Seafood-Centric Drift on 7th Has Closed | Eater DC

"A Shaw seafood spot called Drift on 7th has closed just shy of its second anniversary; management of the low-key eatery—which replaced upscale predecessor Fishnet—alerted supporters on social media January 29, saying, "It’s been a great run, but the time has come for our little restaurant to Drift off into the sunset. To all of our many friends we say THANKS!" No word yet on what founder Ferhat Yalcin plans to do next." - Warren Rojas

Google
Driftwoods nails it—great food, excellent beer, and a welcoming small-town vibe. The patio is perfect for catching a game with a huge multi screen tv I would love to have at home. Their menu mixes pub favorites with fresh, elevated options. I also recommend for kids who can sit outside and you don’t feel they are too loud. A newer spot that’s definitely worth supporting—go give this local gem a try!

Google
I genuinely enjoyed my first time visiting here. It’s placed next to North Mountain which makes it a great spot to go to for beer after a good hike, which is what I did. I liked how welcoming the staff was and how and the atmosphere also gave off the same feeling. The whole place is clean, comfortable and many huge flat screens which makes it very easy to sit at any angle and you will not miss a game. The food is really what makes this place shine, I wanted some protein and first ordered the “Steak Bites” which is steak cut into cubes, cooked (for me) medium. The dish came out sizzling, meat cooked perfect, and the butter they had made the plate so good. Finally, I was feeling a bit more hungry and asked for some chicken nachos. I kid you not, that dish was FIRE! If you like nachos, you gotta get some from there. The chicken was also diced but cooked almost like pollo asado. It was completely satisfying. I am adding a picture of it so you guys see how cool those nachos were. If it’s your first time alone or with people. Come give check this place out, it’s so worth it.

Google
Lots of tvs, smoking on patio, all day happy hour on thirsday.a lovely gentleman I met at the kava bar next door bought me 4 chicken tacos no tortilla. I couldn't afford a drink even though it was only 3 bucks. I'll be back the wings look good. Calista the bartender was excellent but her Guinness pour needs work. They accommodated my disability. Rhylie was super nice to me and made me feel safe. Now I am fed and ready for the next adventure.

Google
Driftwood Sports grill bar is a great place for watching a game or boxing match outside of your home. The price is right and the Atmosphere and customer service is perfect. The new owner came out and spoke with us to make sure everything was going well ☺️. Please try this place it is a vibe !

Google
Absolutely unreal. The homemade ranch alone is worth coming back for… you can tell it’s made in-house and not some bottled nonsense. Food is dialed in, service is always delightful, and the patio is straight-up a date night paradise. Chill, cozy, great vibe once the sun goes down. This place gets it right.

samir M.

Google
The food was good and the service was exceptional! I asked for the wings to be grilled with the sauce on the side and they delivered. The wings were great. Looking forward to checkout their mixed drinks in the future. Glad there is another great spot in the neighborhood.

Google
Stopped in on way home from errands for quick bite and drink before heading home. Not into sports and they were a little busy with the Sunday football crowd yet service was still quick and great. Sat on patio. Huge split screen. Relaxed, casual friendly fun vibes. Owner came to say hi and check on things. Dakota was my server/bartender and he was great! Attentive and great customer service. Recommended a few things and he was on point. Mac and cheese yummy and so is their chunky homemade guacamole. Since I live down the street, I will be back for their happy hour (doesn't end till 7!) and they daily specials too check out. Glad we got new spot in the Slope hood.

Google
This will be our new game day spot! Service was great, food was great and just can’t wait till we can get a nice cold beer. We had Camilla as our server and she was super sweet! Wings were so good and I’m pretty sure they make the ranch in house which was a plus! The shrimp cocktail was delish with a more Asian zing to it.

