Where to Eat on Old South Pearl Street | Eater Denver

"Launched from a pushcart on 16th Street Mall, since 1986, The Duffeyroll Cafe has long been both a landmark and a social center in the Mile High City. This place was made famous by a monstrously large gourmet cinnamon roll." - Gigi Sukin

Google
Coffee shop with selection of pastries/rolls in various flavors and their own oatmeal brand. They also have breakfast & lunch sandwiches. The drip coffee was very good. My favorite rolls are the Zesty Orange and the Raspberry Lemon. Service was fast and friendly; I felt welcomed here. The space is pretty large and there is outside seating in a patio area. They do have password protected Wi-Fi available for guests. It was pretty quiet here. Parking is limited and can be difficult. I was lucky to find a nearby spot.

This café and bakery is an absolute gem! The bread is always fresh, soft, and full of natural flavor—you can really taste the care that goes into it. The coffee is rich, aromatic, and perfectly balanced. Pairing it with a flaky croissant or a warm cinnamon roll is pure bliss. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, and the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. Whether you’re grabbing a quiet cup alone or meeting friends, this place is a perfect spot. Highly recommended!

I still like a good Duffyroll every now and then. I've been to most of their locations and this one does disappoint. Their breakfast sandwiches are good. Do I wish I could sub the scrambled eggs for real eggs (to avoid dairy) yes, but I've been asking for years off and on and they don't do it.

Google
First time eating at DuffyRoll and it was a great experience! Brea was fantastic—so friendly and helpful. My steak and eggs burrito was delicious, and Penelope’s pesto sandwich was excellent. The corner location is quiet and cozy—perfect for a relaxed meal. I’ll definitely be back!

Google
This was an accidental find that I will visit on purpose from now on. The sweet rolls amazing. The bacon roll Oh. My. Gawd. Get it. The cyst was crips and flaky. Bit soft and tasty in the center. Also get the orange roll. You will not regret making the trip to. Get a Duffeyroll.

Google
This place was great for breakfast along South Pearl. Decided to check this place out since it looked really good, and it was definitely worth the try. The Snappy Sausage Sandwich was so good and get one of their DuffeyRoll‘s. They were absolutely amazing. Hot Chocolate was good and hot. The staff were also very friendly. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and plenty of bakery and breakfast items. It’s worth checking out!

Google
Beautiful place with delicious breakfast foods. They also do lunch, etc. We stopped here for a cinnamon roll this morning. They have lovely varieties, even savory kinds! I tried a breakfast sandwich, and she got a couple of rolls to try. Mine came with a mini duffeyroll, and I chose the lemon one. She picked the bacon and a blueberry kind. She enjoyed the bacon roll so much. My sandwich was very soft. I enjoyed my mini roll most! We're going back for these!

Google
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 – Megan Makes Duffy Roll a Standout Experience! If you're stopping by Duffy Roll and don't interact with Megan, you're missing out on one of the best parts of the visit. Megan isn’t just a cashier or a baker—she’s the heart and soul behind the counter. Every time I walk in, she greets customers with a warmth and genuine kindness that feels increasingly rare these days. Beyond her incredible customer service, Megan clearly takes pride in the quality of what’s coming out of the kitchen. The rolls are always perfectly baked, fresh, and served with a smile. She’s lightning-fast during a rush, but never loses her friendly, approachable demeanor. It’s honestly impressive to watch her balance efficiency and hospitality so effortlessly. Whether you're a regular or it's your first visit, Megan makes you feel like you're right at home. Her positive energy and attention to detail elevate the whole Duffy Roll experience. Give that woman a raise—she’s a total gem!!

Yelp
I like the music! Not sure what some of the other patrons think of Chemical Brothers or classics from LCD Sound System at 8:00 AM but I like the jams! I like the snappin sausage sandwich, but I don't feel like eating warm tomatoes this time of day so I get it veggie free. The bread is so soft and chewy and the eggs are light and fluffy.

