Exciting Restaurants to Try in San Jose 2025 | Eater

"With four locations in San Jose, this no-frills takeout joint beloved for bánh mì is easy to find. However, you’re also likely to find a line, no matter which location you choose. Here, a crusty French baguette cradles either pork belly, meatballs, pork floss, or 15 other sandwich fillings layered with pickled vegetables that add vinegary punch and crunch. There’s even the option to create your own bánh mì. Whatever you order, trust that the long line is well worth the wait." - Christina Marie Mueller

Google
The line was out the door on thanks giving which is a good sign that the food is worth the wait. I got the Banh mi thit nuong, a Banh mi pork belly, a ice coffee, 4 rolls and 2 pandan waffles. The Banh mi was great and so were the rolls. The waffles were ok but others in my group loved them. The price is a bit of a killer though especially when converting to AUD. $69 Aussie dollars is steep to say the least. It was worth a try but I won’t be back.

First timer, I ordered ahead for pick up. I walked in there was one line, didnt see no sign for pick up orders, so I went up to the cashier and asked where do I pick up online orders, idk if she didnt hear me but repeated myself and she rudely said just stand there so I was like ok. 3min later she waves a young girl, im assuming to help me she approaches me very nice told her my name gives me my order, I go to my car I open it, immediately notice no garlic spread,my order was a small cold combo with butter parsley spread, extra pate, extra daikons and carrots, so went back cause i mean come on we pay extra, as im walking back I notice there was a window for pick up orders not sure why the cashier didnt mention that instead had me just stand there, go to the window she apologizes I was thinking they were going to re make it but no she takes it back goes to the kitchen, brings me the same sanwhich with the spread! And it was cold not even toasted like what?? So imagine how butter gets when its cold yes! So at this point I was like what ever then I see no extra pate nor daikons with carrots, very disappointed, I really tried to like this place base on the hype but nope, maybe ill try again another day or a different location.

Google
Don’t get me wrong. The food here was flavorful and delicious. Much better than the “Lee sandwich”. But the wait was LONG, long and very long! The bread is fresh, packed with protein of your choice and pickled veggies, cilantro, and jalapeños. My order was taken at 10:03 and my number was call at 10:48. 45 minutes of wait on the Saturday morning for two sandwiches. I will call next time or don’t come on the weekend

Google
The best banh I have had! Bread is baked fresh. Their grilled pork and grilled beef was so tender and delicious. They have a small($4-$6) and large($8-$11) size. There is no place to sit and eat just to go. You order inside and pickup outside at the window. Definitely, must try if you are in the area!

Google
It boggles my mind that there are two restaurants next door to each other serving Banh Mi, and yet the lines are constantly long. The Banh Mi Baguette was fresh, crisp, and toasty, I liked the texture. The Bun Cuon, was delicious, full of ground pork, and the sauce was enough till the last bite. Very fresh, and reasonably priced. I had to get the yogurt, so refreshing and not too sweet, just delicious

GiJoe J

Google
The sandwich are good. I wish the veggies in the sandwiches are more pickled which makes it authentic. I recommend the spicy Korean if you want to deviate from the typical Vietnamese cold cut combo or pork sausage (chả lụa). The two San Jose locations are basically the same while the Sacramento location does not have the same sandwich options. Depending on day and time, could be a long line for ordering/pick up...can take up to 30 minutes wait.

Chris

Google
Really good sandwiches, and iced coffee, prices are good too. They have the buy four sandwiches get the fifth free, deal. Be careful when you go, or order ahead of time, because the wait could be long, they get really busy sometimes. Their sandwiches are stuffed really well and their bread is crunchy and delicious.

Google
Delicious banquet bread, filling w/ fresh veggies. Buy 4 sandwiches, get 1 free. Good selection of snacks, fresh yogurt & iced coffee. Take out only.

Yelp
I don't know why I haven't done a review here after the countless times I've been here. It's been 20 years since I've moved from sj and still find this as my number one when it comes to banh mi spots. It's a small place but it's mainly for to go. We've tried their grilled chicken, grilled beef, bbq pork, and pork belly. Made to order every time. Especially my extra cilantro. The service is always efficient. The quality is always fresh. My son loves the B4G1 cause he knows he has a sandwich for later. There's sometimes a wait. But can't blame them when they're busy with order after order. There hasn't been a time I've been there and there's always other people waiting for their order and still other customers arriving to order. Whether lunch or towards closing. Obviously, I'd come back when in the area.

