The Best Restaurants in West Seattle | Eater Seattle

"The media, us included, has made a fuss of Driftwood’s hyper-local sourcing and ever-changing, ultra-seasonal menu. It’s the only restaurant where we’ve eaten pawpaw, which is like a cross between a melon and a kiwi, and one of the few places in Seattle that has served squab. But how about their pull-apart rolls? These menu fixtures are warm, soft, light, inviting, and come with lavender herb butter. Order them to start a meal, order them for dessert, just order them." - Laura LeMoon

This was one of my favorite meals from our vacation to the Pacific Northwest. We were in Cannon Beach for a couple days in August and came here for dinner on a Monday night. We sat at the bar and were promptly greeted by the bartender. He provided menus and gave a few minutes to decide on drinks and meals. We shared the Dungeness crab cocktail appetizer and each ordered meals. I had the lemon caper baked salmon and it was very good. The menu says it comes on a bed of onions and I wasn’t sure how that was going to be but it was very small chopped onion and with the dill sauce on top of that it was delicious. I opted for the side of vegetables and it was a generous portion and they were perfectly cooked. Our bartender was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was casual and easygoing. The lighting was a bit dim but I felt that made it a little more rustic cabin feeling instead of dark dungeon. The place was somewhat full that evening but it wasn’t loud. Prices were comparable to similar seafood restaurants we have been to. We walked from our hotel but I think there is a parking lot if I remember correctly. This was a very good dinner.

We were quickly seated in the lounge area on a busy day, which we very much appreciated. Service has been very friendly. The lighting is a bit dim and could be improved. The food is excellent, including the salmon Caesar salad, roast beef sandwich, fish sandwich, crab dip, clam chowder.

Yet another 5 star review. Excellent all-around dining experience. Chris, our server, was attentive and kind. She understood the assignment as the kids say. The food was on point, and to whoever was bartering, kudos to you! The drinks were delicious 😋

Rayven “Mae”

Google
Food was delicious. I had the special that night which was prime rib and prawns. My group got the onion rings, calamari, and the crab dip (my favorite). Our server was steve and he was very helpful with what to order.

Google
This place is incredible. The service was phenomenal. From getting seated immediately to having an awesome waitress, we had multiple workers ask us about how the food was and they kept our dining experience clean/uncluttered. We got steamed clams, tempura shrimp, and coho salmon. All of it was executed perfectly and left us feeling starstruck. The only disappointing thing I can say about Driftwood is that every restaurant we ate at after paled in comparison. They really raised the bar and kept our expectations up high. We will for sure be back.

Everything was very delicious, wonderful service, excellent vibe and calming relaxing energy , ocean atmosphere, outside sitting with fireplace, great wine, Sea food, amazing service and very smiley people!!! Would definitely come back and suggest to all my friends! 👍💞🔥 🤤😋

Google
Great atmosphere right in the middle of Cannon Beach AND dog friendly! Greeted with a smile and treats for our pup! The food was outstanding. We ordered the French Dip with sautéed onions and Swiss cheese and the small portion of fish and chips. Both had great flavor. This place is one of our favorites in Cannon Beach.

Google
Put our names on the list for dinner and was given 45 minutes for a party of 9, we came back around 40 minutes to check in and the hostess was a little rude, updates are great, especially since we have kids. I get that they have a texting system, but we definitely just wanted to follow up. Service was great and the food was pretty good. We came back several times to go to the bar. Its a nice location.

Yelp
What a super fun night!!!! We had a blast and we completely recommend this place. The service was absolutely fantastic. Laurita is an absolutely incredible waitress. She had a stitches, laughing and she had impeccable timing checking on us. You can tell she really cares about her job and wants her customers to be happy. She made our first night in Cannon Beach so memorable. Rosie... who helps out with the tables... was absolutely adorable as well. She was so attentive her happiness was infectious. The wine was absolutely delicious... We bought a bottle of the Pinot Noir! We loved every drop of it. We really appreciated the late hours and the outdoor ambience was so lovely. I really took in the fact that all the customers on the patio were so polite and even somewhat quiet. Nobody was loud or rambunctious. I would come back here again... My husband's steak was melt in your mouth delicious and was cooked to perfection. Absolutely fabulous! My burger was- waaaa waaaa sad. I think the chef might've talked through cooking it... I asked for on the rare side, and it came out well done, it wasn't juicy or big. I think it might've been a frozen patty. Not sure. The menu looks absolutely delicious. Just come here and get something other than the burger. The oyster shooter was yum too! Thank you DRIFTWOOD!