Yelp
Came here Saturday about 10:50 am, not realizing how long the line was. Waited about 20-30 mins to get my half dozen duffeyrolls. They were understaff so I'm not going to give this place a hard time with the wait. They were busting butt with orders and I was not in a hurry to anything. The place is decent size, casual, and nicely decorated with customer photos along the walls. For my half dozen, I got a bacon and cheddar, blueberry cobbler, original, English toffee, Irish cream, and maple. Overall, I think the duffeyrolls were okay. I like them better than a donut and a cinnamon roll. They are not as sweet and perfect in that sense of sweetness. I'd come back again, but they were not out of this world where I'd be craving for one the next day. This place is definitely worth a try outside of your typical donut shop.

Yelp
service was amazing! came in an hour before close, staff was smiling, very friendly, and enthusiastic. very delicious as well! :)

Yelp
Cute and clean bakery. Not so busy on a Sunday around noon. We tried many flavors. I would say the veggie roll and the peach cobbler were my favorite. The mini treats were also very good. Not too sweet and the dough is fluffy and so yummy. Service was overall ok and very quick. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
My personal trainer poo pooed Duffy rolls! I should've known better as this from a man with 0% bad fat and thinks Paleo is just peachy. Great Trainer poor sugar rush Sherpa Duffeyrolls are delicious. Loved the classic, orange and English toffee. Pretty Light and buttery We took a bunch of minis home for Christmas brunch. Cute location great service Keto pissssahhh

Yelp
We've been wanting to try this place for a while and finally did. The service is really good, just wished I enjoyed the rolls more. We had a combination of sweet and savoury, texture was ok, a bit too sweet for my pallet, even the savoury ones were on the sweet side. I think they have deals after a certain hour so the options were a bit limited when we got there.
google avatar

Vincent S.

Yelp
I finally had the chance to come here. The hype is not all that. My Duffeyroll was dry and unimpressive. The water was out and never refilled. The service was great. Very quick and professional. No problems there. I will say that I had the Peach Cobbler. It was so moist and flavorful. I think because it was still in the paper cup. It had a nice crunch to it and wasn't overly sweet. Just right. They did that right. The place is old and aesthetically fits in the community. Definitely fits the vibe. Overall, my experience of the actual Duffeyroll was not good. The peach cobbler saved the day. I won't be coming back.

Yelp
Always great service and excellent food! Greeted every time I visit here with friendly staff!

Yelp
Whether you are looking for sweet or savory, The Duffeyroll Cafe is a great spot to grab breakfast/lunch. All the sandwiches come with a mini duffeyroll, the perfect sized sweet treat! Staff was very friendly and welcoming.

Molly S.

Yelp
Delicious. I love their sandwiches so much and you get a Duffey roll on the side. Tuna sandwhich is my fave.

Yelp
What a great find! We were killing time in Washington Park waiting to meet some friends when we stumbled upon The Duffey Roll. 2 cappuccinos, a peach Duffey and a Cinnamon Duffey Roll later we were in sugar heaven! The rolls are soft centered and crispy and delicious. I may never eat a doughnut again! The counter service was great! Helpful, friendly and seemed to like what she was doing! I'll definitely be back to try a savory Duffy Roll and another sweet roll for dessert.

Yelp
Coffee was delish! Staff was friendly and helpful . Food was wonderful! Looking forward to going back and trying other things in the menu!

Yelp
I just moved to CO from FL, and while driving around town, I noticed multiple Duffyroll Cafe's locations. I went their and bought the Snappy Sausage breakfast sandwich and it was absolutely delicious! The egg was so fluffy, the bread was so soft! The service was pleasant, and fast! Cute little cafe on a the corner, would definitely come back for more breakfast or try something off the lunch menu! Also, the Duffyroll in which they are known for, make sure you get one!
google avatar

Sierra S.

Yelp
I love their food! I gravitate towards savory food for breakfast and cannot rave enough about the Duffyroll's breakfast sandwiches, which come with a mini duffy roll. I've had all of their flavor varieties, the snappy sausage sandwich with an irish cream mini Duffeyroll - YUM! For the price, you cannot find a better to-go breakfast.
google avatar

Jasmine S.