Yelp
All Duc Huong locations are BUSY! Definitely call ahead if you can. They have a Buy 4, Get 1 Free Special, but you have to pay over the phone. I like to order the grilled pork or the Korean bbq, large! The small is for a tiny snack. This is a great option to take to the airport and enjoy at the gate because the crumbs are inevitable lol. You can ask for the veggies on the side so that the bread doesn't get soggy if you're not going to eat it right away. They get so many orders so you may have to wait a m bit but it's not too insane.
google avatar

Lina F.

Yelp
The banh mi here never disappoints! Duc Huong is always busy (for good reason), but their team is impressively fast--you'll have your sandwich in hand before you know it. Everything is fresh, flavorful, and consistent every time I come. Pro tip: Ask for the garlic bread upgrade on your banh mi. It's insanely good--crispy, garlicky, and takes the whole sandwich to another level. A definite must-try! If you're craving a solid banh mi and quick service, this spot should be on your list.

Yelp
Tasty sandwiches with a great deal of buy 4 get 1 free. The grilled pork and the cold cut are my typical go to for vietnamese sandwiches, both are very good here. The cold cut features a pate which is nice and creamy. The grilled pork is flavorful and tender, not overcooked or dry. It's very good. The grilled beef is so-so though, a bit drier than pork. The bread is fresh with a good crust. The garlic bread looks nice but doesn't add too much taste imo. The vietnamese coffee is super strong and delicious in flavor. You could probably dilute it at home and have more coffee to drink over some days lol. The pickled veggies could be more vinegary imo but still very refreshing and crunchy. Sometimes depending on the line it can take a while for your order to be called, but it's worth it. They also sell various other foods and drinks. The parking lot can be pretty busy.

Yelp
Hits the spot Heard good things about this place so had to try it out. This place is grab n go. Recommend calling in ahead if you can (you will need to give your credit card number). Our order took 30 minutes to be ready. We tried the cold cut combo and the grilled pork. The bread is crusty and filled with pickled radish/carrots. The cold cut combo was pretty lit - mixture of thick sliced cold cuts with a generous slather of pate. The grilled pork was warm and tender. My only qualm is that the mayo based sauce is sweeter than I like - should have asked for it in the side. $8 is a great price in this economy. Apparently if you buy 4, you get one free. Sadly I cannot eat that many, maybe will come back with more peeps in the future.

Yelp
Absolutely phenomenal sandwiches at a great price and great quality. I tried the spicy Korean pork for the first time after being a loyalist to the grilled pork. I absolutely loved it! The line moves pretty quickly especially given the abundance of people ordering. You order on line and pick up from a separate window outside. We waited about 25 minutes for our sandwiches on Sunday during lunch. They also offer to pack your veggies separately so you can heat the bread and meat separately and keep everything fresh! You can order via phone but have to give your card over phone!

Yelp
I was craving Vietnamese sandwiches and my brother in law recommended I stop by Duc Huong. You know it's a hot spot when there's people waiting in line at 2 pm. You order at the counter and all sandwiches are available in small or large. I wanted to try a variety so I got 3 small sandwiches, including the grilled pork, meatball, and cold cut. They are also known for their banana leaf ham. They offer a lot of Vietnamese treats in the case. It is takeout only and you pick up your order outside. They do take phone orders and the regulars seem to do this. It was about 20 minutes for my sandwiches. This is a casual lunch spot.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been here twice now and can confirm these are the best banh mi sandwiches I've had. I got the #1 grilled pork banh mi both times. First time I got the small and large the second time. Both are good sizes depending on how hungry you are but I prefer the large so I can have some for later if I don't finish. They get long lines on the weekends so order ahead of time on DoorDash for pick up to save time. I'd recommend ordering at least 20 minutes ahead of time. My wait has ranged from 20 to 30 minutes. When the app says your order is ready just go to the side and show the worker and they'll give you your food. As far as sandwiches go I think it was decently priced for what you get. I'll definitely come back.

