The Best Restaurants in New Orleans’s Algiers Point Neighborhood | Eater New Orleans

"Although Algiers Point’s dining scene has exploded in recent years, there’s always a place for old favorites. The Dry Dock is in that number, a casual beer and sandwich joint that never disappoints. Situated within stumbling distance of the ferry terminal, this is a friendly spot with traditional New Orleans dishes like gumbo and barbecue shrimp along with burgers and wings." - Beth D’Addono

We enjoyed it here. We took the RTA ferry (don't get on the wrong ferry) at Canal Street and the river from New Orleans to Old Algiers. That was fun. It's a short walk, to the RIGHT when you get off the ferry, not straight ahead. You'll pass a BIG statue of Louis Armstrong. The bar and restaurant are clean and the drinks are good. Much better prices than across the river. Just don't miss the last ferry!

Small, quiet pub atmosphere. Great place to take in a football game. I got the burger, which was prepared to my liking. A little out of the way in a small corner of the Algiers Point area. East access to the ferry that runs over to the French Quarter.

Google
Great local dive bar and eatery located across the river in Gretna. Take the ferry across. $3 all day pass [80 cents for Seniors] 2 minute walk from ferry dock. Had the Chicken 🐔 fingers and french dip. Both very good.

Decided to finally take the ferry and check out Algiers Point while visiting NoLa. We have been coming to the city yearly for 13 years and have waited 13 years too long. This restaurant is phenomenal. The atmosphere is so friendly from the employees to the patrons. Super cute restaurant too. The food: Soooooo goood!!! The wings were the perfect level of crispy and the sauce was perfect. Not too spicy! Burger was amazing. Hubby loved the tamales. Go here. Take the ferry and go here. We will be back!

In our 3-day trip to NOLA, this was one of our better take-ins: we skipped the paddleboats, though lovely to watch (anywhere from $45-110) and took the ferry across the Mississippi to Algiers for $1.25. We enjoyed being on the water, feeling the breeze, and seeing the riverboats on the water and the skyline for great photos. At the Louis Armstrong statue near the dock walked just a few steps to the Dry Dock Cafe for some great home cooking in a real local hangout with real people. We had red beans & rice, po-boys and some excellent desserts. Then enjoyed the ride back and the view. It was affordable, enjoyable, and memorable. Thank you Dry Dock for a great evening!

I went here in 2021 and have fond memories. Went again, I did go in 10 minutes before closing and the lady serving us was very nice. I asked her which seafood poboy to get, and got exactly what she said to get. Half catfish half shrimp. Total was 25.99 even though the menu said 20$? Pretty steep for a sandwich but I remember the place being good. The sandwhich was disgusting. Stale bread, no shrimp, 2 catfish peices the size of a chicken nugget, wasn't topped with lettuce, only a piece of tomato and 2 pickle slices, and the sandwhich was loaded with fried batter. Fried batter kinda looked like shrimp but turned to dust when you crush it. I'm a big guy and was starving but I did not finish that sandwhich. Again it was disgusting and it was recommended to me!! Fries were good. My girlfriend got the sausage gumbo. It had crab shell in it? It also had a crab leg?? Yes a leg, not a claw. Overall, for a cup of soup and a sandwich it came out to 40$. No combos. For that price, I was really let down.

During our vacation, we had the pleasure of dining at this lovely restaurant. The staff welcomed us with such warmth, making us feel right at home. The food was not only delicious but also incredibly fresh and served piping hot. It truly made our day special.

Google
I had an opportunity to eat at the Dry Dock Cafe and I was pleased with the experience. The waitstaff are very personable and took good care of me. The food was good, not gourmet but good. The atmosphere is very casual, friendly and welcoming. This is not a fancy restaurant but it does provide good food and service.

