. Definitely recommend this place!