Yelp
Unfortunately I had a bad experience this last time I went here. We ordered the cold cut and pork and egg sandwiches, but didn't actually get the cold cut or pork. Instead what we got was some kind of lunch meat and sausage. I get that they probably ran out of pork and cold cut, but a heads up would've been nice. The garlic bread is still delicious though :')

Yelp
Quality/Quantity - We are regular loyal customers here, at this location. Their other locations are not as good and not as organized or friendly. And if you are following, this sandwich saved me after eating my "vegan" meal at Banh Xeo Ngon... And of course, from a night of drinking. #12 Spicy Korean Pork. #17 Grilled beef. Dessert - Got the rainbow sticky rice dessert which was so good, but filling. Like eating a bowl of rice, lol. All the food was good. The sandwiches were fresh. Again, we are loyal regular customers. Atmosphere - Small to-go location. Plenty of mall parking. Service - Quick and friendly. Counter service, then you wait outside for them to call your # to pick up your order. Price - $34ishl; my wife paid. Owner Comment - Congrats on your 5 locations; keep up the good work.

Yelp
Love these sandwiches!! Really bomb. We come for breakfast. It gets busy on a weekend, but if you come on like a Monday, there's no one. We usually get the banh mi thit nuong with egg for breakfast sandwich. It's hearty, breakfasty and lots of protein. We also love getting the dac biet, Vietnamese cold cut special. It's so good. They don't have the food items on the counter right away. We came and the vendors started coming and putting out their food. We got spring rolls, sticky rice with Chinese sausage, and Nem chua. I like the original location but line there is long and a lot smaller. This location is closer to my friend's house. The staff here are definitely the typical OG no service, no smile, straight forward Viets. Just don't take it seriously and get your banh mi and be on your way!

Yelp
The hubby was craving bánh mì today, so we headed over to this spot. Even before we parked, we noticed a long line outside--always a good sign! Turns out it wasn't quite as long as it looked; most people were just waiting on their orders. They've got a pretty efficient setup where you order and pick up from a side window outside, so the inside doesn't get packed. We ordered two #2s (Cold Cut Combo) with extra pâté (+$0.75 each) and one #13 (Pork Belly). The sandwiches are small but surprisingly filling--and only $4.00! A total steal. While we waited, I wandered over to 111 Bakery next door to browse. They also sell bánh mì and baked goods, so we grabbed one just to compare (it was cheaper $3.50 cash), but honestly--this spot wins hands down. The flavor, the bread, the balance of ingredients--everything was just better. Our daughter especially loved the pork belly--juicy, flavorful, and not too fatty. Great value, delicious food, and worth the wait. That said, next time I might try calling in the order ahead of time to save a bit on the wait. Tip: Don't be discouraged by the line. It moves pretty fast, and it's worth it. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Called ahead to place my order for pickup. I was told 20 minutes. I recommend paying for the order through the phone or you'll have to pay in person and wait for your order to be made then. Once you arrive, they have a pickup window. If you order in person, you'll get a receipt and they'll call your number. With a phone order, you'll have to go up to the window and tell them your name and last 4 digits of your phone number. Be proactive with checking as they won't call your name out (at least when I went). For the sandwich, I got the large grilled pork with garlic bread. Amazing even though I left it in the fridge and toasted it back up a few hours later. Crunchy bread but great pork and veggies.
google avatar

Jason Q.

Yelp
Thus far the best banh mi sandwiches I have tried to date. From the first bite to the last bite, it was amazing. Bread was crispy on the outside and soft when in the inside. The meat was tender and juicy. The pickled veggies is very good and fresh. I recommend you order ahead like through the phone or DoorDash. There was a line out the door when I arrived. They have a bakery inside, but I was mainly outside do for pick up being through the window. Overall I give this place a 5/5 star review. Best banh mi I had to date and the service was quick. I arrived and my order was ready for me.
google avatar

Michelle V.

Yelp
Order ahead of time! It's better to order over the phone than Door Dash. They give you a free sandwich if you order a certain amount. Door Dash over charges too. There is no indoor seating. The line is always long. Therefore, order at least 30 minutes ahead of time. And yes the banh mi are AMAZING! You will Not be disappointed
google avatar

Xander C.

Yelp
my favorite banh mi place! their bread is fresh and crunchy, and the vegetables/pickles are crisp fresh and provide great contrast with the creaminess of the pate and meatiness of the filling. i like to go classy and order the combination as I feel like it's the purest version of a banh mi, but their other fillings are also great.
google avatar

SevLong L.

Yelp
This location is not as busy as the one at Story Rd. The variety of BanhMi is the same. #14 is my all time favorite. I have always wanted to try their yogurt but can't justify paying $3.50. Maybe one day I'll give it a try!
google avatar

Shirley F.

