Recently, I had the pleasure of dining at Duang Dy, the newly opened Thai restaurant at the One & Only Zabeel Hotel. The evening started on a delightful note with a unique Thai fortune-telling game, which was an unexpected and fun way to kick off our experience.
The food presentation was undeniably beautiful, showcasing vibrant colors and intricate plating. We sampled a variety of dishes, including the Thai cupcake with coconut seafood curry, stir-fried prawns with zucchini, chicken and corn dumplings, and green curry with salted beef ribs. For dessert, we indulged in pandan noodles with agar agar, young coconut in date syrup, and a complimentary date cake that was served in celebration of my friend's birthday.
While the flavors were tasty, I would describe them as quite average—nothing extraordinary that stood out. However, the quality of the food was solid, and it was enjoyable nonetheless. What truly elevated the experience was the ambiance of the restaurant, which is likely what you pay for more than anything else. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and our server, Nino, was super professional and sweet, contributing to a memorable dining experience.
Overall, Duang Dy offers a pleasant evening with its charming ambiance and visually appealing dishes, even if the flavors themselves don't leave a lasting impression.
