Where to Drink a Guinness in the Milwaukee Area This Winter | Eater

"The doors swing open every day at 11 a.m. at Dugout 54, unless there’s a local baseball game (then they open at 9 a.m.). Sip some Guinness while noshing on the locally beloved chicken tenders, or if you’re in the mood for something lighter, opt for the blackened salmon salad. On Saturdays, this bar gives away a free pull tab lottery game with every alcohol purchase during college football games, so don’t forget to stop by to watch the holiday bowl match-ups." - Jeanette Hurt

Dugout 54 is the perfect spot lunch, dinner or a quick bite before a ballgame and a shuttle ride to the ballpark. THE FOOD IS AWESOME!!! The pizza is thin crust and stellar, the wings, plentiful and fabulous, the burgers are a half-pound of lusciousness and the Friday Fish Fry is really great!. Pull tabs with your purchase of a cocktail on Saturdays. The best bartenders and wait staff always assure that you have a fantastic visit. A real gem in Milwaukee for food and camaraderie.

The bartenders are clearly used to the busy-ness before a Brewers game! They were welcoming and attentive despite the bar being packed. They have a great, varied beer list. We did not have any food on this visit but I'd be happy to return and try something to eat!

Google
Dugout 54, an excellent Wisconsin Sports Bar and Grill with fantastic food, awesome environment, with a super friendly staff! I had to get the chicken tenders, lotta reviews said they were the best in the city, I can agree they are so dang good! The super white, juicy chicken is fantastic and the beer battered breading was delicious! 9.2/10! I could imagine everything on the menu is great, will definitely come back here someday!

Kevin Connor

Google
Lisa was one of the best servers we’ve had in a long time. Super friendly and personable…fantastic food and great beer selection! Will definitely come back the next time we’re in Milwaukee!

Google
Great place to stop before a game at Am Fam Field. Get some good food, and have a few cocktails, then hop on the shuttle that will drop you off at the front door of the game. Friendly staff with good service. Can get busy on game day, but that is half the fun. A pep rally with a hundred other fans is perfect when you want to get in the spirit of an MLB game.

Google
Prices are reasonable and such a great location. You have good staff from what I can tell, and this was my first visit. Bartender was accommodating by splitting up a drink. I'd definitely come back! Thank you for the experience. 💜

The chicken wings are big, cooked just perfectly and delicious. The wait time for them was a problem though. I had to wait 15 to 20 minutes for something that should be delivered in 5 to 10 minutes. 9/27/22: Went back again for the chicken wings because theirs are the best in the area. The service time was much better. I got my order within 10 minutes. However, maybe due to them not updating their online menu, I was charged $17 instead of the $13 that the online menu shows. Just an FYI for people who may order the wings. 9/18/23: Went back for lunch and the chicken wings were substandard this time around. Maybe it has to do with the day chef being different from the night chef. The wings were dry and not as juicy as before. Probably won't go back for lunch but only after 5pm for Brewers game time.

Yelp
Great bar and restaurant to catch a few drinks and quick bite of food before any other Brewers games. They also have a complementary shuttle if you buy a drink there to take you to and from the game. Staff is always very friendly and attentive - shout out to Jesse, one of my coolest bartenders in the city. Their bar food and snacks are also really tasty. They've got a variety of beers on tap as well as in cans and bottles. It's always a good time at the Dugout whether it's game day or not.

Yelp
We came looking for the BEST chicken tenders in the city and that's exactly what we found. This is a classic bar in Wisconsin with classic bar food. They have TVs everywhere and even asked us what game we wanted to watch to change the TV too. We were first timers, sat ourselves at a table and received very quick and great service from Jesse. He got us our drinks, kept them filled and got everything out to us very quick. We heard the chicken tenders were good here but let me tell you why. First of all, you get 4 JUICY and large tenders with your order, we got 3 sauces on the side for dipping: ranch, Serrano and Thai chili. All were exceptional. We also added on a side of waffle fries which had a wonderful seasoning on them and paired great with the ranch. This place is officially our favorite chicken tenders in the city. They are large, juicy, coated in a light beer battered breading that is crisp and tasty. Absolute would recommend!