Yelp
Normally, a Bahn Mi is too large for me, but what has drawn my attention to this spot was they had MINI Bahn Mi's! Grilled Pork Bahn Mi + Garlic Butter - THIS. IS. THE. BEST Bahn Mi I ever had, NGL. Anyways, I definitely recommend y'all stopby when you're in the area with cash!
google avatar

Michelle K.

Yelp
I was craving some banh mi and nem chua and I happened to be in SJ and found this spot on Google Maps and omg Duc Huong....too good. The Banh mi's were unreal. The bread was so fresh, each sandwich was loaded with meat and veggies. I ordered #2 cold cut combo and #4 grilled chicken Nem chua: fermented pork - so yummy. Tangy, sweet, spicy, garlicky Service was pretty fast. Ordered at the front and then waited outside for my number to be called. This place is so good and I will definitely be going back.
google avatar

Emile T.

Yelp
Great banh mi! We ordered sandwiches and the waffle. Service is quick. The shop is small and tidy. The value is very good.
google avatar

Vanessa H.

Yelp
This is a must get in the bay. I come to visit every few months and this is one my list everytime. It is so simple yet amazing. Great ingredients and flavors and everything is just done super well from the bbq pork to the bread to the garlic bread it's a must. Easily a fan favorite. Though there may be a line sometimes, it goes by fast and worth it
google avatar

Jeannie N.

Yelp
Solid Banh mi spot in San Jose. The bread is crispy with decent amount of meat and the pickled veggies are fresh and crunchy. A bit on the pricey side for the size of the small and large sandwich. The Thit Nuong satisfied my Banh mi cravings.
google avatar

Justine V.

Yelp
Great Sandwiches, But Ease Up on the Tip Pressure This was my first time trying Duc Houng, and I have to say, the sandwiches were delicious and fresh definitely worth checking out if you're in the mood for some authentic flavors. I took advantage of their 4 large get 1 free deal, which was a fantastic value and perfect for stocking up. The portions were generous, and everything tasted spot on. That said, I didn't appreciate the cashier waving her tip can right after I paid for my sandwiches. It's my first visit, and I prefer to decide on tipping without the extra nudge. Its my choice, after all. Just a minor annoyance that kept it from being a full 5 stars. I'll probably go back, but hopefully they'll tone that down next time!
google avatar

Serina N.

Yelp
I ordered the #11 Chay/Vegetarian sandwich on DoorDash for pickup. I'm glad I preordered because there were about 15 people in line outside. This place is super popular, so plan ahead if you can! The sandwich was delicious. I made it vegan by removing the mayo and pâté. Although they didn't have a vegan sauce alternative, the filling was so flavorful that I didn't feel like I was missing anything. I do wish they added more vegetables; it seemed to be lacking compared to the sandwich next door.
google avatar

Dominic B.

Yelp
Might these be the best banh mi in the Bay? They are definitely one of the most popular. Came by in the late morning to pick up sandwiches before driving back up to the city. There was already a big line of people waiting to order and pick up. Ordering was actually the quick part and took about 10 min. You wait in line until you reach the counter, where you place your order and then have to wait until they call you. The menu is boldy on display above the counters so you can have plenty of time to decide what you want to eat. In addition to banh mi and bread, which is what they're known for, they also have other Vietnamese specialty dishes that you can just grab off the counter and pay for when you get to the register. For just two of us, we got 6 dac biet (cold cut combo) banh mi. We're never in South Bay so we needed enough for two days lol. We probably waited about 30 min after ordering before our sandwiches were ready but they were definitely worth it. There a perfect ratio of assorted cold cuts and the bread is so soft yet flakey. If you don't plan to eat right away, you can also ordered all the veggies on the side so they don't make your sandwich soggy. Paired with a Vietnamese coffee and it's the perfect lunch before an hour drive.
google avatar

Winston C.

Yelp
I came here on a Wednesday 11am and there were lines already forming to order and a crowd in front waiting for their food. Parking Lot in front of Duc Huong is a bit chaotic so I parked a bit further out to avoid the traffic. What causes this chaos is the cars parked illegally in front waiting for their orders which then narrows the amount of space for both lanes to pass. I ordered 5 banh mi's ( buy 4 get 1 free). $8 each. It took 15 minutes to wait for my food. The food itself is fresh and delicious. They have a wide variety if foods to try.
google avatar

Roxanne C.