Yelp
Our first time visiting Cannon Beach and decided on this restaurant for dinner. We started off with calamari- DELICIOUS! It was tasty and nicely battered. It wasn't super thick and crunchy, very fresh and light. Mom had the Fish and Chips - Yumm!! The fish was buttery and crisp ~ very tasty! I had the Wedge Salad ~ lettuce was crisp, and the flavor combination of the bacon, blue cheese and tomato was perfect. Daughter had the fettuccine Alfredo with prawns. So good!! Other daughter had a cheese burger and didn't leave a crumb. Would love to come back when my daughters are 21 so we can enjoy a nice meal on the patio! Such a great location and overall experience. Service was quick and staff were friendly and attentive.

Yelp
We came for lunch and the line moved quickly. We both ordered the Salmon and Clam Chowder. The food was on time and warm. Our Server was fantastic and he came by several times to make sure we were satisfied with our food and asked if we needed anything else. We sat outside and could not ask for a better place to sit and eat our food and watch everyone pass by on the street Glad we came Here and if we make it back Up here we will Definitely stop here again.

Yelp
My first 1/5 on yelp. This place was super touristy and the food didn't taste good. The best thing was the fish and chips and those were subpar. Clam chowder had no real flavor and the sourdough had no crunch. Oyster PoBoy was actually bad, like I had a bite and couldn't even take another. Onion rings had no seasoning. And the ribs were so dry. I would never come back and never recommend someone to come here.

Yelp
Super romantic and boujee vibes! Small space and super well done. Feels luxurious and intimate. Snacks and drinks were so good

Yelp
We look forward to coming to this place every time we're in Cannon Beach. The deck is so nice & dog friendly, the service is excellent & the food is always great as well. This time we got a Chardonnay, beer & Bloody Mary while we decided on our meal order. We started with oyster shooters & crab cocktail- so fresh & delicious! We decided on the ribs- amazing- fall off the bone & very flavorful. The turkey sandwich with clam chowder- so yummy- lots of turkey & the clam chowder is so good. The turkey club- also delicious with lots of turkey & bacon & the fries were hot & crispy. We look forward to coming back soon!

Yelp
Good, simple local restaurant. No frills, but they make a good clam chowder and also fish and chips. They also have a nice outdoor area as well. Comforting to find a place like this in a beach town.

Yelp
Portions are huge! Salmon was so good! love the atmosphere, sat outside bec of our puppy! Very dog friendly!!! We loved the salmon bec it wasn't dry the hummus plate was okay but the chicken wings were so delicious! Service was good too! They kept on giving Archie some treats which was nice!

Yelp
Very 'upscale' restaurant in Cannon Beach. This place gets packed for dinner and would suggest making reservations, even during the week. I happened to call and ask if we needed one and she said they were booked for the evening, but had a cancellation for a spot that started in 30 min, so we got right down there. Very worth it. Drinks were strong and the server was friendly and attentive. Husband had steak, and I had the crab salad. Not sure if the crab salad was worth the $$ price, but it was very good. Steak was great too. Mentioned to my sister and they go there as well when visiting.
google avatar

Yelp
This was our favorite seafood place in cannon beach. The Dungeness crab was so good. The clam chowder was my favorite in the area. I ordered the salmon with a Pinot Grigio and all that was incredible as well. Loved this so much. Our server Chris was amazing too! Just all around the best .

Yelp
On our last day in cannon beach we stopped by to have dinner at the driftwood. we started off with onion rings, that looked like where beer battered, Delicious! We also tried the chowder, was a little watery but the flavor was good! I ended up getting the cod fish and chips, which were amazing! My boyfriend had the ribeye, with garlic bread and fries, the steak was cooked to perfection! The fries were okay, nothing too special. Our server was friendly and fast, their prices are reasonable. The restaurant had a cute blast from the past with old bottles of liquor in a see through glass wall, this restaurant also has outdoor setting.

Yelp
Right on the main drag of Cannon Beach, Driftwood has an amazing covered patio for those with doggos. We were actually cruising up and down the street seeing if any place had a covered patio (it was raining and didn't want to leave our pup in the car). So it was great to see their lovely patio with heat lamps and a gas fireplace going. We were seated right away and got the fish and chips. Service was amazing amazing! They checked in on us multiple times, gave us plenty of sauce, and filled our drinks regularly. Our pup was happy, we were happy, and I was so delighted with the food and service that I filled out a comment card for them then and there. This will be our go to place in Cannon Beach for sure!

