I've been coming to this produce stand since they set up shop. I am in love. Usually, I fill up 2 or 3 bags of fresh veggies and fruit, never having paid more than $25. My family and I go through TONS of produce because we makes smoothies, juice and I puree lots of things and pour it into lots of things and cook/bake lots of things so that my boys get all the veggies and fruit they are supposed to, without KNOWING it.
What I truly love about Duane's is their customer service, pricing and quality aside because they are top notch. Duanes workers are always very sweet, helpful and informative. I wish I was a names kind of girl, you know-the type of person who knows the name of their checker at the grocery store, the name of their barista and the name of their banker. I'm not, so I can't name drop. However, the skinny older white guy-that guy, he is amazing. I'll ask his name the next time I'm in. He's opened many a fruit or veggie for me for taste purposes. I try new recipes every week and he always has a tid bit to help me make my meal even better.
Last week, he mentioned that the Mexican squash would be really good in my vegetarian minestrone that I was going to make with zucchini. I took his advice and he was right, it was light and delicious and I was thankful. Then a few months ago, I was looking into getting some pears (they're the new apple in my casa) and he opened up a hybrid pear they had just gotten in and sliced it up for me to try. I bought 10 and they were gone in three days! My boys loved them.
For fresh, great produce at ridiculously inexpensive prices, Duanes is the place to go. They have Smith Brother farm milk and dairy products, a great assortment of dried beans/legumes, locally made chips and salsas and an assortment of sausages/brauts to die for.
Tis the season for planting and they also have a really diverse group of potted plants and herbs you can buy for great deals, then plant and enjoy for the summer. I'm eye balling some basil, thyme, mint and oregano. I just walked there with my gal pal the other day and loaded the stroller up but alas, I think I'll need to bring the wagon to haul the plants I want to buy. This is worth driving a little out of the way for, especially if you enjoy produce.
OH and btw, I will never buy peppers again from anywhere else. This is the best deal, $1.99 per LB not PER PEPPER. THANK GAWD!!!