Yelp
I always appreciate a solid vegetarian option at restaurants. I expected it to be tofu based because that's what's most common for banh mi, but here it's mushroom. Such good pricing, and a $0.75 charge to upgrade to garlic bread which is so worth it. Service was quick and the line isn't as long as the Story Rd location. Really enjoyed this banh mi!
google avatar

Cherry H.

Yelp
Our favorite bakery for banh mi. They also sell che, pandan waffle, iced coffee, nem chua, yogurt, and more. For sandwiches, order inside and pick up at the window outside.
google avatar

Austin W.

Yelp
I've heard a lot of hype about Duc Huong both on social media and my friends and I'm excited to have finally been able to try it out during my most recent visit to San Jose. I read on Yelp there could be a long wait if we came around lunch so we tried to order over the phone, but unfortunately, it was so loud on the other side we had an incredibly difficult time placing our order. We tried our best, but when we showed up, it didn't look like they had gotten our order. I chalk it up to being our fault, as many other people were able to place pick-up orders just fine while we were waiting for our sandwiches to be made. My wife got the large #2 -- the cold cut sandwich, and I got the large #7 -- grilled pork and egg, both on garlic bread for $0.50 extra per sandwich. The garlic bread is absolutely divine! Nowhere else has this ever been an option for a bahn mi sandwich, but it's such a decadent, delicious treat. Additionally, I saw that many people here were ordering veggies on the side -- presumably so their sandwiches wouldn't get soggy on the drive home. I'll definitely have to try out this pro-move next time I'm here grabbing sandwiches for a long drive home. The grilled pork in my sandwich was tender and well-marinated and paired perfectly with the fluffy egg. I honestly could eat this every day of the week, but this sandwich is easily pushing anywhere between 600 - 1000 calories. If you're ever in the area, you must stop by Duc Huong for their sandwiches. There's a buy four (large), get one special so if you can find a group to share that with, you're in for an amazing deal. Cash and card accepted.
google avatar

Mario B.

Yelp
Duc Huong, you're the only banh for mi. I guess I'll have to learn to share you though since there is always a line out the door! Looking for amazingly delicious, creatively nutritious, and prices so low that you'd think they're fictitious... Vietnamese sandwiches? You're in the right spot. This is the only baddie I want to bag. The bread is so crispy, the fillings so luscious, and the pickled veggies so fresh that I could have sworn they whispered "eat me"... and so I did. Again and again. This is a no frills place with simple decor and to the point. You order and get your sandwiches at the side and go. Whether you are rich or you're broke, they got you covered. Thanks for standing banh mi, Duc Huong.
google avatar

Jason A.

Yelp
Great Banh Mi sandwhiches in the bay! My favorite K sandwhiches! Highly recommended.
google avatar

Angela P.

Yelp
I would rate this 4.3/5 stars. Price is so affordable. Quality is good but not that "too good" to keep me stay in long line to wait for banh I'm here.
google avatar

Jason P.

Yelp
If you're a banh mi fan, Duc Huong is a must visit in the South Bay. Their in-house homemade bread is next level, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and the perfect base for their generously stuffed sandwiches. Every ingredient tastes fresh and high quality, from the seasoned meats to the fresh, crisp veggies. But the real game changer? Their garlic bread. Buttery, garlicky, and packed with flavor, it's a must try. They also have a special, buy 4 get 1 free and we for sure took advantage of that!
google avatar

Abigail Joy Y.

Yelp
I've tried Banh Mi in other places and it wasn't the best. I guess that's why I don't go out of my way to eat it. My co-worker told me about this place and I'm so glad she did! I came here a few times in a month since I first tried it! I came in early morning after my morning run and it's always packed but the service is pretty fast, everything is organized and the employees are very nice. You can also call ahead of time so you can just pick it up when you get there if you don't like waiting and they have a dedicated line for pick up. I ordered the #10 and #7 and both exceeded my expectations. The bread is fresh and crunchy, the veggies are well seasoned and meat is freshly cooked and the serving is perfect! It's worth a 15-20 min wait in my opinion. You can also ask to put your veggies on the side so you're able to reheat your bread. This is my go-to Banh Mi fix from now on!
google avatar

John G.

Yelp
The best bahn mi sandwich spot in San Jose! They have a few locations in San Jose! My goto-The grilled chicken bahn mi! It's truly so good! Taste so fresh! And great portion size! Fresh baked bread is so good! The smell is fantastic! Service is fast paced so be prepared to know what you are gonna order!
google avatar

Joseph R.