Yelp
I'm surprised this place doesn't have a higher rating. I got the clam chowder, which was absolutely amazing! Probably the best clam chowder I've had since I moved from New England back in the 90s! I also got the halibut which was really good as well. My boyfriend got the filet mignon and he said it was absolutely delicious. Our server Kelly was great! I definitely would recommend this place. We were here on a trip from Colorado and if I ever come back to this area, this is a restaurant I would most definitely get back to. But a little more about that clam chowder, not only was it full of clams, but it was creamy and just so tasty! It wasn't full of potatoes like some chowders I've had. Super delicious! Fair warning all their food was extremely hot! Which is really a great thing because it was all fresh and not sitting under a heat lamp.

Yelp
An excellent start to a wonderful 24 hours in the fun town of Cannon Beach. We had just arrived in Cannon Beach and wanted to have a quick lunch. Our past go to has been Bill's, but the menu at the Driftwood was enticing. My wife had the Mediterranean Pita Sandwich and she loved it. It was huge, and it will also be lunch tomorrow. The accompanying fries were also enjoyed. I had the BLT and added turkey. Great sandwich. For beverages my wife had a pint of Vortex and I had a refreshing glass of Stoller Chardonnay. (I was impressed with the wine list) Nick was very efficient in taking care of. He was timely whenever we needed something. Thank You Driftwood Restaurant was we now have another quality restaurant in Cannon Beach to visit.

Yelp
So good!!! We tried the mocktails and they hit the spot!! Close to a ton of sights!! And cute shops. Good was delicious!! Call to get on list if you can or stop by early and put your name on the list. It's popular so wait times can be long. Plan ahead.

Yelp
Called as required to make reservations on Wed night for "tomorrow at 7p". Showed up Thurs at 7p. No reservation. Had her check the reservation book and the person put it down for Friday. I admit I should have checked the date when they wrote down the reservation, but the hostess showed absolutely no empathy or offered any help to get a table. We ended up leaving rather than being at the bottom of the waitlist.

Ilse P.

Yelp
Expensive for the quality. Food was below average on 3 of our 4 meals. Calamari:salty and tasteless Burger: dry Oyster Po-Boy: a coleslaw and bun meal with 2 oysters. Service was average. Fish and chips were good.

Kisha T.

Yelp
We love this place. Very friendly. Food is really good especially the clam chowder Love that they let dogs on the patio. We make sure to eat here every time we come to Cannon Beach.

Yelp
Our group stopped by after a hike for some much needed refueling. I ordered the burger with gf bun, my husband ordered the French dip and our other friend ordered the fish and chips. My burger was ok, good but nothing spectacular but the gf bun was soggy. Our friend's fish and chips were good but my husband's French dip was horrible. The meat tasted dry and like it was previously frozen. Not a memorable meal so I wouldn't recommend especially when they charge you for every little thing.

Debbie C.

Yelp
On our visit to Driftwood my husband had a halibut in a dill sauce with a bed of vegetables I had a Dungeness crab roll. Coleslaw was good not the best but good.! It was busy not a wait for a table , it was easy to have a conversation The vibe was great they do have out doors seating with heat The lighting was perfect you could read your menu Coffee very good and the cheesecake my husband had was berries and it changes every day very good It was a big severing If ever in Cannon Beach, I recommend you eat here Fernanda was very good
google avatar

Robert D.

Yelp
Service was impeccable. Susan had great suggestions. The coho salmon is a must have. We ate in the bar area which is very comfortable. The salmon Ceasars salad was also great.
google avatar

Jarrett L.

Yelp
Always come here when I am in town, and always leave full and satisfied. Call ahead if you want seating on your time, otherwise expect to wait when the beach is busy.
google avatar

Chris T.

Yelp
Was walking around town so we sat on the porch had a drink and some appetizers, service was fast and friendly... the the Dungeness crab and fried oysters were excellent.
google avatar

Dimple S.

