"For a downtown spot offering something other than seafood, try Drina Daisy, which serves cuisine from the Bosnian heartland in a homey space filled with white tablecloths and tchotkes. Alongside Turkish coffee served in elaborately carved cezveler, diners can find platters of cold-smoked beef sausage, red pepper spreads with crusty bread, stuffed cabbage, and a selection of pitas. Unlike the fluffy flatbread or pockets commonly associated with pitas, Bosnian pita are pies made with golden, flaky phyllo, baked to order with stuffed ingredients like beef, spinach, or cheese." - Alex Frane, Jennifer Burns Bright

We had a lovely intimate dinner and met the chef! The lamb was delicious as were the cabbage rolls and serviced with fruit and salad. Easy access in the quaint Astoria downtown core.

Delightful, delicious, and classicly decorated. The lamb is not to be missed. Dishes are generous and perfectly seasoned. Every one comes with fruit and greens. On top of great food, the atmosphere is just lovely. The whole place is festooned with greenery and every table always has blooming orchids. We usually visit in the depths of winter when the tourists aren't so brave, but we went early on a Friday evening in July and it was just as perfect. All I can say on top of the wonderful food and lovely decor is that the owners have been there for years and I worry that we may not have too many more years of their wonderful food before they decide it's time to retire. Be sure to visit soon!

We had the place to ourselves for an early Friday dinner and were delighted with the charm and friendly service. We both had pita, I tried the vegetarian spinach one and my sister had the meat one. The server brought us a delicious spread of appetizers while we waited and we enjoyed the fruit water. The pita was very worth the wait! Large portions and so good. They had several vegetarian dishes. We split a piece of baklava to finish and it was also very good. Highly recommend!

This restaurant is a hidden treasure of the city of Astoria. We're visiting from Central California and it was a great experience to have dinner here. We split the Sopska salad, had the Sarma Sa Povrem and the Bosanski Gulas and Kafa after dinner. It was a wonderful meal and the setting was great. Our dinner here definitely will stand out as a high point of our vacation.

Google
This was definitely one of the best meals I have ever had. The reviews for this restaurant are well deserved. I had the beef cabbage roll and Piraat ale. It was a perfectly balanced dish. It was salty, savoury, and finished sweet with fresh fruit. The juice from the cabbage rolls alone was divine. The waiter/owner told me that they only have one chef because she crafts these dishes in such a way that it cannot be taught. In this day and age, that is rare in a restaurant environment. They could have cut corners and hired multiple chefs and lowered quality, but no. They stuck to their guns and it shows. I will definitely be coming back for more.

2/21/21 - My husband and I both ordered the sarma (stuffed cabbage w/rice & chopped beef), which came with smoked meat w/pickled cabbage & ajvar (roasted red pepper sauce) and bread. This was different from the heavy tomato-based meatloaf-like filling we make and are used to, but it did not disappoint at all! Topped with very tender beef chunks, peppers, onion & sour cream! It was absolutely delicious!!! Loved the ambiance, the hostess/server was very informative and the chef we’re told starting cooking with her grandmother when she was 5. Exactly the kind of dining experience one would hope for!

Oh my gosh! The Cabbage rolls are to die for! They are retiring soon and closing so get in there to try the food quickly! Sweet couple who deserve to retire. 🥰

Google
Wow! I ordered a steak pita and got this scrumptious pita pastry shaped in a horseshoe and enough for two. My husband joined in and couldn't get over it. My husband ordered the lamb shanks which were the best tasting full of flavor lamb shanks ever! It's also quiet with enough ambiance to enjoy an intimate dinner but also have a window view. I would definitely return and recommend to all!

Yelp
A treat for all of your senses! Amazing food and service. A must-visit restaurant! A huge part of Astoria and its history. Fordinka and Ken are the best!

Yelp
They say the world has seven wonders. The eighth is how this place has 4.5 stars. Frankly, I was going to give 4 stars, but as dinner progressed, I had to bring it down to 2. Ordered the cockta for my drink. Tbh it tasted like if a glass of coke was diluted with a really flat lime. That's the best way I can think to describe it. Still pretty good tho. Waiter brought bread for appetizer. The bread itself didn't taste like much, but the bell pepper purée(?) that accompanied it made it pretty good. Here's where things started to go downhill for me. I ordered the sarma, waited 35+ mins for food, then when it came out, the cook(?) had no idea who ordered what, so she gave random dishes to random people, and likely initially gave the wrong food to people with dietary restrictions. Once we figured out the dishes, I think(?) I got my sarma, but none of us were completely sure. Anyway, I started eating, and the beef was dry and lukewarm. The menu-description also said there'd be risotto. Whatever I got - it was okay, but it definitely wasn't risotto. Instead, it was a huge block of rice bounded by... meat, I guess? I'm honestly not even sure what the binder was. To top it all off, the baklava was unbelievably greasy, and didn't even taste like much. The aforementioned cook, I actually dk who she was - cook, waitress, owner, etc. Anyway, she was really handsy with me, which isn't a problem in and of itself; I mean, maybe that's just her personality. But it was unnecessarily excessive, dang near giving me bear-hugs every 10 minutes asking how I'm doing and such. Our main waiter spilled water a few times and was hard-of-hearing, so we often had to yell our requests. He was a nice guy though. Also kinda chilly in the restaurant.