Yelp
Legit and tender Vietnamese sandwiches Parking can be a challenge and lines are pretty long because their food must be totally delicious. Highly recommend and worth the wait.
google avatar

Gerald L.

Yelp
Mi favorito of the Duc Huong locations. Why? There's more parting available here. The line isn't as long. The food is still delicious. There are other convenient stores nearby. I like the grilled pork and grilled chicken bahn mi the most. Made on individual soft baguette bread. A good amount of veggies and a nice spicy flavor from the sliced jalapeños.
google avatar

Mark F.

Yelp
These are hands down the best banh mi you can get. The bread is bakery fresh and the ingredients are all high quality. The small sandwich is a meal for just about any appetite but if your really hungry, go for the large! If you buy 4 large you get one free, I just wish they had a deal on the small sandwiches as we usually buy 9 of them! The Dac Biet (#2) is awesome! It has 3 different cold cuts as well as pate and all the fixings. I also love the Xa Xiu (#4?) and the #8 is sooo good. Try them all! There ALWAYS a line out the door but it moves pretty quick. Be prepared to spend 15-20 minutes waiting for your order but it's totally worth it!
google avatar

joey t.

Yelp
Buy 4 large sandwiches and get the 5th for free. $8 for a large sandwich I mean it's cheaper than Subway so can't beat the deal. Would give it 5 stars except for the service, but it's a to go place and they have a consistent line out the door so what do you expect? My go-to is the #1 Grilled Pork. Grilled chicken is also bomb.
google avatar

Jasmin S.

Yelp
This is the third time I order delivery from this spot. So far I have tried the pork sandwich(once), and chicken sandwich (twice). Plus, their iced coffee. These mini sandwiches are delicious with plenty of flavor, meat, and veggies. The bread tastes fresh and they arrive in a plastic wrap. The quality of the sandwiches has been the same all three times. The mini sandwiches are perfect for lunch and I don't feel stuffed after I eat them. They make the food upon order and it is easy to choose a sandwich.
google avatar

Brian T.

Yelp
My go to spot for Vietnamese sandwich! I usually get the "dac biet" special sandwich that has the Vietnamese cold cuts. Adding garlic bread is also a nice add on. The bread is warm, soft, and has a good crispy outer layer. The sandwich is always filled with meat with a good amount of butter and pate. They are usually busy but you order in the store and pick up outside from the small window they have. The have a buy 4 get 1 free large sandwiches which is perfect for friends and family.
google avatar

Kaelin N.

Yelp
First time at this location and it's so much more peaceful... There's actually parking and the line doesn't take 20 minutes to order. While the Large sandwiches are a good size and packed with meat for the combo, I think it lacks flavor. Good for the price, but bland and not giving. The pickled daikon and carrots aren't pickled enough either. FYI the buy 4 get 1 free is a good deal!
google avatar

Connie M.

Yelp
Tasty and gets the job done. I prefer my usual grilled pork or dat biet, I get it on garlic bread and for some reason I felt like this location gives less meat and the filling and garlic bread is less fragrant and flavorful. It wasn't bad by any means but also isn't the same as the ones produced at the Story location. The one perk though is the lines here are shorter and the store is more spacious than the other location and there's more parking too.

Yelp
Banh Mi's are a nice, affordable rolled-up meal, but the service is very minimal/nonexistent. Be prepared to wait for a looonnngggggg time. Also, check your receipts! Customer Service: There's pretty much none. You order at the counter, pay, then go wait outside for an eternity for your order to be finished. One time, I waited one hour to get 4 sandwiches in the blazing sun because there really is not shade in-front of the shop. Some cashiers are nice or at least efficient, but I have had a couple incidents where the cashier is super rude. Typically, the wait is about 30 minutes for 2 small sandwiches. Parking: There's a parking lot and lots of parking spaces, but this plaza is constantly busy. People also drive quite erratic. One time, I waited for a parking space, and then someone drove the wrong way and took my parking spot. When I told him I had been waiting for that spot, he yelled at me. Just drive slow and stay vigilant of dangerous drivers and unaware pedestrians. Pricing: Be careful with your receipt because it may not be accurate. They also charge if you use card (under a certain amount), but there's no signage and the cashier didn't mention anything to me. I noticed the charge and asked if I can switch to paying cash instead and she said no. I understand some businesses charge for card because of the transaction fee, but typically they will tell you (I think I was less than 10 cents away from the limit lol). There are also no prices marked on many of the items. Prices for everything has gone up, and of course it's the same here, although the price of a Banh Mi is quite worth it for a meal. It's pretty affordable and better than McDonald's. Food: The food is good, although I can't say I taste much of a difference from other Banh Mi places. That said, I'm not a big Banh Mi person. I like to ask for the vegetables/fillings on the side because I can never finish a whole sandwich in one go. I think there are some goodies here, like the Vietnamese honeycomb cake (banh bo), yogurt, and other things. Their baguettes sell out pretty often. No matter how early I go, I can sadly never get a fresh one. It's always been cold of me. Sandwiches come in small (hand length) and large size (about a footlong). Atmosphere: it is chaotic lol come with patience; there is no seating. You get in line, order, and either you get your stuff then, or you go wait outside. There's a small window where they call out orders.

