The Best Coffee Shops in Minneapolis and St. Paul | Eater Twin Cities

"What’s the biggest plus at Duck Duck Coffee: the Nesquik mocha or the Pac-Man game in the corner? This cozy South Minneapolis coffee shop is stuffed to the brim with plants, board games, and good vibes. (Owner Kat Naden always has work from local artists hanging on the walls, too.) Try the freshly baked chocolate chip cookies, nutmeg-laced miels, and chai lattes made with Assam tea and a bevy of fragrant spices." - Stacy Brooks

We LOVE 🦆🦆 Coffee! We live nearby, so this is our go-to place. Their mocha brings me back to my childhood, it feels so nostalgic. Their lattes are excellent, as are their house-made syrups (try the toasted marshmallow or vanilla brown sugar). Their chai latte is also great. My wife loves their americano. Really, you can't go wrong!!! The staff are all absolutely wonderful. The shop's aesthetic is eclectic in the best way. My favorite thing is the framed photo of Jadzia Dax from DS9 on the wall. They have old arcade games you can play! They also have a selection of cards and other games to play. And a little library of books to read while you're there! (Come to their book club at 6pm on the last Wednesday of the month!) Finally, they always have an art gallery going featuring a local artist! Right now my wife's art is up on the wall! 🦆🦆 is my favorite community space. We love to just hang out there. Come for the good coffee, stay for the good vibes. ❤️

Google
Nice cozy shop. I only got a cup of coffee so I can't attest to their wider selection of drinks. Service was good and reasonable seating.

Google
Loved stopping in here for the first time! Clearly very invested in the community. Small, but cozy. Music taste was excellent and staff were friendly and quick to take my order. Got a chai latte - very tasty!

Google
Super cute, eclectic coffee shop. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Prices are great and tax is included. Will definitely be back!

Google
Chill place. I stopped here to get some work done. Some of the ducks on their merch looked a bit blood thirsty, which was a little off-putting. The staff were very nice and I really cherished how it seems to be a cozy gathering spot for the community. Coffee was tasty.

Google
Great little coffee shop. Stop in for drinks or some food. Smallish place with great vibes. I think they do love music once in a while as we saw flyers for music but not sure how it works.

Google
Vegan bakery options, unique flavors for coffee drinks like maple, marshmallow and housemade vanilla and vanilla brown sugar! The decor is an absolute vibe and the staff are really friendly. Do you like to bring your dog with you everywhere?? Great news, Duck Duck allows puppers inside!!

Google
Clever theme, good coffee, nice shop, good swag. Left with a fun shirt and good taste from a cortado. DDC broke rule#1 which is please don’t serve massive cappuccinos, which they did with abandon. But they have some normal sized espresso drinks (very tasty btw) and that sorta countered the cappuccino situation. Nice neighborhood shop. Almost on the corner😎

Yelp
I'm always hoping to like a small business, but I wasn't a big fan of this place. My coffee was fine, my friend's coffee was really not very good. The service was fine, but they have the grinder right next to the register which made it really loud. Aesthetically, the place felt pretty cluttered (and I'm a fan of maximalist designs!) and I found the menu hard to read/follow. I'd maybe stop by if I was in the neighborhood again to try something non-coffee, but overall this was a miss for me. A pro: they have lots of vegan treats and a gf kitchen sink cookie that was pretty solid!

Yelp
VIBE Garage-sale chic. Books, vintage arcade games (Arkanoid, anyone?!), plants. Lots of whimsy here. Plenty of seating, although the tables outside were on a very uneven sidewalk so we sat inside instead. SERVICE The staff seemed stressed. They were nice enough, but I could sense they didn't love being there. That always makes me sad. COFFEE Okay now. I had a regular old drip coffee that was probably the best cup of coffee I had in MLPS, and I had some GOOD coffee there. The barista (who subliminally oozed hating their job) told me it was their Nicaragua roast. Damn, it was tasty. GET THIS. FOOD All 3 of us ordered the egg sandwich on a cheddar biscuit. This was a mistake. DO NOT get this. It was very greasy, and the pre-made egg rectangle thingy drooped over the biscuit in an unappealing way. We all had some digestion issues afterwards requiring all manner of antacids. Luckily there's a Target on every corner here, so you're good.

Yelp
Stopped by on a work trip before heading to the airport at the urging of some local friends. Glad i did! Fantastic coffee and such a cool vibe. Staff was friendly, coffee on point, and all around a place I'll visit again on my next trip in.

Yelp
I got an iced vanilla latte! Masks are still required in this store. Parking: there is free street parking available. Overall a great experience. But there is not a ton of indoor seating available and I wish they were open longer on the weekends.