Yelp
**vegetarian review** I came here on thanksgiving day as once of the only places still open. Being unfamiliar with Bosnian food I didn't know if it's vegetarian friendly or if I will like it. We ordered the cheese pie and the cabbage wraps and my oh my they were delicious!! The cheese pie had this salty cheese flavour running through the pastry and the cabbage wrap was oh so flavourful. I didn't really expect that! The service was slow but maybe because it was holiday and only the old couple that owns the place we're running it. For the delicious hot meal I highly recommend the place

Louie F.

Yelp
I have never had Bosnian food though I have had variations of the items on their menu. Regardless, I had to try it and I am so glad I did. The tomato salad was unique. It wasn't quite an Italian caprese though it has basil, tomatoes and fresh mozzarella. It had a slightly sweet/tart dressing along with pickled vegetables and a red pepper mash/chutney that was delicious on everything! I could put that on cardboard and cardboard would taste good. The cabbage roll was the best I have ever had - hands down. Simple, no one thing overpowered the other and just made it delicious. The beef stew had perfectly cooked beef but it was too salty for me. Service was absolutely amazing. All in all it felt like I was dining with family.

Cristina J.

Yelp
My hubby loves the young lamb so much and this is the best lamb he tried ever in the USA! The beef stew is also so delicious and it's very soft and tasty! Good restaurant and worth try!

Yelp
My partner is Celiac and so she needs to eat Gluten Free. That being said, finding good, safe restaurants when we're out of the area can be a challenge. Any cross-contamination or someone just not 'believing' that she has an allergy can cause days of misery and ruin our trip. So when our favourite Astoria restaurant wasn't available, we went looking. Several reviews led us to Drina Daisy, and one of the best things was that the menu explicitly stated that all entrees are gluten free if you don't eat the pita. The restaurant itself is in a stretch of what looks like renovated old buildings. There was plenty of street parking and we didn't have far to walk. One of the (I learned through reviews) co-owners was sitting in the front, an older gentleman who greeted us immediately and asked us if we'd be joining them for dinner. This casual turn of phrase made you feel like you walked into a family dining room. Other reviews have talked about how crowded the place usually is, but maybe because it was Thanksgiving weekend, we had the place to ourselves for most of the night. We were served promptly, explained our need to keep gluten items away from the table, and he was cheerful and kind about it. My partner ordered the sarma and I chose the gulas', with a lovely bottle of Croatian wine, Peljesac "Plavac mali" to go with it. We were told that Plavac Mali means small blue, and refers to the grape. It was wonderful; crisp and fruity and paired perfectly with our food. And the food! We got that pretty quickly, so other comments regarding wait time didn't apply to us. My partner's was a rice and chopped beef mixture wrapped in cabbage leaves. My gulas' was a large spoon-bowl completely filled with braised beef and a light, but incredibly flavourful broth. We had a side salad of dressed greens and pickled cabbage, cucumbers, the like. Paired with the beef, it went wonderfully. We were also served a fruit salad, with some watermelon, strawberry, apple, grape, and orange. It looked beautiful and provided a nice relief from the umami of the main dish. The beef I had was amazing, topped with some onions and pickled peppers. I tried a little bit of everything together and it went down beautifully. I shared with my partner and she was in heaven with every bite. I got down to the bottom of the bowl and kept finding more pieces of beef; it was a huge amount. I commented at the time that Drina Daisy didn't use fillers to round out the dish, like huge chunks of potato or something else. The beef itself was braised in the owner's recipe, but what I received was nothing but meat. It was perfect. I tried my partner's sarma and it was excellent. The rice was rice used for risotto, not stirred or stewed as long, so it didn't make its own gravy, but you could taste the richness and fullness of it, paired with the chopped beef. The herbs and spices used in both dishes were wonderful; you could tell you were eating food from another country, but it wasn't so "out there" that a child or a person with a limited palette would turn their nose up at it. My understanding is that this is a family restaurant, with the husband running the front of house and the wife, both co-owners, cooking in back of house with a few people to assist. I imagine this could lead to why some people see long wait times; good food cooked to order and prepared by one chef can take time. We had an amazing experience and have deemed this high on our list of places to return to when in the area. We know it's safe, we know it's good, and we felt very welcome and taken care of.