Yelp
croissant meats cinnamon roll.. gosh! this place was such a find! staff was super friendly, food was all delicious! I tried the peppy turkey sandwich and it was 10/10. we also tried on of each mini rolls, me and my little agreed the Irish cream one was a must have!!
google avatar

Noah P.

Yelp
The Irish Cream Duffeyroll was a perfect little treat that was not overly sweet or rich but instead struck a great balance of being a treat, but not one that makes you feel sick to your stomach after eating like so many other sugary pastries
google avatar

Claire S.

Yelp
Stopped by the Duffeyroll Cafe for breakfast and had such a great breakfast sandwich. I really enjoyed that it came with a small Duffeyroll. I had the Bakin Sun Sandwich, 10/10

Yelp
I was craving cinnamon rolls and decided rather than tube cinnamon rolls, I'd give Duffeyroll a try. I'm kicking myself for not going here sooner!! The smell just entering the cafe is so cinnamon-filled your mouth will immediately start watering. We tried an assortment of rolls, Mountain Maple, English Toffee, Pecan, Original, blueberry cobbler (muffin), and orange. All of them were absolutely perfect. Crispy outside, soft middle. The dough is super light and fluffy so I wasn't immediately stuffed after eating a full duffeyroll, which was nice, and allowed me to eat three more. #sorrynotsorry. We opted for takeaway, but they do have a seating area and have some drinks available, so I'd highly recommend this place for a coffee date spot.

Mary O.

Yelp
Very good cinnamon rolls. I prefer the original but all are tasty. Thinking about having since shipped. They're that good!

Jeremy O.

Yelp
Stopped at this cool little cafe on the way back to Texas. The staff were really nice and friendly and the rolls were perfectly cooked. Will be stopping by the next time I'm in the area.

Carrie K.

Yelp
We picked up a dozen overpriced Duffy rolls at 8 am for $36 only to find out they were dry, not fresh, and inedible. No one was able to or wanted to eat them. Do not recommend. They were stale and old and unacceptable

Jessica W.

Yelp
loved the bacon maple duffy rolls i got after the Nuggets win. I love the pecan sticky rolls and the original plain ones also.

Yelp
First and absolutely important, the staff was warm and welcoming off the jump. Set the tone nicely for us, going to a place like this with the street crowd that it does and the expectations that come with it. Food checked out, we went the savory route ordering the ham and cheese and the bacon and cheese, and both were awesome. Allowing our curiosity to drive we tried an trio of mini dufferyrolls satisfying our sweet tooth without overdoing it. Irish cream and original were our favorite minis, plus you can order dipping flavors on the side to spice things up. Overall enjoyable, quick, low key and warm; things all neighborhood bakeries should be. Thanks Dufferyroll!

Yelp
I live in California and have a friend who moved to Denver a few years ago. It was her birthday today and I wanted to surprise her with some goodies. I was going to place an order on DoorDash and wanted to see if Duffey Rolls could add a little "Happy Birthday" note, so before placing my order, I contacted them and spoke to someone by the name of Ana-- She was super friendly over the phone and was happy to complete this special request once my DoorDash order was placed. While finalizing the order on DoorDash, I noticed that I had passed the cut off time and could not finish placing my order. I contacted Duffey Rolls again and told Ana to disregard my request and provided the reason. What happened next literally caused me to tear up. Ana told me that she can take the order over the phone and personally deliver the package of goodies to my friend-- I tried really hard not to cry over the phone, ha. I was so grateful; what's more, Ana made my friend's birthday special by going above and beyond. THANK YOU, ANA!

Yelp
Was on the way to another biz when I passed by The Duffeyroll Cafe. Growing up, we got duffeyrolls on the reg and I was eager for my husband to try one since he loves cinnamon rolls. But don't be fooled, this isn't your normal cinnamon roll! We found street parking nearby and popped in when indoor dining wasn't allowed. There was a line but people were being pretty respectful of distancing. We got an assortment of minis to try. My favorite has always been the Irish Cream but I tried my first savory ham one and that may be my new favorite when all is said and done. I see they also have a pizza flavor which is definitely calling my name the next time we're nearby... Duffeyrolls are flakier than your regular cinnamon rolls. I honestly prefer traditional cinnamon rolls to these but I find this place to be a Denver institution and a fun treat to have on hand for gatherings. The staff was friendly and we were in and out pretty quickly!