Yelp
A chill, cozy quirky spot! Came in for a coffee break on a Wednesday late morning. The place was quiet, two people chatting at a table, another two working on laptops. The decor is fantastic. Quirky without being pretentious or overwhelming. They were totally in the Halloween spirit!! The barista was friendly, not too chatty (ya know what I mean!) and kind. I got my barometer for a good cafe- Americano black. A solid cup. I'm sure the more involved drinks are great too but maybe for next time. They have some food- little bites of baked goods, which is a relief from most coffee shops that have massive pastries. A few savory items too. Not a place for a big brekkie but for sure a place to take a breath and caffeinate! Also a small free pile of jars under the community board table. Yes! Love.

Yelp
The coffee was nice and fresh. The service was perfect. The ambiance is so unexpected - whimsical, light, inviting. I think it's going to be my new hangout on my one coffeehouse morning a week. I didn't get anything to eat, but there are some good options. Next time I'm going to try to score a table outside. The coffee was nice and fresh. The service was perfect. Yelp
The iced chai was perfectly spiced, and the spinach dip sandwich was very filling! Service was quick. Very nice atmosphere and aesthetic with Classic Simpsons as the finishing touch. Plenty to do too with two arcade machines and board games. Will stop here again next time I visit Minneapolis!

Yelp
Drinks - 5 I had the miel latte. Perfect blend of subtle sweetness and spices. Reminded me of a snickerdoodle cookie. Service - 5 really appreciated the barista. I'd ordered a decaf miel latte w oat milk and she truly took it to heart. She confirmed when I ordered. She confirmed when she made it n she also wrote it on my cup. Truly an empathetic human being who understood dietary restrictions. Thank you. Ambiance - 5 love that they stood for something. Loved that they supported the local community. Loved the eclectic comfiness. Great merch. Only complaint - you need the duck duck coffee tshirt in a hoodie :) Accessibility - 5 easy to find parking. No snowbanks to climb over. No I've to slide on.

Yelp
Cute little place. Lots of bright sunlight. There is one arcade game next to the bathroom, I thought it was pretty cool to have one at a coffee shop. I ordered matcha and wished they had put it in a mug or something, instead of a tall glass. It was kinda hot. Their vegan cinnamon roll was very good. The barista was super nice and friendly, too. I would definitely come back and support this place.

Yelp
Very cool place. Eclectic deco, comfy seating to work and meet friends and delicious coffee to start my day. Love the vibe and music. It's quite small but plenty of seating as it's not usually too busy. The staff is friendly and chatty. Bathrooms are clean and it's not too difficult to find parking on the street. I like how they have food options too. Yogurt, sandwiches and hummus are a couple of the choices. I love coming to this place when I'm in the area!

Yelp
I've fallen in love with Duck Duck coffee since it has opened up! I love the neighborhood feel (and walking distance to me). Great coffee, treats and tons of great sun light! Not uncommon to see the whole family to stop in together for a cafe and snack. Has a bit of a scandinavian vibe at times too!

Meghan S.

Yelp
Small coffee shop with great lattes and free WiFi! Free street parking is available as well! It's a great place to study but there isn't a ton of seating so it may be hard to find a spot on a busy day!

Yelp
I had ventured into this café before it was officially Duck Duck Coffee (I can't recall the name of the original café), but it had a bougie/west coast/stuck up kind of feel to it. Months later, Duck Duck Coffee opened in the same space and I am loving it! Duck Duck Coffee has a way more friendly, relaxed and eclectic vibe. Feels much more South Minneapolis now! I love all the colorful artwork and plants in the café. And their coffee (I've bought their actual beans and then the cold brew) is so delicious and quality. Duck Duck Coffee has some outdoor seating, but you could always take your coffee to the nearby parks. It is also conveniently located in a cute neighborhood next to awesome small businesses like, Groovy's Vintage, Everett's Butcher Shop, and Milkjam. My one recommendation would be to offer more gluten free baked goods... I would totally buy with my cup of coffee!

Yelp
Nothing special, just a nice little coffee shop with a couple of outdoor tables or you can enjoy your coffee in the nice weather.

Yelp
Duck Duck Coffee is a fantastic place. Unique place. Pretty much every menu item that we have purchased was extra fresh and tasty. Workers are extremely courteous. They're attentive, polite and always on their game. So pleased I gave Duck Duck Coffee a try.

Yelp
We love Duck Duck! Good coffee. Down-to-earth approach. Just a great neighborhood spot. I love the old school video games and the monsters amidst the greenery on the walls. I don't think I've tried much of the food. It's seemed pretty simple, but I'm always there for the coffee and hangs...