Waldo K.

Yelp
The food was as described, and had some unique flavors that I was interested to try. The portions were generous. The sauerkraut and high proportion of rice were not really to my taste, but it did seem to me that it was probably authentic. The baklava was very sweet and syrupy. I was looking for vegetarian options, it may be that their meat-based foods are tastier. I did take-away so I didn't spend much time inside, but it looked cozy and the service was friendly.

Yelp
Great food & service! Best meat, cheese, & pickles board we've ever had! We often buy an extra order to take home. Very casual owner-receptionist-server is good & pleasant. His wife yells at him from the kitchen, which he appears to endure patiently. The yelling is the only knockdown for a star .... Atmosphere is kitchy.

Yelp
In an area chock full of fantastic eateries, Drina Daisy stands out as one of the most unique and flavorful places we love to go. So far, everything we've tried there has been wonderful... and, much like genuine home cooking, it can vary from visit to visit depending on European sourced ingredients that change up the subtle flavor combinations. Our go-to is the Sarma which is always great on a menu filled with regional variety straight from the home country recipes. Though the wait sometimes requires a bit of patience this really is a mom and pop business. Like the scars in fine leather it's proof of originality. It's nice to step outside the fast-food mentality taking time to actually savor the tastes starting with the bread, avjar, sausage and pickled vegetable variety appetizers! Last night we celebrated my birthday there. It was a treat. Their visiting son let me try some of his imported homemade plum liquor from Bosnia. It was truly stellar though, sorry, not a menu item. The fact that we were made to feel part of the family made it all the more special. Fordinka and Ken really make it like a visit to a Sarajevo home. Part of the joy of going is being treated like family by the folks there with a wry sense of humor and always gracious. Though we were sorry there was no Cockta on hand... not surprising considering the cost and difficulty of getting items from over the pond... there was still a good variety of eastern European beers to enjoy. The dishes were lovingly hand crafted and steaming hot when served. From Burek to Sirnica, Bosanski Gulas to rotisserie roasted lamb the menu items we've tried are authentic, homestyle comfort food taste revelations of a cuisine we'd never had before living here. Even though I chef for the family, even if I knew Bosnian cooking to a tee, I'd choose to visit Drina Daisy because it really is a friendly adventure each time. We'll certainly be back again and again! Highly recommended.

Yelp
Live orchids at every table. Must be a master gardener to have so many healthy and blooming orchids. We decided to order the lamb for roasted lamb for two. The menu didn't specify what sides came with the lamb. The waiter assured us that we'd get plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits that were available this time of year. He was true to his word. Started with an appetizer of fresh bread, sauces, various snack vegetables and small slices of beef prosciutto and sausage. When the lamb arrived, we were delighted with 6 loin chops along with a melody of fruit and salad. What I gathered was that the lady chef is the boss and makes up the plate based on how she wants and what is fresh.

Yelp
This restaurant is great! Adorable and knowledgeable owners, delicious food and the best coffee and baklava! We had the Ajvar, sopska, sarma, and bosanski gulas- everything was perfect and I wish I could eat this meal over and over again.

Yelp
Cabbage rolls and beef pita! Delicious! Great ambiance! The owner is so sweet, lovely and kind! The service was great! She surprised us with extra cabbage rolls and deserts! I would come back and bring my friends!!

Yelp
I have been coming here for many years, let's say I've been here to eat 20 times. 18 times out of 20 it's been fabulous, which is why I kept coming back. the last 2 times have really been off. the first of those last 2 times the food was good, but the interaction with the chef and the folks dining got me a little concerned. I didnt really know what was going on- I thought maybe someone offended the chef? but then she seemed offended at my friend and I, for not ordering 2 dishes (yet we did) and things got sorted out. when the diners were left alone in the room we started talking about what was going on. Nobody understood. miscommunication maybe, cultural differences? who knows. it was not normal for me, so I didnt think it was a big deal. 6 months later we went back and this time was a big deal. we were the only 2 there to eat. the chef kept coming out to the table to talk and started prying into our personal details a little bit much, and while repeatedly talking loudly and asking the same questions, much spittle was flying over the table, eventually onto our food, which this time was not good. it was COLD and sort of thrown together, compared to other times I've been there. Then the chef came out and gave us a box of chocolates, then she insisted on giving us booze (we don't drink, therefore didnt order any) and then she was touching me a lot and wanted me to look at a framed document on the wall in the other room. The waiter and the chef were yelling at each other- this was getting a bit much, obviously. She showed us the back part of the kitchen, which was sort of depressing and insisted we come back a few months later for her retirement party. we did not go. just today we looked to see if they were still open and they are, I guess. to be honest, I am amazed, because if she is still working way past when she said she was quitting, and is still serving cold food and still touching people and getting way too up close and personal as she did with us... I have no idea how they are still in business. do not get me wrong- I love this place, or rather, loved this place for many, many years and told many people to go there, but now I am afraid to go back, so I am not telling anyone to try it. if you do decide to, and you catch them on a good day, the food will be amazing and you'll be lucky to have tasted such Bosnian home-style cooking. If you go and you suddenly realize you are watching a dinner theatre style performance, I hope you maintain a sense of humor and leave when you are ready. I wish these folks well- and I thank them for their good service provided over the years and support them if it's time to throw in the towel, so to speak.

