I was staying in the Upper West Side late October for a week and came here twice as a single woman alone at night..great vibe, felt safe walking back to my hostel up Amsterdam..I will always return here next in NYC..there is also a Banksy right beside it

Wanted to meet a mate for an early evening catchup and looked for a place on the UWS right off the 1 train. The Dublin House was perfectly located. This was my first visit to this pub and had no expectations outside of the few reviews I read on Google Maps. The Dublin House didn’t disappoint. As soon as I walked in I felt at home encountering all the anticipated sights, sounds and smells. The interior had a typical pub layout with plenty of bar space and adjacent tables. The bartender was pleasant and solicitous without being over bearing. Prices for beer and whiskey were reasonable and in line with Manhattan if not slightly cheaper. Because we met for drinks at 4pm, we shared the bar with only a handful of other patrons. However due to its location and reputation, I can imagine the place would attract larger crowds as the evening wears on. If you’re on the UWS and in need of a pint, stop in and enjoy the pub. They open earlier than many other establishments.

Lovely little Irish pub not far from central park (about a 10 minutes walk). As it's quite central I expected the prices to be quite pricey, however the drinks were reasonably priced and very tasty cocktails. The customer service was great, the bartender was quick to take our order and make our drinks for us with a smile. I had left one of my belongings behind and worried that I wouldn't get it back. When I returned back at the bar, the bartender had put my belongings at the side and told me he kept them safe. So grateful for this.

Walked in and was met with the rudest bartender of all time. Young Irish woman called us ignorant for walking into the bar when all signs pointing to it being open. Honestly one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with bar staff. Walked out immediately and will never be returning.

The most authentic "old school" Irish Bar in the city, You will feel at home as soon as you walk in. Nothing fancy, a taste of true Ireland on the upper west side.

Atmospheric, old school bar that I have been walking by for 40 years. It has one of the few remaining neon signs in Manhattan. The interior is straight out of central casting, with a long bar backed up by booths. There were some regulars and some barflies. Pleasant place to knock back a Guinness or two.

Spent time here a couple afternoons on a recent visit to NYC. Perfect spot for a cocktail and football and went back while I was waiting for some yarn across the street at Knitty City. Really good cocktails!

Dublin House is a quiet, dim lit hideaway. It doesn't offer food but it's a laidback place to enjoy a Guinness and carry on a conversation at a normal speaking volume. That is a rare find on a fall Sunday afternoon.

Management needs to calm down with the signage. How are you gonna put Dublin in your name and then be the least hospitable Irish bar before the customer even walks in. I'm from Dublin. I'll update this to 5 stars and try a pint when I can get in the door without being kicked in the teeth with this crap. It's a toilet. It's not the Taj Mahal. I had a look inside, looks like a good spot. Hopefully the carpet matches the drapes soon.

Cozy old school pub to enjoy a nice cold Harp or Guinness. I have downed a few here at times. It's one of those NYC throwback bars that you don't find much anymore. Wood paneling, linoleum floors, single seating booths along the wall, and a wonderful neon sign over the doorway from an older era. The sign has seen better days as it needs to be repaired and restored. They are also celebrating their 100 year anniversary which is pretty cool. It reminds me of an old man's bar which is all good as the city needs them. Nothing like sitting at the bar and hearing their stories. Unless they want to be left alone with their beer and thoughts.

I called to ask about their menu and the staff were so rude, and hung up on me, definitely wouldn't recommend if this is how they speak customers.

Bartender wasn't friendly. Seemed like they only cared about you being there if you ordered drinks nonstop. Wouldn't recommend it if you're trying to enjoy a good time with friends.

Outstanding. Spent almost 3 weeks in Manhattan (from Australia). Visited a lot of bars, and this place was by far our favourite. Tony, Nicola, and Mike were all fantastic but Tony had to put up with us the most. Drinks were always good and although no food, we were allowed to bring in pizza from across the road. Regulars were all friendly and entertaining. Go to the UWS and go to Dublin House! Cheers.

Shite! Used to be a great place to go. Batman grumpy and not happy about making a manhattan. Expensive and the last time I'll set foot in this place!

