Embattled Chef Don Bowie Plots a New Doughnut Shop For Washington Avenue | Eater Houston

"A forthcoming doughnut shop being developed by Chef Don Bowie’s Culinary Matters, advertised via a pastry-chef job listing and an emerging Facebook page; it is set to occupy 5909 Washington Avenue a few blocks west of another Bowie project, but menu details are scant, no opening timeline has been announced, and Bowie declined to comment." - Brittanie Shey

My wife and I have been looking for a new donut place and I think we found it, Drip n dough is located in the highlands they not only serve donuts but hotdogs, and coffee. The donuts are mini but packed with flavor, they make the donuts right there in a few minutes so the service is wonderful, and who doesn't love made to order hot donuts? The atmosphere is cool and quiet. I enjoyed the artwork and the donuts took no time to make, now let's talk out the price .... very, very affordable. Nuff said, make sure you stop by and give this small business a try. You won't regret it.

Coming from someone who is iced coffee and donut obsessed, this place was so good!! The prices were so affordable. Made fresh and iced just the way I like it. I got the maple bacon donuts and caramel iced latte. My friend got the turtle donuts and strawberry crumble! We will def be back!

Dog, what can I even say. Let me start by saying sorry. I am kicking myself for waiting so long to come in. From beginning to end, Drip n Dough exceeded expectations. The first radical soul who walked my daughter and I through the flavors and quantity options, was so freaking patient and cool. After placing our order, we wondered about reading all the little stickers everywhere. They made it clear that as a queer single mother, this was a SAFE space. They even have a MASSIVE chalk board to leave notes or doodles on. So fun. I got my Maple Pecan Latte first. Let me tell yeah….MMMmmm. Whilst the fall flavors danced in my mouth, I had a most enjoyable chat with the most magnificent soul I’ve had the pleasure of meeting in quite some time. They (don’t want to assume) spoke of their hobbies and interests. I mean, this conversation was as if we had known each other for ages. I hope to do it again. Nonetheless, it came to a close when we got our treats. When we opened our goodies, it was a cartoon moment. Drool surfaced the corners of our mouths. The donuts were hot, soft, and packed with flavor. The dogs…oh man, the dogs. The perfection of the cooked wiener. There was no scarcity of toppings. I got one of each specialty dog they offered. From the whole seed mustard on the Chicago dog to the jalapeños atop the Louisville dog. Man o man. I’ll be back and SOON! If you haven’t stopped in, give it a go. It’s got something for everyone and it’s sure to bring a smile.

This review is about the business itself. When I saw that the artwork of donuts was done by the graffiti taggers "BIGZ" and "UROCK" I was stunned. I have worked and lived in the Highlands for a number of years. I couldn't believe that people who vandalize the neighborhood, its businesses, the city in general and art murals could be given work by a business. I do not understand how spamming your "gamertag" all over surfaces is considered art or cool, so I will leave it up to individuals to decide if they want to support this business that supports those that commit these actions.

Google
Great concept, nice place, good food, just needs some refinements here and there. Great donuts that aren’t oversweet with a variety of options, but a little expensive. Friendly employees, but aren’t very efficient (the donut stove held fifteen donuts and they had three sets of eight to make, instead of filling the stove all the way and splitting them up between orders, they only filled each stove up to eight, making things take WAY longer). Overall great business, just needs a little improvement, especially in efficiency.

Yelp
These donuts are amazing. They are fresh made and you can choose the toppings. They do take a couple minutes but are worth the wait. They also have coffee and even hot dogs for breakfast!

Yelp
The atmosphere of Drip n Dough is very nice. I pulled over to this spot after breakfast because I wanted to try it since it's new! One of the owners was there and was a super kind dude. Very excited for the growth of this place. The donuts are made fresh and you can tell when you eat them. The dough is sweet, light and fluffy. I think they should be cooked a little longer so that they don't taste cold and wet when covered with toppings. I am looking forward to trying the hot dogs next. The cold brew lacked the maple flavor, but maybe that can be fixed with more syrup. The cold foam was great. Overall, will be back. It's a new place so this review will likely be edited and rated higher when we revisit.

Yelp
Super nice and friendly service, cool atmosphere and delicious product. A nice place to drop into on a lovely spring day like this, for an almond mocha and some mini donuts.

Yelp
Overpriced and small portions. All though they made them fresh they were not very good. Just tons of sauces and syrups.

Yelp
Delicious donuts, tasty drink and a kind barista. Cute coffee shop inside, with a neon theme, some benches for while you wait and 1 table with 2 seats where we sat and ate our donuts. Highly recommend trying this new spot! My one recommendation is making the toppings warm, especially on the apple fritter!! The warm donut helped warm it a little but if the topping was warm as well that would have sent it over the top of deliciousness mountain :)

Yelp
Made-to-order miniature donuts slathered in syrup. The sort of super-sugary fare you'd expect at an amusement park or a state fair. The donuts seem almost like an afterthought - merely there so that they have a reason to fill the container with syrup. Reasonably priced, but not worth the ten minute wait. No restrooms.