Yelp
Stopped here on a visit to Astoria from Portland today! This was my first time trying Bosnian food and I'm happy I stopped here. Met Daisy herself and was served by her husband. Tried the lamb special (#13) on the menu and it was delicious. Cooked perfectly and served alongside a salad and seasonal fruits. Daisy made a point to come and check on everyone and even show us some of her cognac collection (picture provided) alongside giving us a free baklava! Super kind people and the food shows how much love they have to give. Definitely coming back next time we're in town.

Craig S.

Yelp
The high ratings (it's ranked #1 on a different website) and the curiosity about what Bosnian food would be made us want to try this place. Though we wanted to order appetizers first, and wait before ordering entrees, the server (also the owner?) insisted we order everything at once. We said that would be okay, as long as it wasn't brought out all at once. It was never brought out. None of it. We sat at our table for one hour and forty minutes, and in that entire time saw food brought to only one other table in the entire restaurant. When we came in, at least two tables were full of food, and it was colorful and looked good, but heaven knows when they got there or ordered such that they were actually served. It was a Saturday, and the place was nearly full, and there appeared to be only two or three people working, so that may have contributed to the complete absence of food being served --- but if they can't handle more than one table at a time, they shouldn't seat more than one table at a time. Why fill the restaurant with people they're going to disappoint? The popularity of this place will remain a mystery to me.

Joe B.

Yelp
This place really lived up to the other great reviews. We got lucky and were able to get 5 adults and 3 kids in at the last minute on a Saturday night. We all ordered and they brought everything out family style. I am not sure if that is always the case or not. I do remember being asked if that was ok to do that. All the food was excellent except the cabbage rolls were a bit to salty. Not sure if that is the norm or just off night for the rolls. Since everything else was seasons perfectly i am suspecting that is not the norm. This place is run by a charming older couple who pretty much do everything, she cooks and he waits the tables and because of this i agree with other reviewing that you need to be patient. this is far from fast food. On our visit one dish was forgotten which is understandable with such a large party. This did not ruin anything for us but maybe if you are a larger party with a lot of stuff you might want to keep an eye out. The one guy appears to be the only server. The kind co-owner/cook brought out some candy for the kids and told them not to open till after dinner (like any mother/grandmother would). Which also reminds me that there really is no kids menu or kid friendly food so if you have a choice i would avoid this place if you need to dine with small children.

B G.

Yelp
Another great meal served and cooked by equally great people. Had the cucumber/tomato salad, lamb, cabbage rolls and spinach pitas. Bread was fresh as always. Each of the main meals also comes w a salad w Greek dressing and fresh fruit. We got to try the Red pepper appetizer thanks to the generosity of the cook and loved it so I think next time we will have that instead of the salad (otherwise it is too much food for my family). Love coming here every time we come to Astoria.

April K.

Yelp
For years we were unable to time our visit to Astoria to enjoy a meal at Drina Daisy. This trip, thankfully, it worked out perfectly. Labeling this as a "Mediterranean" restaurant is almost sacrilegious. A cousin, yes, but a distant cousin. Don't go there expecting familiar Greek or Turkish menu items. But if you've enjoyed Bosnian meals or enjoy adventurous eating, you'll be delighted with the choices. My husband and I are both vegetarians, so I can't comment on the meat. But the ajvar was as comforting as I've ever had, and the crisp outer crust on our pitas crackled with anticipation of the savory filling within. The paradajz (tomato) salad was just that, with enough fresh basil to match the tomatoes bite for bite. The presentation on the platter was lovely, and I wish I had snapped a few photos of that and the orchids blooming on every table. My husband enjoyed a Ukrainian beer, and I was chuffed to have an icy-cold Cockta to drink--although in the Balkans it's seldom served so well chilled. When my husband's family traveled through Jugoslavia in 1968 he asked for a Coke and wasn't too thrilled with the Cockta substitution. If you think of it as a bit of Jugoslavia that's still going strong in the 21st century, you'll probably enjoy it! My only regret was not having room for baklava and coffee afterwards--despite letting my husband eat a third of my pita, I just didn't have space for dessert. Thank you, Drina Daisy, for a wonderful meal!