Great atmosphere. Bartender is nice and pours a proper Guinness. If your going to see a show at the Beacon it's good for a pre or post pint.

Love the sign outside. No food. Since it was st patty's weekend I ordered an Irish coffee $20 and a Guiness $13. Ridiculous prices even for the city.

Probably the worst service i've ever had at a bar. the bartender was incredibly rude and insulting from the second my friends and i walked in. we ended up leaving because everyone we would go up to order a simple beer she would make another snide remark for no reason. the bar was empty and she repeatedly told my friends to get up and leave because other people were waiting to sit. I'll never return here and will tell my friends to stay away.

I would like to write my review about a recent experience I had at the DUBLIN HOUSE: I had the pleasure of being served by an exceptional bartender recently and I must say, I was blown away by their skills and enthusiasm. Not only was MIKE knowledgeable about making drinks, but he also had a fantastic attitude that made the entire experience so much more enjoyable. From the moment I approached the bar, Mike greeted me with a smile and a warm welcome, making me feel right at home. Throughout the night, Mike kept the conversation flowing and made sure that my drinks were always full and to my liking. He made sure to ask about my family and kids, and I thought it was really sweet that he was so thoughtful. He even went the extra mile to recommend some new and exciting cocktails that I would never have thought to try on my own. I was thoroughly impressed by Mike's attention to detail and their ability to create delicious and unique drinks that perfectly suited my tastes! I asked for a strawberry daiquiri, and he recommended something called "Gulness" or something. It was very yummy. In addition to their impressive skills as a bartender, Mike's personality and demeanor is also top-notch. He clearly has a passion for mixology. It is infectious and makes the entire experience so much more enjoyable. Overall, I would highly recommend this bar to anyone looking for a fantastic night out. Their bartender's skills, personality, and enthusiasm made for an unforgettable experience, and I can't wait to go back and be served by them again!

Walk into a piece of history, they just celebrated 100 years and if they don't change a thing they'll be celebrating a hundred more. All the whiskey selection you'd expect from an Irish bar and definitely one of the freshest Guinness pours I've had in NYC. Be sure to stop by and see their famous sign when it's relit later this month.

I love this chill, historic, adorable pub. Perfect neighborhood spot for a relaxed pint and good conversation. A lot of TV shows and movies have shot here over the years, and it's fun to have a look around. Please don't go anywhere, Dublin House!

Old-school bar. You'll either love this place or hate it (I loved it). This bar opened during prohibition, but is only "officially" open since 1933 (when it became legal to drink again). The bartender told me a story of a woman who came in and asked what time the kitchen closed. The owner told her "1976." Needless to say, they don't serve food.

Nothing special except the gruff bartender. He was kind of rude and I respect him for that. The cocktails weren't great, but the cider was solid.

The worst. There is a $25 minimum on credit card and all I needed was a bathroom. I would have gladly bought one drink...and the place was empty. No their stupid rules aren't a NY thing to answer other reviewer's question.

Hiking for several hours around Central Park- we need a drink. Some of the higher end places weren't open yet, and it was too late for lunch specials. A couple of blocks from the Park and the Museum of Natural History, we find this small quaint locals' pub. Another long and skinny dark wood bar. But we didn't know it was a real NYC Irish bar. Since being open before Prohibition, it is literally a historical landmark. We had a couple of great simple drinks and rested up. The staff was nice and the place clean.

This place is named Tap Room on the exterior but Dublin house when you go inside. They have 5 taps lol. How are you the tap room with 5 taps one of them being Stella, the most basic ever beer. Anyways the bartender isn't friendly and she demands $8/ beer the minute she puts the beer in front of you. And her vibe is poor and not hospitality standard Overall I wouldn't come here again

Cheapos. Charge for just club soda, per glass. Didn't say anything until delivering a hefty check. Is that a NY thing?

LOVE the Dublin House! It's a true pub and an absolute UWS staple! Low key, welcoming, great drinks. This is our 'go to' bar in the neighborhood. My husband and I recently got some hoodies from them and they are really good quality. Will be getting my whole family Dublin House hoodies for Christmas this year! I enjoyed their temporary outdoor setup they had over the summer too!

