The Manhattan Bar Directory

"Ridiculously low prices (as in $3-4 drafts and $8 pitchers) are the big draw at The Duck. The bartenders will make you popcorn if you’re nice." - katherine lewin, hillary reinsberg

This was my first visitand I was glad to see the noise level wasn't over the top. However the sound system is, when you play the jukebox get ready for some good sound and it's linked to TouchTunes app thankfully. There are approximately six or seven TV'S. A multitude of beers on tap. The bartender Jimmy is an awesome guy and you can tell he cares about your experience there, he also mixes a good drink. Clientele are quiet, not rowdy, and best of all the prices are right! Highly recommend!

Some of the other reviews on this page make me smile. Opinions about this Mamaroneck institution are as strong and mixed as their cocktails, but as various bars open and close all around it, this place stays true to itself. It's a neighborhood dive bar of the sort that are ubiquitous in my native Wisconsin, but rare gems in the NYC metro. Craft cocktails and small batch IPAs will not be found here, but simple mixed drinks and domestic drafts are always on hand. Darts and a few other bar games are cheap or free, and the beautiful original window storefront opens up wide to let the warm air in on summer nights. I have had some great memories here and it always feels like a sip of home.

We were there in early April in 2013 on a Saturday night. The young lady bartender with dark hair, seemed more interested in talking than serving me and my group. And if we were able to get our orders in she had too much trouble getting it correct. We had to leave when it became only moderately busy. It was too much for her to keep up with the clienteles orders.

While sitting at the bar here one evening, an extremely offensive anti-homosexual song was played (entitled "That S*** Ain't Right). As I looked to see which small-minded individual had played such music, it turned out to be the owner himself. I asked if he had played it and he affirmed my suspicion. I asked if he could skip the song as I found it inappropriate and distasteful. I was told that I was being ignorant and that the owner could play whatever music he wanted in his bar. Of course he can. He can play any music he wants and deny service to whomever he pleases. I understand that other people have different beliefs than I do. However, as a patron of this establishment, I was asking the owner that he not make me feel uncomfortable and simply pass on to the next track. I was asking the owner himself to not be forced to listen to anti-homosexual propaganda as I enjoyed a drink in his bar. I was then told that if I don't like it, I can leave. The owner looked right at me, and shook his head in definitive agreement. I am not contesting the bar owner's rights to do what he did. My point in sharing this is to make others aware of how I was treated at this place. I find the owner to be quite disrespectful, as he is clearly more interested in his right to play offensive music at his own bar than catering to his customers. He purposely created a hostile environment. And finally, he made the clear implication that his bar was not friendly to the homosexual community or those who support them.

Ahhh, the Duck Inn... Talk about the sweetest little bar in town where you can still chill out to tunes on a Juke Box, grab a brew. Paul, the owner, is very nice and doesn't hesitate to make sure you are feeling at home and has a story or two to share. It's a great bar where the "Pour" is respectable and the price tag is very reasonable. It's like a Mamaroneck "Cheers". So, if you're in the Mamaroneck area and just want to get away... don't forget to "Duck Inn".

Yelp
Thank you, Rosie! We met just tonight but she spoke to me like an old friend. I had some very terrible news earlier today, and she provided comfort and advice. I absolutely will be back! One con though: fruit flies in the bathroom.

Yelp
Love the Duck Inn! Shivani is always welcoming and is an awesome bartender. She loves music so we always have a good playlist on. My favorite hang out spot. Thanks, Shivani!

Yelp
Decided to stop at this bar for a few drinks. . . Quickly switched my mind over to beers as I found the place a lil gross right off the bat. The Bartender seemed cracked out on some type of drugs. . . Top to it off the bathroom had cockroaches in it. Seemed like a cool Irish pub but def won't be back.

Yelp
first time bartender was a drunk old guy. made everyone uncomfortable lol. so I give 1 star for that time lol second time bartender was a hot girl lmao. easy on the eyes for sure. 5 stars. average out the score for the old guy and the cute little redhead and you get 4 stars.

Yelp
Shivani is the best bartender and human on the planet. Come see her any day after 7pm!!!

Yelp
This is the quintessential fun bar in a great location. I love live music and they have some great performances. Drinks are made just the way I like em because my favorite bartender, Shivani is amazing! Not only is she efficient but she is engaging and warm. Would go back just to chat with her. She makes all feel welcome. See a performance here for sure

Yelp
I've seen the other Yelp reviews. Meh. Just to be clear, this is a drinking bar. No fancy cocktails, per se. They have darts and a jukebox and a few TVs. Randomly, they have live music nights. Better check. It's not a restaurant; the food is "bar food," good in a pinch, or to tide you over, but not a main attraction. Mamaroneck has many good and less good eating spots. THIS is a drinking spot. DON'T go there if you want to eyeball college girls, if you want to meet Mr. Right, nor if you seek a crowded, noisy party frat bar. DO go if you like a draft beer or three, and a bit of sometimes off-kilter conversation with local regulars, while enjoying a great view of the Harbor. (Alright, not such a spectacular view, but it has proximity.) ALSO, DO go if you aren't turned off by people you might place in some other class than you. I have talked to a full-spectrum-rainbow of folks who are regulars, just FYI. As a bonus, it's a good family-friendly meeting spot for folks going to a show at the Emelin Theatre, which is directly up the street, for preloading or for warm and safe waiting haven. I wish one would sponsor the other! Hey. It's simple. You can go to McDonald's or go to Bob's Burgers. This is Bob's. Plus they have Guinness!

Yelp
OMG!!!! Worst drink I have ever had. I ordered a vodka soda and it tasted like burning plastic. So sad, I wish I had read the reviews before I came here but I live right around the corner, figured this would be a great stop. NOPE. 3 people there seemed like every day'ers..... maybe lived inside the bar. Damn man, I was hoping this place would be at least OK.... not even close. Stomach still hurts.

Yelp
Weird dive bar, so much potential with its location, but the duck theme is overkill, the owner is usually drunk, and the prices/vibe isn't all too great. Would not recommend

Yelp
This 'dive bar' is awesome!!! The owner Jack is a great guy who knows how to make a bar home. The food is great and this place knows how to make a big time bar into a home place. If you come here appreciate ducks and Gaelic. Jokes and smiles bring tips to a new level. In the end walk through these doors with a thirst and an appetite.

Yelp
This is your classic dive bar. Nothing fancy, has a relaxed atmosphere, and strong (and cheap!) drinks. Every town needs at least one dive bar and this is Mamaroneck's. Did not try the food so cannot comment on that. ...could use a foosball table!

Yelp
Pure Americana. Any place that is smart enough to honor our freedoms in this country is good for me

Yelp