Matthew V.

Yelp
The lamb for two was extremely tender and seasoned with care. We were treated to the baklava by the chef directly, who was so friendly and made the visit a delight. The atmosphere was unique and fit well to the menu and I really appreciated their selection of imported beers from czechoslovakia.

Pam B.

Yelp
Don't miss this amazing place. Casual, low key looks from the outside, but worth spending the evening!

Sase D.

Yelp
We had planned to just go to pizza place that ended up being closed (and I'm so glad it was) because we spotted this place when we were driving by and were so intrigued because we had never eaten Bosnian food before. It was amazing! I loved the history here and that it was a family run business. They were funny and the food was great! Seriously, everything that each of us tried was so impressive and so good. I wish I was staying in the area longer so that I could go back again!

Jeff P.

Yelp
What a spectacular little gem in old town Astoria. We were there on a weekday night in the off-season. Neither my sweetheart nor I had ever had Bosnian food. Eating here was a delightful revelation to our palates. I had a stuffed cabbage dish and she had the Bosnian equivalent of spanakopita. We, of course, tried each other's dishes and agreed that everything was great. The host was attentive and entertaining. It's not an inexpensive place for dinner but the portions are huge; we each had leftovers.

Kristi P.

Yelp
A great find on the coast if you aren't looking for seafood! 1/2 smoked beef/smoked sausage app: We couldn't decide, so they let us split it! Great start to the meal. I preferred the beef since it had a more pronounced smoked flavor. It's served with various cheese, pickled peppers, pepper relish, and fresh-baked bread! Kafa: a unique coffee experience served Sarajevo style. It's concentrated, but sweet with the addition of the sugar cubes. Espresso: a surprisingly large cup for being so strong Stuffed beef cabbage roll: 1 large roll stuffed with ground beef and rice. Served with pieces of tender beef outside of roll Pita: made-to-order with delicate phyllo dough If feels like eating at grandma's house with the plentiful plants and house furnishings. Service is very friendly. I like how the entrées come with vegetables and fruit--a one plate meal.

Michael P.

Yelp
Driving by, my partner pointed out this quaint little restaurant, tucked away in the middle of downtown Astoria. But it is worth searching it out. We have dogs, so we took it to go. Regardless, when I went in to pick up the food, I was struck with how they had decorated and made the place look quite beautiful. The proprietors were very kind and even threw in a small sample of their smoked beef. I ordered the Sarma, and my partner had the Burek. Both were delightfully flavorful dishes of substantial portions. I would highly recommend them!

Konki T.

Yelp
It really makes me sad to write a bad review for this place because I wanted to like it given that I am very familiar w Bosnian food. I honestly don't understand how this place has 4.5 stars. The decor is ok and I liked the orchid flowers but the food was far from great. The first warning was they said they don't serve cevapi because Bosnian restaurants don't serve cevapi but you get them in Bosnia as fast food. what??? made no sense. it's a traditional Bosnian dish that if you advertise yourself as a Bosnian restaurant you should have on the menu. We ordered tomato salad and sarma instead. The tomato salad was not bad but they used mozzarella so it was caprese and traditional salad uses feta cheese. The ajvar spread added to the side was the best thing about it but they don't even make it in-house. The accompanying bread was super stale and it foreshadowed more bad things to come. Sarma was absolutely horrendous. It is traditionally made with pickled cabbage leaves and beef and rice with spices and then slowly cooked w smoked meat for hours and hours. This sarma tasted like it was made in the microwave. The cabbage seemed not pickled and just boiled and the ground meat reminded me of beyond meat mixed w instant rice w no soices. we could not even finish how bad it was. if you never tried real sarma maybe you would have liked it but to me, this thing was a disgrace and super expensive to boot. if you ever go to Portland and want to try really amazing Balkan food check out Two Brothers. Best authentic food ever and they have cevapi and as close as authentic you can get. I will have to visit before leaving the area to forget about this experience.

Robert S.

Yelp
During a recent stay in Astoria I had the pleasure of dining at Drina Daisy one evening and am pleased to have done so. Apparently they will be shutting down in the near future after 20 years in operation! So check it out while you have the chance. I've enjoyed Serbian, Bosnian and Montenegran cuisine while in the Balkans. So, I was surprised to see a Bosnian restaurant in Astoria, OR! Do yourself a favor and try the salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese curds and their special dressing. I added the beef stew (forget the original name) which was hardy enough to make for two full meals. The chef added some of their crushed pepper purée and fresh bread to my entree and I lapped up every morsel. Hate to see places like this close down, especially after surviving COVID, so do yourself a favor and stop in while they're in business for a taste of the old country

John K.