Yelp
We went to Driftwoods for the first time for dinner last night and we were very happy we did. The service was wonderful, the food delicious and we loved the atmosphere. We sat outside on the patio and the weather was very pleasant. They had a musician playing guitar and singing and he was great! I loved the alternative tunes he was playing and it really added to our dining experience. My husband had the Creole dish and loved it and I had the grilled Chick Tide deluxe, they were both excellent. The fries were super too! Since we were dining in October they had a large pretzel appetizer on the menu with beer cheese and German mustard and it was so good! We will definitely come back to Driftwoods!

Yelp
I really wanted to love this spot since it was so cozy and cute near the fire, but major let down when there was no football on the big screen on football Sunday?! Just jumbo screen/ audio of cartoons we must've been pestering our poor waitress, but there was just no solid "sorry, we can't get the game on" so we just sat there too long to the point where it would be inconvenient to leave after already ordering food lol. Took a while to get our food and drinks, especially refill on the chips. Didn't seem to busy, but was a smaller staff so maybe that was the cause. The queso and Korean street corn were tasty with the chips. Good fish and chips and a standard caesar salad. The cocktails with lime were sooooo tart and sour would maybe just stick to the draft beers. Anyways, interesting experience to say the least, meh.

Yelp
I stopped with a friend for a quick dinner and drink. I had the buffalo wings which were great. My friend had the pulled pork sandwich with fries. It was also good. Service was prompt and the server made sure we were taken care of by checking back just the right number of times. We ate on the patio which was a bit rustic, but included a number of screens for watching sports

Susan T.

Yelp
good food, nice ambiance, quick and friendly service. Would return on a future trip there!

Yelp
So happy to see this beautiful restaurant space come back to life!! Sunnyslope needs a place like this. We stopped in today. Soft opening going on now. Liquor license not up and running yet. All good... we wanted lunch. Happy to see Coke products available. Our server Raymond recommended the Pork shoulder loaded Fries to start. Perfect. And we split the Shrimp Po Boy. Everything came out hot and fresh. Delicious. Huge portions. We were pressed for time so didn't stay long. Look forward to returning to try many things. Please give this place your business! It's so nice inside and out! Will be a great place to gather your friends and family!

Yelp
Amazing food tastes great and great entire vibe. My only reason for 4 stars is the amount of fries they give you is super meager for the amount the food costs

Yelp
Stopped in for brunch on Sunday, ate in Sports Bar. Screens were amazing and avocado toast pretty special too!

Yelp
I came here for brunch, Service was great the wife had the steak and eggs skillet and I have the chicken and waffles. It was all good.

Yelp
We have been twice now and both times have been great. The service is excellent and the vibe is comfortable. They have a general dining room, a beautiful bar, and and outdoor area which will be great when summer is over. On our first visit the shrimp toast was the star of the show. The Thai ribs are also delicious and not that spicy of you are worried about too much heat. The huli Huli chicken sandwich is yummy, the chicken katsu bowl is also a solid choice. You can't go wrong with a burger and fries either. Plenty of parking and no need for a reservation which makes it a great choice when you are hungry and don't want to wait an hour for a table.

Yelp
We walked in and spent about 5 minutes waiting at the door for a host. When we were about to leave and were walking out when we finally seated. We sat down at the bar and met the bartender but wish we didn't. We heard about how he was the best mixologist in Arizona but we quickly reminded him how many great cocktail bars he hasn't been to. My margarita was great and my wife's drink was good, but was bitter in the atmosphere of the bartender's arrogance . The ceviche was bland and wasn't worth ordering. We will only go back because we want to give it another shot and order different food but if we have the same experience it will be the last time.

Yelp
Great food. Good happy hr better service. Bands on the weekend. Supper Clean. Only issues no black ice tea

Yelp
This is a local neighborhood Sports bar. We came for the first time during Friday night happy hour with live music. Service was fantastic! Different foods came with a variety of opinions from my family, I'll include in pics.

Jennifer M.

Yelp
The wings were great. They obviously make their dressing, and I liked the cucumber sticks with them. The Cubano and Patty Melt were amazing. We will literally go back just for those. Awesome TVs, friendly staff, and cute little patio with live music while we were there. A random choice for us because we just don't hang out in that area, but we will absolutely go back for that food. Exceeded expectations for sure! It wasn't busy for a Saturday night during college football, so I hope more people give it a try. I really want this place to do well.