It's a bar...I wouldn't compare it to an Irish pub, despite the name. Went in for an Irish coffee...the ready whip was a big turn off. Might as well be Applebees. Someone said you'll either love it or hate it. So.

I spent quite a week here one morning. It's a nice Irish bar that isn't wide, but goes back pretty deep. The bar is on one side with booths on the other and a private area in the back. I went very early with some coworkers. We work midnights and they opened early so, lucky us! There isn't any food, but they didn't have a problem with us bringing some in. The beers were good, the shots were gooder (yeah that was on purpose). We all had a really good time, drank a bit too much, but didn't get rowdy. The bartender was great, I'd name her, but I can't remember for the life of me.

Met someone here for a drink. Great location right near the train station, very relaxed atmosphere and definitely a chill place to go after the workday has ended. Service was decent and it managed to be free from pretension without being completely nasty or gross or seedy. I had a seltzer and nobody hassled me so I was a happy camper.

Cold beer, drinks and a great rock and roll music is played here. Zeppelin, The Stones The Who. They played Alice Cooper too which was weird as I am seeing him at the Beacon Theater tonight.

I must have stepped into an alternate reality. This place felt nothing like Manhattan. The neon green and pink sign flashing brightly above should have been a sign of things to come. It was like Pulp Fiction, something right out of a Quentin Tarantino creation. The bar was empty with less than a handful of people. The place was empty on a Friday night. That is proof that we are not in Gotham. There was an authentic Irish-accented bartender which sort of made things a bit better. I had a few Smithfield's on tap. I refuse to drink anything in a bottle unless you put a gun to my head. And even then, I might ask you to pull the trigger. But that is where authenticity ends and complete weirdness comes in. There is a high-tech jukebox, so you can play whatever you like. But for some reason, ranchera was the only thing coming out of the box that night. Irish bar and ranchera music. As we are outside having a smoke, this kid strikes up a conversation. Don't know his age, but he is suspicious. He also shows us more interesting things, which I can't reveal here. And then admits to things, which I also can't reveal here. Once inside, a lady befriends me and just starts talking. She also admits to things, which I can't reveal here either. The night is already weird. And honesty she was kind of weird. Now if I only had my notebook to write a short novella. These characters would all fit in nicely. If you want to escape Gotham, just head over here one night. I'll gladly join you with notebook in hand.

There aren't many old school bars left in NYC. This is one of them. Come in and get the flavor of old New York. Old bartenders. Real Irish charm. Order a shot. Drink a pint. Chill. Get wasted. Boom.

This place has been around for quite a while, and I'm happy that it sticks around. I agree with the other reviewers, this is a nice beacon of rest in an area that is not particularly known for its old school bars. This place is a throwback, and has a lot of charm, with it's old and original wooden bar, that seems to be buffed smooth from use. Quaint small booths let you relax if you need a little private time. The authentic Irish bartender joked that he was almost as old as the bar. Nice guy. Overall a very good spot to stop.

For bars, it's great. Keep it simple. Beers, whiskeys, well drinks, wine. We had some beers and shots. No kitchen. Old school Irish bartenders.

Now THIS, my friends, is my future. A dark bar with absolutely no frills and a real nice, old school bartender. I'll spend my final afternoons hunched over a table with a beer in hand, chatting to the youngin's who happen in, and hopefully have someone to share old memories with. Reminds me of a New York somewhat past, and while hindsight is 20/20, this place works for me today, and probably will tomorrow.

From the exterior of the bar, I was kind of expecting something more. I went in on a Sunday afternoon to an empty bar with less than a dozen people in it. There are only 5 beers on tap including Harp, Stella, Smithwicks, and Guinness. The beers were a bit on the high side at $7 each but probably make sense for the UWS neighborhood. They had mini 2 person booths in the front part of the bar and further seating in the back. If they had actual food I was not aware. They had four TVs showing a baseball game and one showing the news. The bathroom was pretty clean. Overall, I got exactly what I wanted from a bar; a nice quiet place to grab a drink and have a chat. I'm curious to see what this place looks like when it's busy. There is a happy hour during the week Monday - Friday til 7pm where drinks are $4 Overall, Dublin House is a clean dive bar.