Yelp
We've visited Drina Daisy twice, and it has become a place that we find ourselves having to visit every time we come to Astoria. This is comfort food that excels in taste and variety. The menu and the server do a great job of explaining the names of dishes that, even if they sound familiar, may not be what you initially think they are. The biggest example is their 'pita', which turns out to be a delightfully thin, crisp phyllo dough wrapped around one of 3 filling options. It is not the pocket bread that comes to mind for me when hearing the word pita, and it is not really what I think of when hearing the word 'pie', which is the translation listed in the menu. It is, however, spectacular - so don't let semantics get in the way of a truly memorable experience. Seriously, Drina Daisy is one of my favorite restaurants, anywhere.

Yelp
Our lunch was so amazing, I ate until I thought I was going to throw up. ;o) Seriously, it was outrageously delicious, & so much care was given to the presentation of every dish that came out of the kitchen. A lady from another table came over to ask about our cucumber & tomato salad. Later, another lady walked over to the first lady to ask about her dish. Every time a table got their food, everyone else wanted to check it out! I wish we'd had room in our tummies to try the unique coffee experience. Mom-in-law & I shared the salad, dense sour dough was served, too. She had the vegetarian cabbage roll, & I had beef goulash (stew). To die for. All of it. The cook/chef/owner?/boss lady appeared a few times. She seems gruff & demanding, but damn, the woman can cook! We're not sure why, but she fancied up our salad with extra cheese, slices of cured beef, & a pickled & stuffed sweet pepper which we noticed she didn't do for the couple next to us who also split the same salad. Do NOT judge this place from the outside. We had planned to come here, looked at it from the outside, & almost didn't go in. I can't get over how happy I am that we tried it! When you go, pay attention to the unique bottles of pomegranate wine & brandy in the window & on the hutch inside. Oh & all of the gorgeous plants!

Yelp
We were staying overnight in Astoria and wanted an evening meal that wasn't seafood or fried. This place filled the bill perfectly. They describe their food as Bosnian comfort food. While I can't speak to it's authenticity, I can tell you that the term comfort food fits it well. Our waiter (the only one, actually) greeted us affably and seated us instantly. He moved among the diners efficiently without selling rushed, but managing to spend time enough to explain and Converse with all. We ordered a single serving of the rotisserie roasted lamb and a beef stuffed "pita." Pita here means pie and in this instance is a phyllo-wrapped, horseshoe-shaped, serving of beef, onions, and spices. It is topped with a nice glob of sour cream. This is a delicious, comforting bite. Their rotisserie lamb was very tender and redolent of a wonderful spice mix, especially on the slightly crunchy outer surfaces. As they warm you, this is not lamb like you get in American restaurants, it is chunks or slabs of the roasted lamb and may include bones and other bits you might not ordinarily see. Despite any squeamishness or unfamiliarity you feel, dig right in and be richly rewarded with tender and delicious meat. The meals were served with a nice side salad and a generous helping of fresh fruit. If your in Astoria this place makes a good place for a meal that is other than ordinary.

Yelp
Wow wow wow WOW!! I had what may have been the BEST MEAL OF MY LIFE AS WELL AS SERVICE, by the Owners of Drina Daisey. I was so lucky I found them during my road trip from SF to Lopez Island, Wa. I stayed in the area for 4 extra hours to experience this Gem after I called at lunch time only to be told the Lamb was cooking but they didn't open until 4:00!!

Yelp
This couple loves people and it shows. Their lamb plate is delectable, their appetizer platter is worth it. They have a decent wine list by the glass. After the first glass I tried, they guided me towards another I liked better. The main dining room is impressive. Lots of ionic column work, artwork, plants. Even though we we were full, they insisted on giving us baklava. Truly dedicated to the experience. Go for whatever occasion, it will be memorable.

Yelp
The food is and owners are 5 star worthy! Service was a little slow because they were also warm and friendly. The people and food arebsolutely worth the wait. It is a homey decor with lots of very bright LED lights. Not a first date type of place but four of us adapted quickly. We loved the music I assume was Bosnian, or similar. Of course this is a nonsmoking restaurant but it smelled like cigarettes to me. To put it in perspective though, I am extremely sensitive to smells and scents. If not for the cigarette smell I would have given it five stars.