Yelp
Ah, the illustrious Duffeyroll. On my way to DU on the weekends, I've driven by countless times and wondered if these cinnamon rolls were any good. And I finally got the motivation to order some minis and take them to school for a Saturday morning treat. Yes, you can order ahead of time online. Or just stop in the store during regular biz hours and pick up whatever you want/need. Might I also add that in addition to already prepared rolls, they have frozen dough so you can bake at home? I got two dozen minis for about 10-15 people to sample. One box was the classic, the other was a sampler (2 of each flavor). Since we're in the times of COVID, we had to enjoy these sweet treats outside in 30-something degree weather. So it was cold. If I could enjoy inside while they are hot out of the oven, that would be much more ideal. But hey, one can't be picky when it comes to treats at school, right? I would note that they're on the drier side, more like the texture of a morning bun vs. the traditional ooey gooey cinnamon roll. The two dozen I brought to class were eaten within minutes so no complaints over here.

Yelp
They close at 3pm here, so of course, I always remember that I want to try some duffeyrolls right around 3:01. Needless to say, I never make it in and I am angry every time. One fateful day, I was in the city early and made it a point to roll on over and finally get in on these treats. They actually serve real meals in there, so feel free to come in for some breakfast or lunch sammies before your rolls. The cafe is large, plenty of seating available inside. Their glass case shows off some pretty fantastic hand-rolled duffeyrolls (basically cinnamon rolls, but I don't think I can really call them that). These rolls come in many flavors, many flavors, even savory ones. Their rolls come in two sizes: large and mini. I went with a variety of six large: two savory rolls (ham, Swiss, honey mustard and bacon, cheddar, and roasted tomato) and four sweet ones (Irish cream, pecan sticky bun, mountain maple, and zesty orange). Their buns are flaky and soft and the sweet flavors are just the right amount of sweetness - nothing that makes you feel like like you're about to overdose on sugar and/or 5,000 calories like those other famous rolls slathered with 5lbs of icing. It's all about the roll here and I'm not mad at it. Their savory ones are flavorful too and perfect for breakfast. Great rolls that are easy to eat and perfect to satisfy anyone's sweet tooth. Definitely worth a try.

Yelp
Good breakfast, great coffee. I think it's a local spot, I wandered in there to get some food...it's pretty cozy with a lot of people so I'll order To-Go next time.

Jackson S.

Yelp
Love this place! Have been going for years! Just now settled into the wash park area and go every weekend on my way to the farmers market! Great breakfast sandwiches and obviously great rolls.

John A.

Yelp
Stopped in while passing through Denver- Very Nice people and cool place. I see why they have good reviews
google avatar

Yelp
118th/2018 Yummy rolls in mini or regular with many different flavors. Gotta start with the original 1st and savor the flavor. Move on to other flavors or even pecan rolls. They also have freezer case filled with take and bake items. Parking at the front or around the corner. Few Sundays when they had farmers market on Pearl street, ended up parking behind the store. They have several patio seating and also plenty of seating inside. Don't forget to sign up to get frequent customer discount or even Yelp cashback!

Yelp
When you are sitting alone at a table, food is so much different. You're in the moment and notice every fine detail and relish each bite. Just you with amazing food. Today I think I had an out of body sanderience! Let me tell you how it happened. Duffy's has always been my goto for sweet rolls, but today I spent a few minutes with Veggie Roonie and it was time well spent. I ordered at the counter and the service was top notch so I put a good tip in the bucket. It took about 5 minutes and Natasha brought out the sandwich she had crafted. She always has a smile on her face and is so respectful to customers. She rocks it! The sandwich was warm and loaded with fresh ingredients (see picture). It was super amazing. The Duffeyroll that comes with the sandwich was the perfect dessert. I have no idea why this place isn't packed, but it is one of my favorite sandwich shops in Denver. My advice is to stop by to eat a sandwich or some Duffeyrolls or get them to go and walk to the park and make the people and the geese jealous of what you have in your hands!
google avatar

Blu M.