Yelp
We went to watch a game. And we were greeted by a nice bar tender the staff seemed nice. The chairs and tables were very out of wack and almost coming apart. Basic bar we just had shots and cold drinks all good Po boys and catfish platters and everything was pretty good basic local style food no complaints at all Good local bar/cafe but need to clean better and fix any broken chairs and tables

Yelp
We decided to finally take the ferry across to check out Algiers Point and Dry Dock Cafe did not disappoint. If you like an older establishment that's part of the local scene, this is it especially in decor and overall vibes. We ordered the Alligator sausage, catfish fingers, red beans and rice with sausage and this was hands down one of the best meals we have ever eaten. My husband loves alligator and he said it was the best he ever had. I didn't think it was gamey and I can be picky about it. The catfish was so tender and tartar sauce with it so light and rich. The red beans and rice were flavorful without feeling heavy with sodium. Even the bread to go with it was delicious and I don't usually like bread. IPA on tap also refreshing and good compliment. Definitely worth the trip along, and it was easy to cross the ferry at $2 per person each way, especially with prices being very reasonable and wait staff friendly.

Yelp
Dry Dock Café is an amazing, must-visit spot. The muffalleta was delicious and paired perfectly with Abita beer. If you're on Algiers, I highly recommend spotting by.

Yelp
We found ourselves feeling a little hungry after taking a walk through the swamp about 15 minutes from the cafe, and popped into this quaint little establishment for lunch while exploring the greater New Orleans area. Our plan was to park the car, grab some lunch, then take the ferry across the Mississippi to the city. The Cafe is less than 100 meters from the ferry terminal, and the plan was to take it across ($2 for adults each way, kids free under a certain age) and explore the French Quarter. Street parking is limited, but there is a pay lot for ferry traffic that was reasonable. Unfortunately, the ferry was closed that Monday due to high winds. Still, our visit was not a loss, as we had a chance to try the Dry Dock Cafe. The wife and I split a catfish and shrimp platter, and the kiddo had a grilled cheese. Portions were plenty big, and the service was great. They also make a decent Bloody Mary, if you are in the mood. This is a solid spot, especially if you are able to combine it in with a ferry trip.

Yelp
Excellent service. A wonderful lobster bisque dish in general and nice comfortable venue.

Yelp
A chill, casual sports bar in Algiers Point. My friend and I stopped here mainly to grab a cold water bottle and to use their restroom. I believe it was the owner or manager that served us, didn't catch his name, but he was pleasant and helpful. Their restroom was fairly clean except there was no soap, so I had to use hand sanitizer. Their food menu looked good, just that my friend and I weren't hungry as we had ate prior to coming here and going on the ferry to visit Algiers Point, so we didn't order any food on our visit.

Yelp
Food was ok, we had a club sandwich. The onion rings were pretty good though. Service was ok.
google avatar

Phuong N.

Yelp
Food was ok, nothing to brag about. Waiting for 35 minutes was kind of long when there weren't many customers. Location is very convenient for anyone taking the ferry and wants to grab something before or after taking the ferry.

Yelp
Take the fairy across the way and stop in to the Dry Dock Cafe the muffaletta is huge even when split into four pieces!! Food is delicious!

Anitra G.

Yelp
Dylan is so down to earth and patient with me and my indecisiveness lol . Yall go see him !

Yelp
Delicious!! We had the catfish on a bun with a cup of the shrimp and corn bisque, and the bread pudding for dessert. Everything was served quickly (less than 5-10 minutes from the time we ordered to when we got our food. We finished our food within 30 minutes of getting here!) and the staff are super friendly. The bread pudding had whiskey and peach pieces in it -- one of the best we've ever had. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Solid neighborhood bar. Outside seating makes for a cold one if you've crossed over on the ferry. Descent burgers and food. My favorite is the club sandwich and a side of slaw. Just like what June and the girls would get at the Country club while Jerry and his buddies tee off. Specials listed on a giant ass board, you may spot a few locals hanging out and the staff is always more than pleasant. And if you wanna be cool like me order the club no membership required, lol.

Yelp
It's a pretty basic place that's not crazy expensive. No frills. Gets the job done. The wings are fine but there are only 6 in an order. Everything tasted perfectly fine but nothing to write home about.

Jill M.

Yelp
What a happy find just off of the ferry! Everyone enjoyed their meals immensely and the price was more than reasonable. Our whole party enjoyed the laid back atmosphere and accommodating staff!