Yelp
Duc Huong is hands down my go-to spot for banh mi. The bread is baked fresh in-house, and you can really taste the difference--crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The sandwiches are always made to order, which keeps everything super fresh. My favorite is the #1 Banh Mi Thit Nuong (grilled pork) in the large size. It's packed with flavor and has that perfect balance of savory meat, creamy butter, fresh herbs, and crunchy pickled veggies. I recently picked some up for a road trip with friends down to Monterey, and even after an hour-long drive, the bread was still crunchy and delicious. The store itself is very casual and only for ordering to-go. Pro tip: If you're not eating the sandwich right away, ask for the pickled veggies on the side--it keeps the bread from getting soggy and preserves that perfect texture. Trade-offs: The wait time can be crazy long. I waited nearly 40 minutes for just three sandwiches, and they have you wait outside, rain or shine. Also, parking can be limited since it's right next to a busy supermarket and 24 24-hour fitness. That said, the banh mi here is still worth it. Have a try!

Yelp
I can't believe I haven't reviewed this spot yet! Solid 5/5--hands down the best banh mi in the area. We went on a Saturday at 3:30 pm, and there was already a line outside--that alone speaks volumes. The line moves quickly, so don't worry about waiting too long. It's a takeout-only place; you order, and they call your number when your food is ready. We ordered two large grilled pork sandwiches (#1) for $8-$9 each, and wow, they were incredible. We devoured them. Honestly, banh mi seems hard to perfect because I've tried it at other spots, and most just don't get the flavor right. But Duc Huong does. First, the bread is so soft compared to other places. My husband is really picky about bread that's too hard, and while Duc Huong's bread still slightly bothers the inside of his mouth, he'll actually eat their banh mi, which says a lot since he avoids it everywhere else. The sandwich isn't overly sweet, which I love, and it's packed with a generous amount of veggies. Every bite is the perfect balance of bread, pork, and veggies. Duc Huong, please open a location in San Mateo--I'm begging you!!

Yelp
I was so impressed with this banh mi! I've actually never had a banh mi that I liked before but this one from changed the game for me!! The meat was SO good and it had pate in it?? Idk if that's normal but it was a first for me! Not to be dramatic but this banh mi might be the best sandwich I've ever had???

Yelp
Ideally, I'd give it a 3.5/5 Duc Huong Sandwich is a popular spot in San Jose for a reason. The lines often extend outside the shop, so expect some wait time. One thing I appreciate is their display of photos for each sandwich, making it easy to choose. While you wait, you can also grab some light Vietnamese snacks to tide you over. I tried their #4 banh mi ga nuong, which was packed with all the classic fixins: cucumber, daikon, cilantro, and peppers. The peppers definitely added some heat, which I enjoyed. However, I found the sandwich to be a bit dry, possibly due to a lack of dressing. The prices at Duc Huong are very reasonable, and the large banh mi is incredibly filling. Parking can be a bit of a challenge in the area, but you should be able to find a spot eventually. Service is quick and efficient; you order at the counter and wait outside for your food. They'll call your order number when it's ready. One thing to note - There is a small surcharge if you are paying using your credit card. Overall, Duc Huong is a decent choice for Vietnamese sandwiches in San Jose. I've definitely had better Banh Mi in San Jose While the #4 banh mi was a bit lacking in flavor, the other aspects of the experience were positive. If you're looking for a satisfying and affordable meal, Duc Huong is definitely worth checking out.