Yelp
Very noisy place and we were there on a day where there was not a game. Food is very generic. It is reasonably priced. I was served a brandy old fashioned that was made from a mix. It was served in half sized highball glass to the tune of 7.50. It looked like drink made for a midget. I won't be back.

Yelp
I've been here twice now. The first time we were with a group on our way to a Brewer game. We were seated in the back room as there were about 20 of us and we all ordered off the menu. Service was very good from the kitchen to the bar. And it was really sweet to walk out the door and get a private bus ride to the game. We caught a shuttle bust to get back. Easiest way we have ever traveled to a Brewer game and not sure why we did t do this years ago. The second time here was for a Lion Club meeting and the Club had ordered a tailgate menu for the members. It was $18 per person with all you can eat brats on pretzel bun, burgers with all the trimmings, baked beans and potato salad. Once again the food was very good. Looking forward to stopping in again when we go to Brewer games.

Yelp
Food comes fast and furious on game days. Very attentive staff and excellent beer selection. The shuttle to Brewers games has the best drivers. Go Brewers!

Yelp
Two weeks ago I stopped by to see the new bartender but while I was there grab some dinner. I debated between the bacon mac and cheese or the chicken pesto pasta so I ended up with the mac and cheese. When it arrived I couldn't wait to dig in. Took a couple bites was delicious and enjoyed the nice melty cheese. About half way through it it became a bit much because it was too rich in cheese. Now don't get me wrong I love cheese and bacon to match, but I could only enjoy so much of it and had to box the rest to take home. I did doctor up the leftovers and it wasn't too bad. I don't want to discourage anyone from ordering it because it is good, as I said it was a little on the rich side for me. This will not stop me from coming back and giving something else on the menu a try. I may give that pesto chicken dish a try this time but overall great atmosphere and the staff as well.

Yelp
Stopped in on a quite Sunday afternoon and were absolutely blown away! The bartenders were super friendly and service was very quick. The beer selection was diverse and the bar set up was unexpectedly beautiful. Now, the food is some of the best bar food I've had. My husband had the Patty Melt and stated that it contends for the best he has ever had. The grilled cheese came with unexpected but welcomed cheese curds. The fries were crisp and salted to perfection. I spent too many years living on that side of town and I'm kicking myself for never going before this week. Definitely a priority stop in the future!

Taylor M.

Yelp
Ordered a buffalo chicken salad on June 6th. Upon receiving it the chicken smelled rotten. The kind of smell raw chicken gets after sitting in a refrigerator for a week. Against my better judgement I tried one piece. Instantly my body tried rejecting it and so I spit it out. I considered ordering something else but had already lost my appetite.

Yelp
This has been a bookmark for a while now and since I was not working today I thought I would do my craft beer and a burger lunch. The place is nice with a nice bar, dining area in back, patio with roll up garage doors for nice days. Today was a nice day and the doors were open with a nice breeze blowing through. The place has 32 taps with a nice variety of domestic and craft beers and I would sample 2 of them which I liked. The menu is nice for a bar and my burger would be swapped out for the patty melt because they are less likely to be on a bar menu and I like them once in a while. My patty melt had 5 side options with onion rings being one and that's what I ordered. My patty melt looked perfect golden brown and the onion rings were the batter kind so no messy crumbs to deal with. The onion rings were good but not the best but better than frys or chips. The patty melt was very good and a perfect example of one. My patty was cooked perfect, seasoned nicely and rare. The patty was juicy to my amazement on nice caraway rye bread toasted perfectly with grilled onions and melty cheese. WOW this was a really good patty melt and it's doesn't show in the reviews except for one person. This was a great spot for some craft beer and a lunch so I would definitely go back and try more of the menu.

Yelp
Great food and huge selection of beers! Outstanding service, plenty of TV's and a must hang out before a Brewers game.

Sam M.

Yelp
GrI at service with amazing bartenders. Huge selection of beers around 32 on draft. Great place to watch sports

Yelp
dugout 54 is our new homepage. Food is great. fish fry choices good. optional sides. nice choice beers. atmosphere is super nice music at a conversational volume and all the games on screen .