Yelp
As a female belly up to your bar I felt like the female bartender overlooked me. I was never even offered a food menu, or asked if I would like to dine in. I did order two beers while I was there, but the manager bartender had to prompt her to ask me if I wanted a second beer. This is not my first time in your establishment, the previous time I was treated the same way. I used to work in the industry, so I get how it is when you cater to certain guests like regulars. She was fake nice to me as I was cashing out. I left her a bare minimum tip because that was the service I got. I will not be returning to this location. I'm very dissatisfied with the service. I've received last two times.

Yelp
We checked out the new Driftwood last Friday night with my daughter and her boyfriend. I loved how they had a bar area, a dining area and an outside patio area. We won't be visiting that till probably September. lol. Our server was friendly and very informative about all the food. We tried their wings, which I absolutely loved with their homemade ranch. My Husband had the ceviche and loved it. I'm not into the fish but their chips for a really good. Hubby got the steak. My daughter got the pulled pork. Her boyfriend got the fish and chips and I got the French dip. All really good.! Fries were delicious. I had the grilled vegetables with my sandwich and they were so good. I was told they make all their sauces in house as well. They even dressed up my boring vodka soda with a cute array of fruits. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Lonely, empty place at lunch on Sunday. This place belongs further down 7th in the Melrose district as the owner and clients seem to roll that way. One beer cost $5.44, but the bartender didn't bother to give me my change on six bucks. Menu prices already raised after open for 2 months. Will fail soon.

Rich P.

Yelp
Brought out of town guest for their first time so our party of 4 had a great time. Food and drinks for happy hour were nicely done & good portions. Aries our server was very helpful with great attitude, nice atmosphere plenty of room for groups and huge TV wall for sports viewing. Will be back ..

Yelp
New place the family hadn't tried yet. Very nice outdoor seating area with full bar, huge TV, and excellent misters to keep it cool. The main seating area was inside with another large room containing another bar and seating. We chose the no bar room for more quiet but it appeared to be a mistake. Took a few minutes for the server to approach for a drink order, friendly and personable, I was looking forward to reading the single pages, two-sided menu. She dropped the drink order and came right back for the food order but we asked for a few minutes to read the menu. BIG mistake, 17 minutes later she came back after we tried to wave someone down three time. The two servers for three rooms was not w inning strategy. Room the order from a menu full of inconsistency and confusion. Thai dishes using Korean sauces, Cajun, Japanese, Hawaiian, Mexican, American, just all over the map. I chose the tacos plate which the menu showed as full size tacos with multiple toppings. The Wife ordered a shrimp poorboy with loaded fries. My server asked if I wanted to amend my order since they were having a "special" on the tacos offering just two fillings, chips and salsa, and a beer for just $2 more. I accepted when she told me "since you already ordered a beer, when you finish it I'll bring you another for free as part of the special. The food took about 30 minutes more during that time our drinks were delivered. One of the two margaritas were wrong and had to be sent back since they put salt on the rim. When it was brought back (half way thru the meal), they had just poured the first drink into a new glass, you could tell because the salt from the rim of the first drink was in the bottom of the new glass and the lime on the tip do the drink was now below the ice of the drink. As expected. It was terrible. 15 minutes to pour a drink from one glass to another... The food was not even up to fast food standards. My tacos were smaller than street taco size with three small pieces of beef in each. The toppings were good, the beef had no flavor, the tacos shells were dry and hard, and the salsa for the chips was out of a bottle. One of my worst meals this year. My wife's poorboy had six small shrimp she said were pretty good but the bread of the sandwich was stale and the sauce she scraped off with her knife. She couldn't eat the bread so this six shrimp weee very expensive. The loaded fries has pulled pork I them and she likes them very much and why this isn't a two star raring. Two other family members at the table did not finish their meals either and one of them ordered second whiskey sour when my chips and salsa was delivered yet received it when we asked for the check. Overall; food was two stars, service was two stars, atmosphere was three stars, bathrooms were clean four stars. We will not come back.