I don't even want to call it a dive bar because you can tell they been around for a good minute and it's clean. Conveniently located next to the 79th stop for the 1 train on the Upper West Side and close to Central Park it is centrally located. The prices are reasonable and a good choice of beer for everyone you rolling with happy. Good neighborhood Irish pub with clean bathrooms. I will take it.

You can't miss the iconic neon sign out front. Open until 4am, this little dive bar is the perfect tap room including darts in the back and a funky smell upon arrival due to the historic nature of the bar (i.e. decades of fun). This is my favorite neighborhood stop to relax with friends. They have reasonable prices, fun selections of drinks and shots as well as great music.

I have always walked past this bar, but always noticed the Neon sign outside. Came in by chance and loved it. Is it worth coming out of your way for? Probably not, but if you are in the area this is an old school bar with great drink prices and very laid back atmosphere with Irish bartenders. This is a neighborhood bar, not a destination bar. You won't make a special trip to check this place out but let me assure you that if you're in the neighborhood and are in need of a watering hole, this place rocks! Don't ask for something fancy, this is a place to gather your buzz. Shots of Jameson followed by a Smithwick's is a perfect combo. It is an Irish bar after all.

The bar itself was nice but the bartender (middle-aged Irish guy) was a real asshole. When my husband was served a beer, there was too much head so the beer wasn't filled to the top. When he asked the bartender if it was possible to fill it a little more, he said, "are you kidding me?!" The bartender was willing to make a scene in front of the whole bar just because someone asked about filling the beer to the top when the head subsided. Needless to say, we didn't leave a tip. Even if the request was unreasonable, the bartender shouldn't make his customers feel foolish but should make them feel comfortable and happy to be there--his demeanor and actions show him to be a far-cry away from satisfying those criteria. Being there is a $25 credit card minimum there, we paid for our drinks in cash and he gave the change almost knowing he wasn't getting a tip.

I was walking by on Sunday eve about 9pm. Needed a place to have 40th birthday drinks for my friend later that week. I go in, was an older bartender (maybe 60yo). Doesn't seem very friendly. I ask if they have happy hour on weekdays. "4-7pm" he says. "What is the happy hour special? (two-for-one, discount, etc..) "We're all happy here." "Haha, yes, but what is the happy hour?" Clearly not happy I asked the question, he walks away. I will not be going back to this bar with a group or otherwise.

NYC creates a warped impression about what a pub is. Just b/c you rent a space, name it St. Something/Blarney Stone/O'Something/McSomething/etc., you serve Guinness and Harp on tap, and you build a bar with brass railings, it doesn't make it a pub. A pub needs a heart. I can't define it but you can tell a pub has a heart when it's got old geezers and dogs in it. Dublin House has a heart. Unfortunately for my Dublin House patronage, I don't use this organ when selecting bars. I use my eyes (I like eye candy), my tongue (I like microbrews, nice wine), my ears (I like music), my stomach (I like food), and another organ (see 'my eyes' parenthetical). But if I ever get around to following my heart, I'll find my way back to the Dublin House more. This will probably have to wait, though, until my other organs aren't functioning quite as well as they do today...

You will never get lost on your way to the Dublin House, simply follow the bright neon harp blinking invitingly from afar. This extremely old pub is located just steps from nearby Museum of Natural History and Central Park. The original wood veneer detail is a nice touch and adds to the pub's allure. The Guinness is cheap and always poured to perfection by the old Irish bar tenders. This is a good start off bar for a night of drinking. Have a few here and then move on. Stay away from this place on St. Patrick's Day...it is an overcrowded mess of amateurs.

Sometimes I like being the youngest person at an old person bar. Other time, like at the Dublin House, I don't. Especially when the place smells like old man sweater. I'm adding a star because I would *totally* take my papa here.

1921. A speakeasy of days gone by. Red leatherette booths. Brass art deco decor and a phone booth with a PHONE in it (albeit push button). A proper Guinness pint and a 40 foot mahogany bar. Neon sign buzzs in a comforting way, as if it will never go dark. A sad crowd one might say; men hunched over, periodically glancing at the five widescreen tvs. Don't skip Dublin House. History is hard to come by and there is plenty to be found in this wood paneled haunt.