Yelp
Above average bar food. I liked my salad, my husband enjoyed his burger. They have a shuttle for the brewers games.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow! I just had THE BEST salad! Usually, when you think of bar food, you think of burgers and chicken wings. Don't get me wrong. They've got great burgers and chicken wings. But they've also got soup, chili, salads, wraps, sandwiches, pizza and pasta. Back to my amazing salad... the Blackened Salmon Salad. Start with a sizable salmon fillet, blackened and grilled. Then place it on top of mixed greens, avocado, corn, cherry tomatoes and croutons. Finally, drizzle their homemade poblano dressing over the top. Absolutely delicious!

Yelp
Had another great night after work having dinner and some cocktails after work. Dave was our bartender/server for the evening and he was amazing!!! The food was great. We started with the cheese curds which were rich and delicious served with ranch and marinara. We also got an order of the Serrano wings which were fabulous! I will definitely get those again! I got the blackened salmon salad which came highly recommended and was delicious! My coworker got the loaded Mac and cheese with chicken on top. I've now had 2 great experiences here and look forward to more in the future!!!

Yelp
I've lived just up the road from Dugout 54 for over a year now and somehow hadn't made it into this spot until just recently. Came here on a Friday night for a beer. Their sign suggests that they're a craft beer spot, but I'll be honest, I didn't actually believe it. In walking by, they always put off such a sports bar vibe (and they're definitely that) that I kinda dismissed the craft beer allusions. I'm happy to say I was dead wrong! They have an amazing tap list. They have 30-ish taps filled with amazing craft beer goodness. I tried the Central Waters Brewers Reserve Rum Coconut Porter, which is boozy, rummy stout goodness. I also tried a barley wine (awesome) and an imperial amber (friggin' amazing). I have also tried some of their food items. Their queso fries are solid (the fries don't appear to be hand cut, but are tasty enough). Their bang bang shrimp is wonderful. The service is above-and-beyond great. Our bartender introduced himself by name and asked ours. He has proceeded to welcome us by name when we've been back in (amazing!!). Get to it!!

Darcie T.

Yelp
The blackened salad sandwich is so delicious!! They have an amazing beer list. Additionally the staff is absolutely wonderful!

Yelp
Visiting from out of town! Great atmosphere . Would definitely come here again and want to check it out during a brewers game

Yelp
Love this bar, service and food. We came before the P!NK concert. Which they had a shuttle that drooped us off and picked us up. Added bonus we didn't even know about that part. The cheese curds. They we're hands the best I've ever had. And the pretzel was so huge and soft. Our waitress was hilarious. I forgot her name. The beers we're nice & cold. Shuttle service such a great surprise. We ate from spfld il. & fort Collins co.

Yelp
Very disappointed with the food this time. Usually I give this restaurant five stars as it really is one of the best. But this time it was absolutely awful. I spent about $30 for my choices and it wasn't worth it at all. I honestly took one bite from each item and the rest went in the trash. I didn't want to waste the food as the money I paid for it was a lot BUT there was no way I was going to eat it. I love this restaurant but will take a break from it for awhile and hope that my recent experience was a one off and they will once again rise to their five star status

Yelp
I stopped in recently with my son for lunch to catch up with an old friend. Everyone working there was as friendly and helpful as can be! The bar and restaurant areas all looked great, and the food was very good! Both my son and I had the patty melt. They were fantastic! I definitely want to go back with my wife and try more of the food as it has a great menu that I can't wait to explore! The bartenders Dave and Jessie are top-notch. The best there are!
google avatar

Greg B.

Yelp
Dugout 54 has become my exclusive stop for dinner and a shuttle before Brewers games. The staff is friendly, the kitchen is quick, the food tastes great, and the shuttle drivers are willing to take loads even as small as one person over to the game. None of the other shuttle bars in the area can compare to the complete package you get with Dugout 54. I look forward to stopping again and again.
google avatar

Yelp
Does this look like bar food to you?! And it comes with service to boot. I made new friends and had such a great time!
google avatar

Tricia K.

Yelp
I cannot even express how delicious the food is here!! I'd love to recommend my favorite item on the menu, but I don't have one, because every item that I've had has been perfection! The portions are very generous and served piping hot. Great prices, great service and friendly staff! Shuttles to/from the Brewer game are also a huge plus!!
google avatar

Lord S.

Yelp
Best wings - not a boneless fan but I prefer them from here! Gotta try it. Great prices and beer selection. Awesome ownership
google avatar

Ahnoki D.