Yelp
Gonna say 4.5 star rounded up. Had Cesar salad. Was heavy on dressing but fresh. Dry rub wings were outstanding. Drinks were ok. Like to see a bit higher end wine selection. Service was good for just opening. Clean nice place.

Yelp
We had a guy servicing us and he was very attentive at first but half way he just stopped showing up to our table! We were the only table in there at one point and I had to go up to the guy and ask if we could order some things. Then we had to wave him down for our check. It was a Saturday so could be a great night for a few drinks but we only had two in the three hours that we were there because he never came to check on us. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else because that was the worst service I've had in a long time.

Yelp
Found a new spot in Sunnyslope...excellent food and handcrafted cocktails Highly recommended the fish & chips and the patty melt with homemade coleslaw slaw

Yelp
From the moment we walked into Driftwoods, the staff set the tone for an amazing experience. The greeting at the door was immediate and welcoming--like they were genuinely glad we showed up. That kind of attentiveness right at the entrance isn't as common as it should be, and it made a big first impression. The bartender, though--absolutely phenomenal. Not just quick with a pour, but sharp, friendly, and fully engaged. You could tell they were managing a busy bar, yet still made time to check in, crack a joke, and get drinks out fast and perfectly made. It's rare to find a bartender who makes you feel like a regular on your first visit. Everyone--from servers to the support staff--seemed dialed in and motivated. There's a clear pride in the way they treat guests. You get the sense that this place runs on more than just good food and sports--it runs on good people. Driftwoods has earned a spot on my go-to list.

Yelp
The food is amazing. The owner is friendly and really looking to improve the experience. Once it cooks off, the outside patio bar and fire pit will be fun.

Yelp
So excited to have another neighborhood hangout in the area. There are 3 sections to the restaurant, the patio feels like it's your backyard chill spot and inside where you walk has a classy cafe vibe with open kitchen (although it was pretty quiet in that section with no music, could benefit from some speakers in that area). The bar area looked like a quaint sports bar with massive tvs. The service I received from Jake was amazing, they really made sure I was comfy and had everything I needed to enjoy my meal. At no point was I looking around trying to find them to request anything. With any new place, you could tell some of the staff was a little nervous and wanted to make everything perfect; a couple things were overlooked but that will iron itself out with time. Now to the food, I ended up choosing the chicken katsu sandwich which had a fried chicken breast covered in tonkatsu sauce with coleslaw and a spicy aioli. The tonkatsu sauce overpowered everything on the sandwich, not sure I would have slathered the chicken breast in such a strong sauce. I wished there was more refreshing coleslaw because of it, unfortunately it was the thinnest layer. I couldn't even taste the aioli. If I get that sandwich again, I will ask for tonkatsu on the side and put on as wanted. The sandwich came with fries which were amazing! They were double fried which are my favorite bc it makes them so crispy yet light and airy! I chose to upgrade them to the loaded fries for $6 and it was worth the $6! All in all, Driftwoods is reasonably priced and a fun atmosphere and I already told my fiancé that he needs to come with me next time! Awesome place and I am so excited to have it in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Great food, happy hour specials are solid. The place would appear to have a beautiful patio... that is never staffed. The bar on the patio is never open, looks great, but never has a bartender.
google avatar

Brian B.

Yelp
Love the looks of this place. The menu did not disappoint either. I got the Driftwood burger with everything and was very happy. Seasoned fries on the side were awesome. My wife has a few allergies and the chef was super helpful in walking her through everything. Finally the staff. So very friendly and helpful. We will be back for sure.

Yelp
Awesome place to watch some games. Food is good , worker's are super friendly. Great patio too!!

George A.