Yelp
DELICIOUS!!! I ordered the cabbage rolls and loved them. My friend ordered the lamb and LOVED IT. Ingredients were fresh and came with bread, salad, fruit, and cute couple of chocolates. Everything was SO GOOD thank you!

Yelp
The Hotel staff warned us that they had a guest recently wait for two hours without being served food. We did not let that stop us from going to Drina Daisy. We waited 1 hour 45 minutes and saw our food being delivered to the table next to us. They were seated before us. Right before that, the hostess seated a table announcing loudly the they must be patient, "I don't care". That was enough. We walked. Be warned, you will wait and they do not care.

Yelp
Menu describes the food as Bosnian comfort food and that description is spot on, albeit more upscale than you'd expect for comfort food. My wife and I got a couple of apps, a salad and one pie and it was more than enough. Tasty chow, but familiar enough for the not-so-intrepid diners of European heritage in the U.S. Had a great meal and the staff was friendly.

Yelp
Great place to eat!! I had the chance to meet the owner and she was amazing!!! I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Astoria who wants to try authentic Bosnian food!

Yelp
Steve and I have been wanting to try Drina Daisy for a couple of years. The reason why it took so long is that we aren't in Astoria too terribly often and the other reason was that when we were here it was outside of their business hours and we didn't want to wait. But on our last trip to Astoria things seemed to fall into place to pay a visit here and try their food. Drina is the first Bosnian restaurant that I have tried. As their website says it is Euro-Mediterranean fare. So you can get things like Turkish Coffee and also reminds me a bit of German food as well. The restaurant is located downtown so you can incorporate your sightseeing and shopping with a meal. Best do those activities earlier though since the shops close up around 5. Now onto the food! Steve and I got two separate dishes here and both were great! I got the vegetarian stuffed cabbage which was so delicious! There were two sides that came with the dish, a fruit salad and a lettuce/ greens salad which were awesome! So very fresh! Steve got the beef goulash which also was fantastic!! The menu says that some of the dishes may vary in presentation depending upon mood. "Mood" I'm taking as what direction the chef is thinking on that day... this aspect insures that you are bound to get a very unique experience each time you come back!

Yelp
This place is a special gem. I've seen it for years but today was the first time we had dinner here. The Bosnian goulash was outstanding!!!! And the stuffed cabbage rolls with beef were "to die for". The combination of flavors was perfection. They use Arborio rice which is what's used to make risotto which made the dish stand out. And no tomato sauce hiding the flavors. This is a must stop. Please give this a try.

Yelp
This is an unusual place, and the food is really good. Bosnian food is very filling and wholesome, and Bosnian wine is really enjoyable. Service can be a bit slow so make sure you aren't in a hurry - I think it is truly a mom & pop place, and pop appeared to be the only waiter.

Yelp
We were so anxious for a great experience, it was something of a letdown. Food was good, HOWEVER, we had the lamb platter for two and it was quite tough and desperately needed salt. When we asked for salt, the waiter (probably owner) acted really put upon to get us salt as though we should never ask. He grudgingly brought it in a monkey dish with no spoon so we had to use our fingers. When my wife asked for a side plate, he went to a cabinet, found a plate that had a spot on it, picked the spot off with his thumbnail and gave it to here as thought it was a tremendous imposition. Lamb was cold when it arrived which didn't help the greasy nature of the beast. Condiments and sides were okay if skimpy. We saw some cabbage rolls that looked great, we'll give it one more try and order that. Second guy working there looked and talked as though he was fresh out of the woods. He cleared a table and carried out two spray bottles which he used as though they were the first spray bottles he'd ever encountered. After spraying a bit, he pulled a rag out of his back pocket and wiped everything then put it back in his pocket. Luckily he was wiping his runny nose on his shirt sleeve.

Yelp
Let's face it, Astoria has some good restaurants. But not a lot of diversity. It's mostly a hamburgers and sausages kinda place. There are several Asian restaurants but have not been there yet. Then comes Drina Daisy. The were full up on a Sat night but we came back 20 minutes later and they had a table. They have about a dozen different kinds of European beers. Could not make up our minds but finally picked a Karlovacko. Yum so good. The main dish was a big lamb dish. I also got the cabbage roll ups. Both came with potato, salad, and fruit. Each plate was plenty of food. That ensured lots of leftover. Very unique flavor. Not like anything else Astoria has to offer. In my humble opinion it's by far the best I have tried in town.