Yelp
Onion rings 9/10 - we even ate some the next day and still so good. Big rings and a nice thick batter Wings 10/10 big juicy chicken crispy outside. Came with hot mustard and ketchup Crab casserole 10/10 rich cheesey sauce with a great amount of crab, came with a side of rice Fish and chips: 8/10 very fresh and crispy Chicken Alfredo: 7/10, nice noodles and perfect grilled chicken breast not much flavor in the sauce garnish of onions and green onions. Clam chowder was super good with real diced potatoes. Did not have bacon in it which was great as we cannot eat pork. Would get a bowl next time. Cherry limeade drink didn't seem to have any liquor. The server was very kind & brought my son some fancy lemonade.

Ryan C.

Yelp
Food was fine. Why not clearly disclose a 10% take out surcharge? I know why. Shady.
google avatar

Ankit P.

Yelp
We stopped by on the way back from Cannon Beach. The ambiance inside is nice and clean, and service was great. I got the hummus platter, loved the veggies and presentation The onion rings were huge, and everything came out fast. Besides what I got though there wasn't much vegetarian options. The onion rings could've been better, and even though we got a good amount of food, I felt that it was overpriced. On top of that they added a 5% "food tax" on the bill before tip, which is weird since we don't have sales tax on food in Oregon. But it is a long drive back and they're open late night so not a bad option if you need a bite after the beach
google avatar

Mikolaj R.

Yelp
An amazing experience, great quality food with a very fair price. Our waiter knew everything off the menu and was obviously experienced. The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere and you can sit both inside and outside.

Yelp
Wow!! D-LISH! What a great find! My husband and I had the house made chowder (amazing) - bread bowl was toasted~ thank you!! Then we had the steak salad and the fish and chips with house made blue cheese dressing as well as the house made tartar sauce were absolute perfection. Our server Susan and buser, Santiago were both wonderfully friendly and the coziness of the restaurant made for a perfect night out!

Yelp
This place was perfect! A bunch of us decided to visit coastal Oregon for hiking adventures and were told to check out Cannon Beach. Well, after getting some phenomenal pics on the beach, we were staaaarving! Thanks to Yelp, we found this cool little spot. There was a bit of a wait, but once we were seated inside (we could have dined outside as well), our waitress, Kelly, was endearing, polite, and super friendly. Kelly shared the soup specials and took our drink specials with the amount of urgency we desired. After toasting, we enjoyed our delicious, perfectly made cocktails and settled into our dinner options. We ordered a few filet mignons, the clam chowder in a sourdough bowl, the salmon, fish and chips, and the dungeness crab cocktail. Everyone finished their plates to completion and were super full when we left. The food was really, really tasty, considering this wasn't exactly the most fancy place in three area. Overall, the service was top notch, the drinks were delicious, and the food was exactly what we were looking for. Our only complaint was that the crab cocktail was shockingly lacking in flavor and texture. It was a bit chewy, which was odd as we're right here near the water. I excused this as a 'bad day' sitch and didn't think it should ruin the perfect 5 star rating as everything else was so good. If you're in town, this is a good place to stop by and 'fill her up!

Yelp
We had a party of 10. Age range 2 years to 69 years. Service was exemplary. Food was excellent. Make a reservation today!

Yelp
We stopped in for dinner on a Sunday afternoon. We sat outside because it felt warm but when the sun went down, it was actually freezing. They don't have heaters for the tables so it became uncomfortable until we went and grabbed heavy coats from the car. They do have a fire pit area that couples can sit around. On to the food. It was just ok. I wasn't real impressed. I ordered a french dip. Everything but the meat on the bread is extra. Onions? Extra. Cheese? Extra. Mushrooms? Extra. 5.00 total extra for those three ingredients. I hate being nickle and dimed. I ordered the sandwich as is and it was very dry with minimal roast beef. I had to ask for some horse radish to give it some flavor. I paid 17.25 for the sandwich and honestly I think Subway could have done it as well. We had to ask for refills on our drinks and I don't know if our server went on break or was handling tables inside of the restaurant but we didn't see her for quite a while after she delivered our order. There are a lot of options in Cannon Beach to eat. I don't think we would return here again.

Austin S.

Yelp
All of the food was bland, and I do mean all of it. For the price point we expected...more? The salmon was overcooked, hummus was extremely bland, the crab dip was okay. But for almost a $30 crab dip, I'd hoped it would be better than okay. Customer service was okay, nothing to write home about. Overall mediocre experience. There are better ways to spend $100
google avatar

Adam R.