Yelp
This is probably the first place you'll see stepping off the Canal Street - Algiers Ferry, so it gets plenty of traffic from folks coming over for the day. Dry Dock is good enough as long as you bring the right expectations. The place is half bar half cafe, and they offer what you'd expect; Various fried seafood plates, hamburgers, po-boys, etc. I had a shrimp po-boy that was tasty enough, and honestly better than my first impressions of the bar interior. Also, it's worth noting that they have fairly late hours compared to other places in the area. It's a great spot for a greasy plate, and a few cold beers
google avatar

Yelp
Cute little place by the Ferry dock. Food was good but the service wasn't all that. Seemed like they were more interested in the locals than the guests...
google avatar

Kevin E.

Yelp
Okay place but be aware of what you order! I ordered the Catfish Fingers that came atop a bed of fries, I thought I ordered catfish but what I got was breading, seriously, the catfish that came inside the breading was no thicker than a piece of paper, god I was so disappointed, I had had ENOUGH breading while I was in the Big Easy!

Yelp
Took a ferry ride to kill some time across to Algiers Point. While there yelped places to eat and their were 2. Decided to not have pizza so choice #1 was this place. As we were about to enter we asked the exiting family ( with little ones) how was the food. They said it was great so in we went. Small hometown sports bar vibe, seated quickly, and it never stopped. Service was quick, lots of suggestions from waitstaff, even got a visit from Chef Sam who share his secret to the bread pudding. And it wasn't the whiskey cause he showed us the bottle. So much fun and the food was great. A great find on a whim!!!

Yelp
Great place to escape the French Quarter madness. Clean honest bar-cafe. Take the ferry across the river. Shrimp Pasta was a great lunch. Service was fast and friendly. I'd go back in a minute. Plus a cheap ferry boat ride!

Yelp
Wonderful experience, as always. Excellent service. Get the catfish fingers. Great place to watch a Saints game.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent food and drinks in a nice setting next to the Algiers Point ferry terminal. I had the wings and a draft beer. Both were excellent followed off by home made carrot cake. Most highly recommended.
google avatar

Donnie C.

Yelp
Cool neighborhood bar at the foot of the Westbank ferry landing. Depends on what you order could be pricey for the portion. But an understuffed fried oyster PoBoy was $19, even the French bread appeared to be slim in size than what I grew up w/at other restaurants. I don't feel it's a tourist trap, but it's probably shrinkflation.
google avatar

Jeanne B.

Yelp
I should have come here the first day of my vacation instead of the last day. The food was fresh and delicious! I ordered the gluten free catfish dinner. OMG....the catfish was flakey and moist and the hush puppies were sweet and so good. I was upset with myself for not coming here sooner. It's right by the Algiers Point ferry, not expensive and a great place to chill.
google avatar

Yelp
This place has been here as long as I can remember. I love all the life preservers hanging on the walls Some of them even have names on them from the boats they came from. I have always had a good lunch here. I really enjoy the sweet potato fries. There are tables and chairs outside where you can sit with your dogs. I see bowls for water for your faithful companions

Darrin R.

Yelp
The food was what I expected from a local cafe. The food was really good and not overly priced like the other side of the river. Service was just ok since we were one of the few people in the cafe. I would have thought they would have checked on us more often but it didn't bother me that much. It is a small cafe with a hometown vibe that I really enjoyed.

Lisa M.

Yelp
Great shrimp po boy, beer and attentive service. This is where you go to meet nice people and have fun!

LaxChix C.

Yelp
Been coming to this place for years always the same. Nice piece of NOLA on the west bank in Algiers. Nice staff always- worth a trip on the ferry to get out of the quarter.

Philip B.

Yelp
Good food and service. Perfect location near the ferry landing on the Mississippi. The folks are friendly and professional.
google avatar

Kylie A.

Yelp
Stopped in before going over on the ferry. Had a catfish po-boy and it was delicious. The kids had the catfish and fries and loved it. My husband had the pork chop special with mashed potatoes and was impressed they were real mashed potatoes. He said the pork chops were really tender.