Yelp
I have had their food twice now and visited once in a weekend with my wife. Every visit has been great! The two food visits were for lunch. Seeing as my job doesn't allow me to enter establishments that serve alcohol Dugout 54 has more than graciously brought my food out to me. I park in my work truck outside and they come to me, I appreciate it so much! Their burgers are great! They have a great variety but I most love the "Everything In The Garden" burger. It is a black bean and veggie burger. It's absolutely the best veggie burger I have ever had! I can't wait to bring my daughter here who is a vegan to try it!
google avatar

Peter K.

Yelp
The bar was fine, good tap selection. Both posters on the wall and website advertised "Happy Hour All Night" on Tuesdays, but bartender ignored that and said we were wrong when we asked about it. Not a great way to win over customers.
google avatar

Jon F.

Yelp
Packers game. Horrible service. 45 minutes and had to go up to bar in other room to get water. Asked server for our drink order and she said she forgot - still no hustle to make it right. Speakers louder than Metallica concert for no reason.

Food P.

Yelp
It can get loud in there but Jessie the bartender is awesome! Mac and cheese is a must!

Yelp
Sat outside on the patio tonight. Trying to capture the last bit of summer. Had the fish fry tonight with waffle fries. It was pretty darn good! I was surprised at how good it was. In the past when I have eaten here it was nothing to write home about. Just ok food wise. I would go here because it's close to my stomping grounds. I wonder if they worked on the menu. They had some great options to choose from. They also have an amazing craft beer list which they have had for a long time. Beautiful doors that open the bar wide in the summer with some patio seating. I love the woodwork in this place. The crowd is a mixed bag of peeps. Bunch of mellow peeps trying to chill and watch a game along with a bunch of loud drunk peeps. Depends on the night. Your never sure what it's gonna be like there. If it's gonna be nice and mellow or if there is gonna be balls to the wall party going on. The service has always been a mixed bag of peeps as well. A little on the surly side. They probably have to deal with drunk people here all the time maybe that's why they are little rough around the edges. I would be too if I had to deal with drunk douche bags. As a matter of fact. I'm getting a little surly too in my old age. Lol. Can't wait to come back and try some other stuff on the menu. Really darn good fish fry. Oh wait...I said that already. Lol. I hope they keep it up with the yums yums because I would love to make this my neighborhood jaunt!
google avatar

Cody W.

Yelp
You can see me here every Sunday to watch my Tennessee Titans. For all I can find, they are the only bar that has the NFL package. The pretzel is my favorite on the menu. Also do not mind enjoying the game with a $6 pitcher. Thank you to Dave and the entire staff for always being top notch.

Dave B.

Yelp
If you want to go into a bar as strangers and come out feeling like a regular/family this is the place! We were Ohio State fans in Badger county and the folks were super nice to us even though we sported the OSU attire. The bartender and one of the owners were there and so attentive to our needs and generally interested in where we came from and what we were doing while in Milwaukee. And the beer selection was outstanding!
google avatar

Brennan M.

Yelp
Stopped here after we saw they had New Glarus Spotted Cow and were pleasantly surprised with how nice the bar was. We didn't eat but the atmosphere was great and they had a bunch of games going. Definitely a place we'd like to go again!
google avatar

Ryan B.

Yelp
The food here is incredible. You think bar menu, it's alright, but no! From the burgers to the Irish nachos to the buffalo chicken wraps, they rival the best in the city. Friendly staff and super close to Miller Park.
google avatar

Jenny S.

Yelp
Don't. Go. Here. Staff is rude and food is crap. We ordered 2 apps at the same time - we got 1, but I guess the kitchen closed before the other was made. What?!?! Stay away. There are much better places on Blue Mound. I had to give 1 star to write the review. It should be no stars.
google avatar

Christine L.

Yelp
Great St. Paddy's Day party. Green beer, beads, and bagpipes! This is the old Burkes Castle. Lots of room with two bars inside. I like how they have a garage door in the front bar area that opens the bar up to the outside. Very cool!
google avatar

Tamra V.

Yelp
Wow, glad to discover this place. FABULOUS food, Shrimp Scampi was awesome as was the Fire Ball Burger. The Staff was perfect, Martha was a perfect bartender/waitress. We WILL recommended and return.
google avatar

Tom V.