Yelp
Service was great, I had a wedge salad and a Dungeness crab sandwich and clam chowder. Very rustic decor. Food was good, I wasn't a fan of the sandwich, but I've never had one before, so it might just not be my thing. The chowder was fantastic and the wedge was great.
google avatar

Ben C.

Yelp
One of the most well seen establishments in CB ~ fun fire pit patio off the main street, people watch in the shine or drizzle. Lots of dogs lounging on the ground so careful where you step. Inside dark and loud. Menu is standard American grill and touristy pricey. Service is friendly and constantly hustling through the peak hours.
google avatar

Rachel B.

Yelp
Service was good, but the food was so so. Got the clam chowder soup and it was meh. It was very thick and not well seasoned. The chicken Cesar salad was good, but nothing special. It was nice being able to sit outside since the sun out and shining.

Tisa K.

Yelp
I feel like it's hard to rate because we didn't have dinner BUT: my husband had the ginger mule which he loved! I loved my Riesling. The Oreo cheesecake was pretty good but a little more dense than we like. But our server Jennifer was amazing!!!! She was a great end to our night!

Yelp
We eat here every visit to Cannon Beach . We love the staff, food and dog friendly patio

Yelp
Food was great, service was friendly. Very nice vibe! Host offered us a coloring page which was nice.

Yelp
The service was very good, the atmosphere was very nice, but the food was extremely overpriced and very below average.

Yelp
Again, fabulous food! Service is nice, expect some waiting time especially outside! Everything is delicious!

Jeff C.

Yelp
Went in expecting good food based on how nice it looked on the outside and inside. The prices are on the higher side but it's a touristy location so it's expected. We ordered the burger, fish and chips and French dip sandwich. The fish and chips were good the burger just ok and the French dip was bad, the beef tasted like it was frozen and had an off taste. For the prices they charge I was expecting fresh beef and burgers. The fries were just ok I asked for them extra crispy and they were still on the softer side. Overall food was just ok and for the price I expected fresher and better quality.

Paulina P.

Yelp
They have a front outdoor eating area that's accommodating if you have your pups with you while at the beach. The staff was attentive. There was a wait to be seated - wasn't horrible for it being on a weekend. We ordered the clam chowder, oyster shooters (a must) and a burger. This will probably be our new go-to spot when we're in town!
google avatar

Yelp
Best salmon I have ever had! I like this place a lot, service was okay but food made up for it.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
I came here for dinner with some friends and I ordered the fried oysters which came with garlic bread and your choice of side, I picked a baked potato. There were a decent amount of fried oysters with cocktail sauce and what seemed like homemade tartar sauce. The baked potato was good and so was the garlic bread. We came at a time when it wasn't too busy, so we got a seat quickly. For my friend who ordered the salmon, the waitress warned that a lot of people complain about how the salmon is cooked. She asked if we wanted it rare, medium rare, medium, or well done. This was news to me, I haven't had this as an option for how salmon is cooked. Anyway, for a medium salmon it looked really rare. We had to ask a couple times to get the salmon cooked fully all the way. The server was very nice about it, and in the end we were able to enjoy our meal.

Yelp
Went there for dinner yesterday and had a great time again. This is the 4th time we have visited Driftwood. Their entrees are pretty good but the only reason I am not giving it a 5 star is the lack of choices. But what they offer, they prepare very well. Also for the price you pay, they do not offer bread while you wait like most places do. So pretty good.
google avatar

Dominic R.

Yelp
Worst service. Tables in walk ways. Chowder was cold in the bread bowl. Don't get the soup of the day which was steak and mushroom. It congealed every 3 mins without constant movement of my spoon. The salad was rotten and wilted. Over priced for the least amount of dignity when ordering. My soup didn't even have stake it was pulled pork. If you are looking for bland food eat here for $30 per plate and expect to not have your server come around unless you flag them down. Absolutely lack luster. Plus the oyster shots are jarred oysters not fresh. This is one step away from food posing and I did report to the health department.

Danielle M.

Yelp
The food was amazing, I'm happy with the prawn bowl, the calamari and the filet mignon ! The music that was played was a couple songs that I really enjoyed by beabadoobee and even laufey!! The best part was our server, her name is Kelly, and she was the best service I've had in years! Excellent communication, not only responded to my questions but even provident such detailed answers that I needed! She was very eye smiley and super friendly ! Thx Kelly !!

Saki B.

Yelp
Our food was fabulous and the only thing better was our server, Brent. Friendly and attentive. Highly recommend this restaurant!