Yelp
I first went to the Dry Dock in 1991. It was this amazing local pub geared strictly for the locals, the people working the shipyard. I've enjoyed many a pint there, over the years. Fast forward to last weekend. It's a sports bar. All the character is gone, covered up with televisions and football paraphernalia. Fine, if that is what you're after. But not for me. Not anymore. If I want to go to a sports bar, I'll find a Buffalo Wild Wings.
google avatar

Nicole A.

Yelp
I LOVE dry dock! Great place to sit, relax and enjoy some awesome food. I honestly don't know how it's not always overrun with people.

Cameron F.

Yelp
No seasoning, overpriced. Gumbo wasn't good very bland. Ok service. Salt and pepper goes a long way. Will not be coming back.
google avatar

Dawn M.

Yelp
Hit and miss for sure, we have listened to the locals. There were 3 of us- they do not separate checks, so heads up there. One ordered hamburger steak, brown gravy with onions and mushrooms, mashed potatoes- yum! Better than expected. One ordered bacon cheeseburger and fries- safe order. I ordered catfish fingers with a salad. Not good. The catfish was mushy and fell apart, some bites were fishy. Tasted like the bottom of the river. The waitress did take $4 off for us. The beer selection is limited- bottles more than taps. Probably first and last time.

Anne M.

Yelp
We ordered 2 Shrimp Poboys to go, and they were awful especially for the greedy enormous price. First, it had too much bread because it barley had any shrimp. The shrimp were small, flat, and had a weird texture with zero taste, much like cheap frozen shrimp. Disappointed!
google avatar

Emily M.

Yelp
Went walking through the point with a group of friends today and after visiting the pop up market nearby, figured it was a good time for a walking beer. Went inside for what I thought might be a 60 second interaction but left after the two guys ahead of me, visually impatient, watched the bartender slowly make three bloody Mary's from scratch. What, no pre batched mix on a Sunday morning?? Walked out until they completed their transaction. Still thirsty, I went back in, knowing that I wanted just a can of beer to go. SIX DOLLARS. For a locally brewed beer. Pretty shocked at the sticker price, and wouldn't have expected that for such a divey location. I'll pass by next time and save it for somewhere else.
google avatar

Marybeth O.

Yelp
Decent! Food was good! Just a bit pricey. And service was slow...but it is more of a bar/lounge feel so that makes snese
google avatar

Lindsey S.

Yelp
This place feels like home to me. I've been here plenty times before and it's always soooo good. My poboy was outstanding, French fries were golden with a little tony's. The red beans and rice had perfect texture just no seasoning. The service was great Didn't order any adult beverages this time but when we do, we get a Long Island iced tea to honor Mamaw who use to frequent here.
google avatar

Meg T.

Yelp
Dry Dock is a total dive bar, but a pretty nice air conditioned place to stop for a water and soda before you catch the ferry back across. The service is small town and friendly, and while it's expensive enough to make you laugh ($3 for a fountain soda) it's the only game in town when you're waiting for the ferry. And an absolute step up from sitting inside the terminal. All in all I'd drop in again, and probably try the food next time.
google avatar

Bob P.

Yelp
If you love dive bars, this is your place! The drinks were hand made and ok. We found the staff to be unfriendly..... so we only stayed for one drink. Also heard the kids next to us complain about the $12 price of a marginal hamburger. Nope.... this was a one stopper for me.
google avatar

Kristi M.

Yelp
We took the ferry over for lunch. I had the Cajun roast beef poboy. It was so tasty and juicy. The fries were perfectly cooked with some seasoning salt. It's a cute location and very comfortable.
google avatar