Yelp
One of our must do stops when we come up there. Great service. Friendly atmosphere. Great beers and excellent food. The whole vibe is worth the drive.
google avatar

Andy M.

Yelp
A nice wild corner bar with pool tables and television. A unique mix of seating and a nice looking bar makes tis a great stop for thirty Milwaukeeans in search of new pastures to mow their beer. nothing to complain here although they could use more of a staff and ore lighting and television sets. the food was great though

Rob B.

Yelp
Try the Irish taco's. Sounds goofy but they are awesome. Service is spot on every time I go.
google avatar

Aaron R.

Yelp
Put an extra charge on my credit card claiming someone walked out of the bar without paying their tab. There were 5 of us... 4 tabs because of course my wife and I will only have one tab.... my entire group has their closed out receipts. Their claim was that the cameras saw someone walk out without paying their tab.... which would probably be my wife since I closed OUR tab. Played phone tag with the manager and this is what I have been told by someone else hence, not getting my money back. Well, they will not be getting my business again and I will dispute the charge to get my money back. Wish this place was the old Irish bar it was in the 90's/2000's.... I hate updates.

Yelp
Went there on Saturday night, and I must say I was not impressed at all. There was a male bartender who waited on us, he was nice. There was two female employees behind the bar as well, they were serving tables, I'm guessing they were servers. The place was slow so the two females spent most of their time conversing with the bartender. The conversations between the two woman were inappropriate, they were speaking extremely loud about if they prefer to be waxed or shaved. The one server looked like she had just rolled out of bed, her hair was a mess, she kept trying to fix it, she didn't have a bra on, she kept lifting her shirt up to show her stomach, while trying to fix her hair. If an employee of mine showed up looking disheveled, hair not combed, no bra, I would send her home. A customer asked for a drink and the bartender told him, one minute, and then proceeded to play on his cell phone for a good 3-5 minutes and then helped the customer . A gentleman went up to the jukebox and played a couple songs, as the first one was playing the two female servers and the bartender were complaining very loudly how they hated his music selection, the bartender proceeded to skip not one, but two of his songs. A lot of places will advertise a 'we have the right to eject any songs' however usually the bar only ejects it for either crude language or is the overall people in the bar are offended by the song, not just because the servers and bartenders do not like the song. I feel that was completely rude and uncalled for. Over all I would rate this bar a zero, however that dosent exist so I have to give it a one. I will NOT be returning.

D K.

Yelp
There was hardly anyone in the bar yet I got really poor service. I was sitting on the patio and In order to get a drink, I had to walk to the bar to get it because the female bartender was to busy chatting up the male patrons. Every single drink I had, I got because I had to walk to the bar to get. All the other patrons that were sitting out on the patio received their food and drinks by the bartender bringing it to them.. Due to the fact that I used to be a bartender, I usually leave a 30% tip. In this case only left 10%. Perhaps if I were a man, I would have received better service. I will not be returning.
google avatar

Leslie M.

Yelp
Stopped here with my mom and dad today. Don't go here after a Brewer game. They water down the drinks. Owner got snippy when I asked them about it. Seriously, why screw people over? Not cool. I know the difference between cranberry juice and vodka. I am an adult. I think they hope people are so messed up after the game they won't notice.
google avatar

William R.

Yelp
Went here for the first time and had an ok meal. The meatball sub was awesome, Burgers were a little over cooked, really good sweet potato fries. Good beer selection, but I would like to see some more local beers on tap like Lakefront. Show some local love! The owner came over and asked for feedback, and has a genuine interest in our opinions. This place will only get better with the remodels and future plans for a bigger beer selection. Give it a try!

Nicole H.

Yelp
I just had my husband's 40th birthday party in the party rental area and it was amazing. Carol helped me plan everything and everything was exactly how I wanted it. She accommodated ALL of my requests, even the goofy ones! I highly recommend this as a party venue!

Jack R.

Yelp
Bathrooms were gross. Toilets full of urine, urine on the floor and empty soap dispensers.
google avatar

Jamie R.

Yelp
Great bar and plenty of craft beers on tap. They won't kick you out for having a discussion with a friend like J&B'S would. I've been going to both bars occasionally and the Dugout/Burkes is hands down way better if your looking for a good time and great staff!! I MEAN IT!!!