Yelp
We were looking for a place to eat in Astoria and thinking of seafood. We drove by Drina Daisy Bosnian Restaurant so our daughter looked it up and we decide to try Bosnian food instead. We had never tried cuisine from that area before. We looked at the menu in the window and saw something that even our picky grandson might like. Our daughter and I got the cabbage rolls with beef (Sarma), my wife got the Beef pita (Beef Burek), and our grandson got the Beef Stew (Beef Gulas). All was excellent, very savory and delicious. My wife ate her Pita but we had cabbage rolls and gulas left which we saved for breakfast. The leftovers were fantastic scrambled with eggs. We ended up being filled up twice with this delicious food. I wish we hadn't been so full, I would have loved to try the Baklava. This is definitely a goto place in Astoria.

Yelp
Finally got around to trying this restaurant. I always love trying different styles of food, and this was a great opportunity. We were greeted by a nice man that seated us in a couple minutes. Took a bit to get our beverages but wasn't too big of a deal. The complementary bread with the pepper spread came out, and it was really tasty and a good start to our meal. I ordered this pastry with beef inside for my entree, and it was a bite of heaven. It took about an hour for our party of 6 to be served, and that's understandable because they like quality over quantity. Paid of really well, and my family enjoyed thier meals thoroughly. Only negatives of the restaurant is the service. It was a bit lazy in my opinion, and actually a party of two eventually just left after a while. When it's all said and done if you're looking to try something new, and you want some fine dining food that is delicious and healthy, this is the place to go, well done

Yelp
I have been eating here for years now with my wife for special occasions. I have never been disappointed with the quality of the food. My only complaint is that I don't get to Astoria to eat here more often!

Yelp
I really, really wanted to love this place. I was so looking forward to eating here, especially given all the rave reviews. One of my daughters has lived in Bosnia for a few years and my husband and I visited Bosnia in 2016 and absolutely loved it there. We are big fans of the food of that region. We arrived about a half hour before closing on a Saturday and the restaurant had no problem serving us. There was parking right out front and the place definitely has character. Very quaint, very clean and the presentation of the meal was absolutely gorgeous. Our waiter was nice but not too interested in visiting with us. Which is fine, we didn't pay for entertainment and I figured with the late hour staff may have been tired and ready to go home. I just couldn't help being a bit disappointed since I was really interested in hearing about Bosnia. The menu was more limited than I expected, and the restaurant picks your side dish depending on what is available which I found a little strange, but ok. Food came out quickly and again, looked great. Sadly, to be honest, it just didn't taste good and was partially cold. The only thing I liked was the fresh fruit on the side and the bread. My husband's and my salad were drenched in so much vinegar, they were inedible. (And I love vinaigrette, I grew up in Europe). I have never had a salad anywhere with dressing that strong. My stew consisted basically of only meat cubes and was somewhat bland. The meat was soft but lacked flavor. We seriously considered sending back our salad and if it had been earlier in the day, I think we would have. Maybe we just came on an off night? It's such a cute place, but I just can't recommend it. We paid way too much for what we received.

Yelp
Wow! That's all I have to say. I'm originally from Bosnia, so I know my Bosnian food. This restaurant blew me out of the water. The food is absolutely phenomenal! The pite are a must have, especially the burek! Pite do take longer to make and the chef makes them from scratch and on the spot. This is not the kind of dish that's made on the spot as it takes so much time to make. But she does it right there and then after it's ordered and she does it so well. It's SO worth the wait! Her cooking took me back to my grandmother's kitchen. My husband had the lamb and wow... I'm not a fan of lamb myself, but this lamb was amazing. I couldn't even tell that it was lamb. Hands down, Fordinka (the chef) is top notch at what she does. We came all the way out from Seattle to eat here and we'll definitely be back. This place is lovely and I highly recommend it!

Yelp
Completely different than the sarma (stuffed cabbage) that I grew up on in my Macedonian family, but absolutely delicious! Service was great, the restaurant is cozy, bathrooms are clean and spacious, the meal was worth the cost. I would highly recommend making this a stop!

Yelp
I had high hopes for this place. As a family we have never tried Eastern European food before and we wanted to try something new. We were greeted by a very nice gentleman. He had trembling hands, and both him and the cook had bent backs, which made us love them for their effort. They're slow, but every ounce of energy they had was being put into this restaurant. But this is the worst restaurant for a date. The live music is too loud, and I was able to have no conversation with my date. I felt like we were on a movie theater date where we are not to get to know each other, but only to have entertainment choked down our throats. Another couple had left for the same reason. We waited two hours for just our appetizers to come out. Three families that came in after us got their food before us. Even the obnoxious live band came in after us and got food before us. I was disgusted that the bread they brought us was the leftover bread from other tables. The pickled food to go with the bread was probably from those tables too. I would never spit out food on a date, but this food I could not swallow. It came out instinctively. I felt terrible for this couple. They should not be working at this old age. Whosever parents these are, please claim them and take care of them.