Yelp
The place looks great , atmosphere looks good for a night of drinks and games . The food however is bland to say the least. There is more flavor from hospital food than you find on their "take on western burger " bbq sauce was runny and no flavor (ketchup packet tasted more of bbq than this ) the burger while the meat was of great quality it had no taste other than water , dense buns , dense burger . Fries not even a thought of salt . It's not hate as they seem to care about the place how it looks and quality of ingredients seems good just no flavor of any sort . Update: the owner Micheal said I should go to the hospital and have my taste buds checked lol hope this place does as poorly as the last place that was in that same spot
google avatar

Angela O.

Yelp
Food was exceptional at this local eatery. Ashley our bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. Great outdoor patio and the only thing that would make this place better is if the patio was dog friendly. Highly recommend this restaurant. We are definitely going to be regulars.

Rick C.

Yelp
What a breath of fresh air! This location has been one of my favorites for the 26 years I've been in the neighborhood. The new owners have taken over and are doing it right. The ambience is on point as well as the fresh food they provide. I'm Uber impressed
google avatar

Mary S.

Yelp
Service and decor is great. This building was vacant for so long and I noticed a new place on my way to work today. Cute beach themed with more upscale modern twist. Owner is from Alaska and very nice man, stopped by my table. They have Dole whip for dessert. Waaaa? I sure hope this place does well.

Jennifer J.

Yelp
So excited to have a restaurant/sports bar down the street. The patio is so large and inviting with its own bar. The restaurant in "the middle" is perfect for those who don't want live music or tv's with sports. Or walk thru the door to the inside sports bar area! Great large TVs. Food is really delicious too!!
google avatar

Julie M.

Yelp
I happen to have some time to kill between seeing clients and pulled in here to grab something real quick at Scramble. But I saw this new bar and grill just opened so I was curious. I'm glad I did! The fish and chips were SO good. Fresh, hot, 3 nice pieces of fish. But what I appreciated the most, because I make my own tartar sauce at home, was fresh, homemade dill tartar sauce. The service was impeccable as well. And the guy at the next table seemed to be enjoying his meal as well. I can't wait to go back! Ambience 10!
google avatar

Jeromy S.

Yelp
This place is awesome. This was our 1st time here and split the Fish & Chips and the Patty Melt. I would highly recommend checking this place out. Great food that you can taste the love and handcrafted cocktails.

Yelp
Tried for the first time last night. Great food and service. Delicious ceviche and dry rub wings. Taco special (it was Tuesday) was very tasty. We will be back! Nice addition to the area.

Yelp
Cool place. The owner Michael was very friendly. I had the Cubano sandwich and liked it. I found the menu a little all over the place but they do have burgers if you're looking for more traditional bar food.

Yelp
Trying a new place during their soft opening is always a little iffy, but we were pleasantly surprised when our family checked this new spot out. There are several seating areas; the main dining room, a pretty outdoor space, and the bar. The main room is minimally decorated--a few beachy items, some rope décor, and aluminum that reminded me of a dockside eatery. The bar is a darker, cozy spot with large wall-to-wall TVs showing sporting events. Upon entering, we were immediately informed that the liquor license wasn't in effect yet, so no alcohol would be served. No problem. We were hungry. There was a large sports team (about 60) having a private party in the bar. They were loud and having fun. However, unless someone opened the door, it did not intrude into the main dining area allowing one to enjoy a quieter, family-friendly experience. The menu is varied and I think this is going to be one of those places we go to last minute when no one wants to cook. We started with the Korean barbecue short ribs--tender, juicy bites smothered in a sticky, yummy sauce. Then my daughter spotted shrimp toast on the menu. I recall this as something soggy and fishy in Asian restaurants but was stunned with what arrived. I probably should have ordered this super crispy, golden appetizer as an entrée and not shared it. I will order this on every visit. The burgers were huge and perfectly done. Fries were crisp and the coleslaw was cool and tangy. The only glitch in our service was when the manager offered us Dole Whip (Yes, Dole Whip!) only to have our enthusiasm dimmed when the machine refused to cooperate. The servers and managers were friendly. The food was really good and I can see us returning repeatedly.
google avatar

Michael O.