Yelp
Kind of random but I am quite picky about cinnamon rolls. I've tried different kinds and they always just seem to be too dense for me and they would harden quickly and not taste that good unless it was warm. Duffeyroll is really unique and so much more different than other cinnamon roll establishments because their cinnamon rolls are like a croissant hybrid, it has that flakey layers like a croissant and also that nice chew and cinnamon goodness that a cinnamon roll usually has. It's a really awesome concept and you can enjoy it without having it be warm. I'm definitely hooked on this place
google avatar

Hector B.

Yelp
Sweet morning! We tried several different rolls - sticky pecan, savory bacon, toffee and zesty orange! They were all wonderful. Our favorite was the bacon! Again, all were great but darn did that savory hit the spot! Latte was good. I had the Chai tea, which was enjoyable. Very friendly employees! We will return!

Anonymous D.

Yelp
I'll start with the best first- their rolls are really good. Sweet or savory, they are always good. It works for breakfast or brunch or just a get out of the house stop and snack. The worst: every visit here is frustrating. I don't know if everyone is perpetually stoned, or if nobody bothers to train the employees, but I don't come here nearly as often as I could because I know it's going to be slow and I'm going to end up annoyed at the end. You tell your order to the person behind the counter and then you say it again to the person ringing it up. They usually mess up the order and you have to say it again. Usually someone else is making drinks and they don't understand what is going on. Definitely need some training on the drink station. I don't recommend going here unless you have plenty of time. I was just complaining about this last weekend, and someone else walked out and they were complaining about the same thing. The breakfast sandwiches are a nice idea, but why do all of them have chipotle mayo on them? Some variety would be nice. Not everyone wants chipotle mayo on everything and I'm not even going to try to ask for a substitute, considering the problems I have with just a normal order (see above). Bottom line: good rolls, but this place is screaming for a menu revamp, a change of management, and some some staff training.

Yelp
Omg it's simply one of the most delicious cinnamon roll experiences I've (repeatedly) had. Never mind the details, folks. If you're in the market for outstanding a.m. sweets just go get 'em now.

Maureen M.

Yelp
Terrible. Ignored me in line long enough for a guy to haarrass me. Expect a 15% auto gratuity for bagging a pastrytgat was stale and one that was raw. Do not go. Aldo it was 8.50 fir the 2 before tip. So not worth it. Aweful.go to Costco and get 8 huge tasty Danish for same price.

Yelp
We were heading to another restaurant for lunch and passed by here. We turned around, checked yelp and decided this sounded like a good place. It was! I got the chicken salad sandwich and my husband got the turkey, bacon and avocado. The chicken salad was good but honestly, what made it was the bread; it was exceptional! My husband loved his sandwich! We took home a half dozen of the sticky rolls. Even though this is a bit of a drive to get here, we are planning to come back!

Zoriah M.

Yelp
I have heard about this place for years but never went in because I was trying to stay away fro sugar I there is one thing I learned over the past couple of years it is that we are all doomed. Weaponized Nuclear Monkey Death Flu will kill us all pretty flippin soon. Now I figure we will all be dead from Weaponized Nuclear Monkey Death Flu before we get fat... so might as well have a delicious bit of pastry here and there! The owner is gem of a human being.
google avatar

Lilly X.

Yelp
Attn Foodies: you have to stop by Duffeyroll! The breakfast sandwiches are delish! But they are most famous for those cinnamon rolls. I like that the rolls aren't drowning in icing - just sweet enough to enjoy with a cup of coffee. Staff are very friendly and I felt really welcome. Will def be back!
google avatar

Brena E.

Yelp
These rolls are sooooo good! I hadn't had them for years and when I recently tried them again, I had forgotten how much I liked them. I placed an order to pick up and the order confirmation said to wait for an email saying they were ready to pick them up. I never got that, so I called and the person answering the phone seemed to not be able to find it so got the manager. He told me to come in and it would be ready and it all worked out, but that was kind of a pain. However, when I arrived, they were about to close and were giving some away, so that was an unexpected surprise.
google avatar

Anthony W.

