Well, most people, I being one of them, think yeah, pizza is pizza, right? Well, I was proven wrong. I saw a review for drop top Pizza on YouTube (Shout out to Detroit Food Review), and figured I drive through Saline every sunday, I might as well stop and check them out. It's not a very big place, I walked in and there was a bar on the left hand side, and the right hand side had about a dozen tables or so. When I sat down (sat at the bar) the waitress/bartender handed me all the menus ( food, drink, and daily specials) & took the time to explain how everything that they make was made fresh everyday before they open and was more than happy to answer any questions I might have regarding their menu. Very nice, a knowledgeable and caring staff. Definitely a plus.
I liked that they had local craft beers on tap , the Stout I ordered was a delicious Michigan-made Stout.
I was surprised when I looked at the menu, that all of their pizzas were under $20. Even though they are only six piece individual pan pizzas, I was still impressed by that. I decided to try their Joey's Favorite. I was quite impressed that it didn't take very long for them to hand me my pizza. They even provide a side condiment rack. This rack included fresh red pepper flakes, fresh parmesan cheese, and a couple of things that unfortunately I can't remember what they were.
So I picked up my first slice of pizza, which I was very pleased that it wasn't too hot. You know how sometimes that first piece of pizza, you bite into it and it burns your mouth, this wasn't the case, the temperature was perfect. Only one thing popped into my head when I took that first bite of my pizza. Omg, this is the best pizza I have had in years. (and no, I'm not in my twenties, I'm 60 years old). The dough of the pizza had a pleasant crunch to it, not too soft, but not overdone either. Perfect! My second slice, I added the red pepper flakes and Parmesan cheese. A definite plus that both the pepper flakes and the cheese were fresh. Made this Fantastic Pizza even better. What surprised me, is that I was able to eat all six pieces.
As you can tell, I was very glad that I stopped here. The food, the staff, the entire experience was great. If you're ever driving through Saline, I suggest you stop in and have one of these wonderful pizzas. I hear also that they're Smash Burgers are top notch as well. Check out the review on YouTube on the Detroit Food review Channel. (No, I am not affiliated with that channel). The only thing that I would suggest is if you're going to stop there, check out their hours first, since currently they don't open until 4:00 p.m. (for now).
Great job Drop Top Pizza. I will definitely be back