Yelp
Let's just say that I hope this place does well. Hate to judge a new restaurant but they hit it out of the ballpark. Beer and liquor choices are limited presently choices will receive an upgrade but they are on a limited liquor license presently so it was understandable. Kaos the bar manager was a very personable and informative member of the staff. There are two bars one inside, and one outside and the outside set up looks very inviting with the fire pit and large big screens on the walls. The main bar has a fantastic display of 6 TVs screen that are combined into one very impressive seamless video screen display. they are more TV's surrounding the entire room. Will be great for watching NFL games in the fall. Had to order the food as well and another homerun hit here as well. The Huli Huli Chicken Sandwich my girlfriend got was very good as was the Shrimp Po Boy which I ordered. We both got Cole slaw sides and the Cole slaw was very tasty as well. Out the gate this place has great potential and really hope it does well for this area of town which is much needed in the North Phoenix/ Sunnyslope area!

Michael M.

Yelp
Fast service, great food, been here three times already. Everything was great. Can't wait for it to cool down so I could use the outdoor patio.

Maci S.

Yelp
Food was delicious!! We had a burger and the Cubano both with loaded fries. Clean and good service. Will be back.

Yelp
Terrific addition to Moon Valley area, great food and atmosphere, amazing TV set up for watching sports and music on Friday night! Loved it!

Yelp
You guys are the best! Best cobb salad EVER! I love the chicken with the pesto sauce that you added as an extra onto the top! Wow! And then the mousse cake afterward... Super Yum! We will definitely be coming back. Great vibes with great music. My wife and I ended up dancing. Volume was perfect... Nice bass, but still easy to talk. Truly perfect!

Yelp
Driftwoods recently opened at Mountain View Rd and 7th St (9832 N 7th St). EXCELLENT cocktails/craft beers, food, service, venue, separate sports grill area, and multiple outdoor patios! Our group had cocktails/craft beers, Surfside Ceviche, Pulled Pork sandwich, Chicken Katsu sandwich, Patty Melt sandwich, Fish & Chips, Mix and Match Tacos, and the Tai Rib Platter. Save room for the trio dessert of mini chocolate cake, limoncello cake, and pistachio cake (so yummy!). Everything was not just good, but delicious. Flavors of drinks and food were right on, prepared perfectly, good size portions, and beautifully presented. The patios had misters, a large TV, and were beautiful spaces (cigar/whiskey speak easy coming soon to the back patio (3rd patio at this venue). The sports grill area has HUGE TVs, many tables, a large bar counter, an awesome space for watching sports or just hanging out, and of course, skilled bartenders. We really loved this gastropub and sports grill. An excellent addition to the Sunnyslope area. We will be back, and often! THANK YOU!!

C J.

Yelp
So happy to see a new restaurant in this great space. We ate on the patio. I had the ceviche- very flavorful and a generous portion. My husband had a chicken sandwich, seasoned well and on a delicious bun (Noble bread?). Service was awesome. Friendly place. Be sure to give this place a try!

Lisa T.

Yelp
Let me say I'm happy they opened up in our plaza!!! The service since day 1 has been outstanding! Raymond always has a smile and makes you feel welcomed. He always remembers my order. Awesome employee!!! Mikey is very helpful and friendly. The owner as well always acknowledges the customers. Holly the main cook always greets me from the kitchen. She also cooks with love. Andres always friendly as well. Overall this place ROCKS.

Terry J.

Yelp
Totally awesome place. They have Fine dine area basic and a patio. Gigantic sports screens. We were amazed and the food was good had some drinks. $67 A great deal Recommend

Kurt A.

Yelp
Service is outrageously slow and they are not organized at all... took nearly 10 minutes to get anyone to come to the table... think the table behind us got our chips and guac. Patio is pretty cool with an awesome TV! Food was just so-so! Can't see us coming back!

Yelp
Everything was amazing. Food was delicious, service was fantastic. Great to have something great in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Tasty and fun always. Great bar staff!!! More people should be visiting this establishment because they would really enjoy it!!!
