What an experience! I can't believe that I've never been to Annapolis before, and that the service here was so bad! I went to Dry 85 around 1pm on a Tuesday, and damn, was the experience noteworthy.
My group of three arrived, saw there was no host, and sat at the bar. Aside from us three, there was a booth of four, a booth of two (who had waters at the table), one guest at the end of the bar, and a table of two who walked in around the same time we did.
We waited to be greeted for a few minutes (5 mins max) and got anxious that no one was coming. I contemplated leaving and going to another establishment.
The bartender came from the ether with food in hand, and dropped the food off to the guest at the end of the bar. They promptly asked for silverware when their food arrived. We were grateful to see someone who worked there and waited patiently for menus.
My friend (The DD) politely asked for a Shirley Temple, and the bartender replied, "seriously?" , which made me feel the need to explain that she would be driving. After the snide comment, my other friend decided not to get a beverage, but since we were already sitting there, I decided to get a cocktail. I ordered the El Presidente, the bartender took my vertical out-of-state ID to inspect it, and said I could order it.
I was watching while he was making my cocktail, and noticed that rather than straining the ingredients into a glass with fresh ice, he dirty poured the ingredients and the ice into the glass. I wouldn't have known the term "dirty pour" unless I had worked as a bartender.
After I got my drink, the bartender went to greet the 3-4 top sitting in a booth, and greeted them by saying "did you want to sit at a clean table?" implying that they had sat themselves at a dirty one, further insinuating that they were in the wrong for sitting there, even though there was no one to seat them. Again, another snide comment, albeit rude. I also heard the bartender make some comments to another table about how he had other tables that didn't have waters yet.
The drink itself would have been enjoyable if I hadn't felt the need to gtfo of there as soon as I could.
Im obviously from out of state, and genuinely, I don't have the highest expectations from bartenders. I get it - being busy and waiting on the kitchen for food and being the only bartender can make the work rather stressful, and I want to give this establishment the benefit of the doubt. I was looking forward to having a really good experience here, and it was unfortunately cut short.
In the end, all I can say is that this confirmed my own personal experience with individuals named Matt - they're almost always going to let you down and hurt you in the process.