Yelp
We quit eating here about 4 years ago. Before that, each of our experiences were terrible and we wouldn't go back for 9-12 months. We tried giving it 2nd, 3rd, and 4th chances. At this point, i wouldn't even eat here if it was the only restaurant left in New Orleans. I won't drink here either because my last beer tasted like mildew. Do yourself a favor, and go next door and get a pizza (excellent service and food there) or if it's lunch go a few more blocks to Toute Suite. Or just eat out of the vending machine at the ferry terminal. Most recently, the female manager was outside having a nervous breakdown screaming into her cellphone and repeatedly yelling the F word in some sort of drug-induced temper tantrum. I was walking by with my 5 year old daughter (who heard all the bad words). The male owner was just sitting there, watching her act like an unprofessional lunatic while she screamed in front of all the customers and passersby. He simply did not care, which is weird and troubling. If he doesn't respect the neighborhood and his customers enough to give them a moderately peaceful meal, what the heck does he allow to go on in the actual kitchen? He is an incompetent business owner, and the majority neighborhood thinks this place sucks.
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
This place is okay-- nothing to write about to sell it besides the location. It's right as you get off the ferry and is an energetic place. The food is subpar at best but it isn't awful. It's overpriced for the food that it is.
google avatar

Yelp
My husband and I live in Algiers and frequent the Dry Dock and always refer people that way when in town. That will change after last night. I called at 7:57 p.m. and a female answered and I place an order for pick up for 2 chicken tenders with fries for my kids for dinner. She told me it would be 10-15 minutes. 20 minutes later I show up and say to the female behind the bar that I am here to pick up a to go order. She seemed confused and did something at the register then without speaking laid a receipt on the bar in front of me for 1 order of tenders. I said no, I called and placed an order for 2 tenders with fries and she said I did not call. She argued with me about it yelling at me that I did not call and speak to her. asked me what number I called so I told her and she went to the caller ID and even READ MY NUMBER BACK TO ME OFF OF IT.. and I said yes that's me and she said well you didn't speak to me did you speak to a male or female and I said female and she continued to yell saying I did not speak to her when clearly I did. She seemed like she was high on something. I told her to forget it. the poor cook came out and tried to ask what it is I wanted to order but was trying to talk over her being loud and rude and I left. WE WON'T BE BACK.

Yelp
Its a charmer. We heard that the fee to ride across the Mississippi River to Algiers was $2.00 adults, $1.00 seniors. A $6.00 round trip with bragging rights we'd technically boated Old Man River. Algiers is so New England/Creole adorable. Charming people, homes, and pets. A puppy named Beniet decided to follow us to the Irish pub we had on our To Do list. Best. Irish Coffee. Ever...at least in Louisiana. A mix of locals and tourists. One great Irish Coffee is allowed to lead to two when we are days happily ignoring cars to safely snoop the little bars/delicious eateries on foot, trolley, on and off bus (our favorite) and now ferry across the Mississippi. Totally DO THIS. Ferry to Algiers from public transit and hit the pubs. Sit. Stay awhile. St. Patricks Day promises to be excellent.

Liz B.

Yelp
I grew up in NOLA and spent some time in Algiers Point, this place has been a staple for decades in my eyes. But after living away from home for so long, it was so nice to see they still have such reasonable prices after getting off the ferry. AND the bartender was nice enough to lend me her phone cable when I realized I'd forgotten mine!
google avatar

Pablo L.

Yelp
Great server. She was working hard only person there. We ordered food the food arrived cold. We send one back from the 4 dishes we order. The pop boy shrimp was horrible.
google avatar

Rosa D.

Yelp
Made it across the river to visit Algiers Point. Wakes around and ended at the cafe for lunch before we took the ferry back to the other side. This is a small little but nice place. The staff were all nice. We were attended to right away. We shared a platter and it was plenty for the two of us. Fish was nice and flaky. The toast was nice and buttery. Give it a try if you are in the area.
google avatar

Josh M.

Yelp
This is a classic bar and grill type place. Very good food and fun laid back atmosphere. I got the fried catfish po-boy, which I would definitely recommend! Paired with a nice local Canebreak beer, this meal was on point, literally! Algiers point is right out the window, so you can enjoy a nice view of the river and downtown. You can even ride the ferry over to the French Quarter if you want to continue your fun-filled evening. One more perk about this place: their fried catfish and hush puppies are gluten free, since it is all fried in corn flour. This was a major bonus for our family, as we have some gluten-free members. Dry Dock is a solid choice for anyone who wants good food and a good time.