Yelp
The duffyrolls are both sweet and savory depending on your preference. I got one of each. Both were great tasting. Stop by and have one or more of these delicious rolls.

Yelp
I'm on the hunt for the perfect cinnamon roll and I have bookmarked Duffeyroll while back. After driving by several times this summer while en route to the farmers market on South Pearl, swinging in on my birthday weekend seemed like a great idea. There was a lot of street parking available before 9am so I was able to snag a spot right in front. I walked in and was surprised by how big it was and that people were eating things other than cinnamon rolls. But I only came for the rolls. I ordered at the counter which greets you with all kinds of rolls. Yes, the classic, but also Irish cream some other flavors that I can't recall and even some savory ones. I opted for a dozen original.m because i go big and have no self control. I was also having people over. Turned out to be somewhat overkill and nobody ate them. Oh well. I did. I grabbed a savory ham and cheese roll too, and an iced coffee. I was super into the savory roll. It was very crispy and flaky and packed with herbs and goodness. The classic duffeyroll wasn't my jam but this place is a staple and I'll need to come back and try other things. I also love that you get a mini roll with your orders. Nice touch.
google avatar

Khampha K.

Yelp
If you're looking for a great cinnamon roll this is the spot. The Duffey roll is not your traditional cinnamon roll, more along the lines of a cronut- crunchy on the outside, flakey and soft on the inside and bursting with flavor! They have many different option from savory to sweet! Pick up 1 or maybe pick up 20 dozen to satisfy everyone's sweet tooth!
google avatar

Claire R.

Yelp
One of our favorites! I love their breakfast sandwiches. The bread is so soft and savory and the ingredients are yummy. The duffyrolls themselves are great. I love the English toffee and original for sweet choices and the ham and mustard ones for the savory, so good. The outdoor patio is dog friendly. Some shaded and some unshaded. Great spot in the neighborhood.
google avatar

Janet V.

Yelp
I use to love Duffyroll when I worked in Denver. For the first-time in a year I stopped by yesterday. No more pop machine, the sandwiches are a LOT smaller now, and the roll itself was dry and flavorless. I will not be going there again, as most restaurants, this one has gone downhill.
google avatar

Allie R.

Yelp
I have always liked duffeyroll. Recently we stopped in for breakfast and I got the bacon egg and cheese wrap. It was awesome. They serve coda coffee, good stuff! Get a sampler of their mini rolls and you won't be disappointed. Nice atmosphere for a breakfast meeting, not overly crowded or loud on the weekends.
google avatar

Megan H.

Yelp
This place is not hiding their best menu item: the duffeyroll. Much like a cinnamon roll (if not one of the same) these sweet treats are seriously amazing. Soooo much butter flavor, plus cinnamon and sugar to make you go crazy. I ordered the Naked Nellie because I was starving, in need of protein, and saw that a mini roll comes along with the order! Unfortunately the Naked Nellie was not very good. Pretty bland, a bit rubbery, and a well under-ripened tomato. Also I for some reason thought it would be a breakfast bowl, but it was actually bread-less sandwich. But that rollll thooooo. I'll be back for those for sure. They also have a fridge of rolls to-go. I couldn't tell for sure, but it looked like family-style rolls that you would throw in the oven for breakfast at home! I think I'll grab a tray next time I have friends in town.

Steven M.

Yelp
I was visiting from out of town and stopped into the S. Pearl St. Duffeyroll Cafe at 3:30 with a friend. The cases were empty and we were to have no cinnamon rolls. One of the employees told me they close at 2:00. "Too bad," I said. As we walked out, a woman employee came running after us and handed us the box she had packed to take home. She wouldn't accept any payment. I was astounded by such great customer service and kindness. The different kinds of rolls were all delicious! The next time I'm in Denver, I will definitely be going back to the Duffeyroll Cafe! And tell my friends and family to go there.
